  1. Yes they did. And yes, I sold every other bone to lower the cost. Wyvern bones were in high demand (herblore bonus XP) and really helped offset the cost. I probably wouldn't try to go to 99 with this method, but I'd probably do it until 93, bonus XP or not. Once you get to 93, you can start getting free XP from assisting effigies.
  2. Here's a notion: How about a quota system? You get a hard limit of {x} kills a week of NPCs in question and then you have to get off the ride and go do something else. Should be a lot simpler to implement than instancing.
  3. Found one of these today in my Runescape directory. I was ranging black dragons at the time, and recall a severe disconnection event ("Connection Lost"), though my Internet connection itself did not fail and game play resumed nearly a minute later. I can't say whether the disconnection caused the dump or whether it was vice-versa. This is the latest version of Java, installed last night. It's also an old version of the client (Product Version 1.0.0.2) The problematic frame points to mshtml.dll; the version I have is 8.00.6001.18975 (longhorn_ie8_gdr.100907-1700) Sent the header to Jagex in a bug report. Curious to know whether anyone else is getting dump files at present. Contents of the dump file, for the curious: ========== # # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x3d0e9851, pid=1572, 4. Getting into Shilo by crossing the cart is convoluted. Getting out can be accomplished by a right-click. Captain Obvious suggests Karamja Gloves 3 or better to avoid the hassle.

An enable/disable 'Follow' works too... <_< That's one of the dumbest things I've heard. Following DOESN'T HURT ANYTHING. It's not like real life if someone follows you for a long time, if that happens you have something to worry about, but if someone follows you on a game, what's it gunna do? Stress you out? I support the OP. It's a royal P.I.T.A. to have someone latch on to you when you are already battling lag. When it's multiple people (penguins, for example) it becomes downright problematic. If you can block other people's annoying chat, you should also be able to block their annoying latching on. Of course, Gagflex has had years to do something about this and has done nothing. So I wouldn't expect them to suddenly put this on their list of priorities to fix. But they damn well should.

I used to look forward to ToG. But with effigy candy falling out every slaver monster's ass nowdays, this weekly event has lost much of its shine. Coupling that along with the XP going to Dung (for no tokens) has pretty much destroyed this diversion for me. If I remember to do it, I'll go give it a run, but it's not something on my must-do list anymore.

  8. Nah, i'd say it's more like saying "get demoted" Because you aren't changing what you do, you're just settling for a lower position (if you actually did hop) Finding another job would be to go to another boss/monster [/smartassing] Actually, it's more like going to a public park and chasing people away from the picnic table you prefer because you have the arrogance & the muscle. It's sociopathic and indefensible in either case, but people will do whatever they can get away with. People don't make a living sitting at picnic benches, FYI. Your analogy is terrible. As opposed to claiming Runescape is like a job or a career? But I will consider your criticism and offer a more apt example: It's like going to an amusement park - where everyone pays admission - and then elbowing your way to the front of the queue for popular rides and riding them again and again and again... Ill-mannered, inconsiderate, sociopathic - I stand by every adjective.

  10. Firefox seems to get more and more crash-prone every week. Maybe it's the plug-ins or the add-ons I use...
  11. Well, suqahs drop very low-level herbs. There don't seem to be many high-level slayer NPCs that are prodigious herb droppers. And I'd say the same about bones. The only things I'd want a bonecrusher for are baby dragons & lower. And there are plenty of slayer NPCs that drop ashes or no bones. For high-level slayer, I question the use of either item. Now, if you are going to go no-life for challenge scrolls or camp at baby dragons for effigies, I'd say that would be a nice niche use of the bonecrusher. And you could always go slumming at banshees, basilisks or flesh crawlers for herbicide. But using either with high-level slayer? I have my doubts.
  12. While the drops are paltry, you do have the chance for an effigy with suqahs.
  13. I will have to object to the consequentialist viewpoints presented here. The end simply does not justify the means.
  14. So you are justifying anti-social behavior by claiming an overall social benefit...? /cues up the Alanis Morissette music
  15. And if they are muted, you aren't gonna have much luck with that. I could imagine that people who are muted do things like this just to give Jagex the proverbial finger. :???: I do actually enjoy some of the clever spoonerisms. But for every clever name there are 100 crude, vulgar, racist wannabees.
  16. At 30,000 XP a day from assisting, that's 238 days to go from 91 to 99. So once you slog it out until 91, you should have your 99 in less than a year - with no further need for buying or harvesting any resources. If you stop assisting at 97 and start using dragonkin lamps, you only need 4,789,798 XP, which comes to 160 days of assisting. You only have to get 97 in 8 skills to be effigy-independent. Let's look at the pairings and the obvious choices for training: Crafting or Agility - Agility, no resource drain Construction or Thieving - Thieving, little or no resource drain Cooking or Firemaking - Cooking, drain on raw fish Farming or Fishing - Fishing, bookends with Cooking or contributes to overall fish resources Fletching or Woodcutting - Woodcutting w/Ivy, no resource drain or contribution Herblore or Hunter - Hunter, no resource drain Smithing or Mining - Smithing, with a drain on bars Runecrafting or Summoning - Summoning (because so many people love Slaver and despise RC), drain on various secondaries You really can get by nowadays with a lot fewer resources than we old timers had to use. That's money that can now go to gear, or rares or whatever instead of to resource gatherers & bots.
  17. I'd contest this. I would expect the level 91+ players to make up a much smaller portion of the overall demand for resources. Also factor in people getting the level in order to be able to open their own effigies. Which brings you to the lower 90s - the halfway point. Half as many oak planks, or herbs, or bars, or ores, etc. That's a lot of money if you are the type who buys all your resources. Now if you are the type who doesn't intend to push your skills to 99, I agree it's no big deal. But we are talking about CapeScape here. People love their capes.
  18. All my music is on its own partition - J:\mp3 I have 26 folders named ‘a’ through ‘z’, and one named bullpen. In folder ‘a’ you would find all the artists beginning with a - Aerosmith, Bryan Adams (last name), Atlanta Rhythm Section, etc. I rename all my mp3s as artist.' - '.song title, i.e. Aerosmith - I Don't Want To Miss A Thing.mp3. Any new downloads I get go into bullpen, from which I rename to my format and then move them manually and add to iTunes.
  19. I'd like to expound on something not explored in the Times article on the economy - the effect of effigies. Personally, I have 2 of the costlier skills "trained" to the mid 90s - Construction & Summoning. We all know 92 is the halfway point; effigies start kicking in at 91. This introduces the possibility of lopping off roughly half of your skill training budget. Before effigies, I had been mulling over how to fund 99 Construction, since I am not that big on the MH fork of the game. Now, I don't have to give it a second thought. Once I got my level to 93, I found a steady supply of Construction XP from W117, assisting with effigies. And it's all at no cost to me whatsoever. My own dragonkin lamps (from boring, humdrum Slayer assignments) are going towards Summoning - at 41K a pop, they are really helping out. A large portion of demand for skilling resources is drying up thanks to effigies. Who needs bots when you eliminate the need for resources in the first place?
  20. The last 10 songs in the Hump Day iTunes shuffle: The Archies - Waldo P. 21. Here's a Bestiary link that searches for Clue scroll (elite) I have yet to see an elite, so I can't give you any insight into probabilities.

It's possible to make most any DVD player region free with a few hidden menu commands. I will personally vouch for this working for my parent's DVD player - I was able to play my region 2 DVD of Battlestar Galactica this way. The directory of codes is on videohelp.com. Search for your player. I can't comment at all on the eBay ad you mention. I don't know enough about the UK electronics market to comment. But I'd be skeptical of anyone who misspelled "fourth" in his listing title. I am told that this will void your warranty in most cases, but if you have a DVD player, it's probably fallen out of warranty anyways. <_<
  23. The only reason I go to the official site is for weekly penguin locations. As long as this site doesn't get in the way of me doing that, I have no problem with it. But I can't say it will compel me to spend more time on the site.
  24. At the current slice rate, it is really only useful as an alternative way to train Hunter.
