Mod Mark H reveal RuneFest item 2010
Jagex, whether they realize it or not, has now officially sanctioned RWT. They know there will be people who buy tickets when they have no hope of attending the event, just so they won't miss out on the item and feel like their accounts are incomplete. Did Iddison stage a coup to overthrow MMG? Jagex has almost completely reverted back to Iddison's ways, at least that's what it seems like.

A Second Bonus Week
No, please don't do another weekend. The last weekend killed GWD. Thousands of people got 88+ summoning, and probably thousands also got 89+ herblore. The competition got MUCH fiercer after the exp weekend, and the prices of all GWD items plummeted as a result. The only way I find another exp weekend to be acceptable is if one of two scenarios takes place: 1) They ONLY give the bonus for the unbuyable or mostly-unbuyable skills; i.e. fishing, mining, hunting, wcing, slayer, rc, farming 2) They put a cap on how much exp you can get in one skill. This is the better alternative, imo. Also, you shouldn't be allowed to use it on summoning, period. This is because with summoning, you're not only saving the cost of supplies but also the time it would have taken to gather the additional charms.

Post and discuss all Jagex Twitter updates here!
Jerk stole my joke! I was gonna make a fake. Any way, short of Hollywood-FBI-grade programs, I doubt it will be worth trying. It just seems too blury. [hide=Blur][/hide] OMFG I laughed so hard at that

12-Apr-2010 - Dungeoneering Skill!
And so, last night I was fighting Shadowforger in a five man 5:5 team. He used his spores attack and took me from 950+ hp to 0 before I had time to eat a single piece of food. For that one completely bogus death, I discovered when we beat the boss that I lost 15% exp. That's absurd. The higher the team difficulty, the lower your death penalty should be.

But you still see most people using one weapon type-- spears. The triangle is indeed much more balanced (too bad ranged still sucks because the highest type of arrow gives +46 ranged strength), but still one type of weapon excels over all others.

Use wave/surge spells on Riftsplitter. Seriously. Using melee over magic against him is a waste of time. Also bring a ranging familiar if you can obtain one.

Ehhhhh, that's streching it a little. You shouldn't be nasty to people you disagree with, regardless of whether you're attacking someone specifically or a group in general. I suppose it's a tad better than a personal attack, but it's still horrible debating and tends to derail threads anyway. Well, I don't want to be nasty, so I'm not. That's what I meant. I can be very visceral, but I don't like to be if I can choose not to be. What I gave him was flaming either, at least not to my standards. I merely gave him a light saute. Anyway, he's on ignore and I'm done with him. I don't care where a debate goes, someone attacks me personaly and I'll give them the middle finger and trek onward. Why bother to defend yourself on the internet? Who really cares, at the end of the day? This doesn't just go out to you (like Gabe, I like your style of writing ;)), but to everyone who is bickering with each other in this abortion of a topic. STFU about "whether or not this is a skill" and start talking about how to best train the skill, what kind of strategies you use for bosses, etc; however, if you absolutely must bash the skill, don't just throw out useless comments like "it is not a skill, it is a minigame that sucks and should be removed!" Offer suggestions of what you think they could do to make it BETTER.

Soooooo... getting away from the bickering... Has anyone here reached a high enough level to buy and test out any of the rewards?

Dungeoneering Weapon Average Damage
From using several different weapons inside there, here's what I've noticed is best, in order: Spears > 2hs > Longswords/Battle Axes > Mauls > Rapiers > Daggers Rapiers and daggers do not have high enough attack bonuses to be of that much use.

I consider this to be neither a minigame nor a skill. It's closest to what console gamers call "DLC" (or downloadable content). DLCs are expansion packs that usually involve a new area separate from the main game that puts your levels/items gained in the main game to the test and allows you to obtain spiffy new items to use in the main game.

Well they better change this attitude when it comes to catastrophies like this skill. A lot of us are worried about if this skill is eventually going to have a use for training it, not just 1 reward for 80 levels of hard work. Take a look at the Blizzard corporation and how much more successful their game is. Even though WoW costs essentially 3x more to play, they have around 3x as many people who pay to play it. It's because when it comes to major game updates they let you know WAY in advance when something will happen to the gameplay mechanics so that you have time to prepare and/or share your opinion on it. Then, once the content is finished, they put it into beta testing with select players on test realms which means that upon official release the content will virutally be bugless, excluding perhaps one or two bugs that aren't game breaking like the ones Jagex releases. If they want to be considered a serious major corporation, they better start acting like one. Hiding major game decisions from your players without allowing them initial feedback just solely for the fact of "we want it to be a surprise," is not a good enough justification. I want to know if my game is going in a direction I'm at least content with before I keep subscribing. I don't like being left in the dark about something I pay for simply because they think it'll be fun like a surprise birthday party. Blizzard is also much more willing to expend capital as an investment to ensure quality products. Jagex does not want to do that. They do not want to spend extra money hiring more people to bug-test or develop their content. They do not want to hire more people to work in CS so that people don't have to deal with bots when they try to appeal offenses (that were also most likely handed out by bots). One issue with beta testing in RS is that it gives everybody involved an unfair advantage. Unless they make you sign a NDA (good luck enforcing it) and make it where as long as you're in the beta-process, you can't ever play on normal worlds (good luck getting anyone to volunteer), people will abuse the knowledge they gain during the beta process. Nevertheless, because this skill is completely isolated and everything is non-tradeable, they COULD have used a beta test with it and it would have really helped.

= New Chaotic Items =
I think part of the ([wagon]-backwards) reasoning behind the token system was to reward people for training past a certain level instead of just having everyone get level 80 and stop.
-
= New Chaotic Items =
How would that be better, unless they further reduced the token costs. Then you'd still need to get 80 Dung to buy the ability to wield a Chaotic Longsword, but you'd also need to spend more tokens or GP to actually obtain the item. If they reduced the "ability to wield" to like 100k tokens for a Chaotic Weapon and then sold the weapon for like 10m, I'd be okay with that... As long as you also received a "proof of purchase" item that you could use on the smuggler if you die and lose the Chaotic Longsword in order to allow you to rebuy it for half price. They also need to allow you resell items for like 75% of what you paid.

This guy is a Forum Mod, I would expect something better. L2P? And judging by his lacking grasp of grammar, he's also either still in middle school or English is his second language.

As I expected, most of the questions they answered were pointless drivel that could either be answered by RTFM, playing the skill past level 20, or by having even a little common sense. The two things I learned from the FAQ were that t11 items can indeed only be earned as boss drops, and most of the t11 items will be released at higher levels in Batch 2, when they release more floors and bosses. This also means that they'll be giving the ability to earn a much higher prestige bonus, allowing for decent exp/h at high levels. Oh, I also learned that Jagex does intend you to play this minskill in groups instead of solo. I really do not like that. Yes, it is more fun in groups, but I strongly feel that soloers ought to be compensated for both because the bosses later on are so difficult solo and because it's so much less entertaining.

New (f2p) 'sub-class' of ranging pures: The "never-miss' ranger?
Thats mainly because you lose the robes if you die. IF the weapons have a high alch value, I don't see why not. Finally long bows will have more uses! Which would give people a reason not to play in +1 worlds, just like P2P.

New (f2p) 'sub-class' of ranging pures: The "never-miss' ranger?
Realistically, unless they make these items require a pittance in tokens, they will be too time-expensive for many people to use in PKing. Very few people use charged FoG robes to mage in, for the same reason.

It is content geared for F2P more it can't be that great. Now if they only surprise us with one more real new member skill this year it would be nice. :wall: It is a mini-game and it's pure marketing to call it a skill. It isn't a coincidence that mini-games were renamed activities. Hopefully the next skill in the year 1013 won't be a minigame so they can be forgiven. Personally I think they are just bored with creating Runescape. They should create a new game, oh wait they are. I sort of agree with Queltar. They are insulting RS players by tacking on a flimsy veneer of a skill to a minigame. But really who cares? If you like the new content use it, if not avoid it. There are a bunch of skills I never level. You won't like every piece of content. And jagex will never admit that this is a minigame even though it is. Well, they pretty much destroyed the "F2P" aspect of the skill by tacking on the ridiculous "You're above X arbitrary level, therefore we will dock most of your exp as a penalty" addendum. Also, I don't see how this skill is an advertisement for P2P... None of the stuff you get in the dungeon can be used outside the dungeon, so it's really not advertising members' content. Also, you can only go up to t5 equipment in the dungeon in F2P, so again... It doesn't advertise members' content.
