  1. Yup. The family pack is only $20 and will allow you to install the operating system up to five computers, provided they are all running 10.5 Leopard.
  2. Just hit apply and you're all set as far as partitioning goes; nothing should be erased.
  3. Hm. As long as you are partitioning your external hard drive, the Maxtor I believe is what brand you named, you'll be fine. But I wouldn't think that it should be deleting your data. You're going through Disk Utility and clicked on the + button under the partition tab? If so, would you mind taking a screenshot (Command, Shift, and 4) of this tab so I can see how much Time Machine has allocated. I just partitioned mine and nothing happened. I'm thinking that if the entire hard drive is full then Time Machine wants to dump everything. You can always have it delete everything, but that leaves you without a previous backup for your iMac. If you do wipe the hard drive there is nothing to worry about, as you can just plug it back into your MacBook, select it as the Time Machine backup device and have it copy everything to the hard drive. I think that you just have to have the second partition below the blue bar, as that seems to be the space Time Machine has begun using.
  4. Yup. Buy it on the 28th and you get Snow Leopard free. If you buy it now it will be $9. I actually just ordered Snow Leopard. I tried out the Gold Master build for my applications to ease the worries of adopting it too soon. Hope all goes well. :) Thank you! Thats exactly what I needed : I was planning on buying it on the 28th. Whats this Gold Master build? It's the equivalent of Windows RC. It's the final developers build that developers use to test out that their applications and utilities. It is not released to the public and to obtain a beta of Snow Leopard (10A432) you need to obtain a developers license. In my case I needed to make sure that my Carbon applications would still work nicely. Which, I should get around to working with Cocoa since the new SDk was released. In short, you don't need to worry about it; it's a beta of the public release to Snow Leopard. :P
  5. Partition the external hard drive using Disk Utility. Then hook up the hard drive to your laptop. Open Time Machine under System Preferences and select "Change Disk," or something similar on the first button. It'll select the HDD as a backup storage system and automatically backup all of your files. When you get your new laptop, during setup, it will ask you if you would like to use a previous Time Machine backup as your new account. All of your files will then be on your new laptop. Yup. Buy it on the 28th and you get Snow Leopard free. If you buy it now it will be $9. I actually just ordered Snow Leopard. I tried out the Gold Master build for my applications to ease the worries of adopting it too soon. Hope all goes well. :)
  6. You would have to partition it to keep data separate. You could push $1,000 for it if it's the 2.0Ghz. Though, $900 isn't bad either. Are you using Time Machine to back up?
  7. If an ad hoc connection doesn't work, then I think you're out of luck. Routers wouldn't be as popular if this were a feasible approach. In addition, a router would rely a signal stronger than that of a computer. And, as far as I know, wireless cards (including your USB dongle) only gather the information and the interpretation is done by the computer. Sharing a wired connection would be easier, despite not yielding the same results.
  8. No, she's correct. It's mostly low-range gpu's tho: http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0 ... 0&from=rss http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/10/15 ... dia-flaw/1 http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/07/07 ... re-rates/1 Happend last summer. I don't mean to hate on either company. Driver issues are one thing, where the software can be corrected, but these were flat out faulty. You shouldn't have a problem if you're buying a card from them now, it just looks like a bad past to me - a consumer.
  9. Most skills don't even go to 99; don't set the bar too high.
  10. All is well. :)
  11. Your question will be better answered in Help and Advice.
  12. Yup. Whip, Bandos, and Barrows are everywhere. Though I find WoW's graphics too cartoonish and coated in plastic.
  13. No, it's not "fair." You know nothing of their life other than the fact that they play Runescape and are progressing quickly within the game.
  14. It's nice of you to help but why should you have to pick up the slack for those lazy players, wasting your own time when they ask you to give them clay or to make them a tool? Don't you get points for doing so? Do you get points for helping people out and giving them stuff? I don't know. Not directly, but yes. It increases the speed at which they gather clay, which increases the likelihood of your team winning.
  15. Thought the level of detail was neat on the mushroom.
  16. I earn mine but help out when I can. After all, it is a team game.
  17. Same thing happened to me. :wall: In fact, I think that I am going to go buy another beret to fill a nostalgic hole. :P
  18. Makoto_the_Phoenix, while your statement is true, it's actually the lesser aspect of the problem. Sure, no software is bug-free, as is to be expected. Rather, it is the response to these bugs that poses a threat to the community. I myself have not played WoW, but I have heard testimonies that customer service goes out of their way to return lost assets due to software errors. This can also be seen in material companies, which routinely dish out store credit as compensation for lost or damaged valuables/time spent rectifying a defect in their product. When similar things occur in Runescape, players are given the cold shoulder with Jagex standing by its stance that it does not issue items or gold even when the problem results from their end. If you can't stop the bullet, try and mend the wound. No one, which is why Jagex should have issued out a return of assets lost, especially if they can determine the players who were targeted by the anomaly. As one of the Jagex Moderators said, "I know more about your account than you do." It's a shame they, or at least he, refuted the player's claim with such a belligerent attitude.
  19. Haven't seen you on here in awhile. :) Didn't know you were still playing. Very nice level, in any case.
  20. I noticed that it does now... When my mom got on facebook this morning I got disconnected... If you're using a 2.4 ghz wireless phone then you probably are getting interference since that is the same frequency that the typical wireless router uses. Open up your router using the same method posted earlier and look for channel settings. You'll want to put it at the opposite of what it is set at right now, if it is set to 1, change it to 11 and vice versa. Edit: Also if this doesn't work but you can confirm it is the problem (call your house with wireless phone is plugged in, see if it disconnects, call your house with wireless phones unplugged and a corded phone plugged in instead) I believe there is something called a filter you can look into, or you can buy a 5.8 ghz phone. Yup, yup. I had the same problem, but my cellular phone isn't 5Ghz compatible so I had to buy a dual-band router.
  21. Oh sorry, erm it is made by eSys i think, no idea of the model? Ok so guys i should buy a nvidia or ati card and 2gb ram, and will this make HD playable? Also, not sure which other games i'l play, maybe Quakelive? Probably not anything else. To be frank, everything but the OS needs replacement for long-term efficiency. If you just want to play HD, you'll need to up your RAM to at least 2GB with a GPU at ~256mb. ATI and Nvidia both excel in graphic card production and distribution; it's personal preference. My choice would be with ATI, as I've heard numerous reports on faulty Nvidia chips. While the faults are limited to those card only, it looks bad on the company. I'm sure more experienced users will be able to give you good feel for a decent GPU.
  22. I think you got your answer. If you would like to continue your discussion in Help and Advice, feel free to PM me. Happy posting. :)
  23. No one is flaming anyone; it caused an annoyance in the thread and it was fixed. I then tried to help out the other guy because everyone was commenting on his statement. I don't see why a discussion evolved.
