  1. beat me to it <_< I was looking forward to global warming. Then we hit a new record this year for coldest winter, 2nd coldest place in the world now  next to a small town in russia or siberia can't remmber its name  , -50 something degrees C. I threw away my sun tan lotion then and went shopping for parkas and sled dogs. And this mean we are going to have another global warming debate? Don't actually remember seeing anything about the climate gate scandal on tip it yet.
  2. 4 clues from steel task in which i got sara plate legs, zammy plate legs, zammy d hide body and last was junk. Other then that a vissy and granite legs from wyvern task.
  3. As the purpose of language is to facilitate communication, that is, the conveyance of meaning, then it is the speaker's responsibility to ensure that the words they use communicate the ideas that they wish to communicate. There is no reason not to take language seriously when there is a chance that people will misinterpret your ideas. Among friends who are accustomed to speaking to each other, miscommunication isn't a huge issue, but ideas must be presented with clarity when talking to other people. Incidentally, there is an idea which comes up in linguistic philosophy that suggests that it is impossible for listeners to understand what a speaker wishes to communicate via language, as there will always be a discrepancy between how the listener decodes and interprets words, and what the speaker thinks their words actually mean. Incidentally, fix your spelling, OP. Sorry i'm using a new abi word and the spell checker on it stinks. And to clarify my clan mate brought up marriage to try and say that words do have meaning and that I should be more, i think he was trying to say careful about what a words meaning actually was but didn't use such kind language about it.
  4. No i was just using justice as an example. His original rant was about marriage but theres already to many topics about that and religion floating around so i thought i'd go with something els.
  5. So yesterday i comented in my cc about how the word heresy comes from the the greek word haerisis and that one possible translation of this word is choice and that, by definition then, herasy means that you are being accused of choosing your own fate or making a choice rather then blindly following dogma. I'm not sure why but after this another of my clan mates had a blow out and when so far as to say that i was "poisoning the minds of impretionable young people" might not be the exact words but its close enough. He then started to bring up other hot topics such as marriage to say that words have meaning and that they are actually important to some people. I'm not complaining or anything because I have this same discusion with a co-worker every other week and am used to it now, but it did get me thinking. Why is it that people will defend the definition of certain words such as justice, mariage, religion, ect as if it is a fight for life and death. Justice for instance, in the middle ages it consisted of any peasant being accused of a crime to be tortured because it was believed that they were not inteligant enough to tell the truth. Another instance is the inocent unless proven guilty concept that we use today. It was actually rare in most medival societies for this to be true and you either had to prove that you were innocent or be summilarily sentanced by the local ruler, dictator, ect. Marriage and religion are the other two big ones but theres enough topics about those two that i'll leave them alone. So why is it that people try to defend a words "meaning" even though that meaning has been constantly shifting throughout history?
  6. Def does own str if they are both the same level. It will be one slow fight but defence will eventually win. Now on to the reason why mains and pures just never get along. The main difference between a main and a pure is that a pure is built to kill while a main is built to actually win. in my experiance it is pures who are the first to run from a fight or the first to rush another player just after they finish a battle because all they care about is winning and getting a drop. there are the few who do pk for fun but the majority do it just for easy money. And because of this they make the game less fun for pkers who do it for the enjoyment and mains who do it for fun or just to kill time. Thats one of the main reasons why most mains hate pkers because they do it for easy cash and not to actually enjoy the game. The second reason why mains hate pkers is their general attitude to changes to the combat system. Does anyone els remember when the god swords first came out? The rants forum was full of complaints from pkers who did not have 70 attack complaining that this would unbalance the combat system, aka actually have to train a stat or get owned. And then there was the dark bow and almost every other high level update. For those of you who don't remember theres the more recent extreme and overload pots. the truth is that most pures only do the minimal amount of work to make a pking account and when an update occurs they are usually the first to complain if it actually involves them raising stats other then ones they have already gotten. Of course mains do complain about a weapon being underpowered or a quest being to short or easy but they are not as vocal about it as the pkers. well theres my two cents if anyone disagrees with what i've said the next time theres update that effects combat visit the rants rsof .
  7. now this is a good one 1A-2 B The FSD may authorize the following modifications for the screening of Persons With Disabilities: 1) ETD searches are not required for: a. Wheelchair and scooter cushions b. Footwear of disabled individuals that cannot be removed c. Prosthetic devices, casts, or support braces d. Orthopedic shoes so all u need to do is get a doctor to write u a perscription for shoes... wonder how many loop holes actually are in the us security system
  8. So all a terrorist actually has to do is become a piolet and then all these security messures are moot. Oh darn! He's exposed the loophole in our security measures! Rats, whatever shall we do? Raise the taxes whilst the government sits on their arses in Jamaica smoking the reefer deciding what to do then shaking a magic eight ball and go by that. i thought reading tea leaves was in style this year? you know the green revolution!
  9. So all a terrorist actually has to do is become a pilot and then all these security messures are moot.
  10. This thread is interesting, I think this will go into my bookmarks. They way that i've view the gods is like this. Bandos- the school yard bully who picks on the other kids when the teacher turns his back. aka the evil god of war for its own sake- chaos essentialy Saradomin- is the stuck up rich kid who believes that everything he says is right and that others who disagree with him are his mortal enimies- pure good essentially which means that whoever is not good has to die Armadyle- is one kid in the shool yard who stands up to the bully and the rich kid who is not affraid to voice his opinion- essentially he is nuetral but plays an active role in maintaining the balance. Fighting like bandos but with a purpose rather than for chaos. Then comes the minor gods, seren, the monkey god, and the desert gods, who i will compare to the spectators as i think they were the youngest gods to arive. Correct me if i'm wrong. And played minimal parts in actual governing of the world. Bandos is the embodiment of chaos or evil while saradomin is the embodiment of good. If armadyl is a nuetral god as all things sujest then if zaros was either a good or and evil god guthix would have woken much sooner because the balance would have been upset. Now come my views on the last two gods. I think that they are both gods of balance. Guthix represents the natural balance. I can't explain it that well but I believe him to impartial as long as no outside forces interfere in the world. No creatures from foreign planes interefereing with the world or granting creatures abnormal powers, that sort of thing. Essentially letting things take the natural course. Which brings us to zaros. I view him more as a god of balance between the planes themselves. This ones harder to explain because we do not know when exactly the major gods arrived to the plane of gilenor. If bandos and the other gods arrived before zaros then this would be plausible since they each arrived with an individual race. Bandos brought the goblins, seren the elves, armadyl the rocs and avansies (but there is no actual proof of this), saradomin pausibally the icyene (which jagex has kindly provided no proof either), and the desert gods braught the mahajarat (sp?). Zaros is attracted to gilenor from his own plane of existence because of the other gods interfering with the fabric of the space time continum and puts a stop to them before they cause enough damage to awaken guthix himself. The mahrajatt (sp?) also could fit into this theory. Since they are a selfish race if they see that a god has the power to stop more of there kind from coming to this world he might also have the power to banish them back to there own desolate plane. When that happens they abandon the desert gods and join zaros hoping to remain on gilenor. The last thing that convinces me of this is the god wars themselves. When zaros was overthrown we know that the first thing that zammy did was to summon legions of demons and worse things from the other planes. Saradomin also interfered with the natural balance but we don't know to what extent. Either summoning creatures from other planes to fight zammys demons or enhancing the creatures already on gilenor. And then guthix awoke and banished the majority of the stronger demons back to the other planes and prevented the gods from directly interfering in the world. and messing with the natural balance further. Another theory i have is that the avansies and icyene were originally on gilenor before the arival of the other gods and just flocked (srry for the pun) to armadyl and saradomin. And when the avansies and icyene were destroyed by the war guthix allowed the minor creatures of the other planes to stay to fill a void that was created when they were wiped out.
  11. there was another topic a month or two ago about a twitter post where jagex said that the new skill would begin with the letter b.
  12. now that IS scarry
  13. So what is the point of the changes then? If it makes it harder for the terrorists to blow up a plane, then that's saving lives. if someone wants to cause damage or take lives theres alot of easier ways then taking over or destroying a plane. for instance a small group of terrorists armed with automatic weapons boarding a pleasure cruise or ferry could cause alot of death but not have the threat of being shot out of the air by the us army. If someone really wants to cause harm they will. i know of one way that will stop terrorist from attacking other countries. Stop messing around with other peoples countries.
  14. This is why you should ride on boats. Safer, more reasonable, and you get to act like a pirate! Arrr... On-topic: this guy was on the Terrorist watch list and he still made it in? Am I getting this correctly? not sure several articles i've read say he was on the list but others say that the CIA knew he had ties to terrorism for almost 2 years but he was never put on the list. still to early to actually get any reliable iinfo.
  15. This is why i refuse to travel to the united states until someone who is actually sane starts running security. A better topic would have been if this actually was a terrorist attack. The official story is that this guy, a wealthy son of a banker, with good grades in university, sewed a packed of 80 grams of PETN into his underwear to blow up a plane with.... Several major flaws in this story. First off the guy has a promising future and unless his father cuts him off would have been wealthy as well. I don't know about you but i would rather live to be rich. second 80 grams of PETN won't do much damage. not only that but the airport this guy came from uses a full body scanner i can't remember what its called but its the one that caused alot of controversy when it first came out because it can essentially create a nude picture of you. so the operator should have been able to see what looked like a packet of drugs stiched to his underwear. to add to that all bomb dogs and chemical scanners check for PETN so there is no way that he should have been able to get it onto a plane in the first place. Thirdly the guy supposedly got onto a plane without a passport... ya i don't think i need to explain that flaw to anyone. And lastly http://www.mlive.com/news/detroit/index.ssf/2009/12/northwest_flight_253_passenger.html there is no mention of the object that this passenger pulled off him in the official report. and since this hands and legs were burned and not blown off its seams to me more like a battery of a cell phone or pda over heated and caught fire rather then a bomb going off. there are several other links i'll dig up and post later when i get the time.
  16. Why would the news place matter? News is news it has to be true or else it would be illegal. Can't stay long so i havn't had time to look through the whole thread. If no one mentioned it, the U.S. has NO laws that force news agencies to actually tell the truth. There was a big scandal a while ago about how 2 fox reporters were fired because they refused to lie about how human growth hormone that was used to increase milk production in cows can be transfered to humans through milk. A lawsuit was filed and it came out that there is no law that prevents the "news" from telling lies. This was a while ago though so not sure if they changed it. There were a few vids on youtube at the time but i can't find any of them right now, dumb dial up.
  17. Climate change is happening. doesn't mean that humans are the cause of it. As my friend the fsm says, its not the increase of cars that have led to global warming, its the decrease of pirates! As to why i know its happening. In june in alberta we had snow... Here in winnipeg its almost december and i think we had 1 snow fall that was actually worthy of being called that. That doesn't seem so bad but here in winnipeg we have a saying, we only have 2 seasons winter and construction, so far just a lot of construction.

Finally finished reading "the gathering storm" book twelve of the wheel of time series. Brandon Sanderson's style of writing is different then Robert Jordan's but it was still a great read and can't wait for the last two books in the series and I hope he does the prequel sereis that Robert was working on before his death as well.

This afternoon my family was cleaning out our basement and invited some of the neighbors over to take any junk that they wanted and that we had no use for. While we were sitting down for coffee my neighbor and I got into a discussion how children have changed since our youth. Not really sure how we got into it but both of us are from different times but have alot of experiance with children. I am a swimming instructor and lifeguard and she was about twice my age and a school teacher. Durring this discussion we brought up instances where children are behaving more rude then either of us remembered from out own childhood. One thing that i remember most is having a 10 year old child use a more coulorful vocabulary then even I have in front of my other students, even going so far as to push another student from a different class into the deep end of the water. Of course i removed him from my lessons and i got into a huge argument with his father about it even though he was sitting in the gallery watching while his child was doing all this. My neighbor also related several of her own experiances at the nearby school. One that caught my attention was a child swearing at a teacher and telling her that she couldn't tell him what to do. So we got to talking over what has caused this shift in attitude between out generations. She came from the time when it was still common to use spanking, soap, tobasco sauce ect. and said that this was the reason why children these days are so unruly. I however come from the generation where this is uncommon and no one that i know of was actually ever severly punished yet we still never were this rude. So i'd thought that this would make a great topic to discuss. What is causing this shift in attitude? or has it always been there but we just notice it as we get older?
  20. i thought fire making would be lower on the list. I mean actually have more magic capes then there are fire making capes :ohnoes:
  21. My bets on a bard skill. In within the light the elf hints that you will be needed later to help regrow the city. And since you need to sing to do that, bard would be the obviouse choice if they plan on coming out with the next elf quest soon. It might also be a way to finally introduce more crystal weapons and armour  Although it's gonna stink if it helps with making bows and shields since i just finally got them to min recharge price
  22. At the same time if you are not prepared for the immediate future you will not be in a position to adabt when the world finally does change. One of the big problems I have about the current curriculum is that the only glimps into the world of banking, economics ect. is through calculating interest. Other then that you need to take special courses. And because of that a lot of people are clueless as to what actually happens in the real world when they need to start paying taxes, fill out the piles and piles of forms or even just making smart investments rather then believe the media hype that this company will do well and should be invested in. We arn't saying that all that we learn should be to help us with a job. But what we want is for courses to contain more practical knowledge that will actually help us when we finally leave those walls.
  23. Its times like this that i wish i didn't have dial up so i could actually watch it sometime this week
  24. I thought they scrapped that idea, not enough people interested or something. But i hope they are still doing it. There will always be RWT in runescape. What most of the recent updates did was actually make it so that the RWT's actually have to work for the little gold pieces that they are able to sell now.
  25. Hate the big bang/god debates since there is no way to actually prove either of them and we just keep going around in circles. I'm with nick and the few others who say that both of them are wrong. Seems that the bibal part of the debate is being handled by people more capabal then myself so i'll just foccus on the big bang theory. Someone mentioned on the first page that the scientist who first came up witht he idea of the big bang was a devout christian. What they failed to mention was that he wasn't coming up with the theory because he saw the red shift in light, or whatever it is that is used to justify the big bang these days, but because he was trying to prove that the universe "was" created. This led to what i believe scientists call bias in all of his following experiments. And unfortunatly the rest of the scientific community saw this as an opportunity to prove that the universe was created by natural laws and have since then set out trying to prove that the big bang did happen rather than trying to disprove it. For instance, the number 1 reason that people believe that the big bang happened. The universe is expanding. How do we actually know this? We probably don't even see a googleth?? of the universe and have actually only been monitering that portion for 100 years or so. Because of that we have no idea if we are actually moving away from the center of the univers or if we are just in an orbit similare to that of the planets in our solar system and havn't had the time to actually calculate it let alone see if its changing. And on top of that do we even know where the center of the universe is? Because its a little hard to figure out your moving away from something if you don't actually know where it is.
