Weekly Poll: native language servers, would you use?
BlueLancer replied to n_odie's topic in General Discussion
lol, I noticed that in FPS games. With all due respect, a big portion of Dutch people online behave like aggressive 10-year olds with ADHD. On tip.it there's a lot of cool Dutch people though. I always play games in English if possible, even if available in other languages I speak. (English is not my 1st language, or even 2nd). It's a pretty universal language, almost all people can understand at least basic words/phrases of it online. -
Bluray seems like a cheap marketing ploy... I do have a blu-ray drive on my other computer just for future convenience, but the quality improvement in audio/video is almost unnoticeable. Be realistic; The average user is not an audiophile or a mass consumer of films. The average user is a working man or a woman who rents or buys maybe 5 movies a year and watches them with his family. My father has a 15-year old TV, and the picture quality is almost flawless when watching cable TV. It makes me wonder what the heck are people paying for when they buy "high quality video technology". The quality difference between a normal DVD film and a Bluray (I've watched both kinds) practically doesn't exist. One of the few advantages is that even a huge film+ lots of special features can fit on a single, dual-layer BR disk (total of 50gb). Even if you can get a supposed "5%" image quality boost, it's not worth hundreds of dollars. A Bluray standalone player is currently a very shallow purchase. Bundled with a PS3 it has value though.

What I'm implying is that death is a too easy way out for a person that, say, killed 6 people. He has no regard for human life, not possibly even his own, so why would he care about dying at all? If you take his freedom away, the freedom to continue killing people, talk to anyone, visit places, considering the individual psychological profile of the offender.. It's likely much more painful especially if he's in solitary confinement. A lot of people just seem to think killers are like normal people, who just snap one day and decide to go on a spree. They're not. They almost without exception have mental problems for years. Their behavior and thinking models change radically. Some of them get involved in brutal organised crime and don't give two thoughts about killing someone. People committing offenses that warrant the death penalty in the US are not normal people. They don't respond to the threat of death or respect/revere it as you or I do. If you just make them live for decades without any purpose except sitting in a square room, it's going to punish even the worst serial killer.

Yep, exactly why I'd strongly recommend making a new email address for signing up to stuff like this. It seems to be paying out but you can see where most of the complaints come from... Expect to get massive spam because they will sell your email in a larger, compiled list to other advertisers.

I smoke rarely, mostly cigars I got as presents but also cigarettes to calm nerves... But I'd never do it around another person who is a non-smoker. It's not just the smell.. Take a look at the links on the previous page, passive smoking (i.e. inhaling the smoke another person is blowing out of his lungs) can be even more lethal than smoking itself. Why would you expose someone, especially your friend or family member to something they are uncomfortable with? The fat example doesn't compare at all.

From a legal viewpoint what DOOMY said is valid support for the death penalty in the countries that use it... If you have absolute, irrefutable proof (such as multiple independently-shot video tapes from various angles) of a horrible crime, the person probably should be put instantly on death row and executed. If it was, say, a murderer, what will killing him accomplish though? It certainly wont bring back the victims. It's instant gratification that will fade with time. I know a lot of people disagree on this issue, but from a parent's view for example.. Isn't it better he has to rot in a cell for the rest of his life, without any chance of getting out, being scorned by other prisoners? That seems like a worse punishment than experiencing a few seconds of pain & then dying off.. That's because you're an average, normal citizen. A person who commits crime for a living or kills for money lives in an almost different world than you. He might have nothing left to live for. The worst criminals constantly put themselves at risk, they don't care about dying as you or the average Joe would. Hence it'd be better to think what punishes them better, taking away their freedom forever, or just ending their misery early

You can discuss it's safety but removed the referral ID in case you just tried to indirectly advertise it (no offense) It's probably not a scam though, a lot of those sites have viable business models through the ads they display... I wouldn't enter any personal details there, just give them the minimum required (possibly make up a fake name, and create a new email as well to avoid future spam)

If you want various physical activities, I can recommend gym (with a moderate diet and planning), plus buy a pool table. Poker is also a really nice social game, and extremely cheap to set up, all you need is a deck of cards and a table. Swimming rules too and you can do it at almost no cost, $3 where I live for an hour. I usually go once a week Don't know if your parents would approve, but you could play console games with friends. I got the Wii/360 with a plasma mostly for playing with people who come over to my place. Console games are also fun to play alone, especially action/adventure ones (like Zelda and that stuff)

Unless you own the archive & forgot the pass it's not legal to brute force it open.

Probably have to select compatibility mode with right click on the executable. Try on WinXP compatibility mode, should work. Definitely will work on Win98. -

Capitalism is really just an economic model in which people are allowed to own private property & produce is regulated by supply and demand, it doesn't preach anything. If anything, it's people like politicians who preach about the advantages of capitalism and free market philosophy (which is not the best model for all countries). As a concept though, it makes no assumptions or boast of prosperity. It's a system that directly promotes inequality and income disparity. Capitalism is all about taking advantage... Workers don't really have any choice in poorer countries. They can either work for $1 an hour making expensive Nike shoes, or die of starvation, or go to jail because they steal food & water instead. I'm not against it, but it is a pretty ugly system. Cheap labor is what keeps western countries in business.

If you use Al-Jazeera as your news source, your a [bleep] dunce who shouldn't be allowed a view on the situation. You frankly have no idea what you're talking about ... Al Jazeera has won multiple awards for neutral coverage of sensitive subjects including commendations by Index on Censorship [1] for "courage in circumventing censorship and contributing to the free exchange of information in the Arab world." It's coverage of the Iraq invasion in 2003 also inspired a documentary film called "Control Room" [2] which gained numerous international awards [3] It also directly competes with services such as CNN and BBC... It's not some small-time 'propaganda' station, nearly 1/6th of the world population relies on it for daily news.

It's not even a deterrent, which is why I don't support it at all. A sociopathic person who is willing to kill other people or go into organised crime often has nothing left to lose in life. They don't care if they die in some gunfight or get stabbed in the neck. A lot of them can be suicidal as well. Isolating them from every other human being in the world for the rest of their lives is a much more painful punishment. People who think the death penalty is somehow a more 'powerful' punishment aren't looking at it from the eyes of a sociopathic killer who doesn't *care* about dying or living like an average person. For these people, specific punishments can be tailored that are much more effective and act as a better deterrent.

Is that so? I'd be interested in seeing a link. :) He's right, it's actually a drink or two a day of wine that can be beneficial to your health, but nonetheless http://www.ynhh.org/online/nutrition/ad ... _wine.html Due to the high amount of flavonoids it's very healthy for the heart especially. I don't have a habit of drinking wine at all, but it definitely makes sense to drink it in moderate amounts.

I always hated that aspect of video gaming.. A lot of games have buggy designs, so your hour of 'work' can be totally erased by an error you didn't even make at all. Like clearing your way through a level of intense enemies, then at the near-ending, you throw a grenade at a stock enemy.. Only to have it bounce through an obstacle's invisible barrier (such as a crate with an overly high-coded 'hitbox' compared to the actual graphic texture) back to you, and you die. It makes you wonder why you're wasting time on this crap

Not really.. Prepaid SIM cards are easily the most convenient way of using cellphones. It's anonymous, no bills, no contract, fixed rates, internet availability, works/activates instantly etc... Just fork up a few bucks, maybe $10-$20 in advance and you're set for a while, especially if you just make a few calls a day & some occassional text messages. There isn't really any logical reason for using a service plan in countries where prepaid is available due to the pros and cons of both options (with prepaid having practically no cons, unless you really want to be listed in a phone directory)

Heh, a pack of Cigarettes are like $6 here. (New York) Usually it's a bit less but near that price range.. If you smoked 2 cigarettes a day, it'd come to around 37 packs a year, which is $222 at that price. Not a particularly expensive habit, some people can spend that amount just on a pair of jeans or a quality jacket. I'd rather drop it for health reasons than the minimal financial ones. Anyone can afford smoking cigarettes, even the poorest people. (not to mention the fact cigarettes are dirt cheap in other countries, even as low as $0.20 per pack) It's only an expensive habit if you're a serious chain-smoker & consume 1-2 packs or more per day. In that case you can save thousands of dollars a year that could be spent on other useful things like a car, setting up a fund for your kid, a brand new computer etc. (2 packs a day at NY prices would cost over $4000 a year)

I don't comment on people's behavior unless they are family. I have to occassionally deal with a few people who openly use (hard) drugs; I don't judge them or throw a tantrum, even though they agree with my suggestions that it can mess you up. Especially if she's your ex-girlfriend, I wouldn't comment in any way. If you're outdoors you wont be even that affected while around her. The right 'play' is ignoring it... It's a minor thing really.
-
What I agree with is if a person does something horrible enough (like raping and killing people in full consciousness and with deep planning, especially children), he should lose all rights to truly humane treatment. What I disagree with is the concept that quick lethal pain is somehow a proper punishment. There are worse, psychological punishments available. Eternal solitary confinement with no access to any human being for the rest of his life is one of them. It's a ridiculously 'easy way out' to just kill someone. I would instantly select death over spending the next 70 years in a padded room into which you are handed a small meal tray once a day & you get to do nothing except stare at walls in silence. It will be much more painful for the person than lashing or stoning him to death, starvating him, injecting a lethal needle that puts him out of his misery in a few minutes etc...

 Sorry I had to.. But it's true.. I know some people who drink it bare without mixing, they only do it to get wasted

Even most criminals rather take their life than go back to prison for 20+ years especially if they've been "in" before. Taking away a person's freedom is much, much worse than killing them. I see it as a ridiculous punishment not because it's inhumane (in the case of some people, they would frankly deserve torture), but because it's ineffective. If my family member got killed, I'd much rather have them endure life without possibility of parole in prison, than die after a few years on death row...

I hope it lasts for you... But even the sweetest people can be devious or turn against you due to circumstances. The best way to be prepared is not be surprised if it happens. If you hooked up with the right type of person though, you can just 'know' they will stick with you through the good and the bad times. You're very much in luck by finding such a person. In the case of a lot of people you can almost instantly see how shallow they are just by listening to their speech, elitism, greed etc... These people wouldn't know true loyalty if it hit them in the face. Once in a while you'll meet a person free of hostile bias who just wants to live her life (or his, depending on which way you swing) and sticks with people close to her/him. How many of those skanks Donald Trump has been with would *instantly* dump him if his stock value went down to zero, or he got 5 years in prison for fraud? That's the kind of parasitic, whorish woman you should avoid at all costs, and find a real woman.

I don't really gain joy anymore from anything except helping people. And maybe from having a child, but haven't experienced that yet... Kids are the best thing in the world. They say things like they are, don't stab you in the back, they can be taught to be good & considerate, they can genuinely enjoy small things like playing with other kids, toys, football, etc. There is no comparable joy like seeing your child (or someone else's) being happy. It's the only thing left that sparks an emotional reaction to me. I wouldn't say at all "love" (besides the parental one) is the greatest joy. That's hollywood bullsĀhit. It's extremely hard to find a person who will unquestionably love another person for the duration of their life. Most people are just selfish animals who will show their true colors when under pressure, unfavourable conditions, financial trouble... When young people mention "love", maybe they really just mean lust. Wanting to have sex with someone a few times is not love or a reason to get married. True love can apply both to significant others and family members. It means you stay with that person & help them even if they hit the rock bottom or go to jail. You are there for them at times of distress. You will take a bullet and fight to death for that person even if mobsters threaten her/his life. You will sell your house and car to pay for a critical heart surgery they need to stay alive. If you only go by lust and think that's love, you'll learn it the hard way... You'll hook up with people with their own interests in mind only. You will get exploited financially for some dinners and expensive gifts, then dumped like a cold sponge at the first sign of trouble or when the person gets bored of you.

I have nothing against jews, just remember... You're living in a land area *they* were thrown out of because Europeans decided they had a collective feeling of guilt after the holocaust. They aren't rejected from countries, where are people getting this stuff from? Egypt has been constantly helping palestinians: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/12/ ... Border.php http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20081222/wl ... asegyptaid As an Israeli it's surprising that you don't know at all what you're talking about. Countless countries give help to Palestinians both politically and financially, even the European Union has given massive aid to the Palestinians despite Hamas being elected http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/06/18/news/union.php Saying they are somehow "rejected" is totally racist, inaccurate and ridiculous.
