  1. That reminds me, in Afghanistan, the Taleban movement has threatened (and executed those threats) to suicide bomb any buses or restaurants near the Pakistani border or inside Afghanistan, that plays any sort of music or video films for the customers' entertainment. Apparently goes against their personal, narrow religious concepts that the great majority of muslims don't agree with.
  2. XP runs extremely fast on newest computer rigs, much faster than Vista. Frankly I don't even see the need to make exclusive tests about it; Just try dual booting yourself. The difference is obvious due to the way XP allocates resources (and consumes less RAM). It also runs significantly less background processes, and the kernel is lighter & it boots faster (I get from BIOS screen to desktop in roughly 10-15 seconds) I prefer Linux, but I do use Vista for it's extra functionality on my other PC. Some programs and hardware drivers are already being geared towards Vista and Win7 only, so XP could become obsolete in some areas just like Windows 98 did.
  3. Looks like a game I'd fork out cash for, despite the sub-standard graphics. I wont even try out another mass-produced Korean game with mana/hp meters with an overly bulky-armoured guy walking around slashing orcs for XP points, this game & it's interesting combat system looks like a fresh change. Thanks for the tip.
  4. 60-70c is a normal operating temperature for GPU's, some newer nVidia cards can even go up to 85c when optimized and cleaned. I prefer to run at around 40-50c though (you can use RivaTuner to tweak internal settings of the 8600) If it's the fan noise only that bothers you, it could be dying or just full of dust. You can easily remove it from the AGP/PCIE slot and either use compressed air (very cheap) or toothpicks (even cheaper) to remove dust compounds around the heatsink. If it still makes considerable noise, the fan is failing.
  5. I only see it as murder if the baby is old enough to sustain itself (through the help of other human beings). Weighing under 500 grams and being just a few weeks old, I wouldn't say aborting the fetus is a form of murder. It could only stay alive through it's (it doesn't even have a gender at that point) mother. If I somehow had the choice, I'd much rather be left unborn than live a life of hell & drug abuse, rape, etc.. In dire poverty. Some people are doing their future children a favor by saving them the misery of existence in the worst of the worst conditions. Cinderella stories are movie fantasies, most people who get born into almost-literal hell, will live through it for the rest of their life. Aborting a child in a developed country, say France, Japan, Sweden, for example, even if it's way too young to sustain itself out of the womb, seems a bit wrong, because it could likely, nearly without exception, survive & life a stable life, even if in the care of a foster family. It is the choice of the mother.. But abortion with the mother's best interest in her mind (and not that of the child's well being) seems like selfish, pre-meditated killing. If the mother suspects the child has any chance of living a proper life, she should give him/her a chance.
  6. lol. I'm not surprised, dark rum is great, but... It does taste like crap if you drink it 'raw'. Few people probably like the taste unless significantly mixed with other drinks (or just the classic coke/pepsi)
  7. Nobody else here seems to like rum  Besides that & plain water if thirsty, anything made from the fruit pear tastes great
  8. I got into a pretty long correspondence with 1 scammer from Congo in 2005, it's too long to copy+paste here though... I first kept serious & asked for instructions, then kept asking him things like his favourite food, if I may send the 'advance legal fee' in a coin bag, claiming my local Western Union caught fire just as I was sending the money, asking if he could send me coffee beans as a souvenir etc... Eventually after a few weeks he just stopped mailing back: sir, this is merely wasted time, your funds of $14,500,000.00 shall not be retrieveable and deposited onto a bank account of your selection any longer. only have yourself to blame for this. frankly i lose temper with you for many weeks now, and progress has not been made. conversations are over. -signed, Kibeki Mbutu, deputy director of Central Bank of Congo I sent him some more messages afterwards but he wouldn't reply.
  9. Nice to see how close minded your are on other peoples cultures. From a logical viewpoint, it is a stupid belief. The sole news value relies on the ridiculousness of the belief, normal car thefts don't inspire many news articles. The default truth value is known; That the belief is false. Educated people even in Nigeria no longer believe in these things. It's mostly the non-urban, impoverished population that can barely even read (or write). The goat isn't a morphed human. Even some CC footage could prove the goat just happened to be there at the time of the car theft. It's not racism to say only an extremely, very uneducated person would come to the conclusion mentioned in the news article. I don't think they are inferior. They are just rationally challenged when it comes to understanding reality, just as many people were in western countries just a hundred years ago (and as far as some small cults are concerned, still are) It's not the only incident either... I read this in the NY Post earlier last year http://www.nypost.com/seven/04232008/ne ... 107774.htm It's only the result of lacking education
  10. It actually has better overall compatibility with earlier Windows platform programs, like ones designed for Win98, XP, etc... The worst problem is probably that if you have an older graphics card (which still performs adequately under Vista) that has nVidia/Catalyst drivers that don't run under Windows 7 (which needs specific drivers, old Catalyst ones for example may not support Radeon X800 and older cards), you'll be unable to game at all & the desktop will look horrible at 800x600. You would have to wait until they release Windows 7 drivers for it. Here's one such typical thread from another forum I occassionally visit http://www.overclock.net/ati/441736-win ... alyst.html Especially for laptops it can be a pain in the behind, you'll first have to install XP drivers (on Windows 7), and even then, installers, games & applications will freeze or crash often
  11. Hi, I researched your problem since so few people even bothered to open the topic. Several users online complained that this error happens while installing the Deskjet driver software by downloading via Internet Explorer 8 which corrupts the download for some reason. A suggested solution is downloading via FF or Opera. Post back if you have this problem or if you even used IE in the first place, so people can find other solutions if that doesn't fix it.
  12. I never use any software unless it has clear, concrete advantages compared to other available ones on the market... Just burned the .iso and installed Win7 on another hard-drive, I'd recommend it just for the speed improvement alone... On a pretty basic dual-core rig with 4gb of RAM, it boots from the BIOS screen onto the desktop within 20 seconds. Vista takes me about a minute or so. The visual style is a pretty bad reason 'not' to upgrade. Just because it "looks" like Vista doesn't mean it's anything like it. Sure, the kernel is probably 99% based on it. It does look similar as well. But it's a horrible point to consider when weighing the cons and pros of trying it. It doesn't even cost anything. The only problem is compatibility issues. Some games and programs that worked on XP and Vista will not run on Win7 beta. In the worst case, your graphics card will not support Windows 7 at all. Also, if you use cracked "no-CD exes", expect a lot of problems, rendering issues, or the application not starting up at all etc.
  13. 45-50c is a normal operating temperature under load for air cooled desktop processors. To maximize the life of the processor, the idle temps should be around 30-35 (again, you can push this way lower, to around 15-20c with water cooling, but for most people this will be a waste of money). You got all temps at 40 so that's nothing to worry about. Also if you run benchmarking tools, or programs like SuperPi that test the raw power of the processor... It will climb extremely high due to 100% usage, even up to 60+ momentarily. That's normal, just don't run it at those temperatures all day.
  14. You applied proper thermal paste like arctic silver and cleaned the heatsink before attaching it, right? You will get major overheating issues if you don't apply silver or other thermal paste (in some cases, even the stock included-paste is faulty or not enough to keep it cool, you'll need to use isopropanol alcohol to clean it off) between the processor and the sink. Only a very small amount should be used, the size of a rice grain If you don't apply it, the computer will shut down due to high temperature itself after maybe half a minute or less, if it does work momentarily you'll get display artifacts, bluescreens and other errors. It's absolutely *not* possible to run a computer without applying a thermal solution between the aluminium/copper heatsink and the top of the processor. (Unless you have water cooling, even then it's recommended)
  15. I've been to plenty of countries, from a totally objective viewpoint I can say the Netherlands, and all nordic countries (except Denmark which is slightly more close-minded) are the freest countries on the entire planet. There are next to no social taboos, high level of prosperity, generally high standard of living, very effective social policies & support for poor people, etc. America isn't even close to real freedom as experienced in Europe and some other parts of the world, although it has a nice social structure for financially well-off people. USA is a paradise if you have lots of money. In any other case it's a mediocre country.. Sure, the strong army is a deterrent which will ensure foreign nations wont destroy your home, but the level of crime and social inequality inside the country is pretty high.
  16. Israel can have Utah, because God knows we don't want it. ..lol. Completely o/t, but.. For some reason all the people from Utah I talked to *despise* their state and want to get out of there. Even mr. Maddox made an entire article on how much "Utah blows". It can't be that bad can it -.-
  17. Without commenting on the freedom, that's just a short list of the propositions the US (as a permanent member) has veto'ed in the United Nations. It's ridiculous how they will veto literally everything that puts Israel in bad light, even if they've committed blatant human right abuses or genocide.
  18. Friends are everything if you want to keep life interesting. I don't think I've ever met a truly depressed person that has loads of real friends, not just 'buddies' who leave on 1st sign of trouble. Good friends can ultimately be considered as important as family members, especially if you've known them since childhood.
  19. It can be harder to do for the younger folks around here. A lot of the time being under legal age sucks because you can do so few things, usually don't have your own apartment/full time job or income yet, etc... I certainly didn't "love" my life as a teen, to me, real life seemed to only begin at maybe 18 when you could take responsibility, earn real money (not just pocket change), join the army, not be dependent on parents etc, get a car, free to book flights/enter nightclubs with friends, buy cigarettes or alcohol etc.. It's especially painful for a male to live in the teens if they want relationships, because few girls will stick long-term with someone who can't be seen as a provider, has no disposable income, car or job, still physically developing etc... And will ditch them for someone older after several months, or become unfaithful & pretend to upkeep a relationship. It sucks big time, and can even lead to suicide because in reality, the guy did nothing wrong. It's messed up. I don't blame the girls either because of course they want security too, but the world is skewed against young males age 12-17 big time.
  20. lol, this is pretty pathetic, but back in 2001 when high-end rune could only be created by Bluerose13x, one night I dreamed about walking in the dwarven mines near Falador & found a rune square shield near a rock (there were next to none in the game at the time, only her friends had them). Was pretty disappointed after waking up & instantly logging on RS just to find my inventory as it was before. Then again I was way younger then, haven't even played RS or other mmorpg's actively for 5-6 years now.
  21. (Sorry Ugo for not answering the question directly) Does it run cool enough while playing games like Crysis? Like in the 45c-60c range. Under load that's considered a normal temperature. If so, that's an impressive laptop for just a grand.
  22. Life is short as hell. Even if you're 15, assuming you'll have an extremely long life up to a hundred years old, you've already lived 15% of your life and barely experienced anything (in the broad concept) yet. Once in a while forget about school and work and try to live. Do something you truly enjoy. Be with your significant other. Party. Get into a car race. Throw a big party.. Anything, depending on your personality. Sadly, you do need money to do things in life you want to, but if you put your mind to it at a young age, you can save up money even by regular work. Just by saving up $2k a year with summer jobs from ages 16-21 (ridiculously easy, just work summer jobs) you'll already have $10k which goes a long way for a pretty nice car, multiple vacations etc.. Save up more $ per year and you can even have your own house or business while still being very young. Hedonism is a short sighted life view but you have to indulge sometimes. Growing old and realizing how badly you want to be young again to do things.. Is one of the most dreadful feelings and thoughts I can think of..
  23. What I do agree with is that some punks wouldn't know respect if it slapped them in the face; In the worst cases, these unruly kids will go spread rumors about someone being 'gay' and howling insults at every chance in the halls, etc... Respect can only be earned, but that kid didn't even have basic common courtesy. While assaulting him was one of the worst options, it will certainly keep him from doing it in the future. If my own kid was acting that idiotic, I wouldn't be so mad if the victim finally snapped and punched him in the face. It's a lesson learned the hard way... Don't act like an idiot and start fights, making rude remarks about others physical appearances, clothes, etc., that's just asking for trouble. Then again, if I have a kid he/she will never grow up to become a brat like that. I'd bet money that kid who kept making fun of you either lacks a father figure or his parents never restricted him in any matter.
  24. Probably have to select compatibility mode with right click on the executable. Try on WinXP compatibility mode, should work. Definitely will work on Win98. Tried the WinXP compatibility mode, didn't work for me. Dammit. Then I'm afraid it might not work on Vista, wouldn't bet on that, but it's very likely that's the problem if you have a 64-bit Vista. A lot of old apps and games wont work on new platform 64-bit OS's/ run at all. Latest OS I ran it on was XP unfortunately
  25. You failed by overreacting. I've seen the most macho and physically strong, ego-conscious adults just shrug off people calling them names. If your story is even true (sounds like a revenge fantasy), unless someone threatens to kill your family, your reaction, assaulting him, is totally wrong. You're lucky you didn't get time in a juvenile detention center. Words are almost never a proper justification for physical attacking.
