  1. Most people can't afford that luxury, I wouldn't blame them for buying whatever is the cheapest just to feed their family. Only after you permanently have a roof above your head, have a job, money, safety.. Then you may have time to think about ethical food choices and whether to buy the healthier alternative or the cheap one. Until then you'll likely just want to stay alive. It's pretty self-evident eating organic & good quality food is better for your health, but I doubt a lot of people on tip.it, especially those on a students typical budget, can make that choice even if they want to. It's so much easier to grab a pack of chicken ribs and microwave it, than pay $6 more for some premium organic tofu, free-range eggs and fair-trade tomatoes for a vegetarian meal. I even dare say, special diets not arising out of allergy, are a 100% western phenomena (or of well-off people in general). You will be hard pressed to find people living in poverty making choices about what they eat, & refusing to consume what's available cheaply.
  2. I don't really get it why people are bashing on the PC port as being horrible and buggy... It runs absolutely, 100% perfect with about 40-45 FPS on the following configuration I have on my other PC 4GB ram Radeon 3850 HD 512MB E5200 Dual Core 2.5ghz (overclock to 3.3) Didn't finish the whole game yet, but I haven't entered a single bug or error. My friend tried the game on his 1GB ram, some mid-range nvidia card and a P4 2.8ghz, and it ran like total crap. It barely even started up and frequently crashed/gave error messages. It's not an optimized port, but it's good. If you get problems while playing, it's highly likely the PC has inadequate specs for playing it.
  3. It is bad, a diet consisting only/mostly of proteins and no carbohydrates has health hazards but can also make you extremely nauseous and irritated, and cause cravings. Most people that eat meat though, usually eat a side dish with carbohydrates, so that's not a problem. Lack of vitamins from an overly protein-based diet is a hazard too.. As the article says bringing nothing new to the table, "balanced diet is the key issue"
  4. Jagex is no longer a small bedroom operation by Andrew and his brother. He owes thanks to the old F2P population for spreading the game, continuing to play it, etc.. But even if he and his brother left now, Jagex has evolved into massive corporate organisation. Their main concern is now profit, not providing free entertainment. I'm F2P and have been since 2002 (after trying P2P for some months), and I wouldn't say I deserve anything. If you just play the game for free and load the banner ad, you don't deserve anything really. If anything, you should be happy it's available free of charge. Sure, even if RS required payment, you could play some buggy illegal private server that can be shut down at any time.. And would have less than 0.1% of the original player base. The free version of RS is really good for a browser game, although I quit playing ages ago
  5. That study compares vegetarians to "people who eat lots of meat." Other studies have suggested that the mortality rates of moderate meat- and/or fish- eaters is not significantly different from vegetarians. The following study, for example, suggests that fish eaters (0.82) and occasional meat-eaters (0.84) show lower mortality rates than vegetarians (0.94) after confounding factors have been accounted for. Mortality in vegetarians and nonvegetarians: detailed findings from a collaborative analysis of 5 prospective studies That other study I linked to found similar conclusions; Hence I mentioned the significant health benefits and protein sources gained from fish. People who occassionally eat meat also have a much lower mortality rate than pure-vegetarians or people who *only* eat meat. [1]
  6. 8-) I did have a boss when I did summer job stints as a teen, and in the army (in the form of superior ranked officers that could also order you to bring them a drink after training etc)... But never had a 'job boss' per se, because I mostly do full-time stock investment for a living. If there's nothing interesting going on during the day though, & my friends are all at work, I just browse forums like this, read financial news etc.. I'm interested in looking into other business though, such as a partial ownership share of a night club etc. I only had simple office jobs as a teen, can't really recall having any 'nazi' bosses. Maybe a bit nitpicky and overly caring about minor details, but nothing serious. Heard countless horror stories about inadequate leadership and power abuse though, it can be hard to bear for young people just starting out in a field.
  7. Locking up people who have superior technological skills along with 60-IQ street muggers, con artists and murderers has absolutely no benefits for the government. They have much more to gain by utilizing their skills for foreign espionage, patching agency firewalls, improving encryption algorithms, etc. The kid in this article wasn't really some super-hacker, but real hackers capable of constantly creating new security exploits swiftly are impossible to find on the 'open market'. They can't be trained in masses by an university. They either do it out of curiosity, to gain excitement, or pure financial profit, and are often self taught. If the federal gov. can get legal authority to get one of the people they were chasing to work for them, they've literally hit the jackpot in the form of being able to protect their intellectual assets, computers, confidential files, etc.. Through him. (In this case I don't think the FBI has anything to gain from him, since he really just used basic backdoors and doesn't have *that* special skills, the thread is really about the severity of his punishment)
  8. You're right, plants and vegetables all have some protein, but it's not enough to sustain a healthy upkeep of the muscular system. Here's some data on the various nutritional items you can get from vegetables http://www.healthalternatives2000.com/v ... chart.html For example, half a cup of carrots contains a bit under 1 gram of protein (but a lot of fibers that help with keeping hunger away) An average male adult (defined as either 16 or 18 years old) needs roughly 100 grams of protein per day, more or less depending on body weight, and an average female adult needs about 90 grams of protein per day. You would need to eat a massive amount of vegetables each day to meet your protein needs (such as about 50 cups of carrots), while 'omnivorious' people eating both vegetables and meats can get the entire day's needs from a meal of cooked fish or steak. As said though, tofu is a huge part of vegetarian diets and eating portions of tofu during the day provides enough protein to keep them healthy. Eggs are also another source of protein.
  9. Note to Pryo: Drunk frat parties are bad Drunk frat parties are bad Drunk frat parties are bad
  10. Ok, I agree vegetarians are rarely physically strong, but vegetarianism (or at least semi-vegetarianism with fish meat) combined with vitamins and tofu has major health benefits, a cleaner body, less toxins, etc.. And vegetarians in general live longer than other people. [1]. I love various meats and could probably never be vegetarian, at least for prolonged periods of time. Still it's very factually inaccurate to say vegetarianism has no health benefits, it has huge benefits for those who commit themselves to a vegetarian diet. The only real problems in those diets can arise from lack of protein. You mentioned "meat builds muscle" which is correct, because meats contain proteins. A vegetarian can get proteins especially from beans and tofu. If the diet lacks protein the person can experience muscle catabolism, which is not fatal but reduces the all-around muscle mass, including that of the skeletal muscles.
  11. You can't just have a flat stomach and an otherwise fat body. The only way to 'keep' a sixpack is by constantly keeping a healthy, low overall body fat %. Just like you can't have one fat leg and one trained like that of Achilles himself. Your muscle level between different body parts can differ, but their visibility is entirely dependent on total body fat. (Liposuction is the only exception)
  12. It's so cute how you think CSIs exist everywhere. K, go murder someone and we'll see if you get caught USA is an exception... Take Mexico for example, there have been thousands of drug related and gang murders just this year alone, often done in mass-execution style shootings that kill up to 25 people at once [1] What exactly is the police force going to do in towns like Ciudad Juarez and Tijuana that are almost completely controlled by criminals? They can't just go into gang turfs and snoop around with forensics teams... Don't forget that everyone is still only human regardless of having equipment or badges, even recent aid like helicopters from the US. The vast majority of the mass killings in Mexico go unsolved because nobody wants to risk their own life for a job that pays maybe $200 a month (when rich drug cartels can pay them even up to tens of thousands of $ to drop the investigation, or alternatively kill them if they refuse)
  13. Hi, Post on this topic to get help & possible files needed in rendering etc. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=690610
  14. Seems like a working idea, by engaging the browsers they ensure good advertisement & publicity for Bayer. Had to search for a random aussie zip code though; search returned 2601 for Canberra (had to think up some place :D )
  15. Would probably sell for a few hundred bucks if they had a legal market for accounts  Sure, an account made in 2001 has sentimental value & memories from back when I was pretty much just a brat, but you got to move on in life... Wouldn't think twice to sell it for $500 or $1k (nothing special these days, over level 100 though). If my old friends played RS now though, I wouldn't sell it at all. The community is bloated with unknown kids now, back in the beginning with just a single server you at least remotely remembered every username that walked past you, maybe you even chatted or skilled with some of them regardless of the lack of a friend's list.

 Very interesting genetic mutation... Repost on this topic though viewtopic.php?f=10&t=561170
  17. I see, anything you disagree with must be immature, how grown up of you. 8-) Laws are there for a reason, don't break them if you are not prepared to take the punishment. Laws are based on logic and public consensus. It's emotionally and logically immature to support a 38-year jail sentence for something you *personally* would deem worth it, especially if no humans were hurt. I would hate to get robbed and lose my TV while I'm away from home. That doesn't mean I have to support a 10-year jail sentence for the burglar. Stealing a $200 item does not warrant such a harsh penalty, it's ridiculous. He may have various motives and problems that led him to steal my TV set. I wouldn't care particularly why, but he should be punished reasonably. It's not reasonable to jail a teen (yes, a 18 year old is a teen despite being legally an adult) for more than twice the amount of the time he's lived.. For changing school grades. The deed and punishment don't meet, hence if you just sadistically think it's justified without considering any actual harm done, that stance is immature. Even a killer would get a lesser sentence, and instead of taking a free grade, he's taken the life of another human. Didn't imply that you're immature at all, but it's immature to judge people harshly & totally disregard the severity of their deeds. Besides the minimal financial stress of cleaning the school computers of the backdoors/spyware, and changing some master test/exam paper answers... Nobody got hurt in the process, and his grades were reversed. To put some perspective, here's the French legislation on the life imprisonment[1]: Any reasonable person wouldn't equate that kid's crimes with some of the worst deeds the sickest people in the world do to a human (or in the case of some convicts, multiple humans, even children) and jail him for a longer time period.
  18. I got that G5 mouse on my desktop system, but I barely ever play games anymore so it gets little use, maybe once a month. The weight cartridge system is more or less a gimmick; I don't notice any difference while using 4.5 grams or more of weight, or none at all. It's very accurate though, if you like strategy and FPS games that require fast reflex, it's perfect. It definitely beats all the cheap stock mice I used years ago. On laptop I use a generic Microsoft wireless laser mouse with around 1000dpi. Can't say from experience wireless is unreliable, and 1 AA battery lasts even up to half a year if you don't click around crazy. Wired has it's perks though, like lower latency, and no need to recharge or buy new batteries.
  19. So someone who worked hard to go to uni may miss out as he takes their place? Missing an university spot means the offender has to be given a 3x higher prison sentence than a murderer would? On average you get 5 years for aggravated assault, 8 for voluntary manslaughter, 12 for murder... 38 for altering school grades/stealing test results? Only an immature person would deem it a just punishment... And as the title says, that's the maximum penalty if convicted on all 69 counts (highly unlikely). Even most war criminals sentenced to prison by the ICC get around 10-20 years on average for extermination, mass murder and genocide of civilian populations... What in comparison is turning a virtual letter from F to A? Unless people suddenly became detached from reality, I might add that the school grades of 1 person mean absolutely squat in the world. Missing an university spot doesn't mean anything in the big picture either. The punishment is ridiculous.
  20. If it only weren't for the fact you constantly need to buy new hardware to keep playing at an optimal graphics quality. To be able to play newest games like GTA4 on a PC with quality graphics & no screen lag, not only do you need at least a dual/quad core processor, you will need roughly 4GB of RAM and a 512MB-1GB graphics card, and a good motherboard. Doesn't sound bad in concept, but a lot of people can't just buy a new $1000+ computer every time a new game comes out. Before long games will require 16GB RAM and multicore processors just to even start up. I usually play on the PC but consoles are much more stable... If you buy a game for your console, you're guaranteed to get it running (unless it's a defective CD of course). If you buy a game for your PC, you'll just get a bitter disappointment after finding out a part on your system is inadequate & you need to spend hundreds of dollars for a component.
  21. There are countless religious and christian people who don't believe in literary creationism. Christianity also doesn't equal religion because only about 25% of the world's population belong to that religious group. Muslim, buddhist, hindu and non-religious make up 3/4th of the world population, which means christianity = / = religion as a whole. Most of the world is not christian or has anything to do with the friction of believers in that theory, rendering any appeal to popularity meaningless. They offer no kind of actual proof "evidence" whatsoever. Sites like this are the top results for creationism evidence http://www.allaboutcreation.org/evidenc ... sm-faq.htm It's not a claim by "God Himself". It's a text in a scripture that was written by a human being and translated from Hebrew and Greek into other languages. I don't even want to start dissecting that. It makes no logical sense. It is not proof at all. Those conclusions and "evidence" run so contrary to actual, reproducable & documented scientific evidence it's ridiculous. I'm not biased against religion at all, or even the general concept of creationism. I just find it stupifying how any educated and reasonable person can take the above as "evidence" as opposed to real, objective research about the origins of the planet, which is also taught at the college and university level.
  22. Just write your message and quickly press tab twice, then space(or enter), try it.. Much faster and fluent, I used it for years on forums, should work on every browser because it actually presses the submit
  23. that is probably the best thing i have ever heard of Sounds fabricated/made-up, though not very utopistic seeing as Japan already has robots for multiple purposes, like cleaning floors or bringing elderly people food from the fridge, even playing sports with kids or pets. I'd be skeptical of people claiming to have 'fun-purpose' robots, because they are extremely expensive and almost non-existent in the US/Europe (where the only robots currently available are grass cutters, pool/house floor cleaners etc.) It's not something an average Joe can just pick up in a store to amuse himself. A robot that would throw projectiles like beer cans would need an extremely sophisticated chip to calculate the weight & shape of the item, length of the flight travel, proper angle & force, identifying a human target, etc... It's hard to see it exist, let alone pass basic CE safety regulations.
