My government is currently planning to set-up the same Internet Censorship that is in place in China. A national filter will block "Unwanted Content" (their term not mine) however unlike China we do have a small amount of democracy and people are fighting back, it is the Internet that allows us to organise our protests, petitions, letters and rally further support. Without the free-speech the internet offers us, resistance would not be possible because we simply would not have the tool to get the word out. http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/12/30/au ... -internet/ http://www.nocleanfeed.com/ We will become the first Western Democracy to have oppressive internet censorship. It's not a career suicide for the politicians though, because as far as I've read about the issue, the censorship has vast support amongst parents and 35+ people in Australia. There is some content online I wouldn't even personally mind being censored & I'm not even near that age. China's censorship scheme is entirely different; They have threatened companies like Google to change their search results or be banned from their markets. The people get an entirely different view of the world and are not even allowed to access certain news agencies (they get a 404 error). Australia is mostly looking to ban illegal content from being accessed via an ISP level filter, the main counterargument I've seen is some paranoid people fear they will ban websites of political parties or forums (which sounds ridiculous as they could never get away with it & would get serious pressure from other western countries)

5th December 2008 - Christmas Packages in the Jagex Store
BlueLancer replied to death666bl00ms's topic in General Discussion
It's not a bad design but I'd imagine more people to buy it if it didn't have that RS logo - reality is what it is. A kid these days is barely going to get any positive responses to wearing a shirt that says RuneScape in the middle. Heck, you might just as well wear a baseball cap that says "Google" on the front in large letters, have a "math is fun" schoolbag and then wonder why everyone is pushing and kicking you. I'm by no means prejudiced against anyone; I'm just observing the ruthless bullying nature of young people; what you will likely experience. IMO it's actually a very nice shade of red, a really neat shirt. -
I stopped taking these because I always get the same "INTJ" result, just tried this because it's on tip.it I wouldn't make any judgements or self perceptions based on it, it's barely an "objective" test. If anything it tries hard to only make positive assertions while ignoring weaknesses. The tests also weakly measure musical and linguistic abilities. I can barely play 1 instrument yet speak multiple languages fluently (English isn't even my 1st or 2nd language) & it displays as the other way around.

Emo much? He was about the age of a frat kid when he wrote that, plus he wasn't making any money off the game back then. If anything, he was first hosting RS out of his own pocket for the enjoyment of others. Happy birthday btw 8-)

My entire mother's side of the family celebrates it, lol. And I give & get presents. Just saying the tradition has been going on since pagan times and barely has anything at all to do with Jesus being born. Maybe some conservative christians would even view it as blasphemy to celebrate his birth on an irrelevant date. At least in scandinavian countries, when it comes to christians the tradition mostly involves going to a church for mass, listen to the pastor thanking God for the past year, and eating ham/various holiday foods. Jesus being born on 25th of Dec is considered more of a tale like the Santa Claus giving toys to good kids rather than an actual truth (with the exception that Jesus was an actual historical person though, while Santa Claus or 'sinterklaas' is disputed or mythological).

Interrupted server-side connection or insufficient cache in your Mozilla folder. You should test if it's only related to a site or certain sites, try downloading a test file, either 2mb or 15mb (you can delete it afterwards; It's just for testing the connection) and see if it interrupts in the middle, post back with results You can also download another browser like Opera that allows instant resuming of interrupted files & shows the exact amount transfered [hide=] [/hide]

I plugged in 3 old USB mouses I don't use.. To try this for fun; It does work  You wont get 3 different cursors though, but every one of them will be capable of moving it. A bit bizarre, but completely useless, as I can't see how it could be an advantage in any work situation or game.

Exactly what I learned both in the army & later in Krav Maga lessons: 07jnqD8wvyE If in civilian life you're pointed at with a gun, your first and foremost option is giving the robber the freaking cellphone or wallet with 20 bucks, even if you have a knife or gun. You should only attempt to attack back & possibly try disarming him if it becomes clear you have given him everything & he is willing to take your life or harm another human being physically. The amount of arrogance by some teens here is astonishing; That kind of situation is not an ego issue nor does it have anything to do with the bill of rights or the constitution. It can mean the difference between your life and death. Don't try to be a hero. God forbid you ever have to face that kind of situation, please use common sense. Forget the fiction and fantasy you see in hollywood movies and concentrate on staying alive in reality

Trailers are pretty misleading though, which doesn't exclude Valve trailers.. Take a look at CounterStrike Online Valve had been developing for a while & released in October this year, seems like an all-new counterstrike with hugely improved graphics and a game engine: OfT4A5fql_0 Reality? I made an account & patched the client from the very, very slow chinese server, and all it turns out to be is literally a CS 1.6 with an item shop and game lobbies like in MMOFPS games, and you can earn some extra money or "points" by winning matches. Half-life is one of my favourite games, would gladly try an improved version, but never get your hopes too high based on game trailers.

But your brain cells(for males) are not done devoping yet at 18. Sometimes it takes until like 20 or something? Idk our history teacher gave us a lecture on this but I wasn't listening lol Considering there are immensely stupid people at all age spectrums, I don't see how that's true or has any relevance. There are 16-18 year olds smarter than I or you will ever be, and there are those who still act like a kindergardener throwing tantrums and hitting people when he/she doesn't get something.

Wow. Even though they wore civilian clothing as a diversion, I find it 100% impossible to believe they were just normal angry civilians with rifles. I will bet money on that fact. To be able to hold them off for that long they must've undergone rigorous training from Pakistan SF operatives or another country's special forces (not likely american though). Someone had a motive in causing destruction in Mumbai, doesn't seem that "random" at all

Seeing as December 25th has no factual or historical basis in being the birthdate of Jesus Christ, and most christian theologians put his birth anywhere from March to September, it seems much more viable to celebrate it as a family & friend occassion which can also include giving and recieving gifts.

I thought that was pretty damn offensive kenshin, seeing as I have known a bipolar person in real life since childhood, there are also some users on tip.it with BPD, it's absolutely *not* a load of crap. It's a very specific and unfortunate mental disorder that can lead to suicide in the worst case even if the person seems happy on the outside. The mood swings associated you wouldn't wish on any person, because they are not controllable and will cause huge problems in school/work life.

Not a video link to be exact, and I know it's practically a serious issue, but I thought this article is full of awesome (because it's real) http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/africa/12/01/pirate.interview/ This must be one of the coolest guys in existence right now. And his name is Boyah. Damn.

A better question is why would you intentionally speak/write like a fool.. It doesn't take any longer to type words as they should be than it does to write in 'online lingo'. By typing properly, just like speaking properly in real life, you assure everyone (or most people) will get your point. If you speak in immature internet abbreviations/acronyms, improper punctuation & grammar, maybe 1/5th of readers wont understand what you mean. Maybe ½. Maybe nobody understands if you write horribly enough. Try it sometimes.. Once you've written "properly" since a kid, you can't forget how to do it or revert back. It can also be helpful in a job/school.

So supposedly Player Mods have to report federal crimes?
BlueLancer replied to XxTearGodxX's topic in General Discussion
That p-mod is way over his head, maybe trying to score extra "points" with Jagex? No idea what he was thinking... I don't support stealing wireless bandwidth, seeing as I've been stolen from in the past when I had unprotected wireless (didn't mind *that* much), but I can imagine a snitch like this having few or no real friends... What's next, reporting people admitting to jaywalking in real life & referring to state laws to ban their RS account? -
Maybe you're associating with immature people then. Somebody's still got to give those presents that somebody else gets? It's not just the parents and cousins... [True] friends also give gifts to each other.

MP3-encoded music is digital art

Everyone KNOWS It's not about what you get. The presents are a side attraction. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. It should still be more religious though. If you were referring to christianity, Jesus wasn't born anywhere near December 25th. The winter time from November to January has been a time of celebration in countless cultures even during pagan times, it has little to do with religion and more with spending time together and socializing. I still agree with dizzle that even though some people find the materialism around modern holidays disgusting, that means you can't enjoy some of it. I'm certainly not turning away christmas cards and token gifts from my friends. I view it as a sign of respect and friendship they even bothered to send something. There's nothing bad about giving or recieving gifts itself.

Runescape Named One Of The Best Time Wasters
BlueLancer replied to Warrior_B666's topic in General Discussion
In hellbellz's defence though.. What are you going to do with good grades if your health is ruined already at age 25, you begin to develop heart conditions due to overweight, etc..? Sports has *every* long term benefit imaginable. You will feel better. It will improve your physical looks. Your general health improves. You can meet like-minded people. You can get involved in competitions and learn how to co-operate with other people. Physical prowess can also be beneficial in certain jobs. I'll take a risk and say every normal person in the world you'll deal with, business and leisure time alike, will give you inherent respect if you are in a physically good shape, have manners (and good grades wont hurt either, you're right in that). That also includes the opposite gender. A much smaller % will respect a person not working out, with rude manners, no social skills... Who plays a 10mb java game alone at home all day. It's never too late to change for the better. You can make personal improvements without compromising who you are. Can't say I can speak from experience for roleplaying games, but when it comes to FPS games I know lots of people who are in a very good shape and have social lives that play CoD, CSS, so on... I play FPS games with many people I know in real life. Everyone has their own forms of entertainment. One form is playing a game in the evening with your friends rather than passively staring at a TV screen on your couch. Even the older computer-illiterate people in my family frequently play online poker for fun with other friends. -
Is the life of a criminal really more valuable than the possessions of an honest person? If you're asking all of us honestly, yes, I do regard life > possessions. Don't ask questions you don't know the answer to. ;) I guess it depends on your personal set of morals. Here in the U.S. we have plenty of porch rednecks ready to shoot anyone that knows of the existence of their "proportay". Not all rednecks sit on their porches with their rifles ready to shoot all trespassers, in fact that stereotype is so over used its not funny anymore, and really how many rednecks do you know? Maybe not all southerners in the US are as backwater as parodies may set them out to be, but the point is somewhat valid.. Where else in the world, except some war-torn Somali villages, are people willing to shoot another human for material possessions worth a few hundred dollars? Not just that but as far as I know it's even legalised in some states. In any other country you'd be thrown in a jail for use of excessive force, not applauded and patted on the back.

You can get into trouble, ultimately banned, for accepting the account of another person. Thanks to IP logs, if Jagex notices you play your main account & suddenly gain access to another wealthier account, they *will* investigate you. The best play you have here is not accepting the account. You'll keep your main account from harm in this way too, despite not being that wealthy.

Generally, the people I know applied to around 5-10 unis. They will require a copy of your earlier school/college diplomas, but it's not the only criteria. First you need to know what degree you're going to pursue. In almost all cases you'll need to write an application essay explaining why you should be admitted in. If you were very talented in college and have good references, you may even get a scholarship & fully paid tuition (which can be a huge economic advantage, because some good universities charge $5000-$40,000 per year). If you apply for more specific degrees like master of arts, you will also need to provide examples of previous work you have finished. In addition, to be eligible you will usually have to obtain an ACT or SAT score prior to applying. At least where it concerns SAT's, there should be one each month in any given testing center.

Runescape Named One Of The Best Time Wasters
BlueLancer replied to Warrior_B666's topic in General Discussion
How so? If they weren't, they would just be watching T.V or eating or playing another video game. Yeah you can say people who play RS "waste the best time of their life" while you go and play Call of Duty. Same exact thing. I don't believe that hellbellz ever said that what he did wasn't a waste of time. Either way it doesn't change the fact that runescape is indeed a waste of time. Anything besides working & earning money is practically a waste of time. Hell, I don't know many people whose best years fell on the ages 11-16. Neither did mine. In most countries you can't legally drink, smoke, go to bars or nightclubs, get real jobs, drive a car, buy cruise/airline tickets, see movies rated M or AO, open cell phone plans, sign any documents or agreements without a parent's consent, change religions/names, get married, have fun in a casino.. You're practically owned by your parents as a teen. Modern life in that age these days usually consists of studying most of your time, playing sports or video games and hooking up with friends or significant others. Most of that is a 'waste of time', or if you look it from another perspective, a "part of life". If you leave out everything that's a waste of time, your life would be so boring you'd have no reason to be happy or live. (And no, I haven't played RS or other similar games for years) -
Really? The hacking problem has really gone down, it's great how Nexon actually cares unlike some companies. Well, at least I think it has...I stopped back in September, and the hacking was ridiculous then. This past weekend, I started a new account, played on the nub servers, and didn't see a single hacker. But yes, I'd say it's one of, if not the, best free FPS out there. Only downside is no European version yet. I think. Completely forgot. Edit: Oh, you live in Canada. Eh, fair warning to any Europeans interested. Hint: S5 proxy to log in & make an acc even if you're not in the US :P Isn't illegal either, and wont lag if you find a good american proxy. If you try logging in with your aussie, european, asian or south american IP... It will just give you an error. I'm not much into this game, tried it on a friend's recommendation and leveled to lv4 with some 1.9 ratio. It has a much more reliable combat system & less lag than comparable MMOFPS games like Warrock.
