  1. You traitor. I hope they implement this so you can get PKed at green dragons again.
  2. Go play the Fight Pits. End of discussion. The only difference between the wilderness you are suggesting and playing the Fight Pit game is that PKers would be able to kill people who don't enter the wilderness hoping for PvP. There is no point in having an area designed for players to kill people who enter the area with no intention of fighting another player.
  3. You bought 99 ranged, that doesn't make you any better than somebody who bought 99 cooking or fletching. First of all, i bought 90-99 range. Second, it does. Lemme show you. 90-99 Range: 30-40m 99 Fletching:500k? And yes, i factor in all that time i spent barrowing for that 30-40m. So yea, it does make me better, sorry. Not to mention theres actually a point in getting 99 ranged. Fletching has no use after a certain level and is a pointless 99 to have.
  4. I'm sorry but this is stupid. What would Jagex have to gain by banning a member if they knew they were just pulling at strings? It's not like anyone who gets banned has to pay a 50 dollar fine. By banning people with offensive names, they lose a member, lose money, and get a "bad reputation" for being "too harsh". Until I see what Jagex would have to gain by banning someone, I'm not buying this.
  5. Here's a question: we now know that all the updates like the GE were introduced so that we could prepare for this huge trade update. Do you think that the ZMI altar was introduced because Jagex knew essence running wouldn't work anymore?
  6. I don't think that would work. That would give melee an added edge over Mages. What we need is some way for Mages to not have as much melee power. The magic itself is fine.
  7. Actually, this is more important now than ever. With the focus on the new PvP systems, we should now be looking to FIX our PvP gameplay in itself, since we have all these fancy new features. Also, class distinctions play a huge role in duel tournaments that have all combat styles involved. It is quite monotonous to always see barrage + range/melee win every tournament. There should be more class distinction.
  8. The Truth about the Triangle Image copyright Jagex Ltd Introduction: The goal of a great combat system in RPG games is simple. Each class of combatants should have a set of advantages and a set of disadvantages. These "pros" and "cons" should exist in each class, so that there should be a legitimate choice that needs to be made when deciding which class you should use for PvP combat. However, in our game today, the choice has become somewhat obvious for many players: magic, melee, or most favorable these days is the mage-melee hybrid. I know, I know, many of you still love to range, and I share the love with you. The update to crossbows has brought ranging closer than ever to being a really good choice for PvP combat, but it is still not quite there for a multitude of reasons. The goal of this article is to expose the flaw in our combat triangle: neglect of offensive balance in the cross-class hybrids. Part I- Pure Classes The goal of this section is to prove that each class, fighting with its class-specific armor and class-specific weapons should cancel each other out. That is, to say, that no class should have an obvious choice for PvP, and the triangle is preserved. The Meleer: The classic warrior. I should note right now a couple of things. Firstly, the Zamorak book: the objective of this article is to demonstrate effects that span across cross-class combinations. The book gives no negative defense, and equal bonus to all offense. Therefore it is most appropriate for our experiment. Secondly, no ring: I do not have each of the rings necessary for each class, also there are debates of warrior vs berserker ring. Now that that is out of the way, lets take a look at the picture. It is clear that the warrior has Slash as the highest bonus. No brainer. What about his defenses? He is weakest to Magic attack, and strong against Ranged attack. This is how the triangle is meant to work. The Ranger: Here again is a completely expected case. Meleers win against Rangers, Rangers win vs Mages, and Mages win vs Meleers (thats in the next part). So far it seems like two parts of our triangle have been fulfilled, since our ranger has high ranged attack (of course), and has low Melee defense but high Magic defense. Next. The Mage: Here is the last part of our triangle. The Mage again, like the rest of our pure classes, has very high attack in his respective class. Lets check the defenses now. HORRIBLE ranged protection, which is completely expected since he is weak vs ranged. But his melee defense...isn't too thrilling either, about the same as our Ranger. So what happened here? Well, Magic comes with binding spells, of course! The meleer essentially cannot even HIT the Mage if he is bound or frozen, so the Mage gains a near infinite defense against melee and therefore wins. Next section. Part II- The Hybrids: In this section, our pure classes will be breaking out of their shells and using ONLY A CROSS-CLASS WEAPON. This is by far the simplest way to create a hybrid class. If you wanted to change some armor around as well, the combinations could of course become even stronger. However, looking at the simplest conditions of cross-class capability will give us the information we need, without adding an additional factor of complication by changing the armor, because some classes do not even need to change any armor to overcome cross-class boundaries! Also, in this particular investigation, I am only investigating the result of a particular class switching to combat the class they are weakest against: I will explain this more in detail as we continue, since my argument will solidify as I reveal the evidence. The Meleer (fighting with a bow): This probably looks stupid to you (as well it should). Who is this person trying to fight? If he is fighting a mage, he is definitely bound to fail. He has a poor ranged attack bonus (basically half that of our pure mage) and his magic defense bonus is still just as bad as it was before. This would give our pure meleer an edge that he didn't have before, but he still is not EFFECTIVE against Magic. It should also be noted that, when the Melee class switches his weapon to Ranged, he loses the ability to attack with any other style. Well, he could try to cast some spells, but his chance of success is embarrassingly low. The Ranger (casting magic): This guy is interesting. As you can see, he actually goes slightly positive in Magic attack. So why isn't this guy the problem with our triangle? The only thing this man can do, without switching weapons, is cast Magic (unless you want to account for the embarassingly small Melee bonus on the staff) Also, if you compare this hybrid with our next example, you will see that the Ranger who casts is completely inferior. The Mage (who can melee): Here lies the root of all of our problems. At first, it may seem OK, since his ranged defense is incredibly low, but allow me to explain. His melee attack power is IDENTICAL to that of a melee pure class. Also, this mage-melee hybrid can go back to casting spells WITHOUT the need of a staff. His Magic attack is still quite high, so putting this against the tiny Magic defense of the Meleer results in devastation. PLUS, in my experiences, Magic attack bonus does not need to be very high at all to cause havoc on melee armor. This example is not a giant problem, but lets look at what happens when you add a simple chestpiece to the above equipment: Outstanding. A warrior who is very tough against pure melee attacks, notably strong against ranged attacks, and mildly resistant even to Magic. This guy can cast quite effectively against melee, and still has what it takes to lay the smack-down on Rangers. Conclusion: (just read this if you are too lazy to read everything) Let's recap. If you fight as a pure Melee class, and a Mage comes along, the best thing to do (by only switching a weapon) is to take out a bow. However, there is a significant loss in Ranged attack when you transition from a whip to a bow. AND you lose the ability to fight with Melee if a Ranger were to come along immediately after: you'd need to switch weapons. Overall, by trying to combat the class that you are weak to, you lose no defenses, but cannot damage the Mage as well as a Ranger could. If you fight pure Ranged, and a Melee class comes along, you can try switching to Magic. You will be able to get some spells off, but again you ultimately do not have as much power vs him as a Mage would. Again, Rangers can no longer Range when they take out a staff, which is necessary to overcome the negative Magic bonus. Overall, by switching to Magic when you are a Ranger, you lose no defenses, but cannot damage the Meleer as well as a Mage could. If you fight pure Magic, and a Ranger comes along, taking out a whip and ONLY A WHIP will allow you to deal identical damage to the Ranger that a Melee class could deal to the Ranger. Again no defenses are gained or lost, but you gain the ability to deal damage to YOUR enemy class that is identical to the damage that would be dealt by them to THEIR enemy class. You also retain a significant Magic attack bonus, AND you do not need to change weapons in order to return to your "original" class attack So what is to be done about this? Not sure. Is it a problem? Yes There is no triangle in the normal sense of the word. The clear choice in Runescape is to be a Mage, because as I have proven, it is the easiest class to overcome the class disadvantages in (they also have the unbalanced advantage of not requiring a weapon in order to attack). Could this be good for the game? OF COURSE. There is no need to have a completely balanced triangle. The game is, of course, called RUNEscape, so maybe it is fitting that Magic is the best style to use in combat. However, if Jagex wants the triangle to be balanced, it definitely isn't at this time. If players THINK they are playing a game where each of the three classes is an equally good choice to pick, then they are wrong and have been mislead. Solutions? Maybe we need robes to have a negative Melee bonus. Maybe the Melee armor should come with Melee attack bonuses and not have it completely centralized in the weapon. I don't particularly know what should be done, if anything. I didn't make the game, I just criticize it.
  9. What does a d-hide body alch for? 4680. If nat prices are a steady 280 each, then this failsafe stops players for buying less than the high-alching price and making a profit off the stupidity of others. Well, how wonderful it is to have Almighty Jagex out there making sure that I don't do anything out of "stupidity". Because gee, I must be an idiot if I want to say, sell my green dhide bodies for 4380. And how nice it is of Almighty Jagex to not let me "stupidly" sell my iron knives for less than 31 each -- which means that I haven't been able to sell them on the GE for two solid weeks. And thank goodness that Almighty Jagex doesn't let me offer more than 85 gold pieces for raw chompies, because only an idiot would pay more than that much. Maybe YOU'RE an idiot if you don't realize that the forums still exist for buying and selling of items. They can't just let merchants rake in the cash at the GE. The GE doesn't involve any time commitment to make money. They have to do something so that people can't just hold a really low offer in the GE at all times, and rake in the cash with no effort over a long time period. In case you haven't realized, this IS a game that is meant to be played for its content, not some type of online buying and selling exercise. Jagex wants their game to be played, so they have to do something to discourage players from doing nothing other than buying low and selling higher. Chompies shouldn't even be tradeable in my opinion; that would be like making CW armor tradeable. There is more to this game than trying to just achieve financial gain, and if I were Jagex I would try to give players a reason to actually use old features like the bird hunting game, instead of encouraging them to just buy the rewards of the game (aside from the stupid hats) without the player ever having to set foot in the area.
  10. Am I the only one who is scared of this update? Summoning monsters to attack your enemies...I wonder how many millions will be lost due to glitches with this skill.
  11. Sorry but I really have to say that nobody will listen to your petition in its current state, no matter how many names you gather. When making a formal petition, you actually have to organize an argument and present your case in a formal manner. You can't simply say "We should do this!" You basically have to write a series of arguments that explain why it would be a good idea to change the current system. If Jagex gets a "petition" that says "The price caps are bad and stuff, remove them" they won't listen to it no matter if you have 500 signatures or 5 million signatures.
  12. You're all idiots. This is the first day of the GE. They dont know what exactly is going to be a good idea, because they cannot see the future. It is easy to say now what was stupid to do...but maybe they saw some good reasons to do it? Also the only thing that is different is that sudden changes wont be able to happen. For instance, if a new monster started dropping dragon chains fairly frequently, chains would drop like mad. Jagex says that if a ton of trades are in the bottom 5%, then the "Average" price will move down. They didn't say it will happen within the course of 12 hours or however long you monitored it before writing this article...it could take a few days or maybe a week for the price to come down. Give it some time you freaking numbskulls. Atleast 24 hours...jesus.
  13. This new system is just amazing. It gives well-rounded players the edge over the "pure" players, since you will never know what type of tournament is coming up next. Also, by randomizing the rules, it makes the tournament PvP more about skill and overall familiarity with the game...instead of just clicking on somebody and having a randomization of who wins, with the duel ending in a matter of seconds since a lot of the staking used to be done with no armor. While I do not agree with how sudden and severe the change was (I mean come on, from unlimited staking down to 3k every 15mins? thats REALLY harsh) I do think that this change is for the better. However, this IS a game-changing update, and I think that Jagex laid it on us a bit too suddenly.
  14. Yeah I am pretty sure that never happened
  15. Well I got to compete in one tournament, but now its broken again.
  16. This is so stupid. It is a shame that people are stupid enough to kill themselves over being mistreated. I say suck it up. I've had to come face to face with the most terrible people in the world (aka 4chan, somethingawful, etc etc) and I have never once thought of harming myself because of something they said. Not even people in real life can have that effect on me. If people are so emotionally unstable that they kill themselves over "harmful" words, then I say good riddance. Natural selection in motion. I don't harass people online because I have nothing to prove. Achieving a victory online has no more satisfaction than that of picking a booger out of your nose.
  17. Actually, the GE will probably just make merchanting even more prevelant. Since nearly everyone will go there to buy things, a merchant will have complete control over the market if he can, for instance, but ALL of the maple logs that are for sale at X gp each, and then put them up for sale again at X+10 gp each. Previously, Runescape's items were distributed over the official forums, world 2, and fan site forums. Now its likely that everyone will flock to the GE if turns out to be good. The only reason I say this is because it happens in some other games all the time. However, Jagex says that the GE will be across ALL worlds. Theres going to be a TON of items on there, and thus this logic won't carry through from other games.
  18. The game should be challenging on a gameplay level. Monsters should be hard to kill, etc. The fact that the game was challenging on basic playability shows design flaws. Why should it be hard to get ahold of essential skill items like elemental runes or water filled vials? Why should it be a challenge to track down a seller of a particular item at a particular time? That just makes the entire gameplay experience frustrating and more difficult to get to the actual things that matter in the GAME, like killing monsters.
  19. I went there the other day. Saw some guy complaining that the abyss monsters shouldn't be aggressive because he went there to alch and lost 50,000 dragon chains. Never going back.
  20. Who in their right mind is going to assist with a skill like mining? So you have a noob friend with like 50 mining...then you assist him so he gets your mining level...but you still have to stand there the whole time...why not just mine the ores yourself and give them to him? That really makes no sense. I think this update will seldom be used for anything except crafting. I also think there should be an option that lets you trade something in return for the assistance. But then, the whole system would have to be changed since the assister can just close the window :-s Maybe it should just be for one use of the skill? Like...you offer 10k to get assissted so that you can craft a fury. Then both players accept. Then as soon as you craft the fury, the 10k goes to the other person and you stop having assisstance.
  21. Can anyone explain why you can't plant trees with assistance? Everyone has said that saplings are untradeable but why can't the person just plant the seed in the pot and then water it?
  22. I have full confidence in Jagex's banning system. Too many of these "OMG I just HAPPENED to be doing this and this and my FRIEND stole the account" stories come up. I'm betting he's guilty.
  23. Yeah what a "great" character  Oh dear, you lost a character whose only good stats were the easiest to train. I doubt you even enjoyed training those stats. Whats the point?
  24. There are a lot of idiots who think that RuneHQ, Tip.it, Zybez, are official sites that are affiliated with Jagex. (just like some idiots think that Official Xbox Magazine actually makes the games they talk about) The chance of this happening is probably even greater if they see people talk about the sites ingame. Jagex doesn't want this for many reasons, including liability and security.
