  1. I don't know what the inspirational part was of the story: to have two people who didn't care about their accounts. How is that inspirational?
  2. You can also use the cannon to assist you in your kills. For that you don't need to be in a multi-zone. Another technique you can use in many cases is to stand in a safespot. The cannon will attack in that case multiple targets. This works for instance nicely with black demons in taverly dungeon.
  3. Dislike of tasks can grow over time so I would suggest to not block anything in the beginning. Experience all tasks. Block those that really start to annoy you. There is also an indirect manner of blocking: don't do quests. I had a really good thing going till i hit 95 slayer or so, because then i started doing quests for TDs. I then actually started to get awful tasks. I used to have a limited number of possible tasks which meant I was doing abyssal demons etc really frequently. And after doing most of the quests the list of possible tasks was just a lot longer. Which meant more variation, and also less frequently the tasks that I actually enjoyed. Similar to an earlier poster I have 99 slayer so I actually have blocked tasks that some people swear by, like dagonoths and kalphites. I have no interest in cannoning any more. I actually don't have a cannon any more. But black demons: Great task! You can melee them, range them, mage them, cannon them. Just takes a while to do 200+ of them when you don't have a cannon. Don't block that! But then again, I am biased because I actually enjoy doing them. Maybe it is because I don't feel the need to finish the entire task in one go. They are quite easily reached after all.
  4. For me teleing to moonclan was faster than the ZMI banker or just as fast. ZMI banker was just more annoying. But I think this might be a personal irrational preference.
  5. +1 I did ZMI from 63 to 65 because I don't like RC very much. It's almost tolerable although you can't expect a big profit.
  6. Prayer flashing does drain, especially when you are inefficient at it like me.
  7. I have steel dragons, dagganoths and kalphites blocked. You might wonder why dags and kalphites? Good cannon experience! But I already have 99 slayer and range. Why would I cannon tasks?

I was blitzing hell hounds in kuradal dungeon yesterday as a task. You can all calculate the profit I made I think. A few people stopped and questioned me a bit. I guess you don't see people wasting money pointlessly that often in that dungeon. The task went pretty fast though. I had fun.
  9. I guess most "efficient players" who buy skills are dependent on the existence of bots. I have gotten most of my raw income from slayer, MTK, farming herbs, and daily shop runs. I have purchased skills such as prayer (passed the 45 level) and herblore (past the 70 level). My first 70 level was mining and it gotten me around 60 smithing as well. But for instance mage I never really trained. I tried to, and always got bored with it in less than an hour. I actually gotten past 80 by just teleporting for 5 years and high alching drops during slayer tasks. And recently I just started maging during slayer tasks and during testing out which monsters could be maged without much cost. Highly inefficient though, because you lose money like crazy maging slayer. I have tried some of the efficient ways of playing, but I am coming more and more to the conclusion that they do not give me much fun. In that sense I am still old school. I fondly remember training slayer to level 80 without the benefit of guthans or summoning. Just food and around 75 slayer I trained to gain the ability to do bones to peaches. No potting, no praying. That's habit that was adopted by the community on a massive scale only much later on. And then I finally got my guthans and I almost got efficient. Except that I wasn't. Still picking up all coins. Still alching all steel battleaxes etc. Still not using prayer except for protection prayers. Started to pot because I finally leveled my herblore quite high (old day standards) with slayer (herb drops and farming) I got my 99 slayer without all that piety cabbage. I sometimes flashed piety when i could bother. That was usually only at iron dragons or something similar with a high defense. Never had it on full time. I tanked most tasks that most others just protection prayers on, just because I am old school and didn't see the point in wasting prayer pots. I actually never purchased a single prayer pot in my runescape existence. All the p pots I have used came from ranarr herb drops which I turned into p pots myself. I only started to buy herb pots when I went for the race for extreme pots. When i joined the fashionable thing to do. In conclusion I have not been self sufficient in my runescape career, but probably more than most. And the main reason is that I never spend much time on high income activities such as tormented demons, gwd, etc. I have done them, but not as a main activity or just to try them out.
  10. Neither could I in the old days. Then you need an SGS or an EE. Or go for safe and use a pony.

18 minute test aberrant specters with same inferior gear and wind surge. roughly 80k exp per hour. And instead of 200k gp profit, a 200k gp loss per hour. Maybe aberrant specters are mage resistant but I was just testing whether you can mage them for free. I guess you can, but probably not with the highest level of spells. With wave you have profit, with surge not. Must say though that I didn't get any special drops in this short unsatisfactory tests. Estimates of profit are probably on the low side. I also started slayering with mage, but the problem is that I am already 99 slayer. There isn't really a strong need for me to stick to slayer tasks. I just wonder what would be nice to mage in combat and not have a loss. So far it seems it is possible with aberrant specters but a medium experience and a tiny profit of 200k per hour. More testing is needed. I will try some other monsters.

That's an interesting question. I did some rough and quick testing and got in a very preliminary test some decent results at aberrant specters. The experience rate wasn't terribly great - roughly 60k exp per hour using the very modest fire wave (lvl 75) and very crappy outfit. Slayer helmet, d'hai top/bottom, zammy prayer book, mystic boots, staff of light, fury. No ring. ( I never do mage so I don't have any specialized equipment - I actually had to buy a staff of light and even mystic boots just for this test.) There was even a profit of roughly 200k per hour. This was all based on a 13 minute test. I also used a wolpertinger for raising magic and let it attack as well. I will try a surge spell later on. Should give more experience but would it still be profitable? Anyhoo. I sure found it more enjoyable to click once in a while on a aberrant specter than constantly clicking on an item in your inventory. Yesterday I also maged most of my black demon task but it was a bit costly. Decent experience though. Even with my crappy outfit.
  13. I usually re-pot at 110.
  14. I always used to tank dark beasts in verac top and bottom and a bunyip. This was in the old days before soul split. Tanking goes well most of the time. Sometimes they hit hard a few times in a row. You simply put on protect from melee. Let the bunyip/SGS heal you. Turn off protection prayer. Nowadays I would use soulsplit. Unicorn can heal you without the need of using prayer sometimes, but it runs up the costs. I did it the other way because it wouldn't cost anything, except the bunyip (with an SGS). Take two prayer pots for backup/soul split and you are probably good to go with just a bunyip. And naturally I potted up att, str AND defense.
  15. I went from around 160 to 275 QP in about two weeks, so I could do tormented demons. it was a bit of a hell and at the same time I kind of liked it. I got a bit over my aversion to do quests. Although I don't do all new quests that are released nowadays I actually do some. And without a guide.
  16. You can always just wait till you have some urge to spend money on something you think you need. And in the meanwhile just continue doing what you find enjoyable, since I assume that is what you have been doing.
  17. I totally agree with this point. I actually play runescape because it is a browser-based game. That is because I play on my work laptop when I am home. That is allowed. What is not allowed is that I install programs myself on the computer. I actually don't have the rights to do so. And this work computer isn't build for resource hogging games of course. A modest graphics card and semi-outdated CPU. And when I don't play on this computer I play on my own computer. And the ability to switch between computers without effort is just great. Imagine having a client installed on several computers who all need to be updated regularly with massive patches. I couldn't even switch between computers within a time span of one minute like I do currently. The browser-based aspect is personally for me one of the main selling points of runescape. I probably wouldn't play it if it was a client-based game.
  18. If your bunyip overheals you don't need a water supply.
  19. I'm the ex-slayer. I have reached 99 slayer and just slay occasionally for fun. I unblocked the tasks that used to be blocked (wyverns) and blocked monsters that a normal slayer wouldn't dare to block such as daggonoths. But I don't need cannon experience any more (99 slayer and 99 range) so why would I? I don't cannon anything anymore. I just do some tasks once in a while for nostalgic purposes. I frown upon these efficiency freaks around me. Things used to be better in the old days of course. Real men did slayer.
  20. what about plank make or stringing. Plank make is 90 exp as well.
  21. I went to 80 slayer without guthans/summoning or a whip. Couldn't afford the 12 million for guthans or whatever it was at that time. Summoning didn't exist. I spend a lot of time getting bones 2 peaches so I could at least heal on site for some tasks. There weren't tablets yet for that. I had fun though. It was nice to figure out how to accomplish tasks with my meager resources.
  22. I remember dying during the endfight at MM. Because I tried melee first. I was at that point in time at ardougne and a high level player i never met before gave me some sharks for the endfight. I had never even had any sharks before. I guess he wanted to help me after hearing I died the first time. The second time I ranged him of course. And there were no gravestones back then I think. When you died you died. And other people picked up your stuff or it was lost if you couldn't get back in time. The quest that really made me lose my mind was underground pass. I did it with quite a low agility level and it just isn't that nice to do without the help of guides, with very low essential skills. And as was said before in this thread, 43 prayer used to be quite something. Also a combat level of 100 or even 90 was already great. I did MM to get my hands on the best weapon in town for a noob like me: a D scimmie. I didn't get a whip till much much later.

Maybe they are using dueling ring (1) for junk.
  24. Saw a lower combat level at the black demons today. It took him twice as long to do a single black demon as me. I didn't use any prayer except for soul split. I did use extremes. Maybe we are all being overtly optimistic about how fast a task should go at a lower level.
  25. I like slayer because it used to be a mission impossible. That is to ever reach 99 slayer. However, changes to the skill actually led to reaching 99 slayer after starting training it when in came out in january 2005. It actually did take me 5 years to reach 99 slayer. Slayer gave me something to do that could be broken down in short sessions. I don't always play for very long. And it helped me increase my other stats. It gave me a steady income. It gave me knowledge of the game. I found it fun to level slayer. But eventually I reached 99 slayer this year and I don't do it much any more. I never even gotten a junglewyrm task yet. I'm not so fond of slayer any more because it seems to have turned into one of those efficiency skills. If you are not aiming at maximum efficiency you are a noob. But this is also true for all other skills nowadays. And maybe slayer has gotten a little bit too easy. It kind of lost its appeal because of that.
