  1. deaths or bloods for profit BY FAR. at higher levels, the amounts of extra deaths you get "doubling" means deaths are more profitable than double nats even.
  2. all the quizzes have been fact tests, rather than tests of understanding. Questions of understanding are the ones people ask of you in the game, answering those would serve an educational value. facts like they've asked about can be found in the knowledge base and fansites. questions like: how does the speed of mining for the inferno adze and rune pickaxe compare? what is the most profitable mining per hour in f2p for someone with 70 mining? what is the closest teleport /transport feature to green dragons? these questions would teach players understanding they can actually use in the game, not passive knowlege. i've been very unimpressed with this use of the poll system.
  3. sgs will also lower brew /pray pot count, if you're not using a chaotic maul
  4. well, jagex didn't ban skiller_703 for account-sharing with his brother and getting 99 dungeoneering first (although they awarded a free trip to runefest for the #2 to reach 99, not the number 1). in that light, why would regular players admit to account sharing? it doesn't pay to admit.
  5. You say you train dungeoneering while having fun. Is there any reason i cant train combat while having fun? I have fun in soul wars, i can train combat via soul wars. Thats "fun" to me. I can train combat with stealing creation, thats "fun" to me. And if i dont like either of those, i can train it how i want, be it through PC, slayer, FOG, etc. By comparison dungeoneering only has one way to train it, and thats with a minigame that personally, i don't even like. Its like making it so you can only train magic by playing FOG, SW, or another minigame, and then pulling the fun card out of your ass and hailing it as the best skill since dungeoneering because your forced to train it with a "fun" minigame!!! And while sure, FOG is quite a fun game, everyone would know the skill was so much better when you could train how you wanted to train. Ah. i think you may have missed the main argument in my post: skills aren't meant to be "trained" they are meant to level while you enjoy every second of playing runescape. Grinding is a sign that gameplay is bad because it shows that you're doing an activity for the sake of exp, NOT because the activity itself is entertaining. you are NOT supposed to "train" combat or slayer or ranged or whatever you're supposed to enjoy the activities and gain exp and levels in turn. Levels in any game are there to enhance gameplay; as you become more proficient in an activity you can do it faster, or access more complicated activities. playing for levels, ranks, highscores, goals doesn't show good gameplay. Those things can only ever manifest themselves as self-realization being fulfilling, even if you let an avatar empathetically realize itself. when you use your skills in good gameplay you are fighting because fighting is fun, you just happen to gain exp etc. to let you fight in new ways down the line. Therefore: if you don't enjoy dungeoneering don't play the "minigame". If you don't enjoy merchanting, don't do it. Dungeoneering isn't a skill meant to be "trained" it's a skill where your previous training in different skills is supposed to come together so you have fun. "playing the fun card?" You outline how combat shows versatility, therefore being more enjoyable to many people. you examine dungeoneering simply as a "minigame". in your terms: you played the "minigame card". you ignored all the different options you can choose while dungeoneering that minigames don't provide: 3 sizes, 1-5 players, going with friends or making new friends, going with people your combat significantly higher combat or significantly lower combat, ranging, meleeing, maging, "skilling", "gathering" , running keys, hunting for drops, basing items / being a support player, rushing dungeons as fast as possible, killing everything, opening spare doors, trying to find the boss as fast as possible to kill it, complexity 1-6 depending on what puzzels you want, self-imposed rules such as "you can only use what you can pick up", diy, team diy where you exchange goods, sharing or every man for himself, integrating player creativity (most other skills force you to play the content a certain way) etc. etc. etc.... and that's ignoring internal variation in different maps (think of pyramid plunder, clan wars, castle wars, mobilising armies), different monsters, different puzzles and so forth. now if you don't enjoy any of those, another strength of dungeoneering as a skill is that you can completely ignore it without being penalized for it (like summoning, slayer most grindeable skills. you NEED combat for quests and other activities, you require magic for transportation, you can't go without making thousands of useless chairs you just destroy if all you want to do is design a cool, personal dungeon to show off in your house. based on their merit as varied, fun activities that a large proportion of the community will enjoy, skill integration, development of runescape as a game, playability, accessability without inane amounts of grinding, gameplay time dungeoneering excels compared to all the other skills. now if quests were a "skill" that would obviously rank ahead (MMORPG = roleplaying game after all), but like dungeoneering quests aren't a minigame although it's minigame-esque: try giga-game, or "able-to-sell-as-its-own-game game"
  6. Dungeoneering is pretty much a glorified minigame. Magic, and combat in general, can be used in other minigames like SC, Clan wars, Castle wars, PVP, etc. And while the actual training of the skill is generally more grindy than dungeoneering, i for one think its much more fun for the skill, not the training of the skill. 5 Minigames > 1 Minigame :shades: good skills are skills where you don't do the activity for the exp, you play for fun by your definition of minigame: grinding is content i rate less playable than a minigame in your gameplay terms no extra functionality means the gameplay impact is minimal in today's runescape where people pay for exp for the sake of exp, not to produce equipment or suplies or perform activities within the game i do not consider quest requirements because the quests provide their own content, not the requirements melee skills: lot of minigames, bosshunting, playable content etc. range: sidekick of melee mage: sidekick of melee, transportation, some extra skill functionality slayer: task minigame for combats prayer: grinding, extra combat functionality herblore: grinding, extra combat functionality, extra skill access summoning: grinding, extra combat functionality, quicker skill grinding construction: grinding, some extra functionality at lower levels grinding, no extra functionality: agility, runecrafting, thieving, fletching, hunter, mining, fishing, crafting, smithing, cooking, firemaking, woodcutting, farming this examination leads to some very obvious conclusions: 1. runescape consists of a lot of menial grinding. 2. it serves no purpose training 13 of the skills in the game in terms of gameplay 3. few skills have the gameplay for you to play the "grinding content" if there were no levels / ranks /highscores for them. 4. runescape has become exceedingly combat based. with high combat, range, mage, summoning and herblore you reach endgame because you can perform such a huge proportion of gamplay, without really touching many of the other skills. conclusions: a) on paper runescape is a very boring game because a huge amount of time is spent grinding for no apparent reason other than levels / ranks / highscores b) a huge proportion of the game is endgame, if you train combat first, and skills later And in this light, dungeoneering is not a minigame ( stealing creations) but a Gigantic part of eerily lacking runscapian endgame. endgame in turn brings more and more menial skills into play (for bosses, quests, being best at minigames, requirements of all sorts and dungeoneering). dungeoneering is the fun, endgame skill where you use your skills to play a mini-version of runescape however you like, lasting from 2 minutes (rush c1ing) to 2 hours (doing everything in a dungeon, leisurely), alone or with friends, with strangers or clans. along with other activities you find inherently fun for their own sake and quests, dungeoneering is one of jagex' main "point of the game" activities they intend you play for fun in your own spare time. if you don't enjoy dung, don't do it. jagex intend it to be one of the major "fun" things in the game that is how the skill must be judged: not as ways to and end, but as an end.
  7. dungeoneering is by far the best and most advanced skill in a gaming perspective. it is the only skill that requires skill and strategy more than it requires grinding (here personified by gaining abilities due only to increases in level in all other skills). I like dungeoneering because i enjoy other games where grinding and levels doesn't exist, everyone is on an equal footing, the only experience-advantage you have from playing the game previously manifests itself inside your head. this annoys a lot of runescapians to no end, because they themselves limit their prowess: if you're slow at keying in dung you and your connection are to blame, not your levels. it is therefore there was such a massive barrage of complaints with strykewyrms requiring a firecape. it is therefore so many players hate team activities and pking. It's though when the answer to the question "why are you so slow" is that you simply aren't any better at runescape just as you aren't any better at playing the piano. and therein lies almost all the criticism of dungeoneering as a skill in its current form. objectively, dungeoneering is quite simply extraordinary in its functionality, random nature, variation in functional teamwork and vast array of efficient strategies within certain boundries. i don't think you can provide a serious (read: academic) argument for any other skill, only the subjective "more players like this skill instead"
  8. bystanders comment: my parents are doctors. they are legally advised NOT to help people who need immediate medical aid in the US because of legal / lawsuit issues. If you perform CPR on someone and break a rib, you get sued for saving their life. if you perform the Heimlich, and they get neck problems it's the same deal. If you're a bystander and you interfere in the situation, you may save the shoplifter's life, but ruin your own. Now who's prepared to be so selfless? can we expect people to be so selfless? Now what if litigation laws were changed... lives could be saved, be those the lives of shoplifters or of an unfortunate child getting something stuck in their throat, or someone having a heart attack. when the system penalizes helping, morals go out the window, as happened in this case.
  9. if you could, i would have gotten a phat. everything else is gonna crash hard.
  10. I dg with pro teams. that means a large floor should NEVER take more than 36-7 mins. On average they take less than 30 mins. I would never kick anyone. I just add them to my increasingly long blacklist of people i don't dung with. 0 = added to blacklist 1. Fishing 0, alching arrows and buying is faster 2. Cooking food only when VERY neccessary (i.e. keyer tells you to) 2 3. Farming mushrooms 0. why? just why? 4. Crafting ranged/mage armor 5 (Depends on what your boss is) 5. Farming herbs 5. looting herbs yes please, farming when needed yes please, farming in anticipation cause no gd's / stuff to do yes please. 6. Mixing melee/defence potions 3. no defence pots. maybe a melee pot for boss, depending on what boss it is 7. High alching 10 you can high alch mid-combat, there's no reason not to high alch, unless the team already has a TOnnn of cash. 8. Mining Ores 3. ores for altar? yes, otherwise strict no. 9. Smelting ores / Smithing armor 0. don't do it. 10. Thieving chests 10, better than alching as less clicking is required 11. Crafting combat/Non combat runes 7 (for gt's and cures, combats only for bosses when it's needed (riftsplitter) and when excessive amounts of knights are to be anticipated) 12. Cutting trees 7 only t10 logs. you need them to cook food (from your cash) if someone needs to prep for boss (which SHOULD be rare), you may need bows or staves, 3-4 logs never hurt. 13. building altar at base: 10. this is what the fist cash is used for 14. looting cash piles from monster drops. have a designated altar person doing this, for your altar, or seeds for herbs if you hit skill doors when you don't have herbs. 80+ dung reqs, w117? forget it. key yourself or have someone you know are good at keying key for you. if possible always have 3 people you know are good at dunging, then the other two don't really matter much
  11. "crashing" is a term loaded with stigma used by those who don't like to compete for resources. Any healthy market (economy) favors he who helps himself. if you can't compete / don't want to compete / don't enjoy competition, you are very welcome to participate in activities where you don't need to compete. If you still choose to participate in activities of which competition are an integral component for your sake, and others' : please don't forget that no one likes a complainer :)
  12. so far it doesn't really matter much. if the prestige gains follow the same formulas as the current 35 floors, the exp rate will double sometime this month with the release up to floor 47. Then the hours will start counting, up till now won't matter in the grand sceme of things, especially if there are 60 floors like many believe. The exp gains then would be more than 4 times the current rate per hour.
  13. pre-1347 with the black death pandemic. pretty much anything before that era would be interesting because historical records are so scarce: no-one really knows what life was like before then: educated, intelligent, historical assumptions are predominant, little is really known. being born in the 1770s living through Napoleonic wars, scientific and cultural revolutions (what time do the modern classics come from?) and on through an age of change would be very interesting with our contemporary eyes. But the very recent past (1900s+) is also very interesting because of the economic, social, demographic and technological breakthroughs at a faster rate than ever before. WE are the only generations to have leisure time for all, freedoms to do what we want etc. The future of ever more complicated society technology and (hopefully) ethics is also "history" that increasingly increases in our levels of world understanding and development. A time comes when the technological and "real" values need to coalesce and become intertwined. Robotics / computers, ethics, sustainability, population on one hand; family, friends, entertainment, purpose, self-realization on the other hand. that time will be incredibly interesting to look back on (we won't be able to see this entanglement as it happens). Personally, i think this is when the human race starts to realize its true potential, ground zero if you will.
  14. the real challenge of dungeoneering is continually finding good teams. by good teams i mean averaging large floors under 30 mins. Therefore, as a skill, it is at least the most demanding in terms of organization: you need a clan to be able to train effectively. w 117 just doesn't cut it. for the actual skill: keying demands clicking skills, the other roles need to come together to form an effective team having good communication. I'd say that makes for great fun, and a skill that's a challange not because of grinding, but because it takes a lot of time, or structured, organized playing habits. why do i dung? because i can push myself to be better every single floor, and i limit how fast i can dung, not game ticks or delays between alchs or otherwise.
  15. i dung quite a bit. it used to be split before the new rings: spear or 2h. now all the top dgers use the 2h. there's no question it is better than everything else.
  16. not direct injury, rather injury through lack of dampening, whatever terrain you run on. humans were built to run barefoot, but we weren't built to live to 40+ so running without real shoes causes ankle, knee and hip injuries that can be avoided, and should be avoided by the use of shoes, and avoiding to run on terrain like sand (which kills joints).
  17. 2006 final was headbutt to the chest 2010 final was kick to the chest 2014 final: taking predictions on other forms of chest injury (diving header to chest, punch to chest, stepping on chest, other options?)
  18. don't over-think when killing them: you take no damage if you stand by a wall, away from their melee and pray. With good gear you can hit 1000+ on them, you'll use very few spells per kill, 1k casts and extra blood /death drops have ensured i've never had to bank on a task. try them once, and adapt inventory afterwards, everyone has particularities at the end of the day.
  19. soloing godwars is another option where you stand to gain a lot of effigies that hasn't been mentioned yet, as are obviously also dagganoth kings (2.5 bridding). These are already good moneymakers, so i'd use the effigies in skills i dislike leveling, rather than expensive skills. Those can be trained with the money gained.
  20. I gotta say i loved the tripple-dive penalty situation. 3 players wanting penalties for 3 different clean tackles, 3 nice spanish dives. The Dutch have been unclean too though: i don't find any team deserving of the title of world champions as this match has been played at least. It's amazing that no team has scored yet, soooooo many opportunities. again: yesterday's match should have been the final, this is definitely a worse game with teams that play "worse" football in terms of entertainment, technique, teamwork and finesse.
  21. sorry, did you even read the article? the only issue contested is the origin of civilization, which has nothing in particular to do with evolution per say. It has to do with the origin of settlement. I was rambling, but I still forgive you. you can ramble all you like, as long as it's factually correct :ohnoes: :ohnoes: :ohnoes: :ohnoes:
  22. sorry, did you even read the article? the only issue contested is the origin of civilization, which has nothing in particular to do with evolution per say. It has to do with the origin of settlement. Now, even with ruins in Turkey, remains of agriculture that are 11000 years old at least exist on most continents. It's preposterous to argue that all civilization and this agriculture emanated from Turkey 500 years earlier, and crossed to all continents that quickly. It did take 30 000 years from the spread from Africa tlil Asia, Europe and Australia, how could civilization (through religion as is claimed) move 600 times faster? No, this seems like typical populist science to me, where the outcomes of minor research are exaggerated so far out of proportions that "everything changes" Darwin was right. Factual evolution through natural selection has occured, has been documented to occur and is occuring today. Humans are not exempt, a vivid example of that is HIV resistance in surviving South African prostitutes, the definition of natural selection by phenotype.
  23. i only run for other sports :P running in and for itself is as boring as biking or driving...
  24. Good job being totally ignorant of current events Or not caring about a BS sport. I mean I hate to break it to you but very few people care about soccer here in America. And you may someday realize that "America" isn't the majority of the world: america is a tiny fraction of world population. Along with that profound newly gained insight, you may also discover that the football world cup is the largest sporting event besides the summer olympics, baseball is a tiny sport (smaller than cricket by most reckonings), american football rugby and aussie rules should standardize their own rules to become a world sport, and most importantly: that global culture and international interests are much more important than the ethnocentric, exportative and exploitative american views that make up foreign policy. By then you will have realized that your american cultural bubble is bliss in its overbrearing ignorance. tl;dr: the internet isn't america, get off your high horse. It's also sad that the easter-egg features of runescape are always removed afterwards: no klenodiums, content wasted once removed.
