The Tooth Incident!
For me the word moderation has always meant discrection. Take a look at say the tip.it times article discussions, very few are more than I liked/dislike them, if you want to be super strict, thats nothing more than pages of +1 / -1. Kind of bland. As far as off topic, whats purposeful? It's all perspective. I am not bashing any of these threads, I think they *All* fit into off topic and are quality threads, merely using them to illustrate a point. " NFL Super Bowl-Post who you think will make it and or win.. " It's just sports, It doesn't impact our lives and is nothing more than entertainment - Yet it is something people like to discuss. This thread provides entertainment as well "Funniest teachers and subs " I don't see groundbreaking discussion and see lots of humor - Isnt it sort of meaningless? "Do you sit strangely? " Who cares -- really? "What's your boss like? " - My boss is awesome, but why do I need to tell you, what purpose does that serve? "The Offical TIF American Elections thread " Who cares - Because both candidates suck. And i'm sure some people honestly feel "Breastfeeding" - It doesnt have any pictures what good is that? However those topics are popular and do serve a purpose (And NO, no pictures in the breastfeeding thread :P ) Some other things I wanted to say but alas have problems multi-quoting on my cell. I named no names, I never said you did, not too sure why you felt the urge to rectify yourself. Let it be known I seldom speak to mcneilp, I do what I do because I feel it's right. I go by the adage of "What is right is not always popular, what is popular is not always right". I don't feel it's right to remove his post. Mainly because that rule wasn't enforced nor did anyone bother to report other replies in this thread. As for sucking up? I mean how anal are we going to get about the pointless reply thread - Pretty sure I could delete half of the posts in this forum - or at least a big chunk of blogscape ;) ~Das

The Tooth Incident!
I didnt even know this thread existed until it was locked. as i've said before, I dont really venture to off topic much but the thread was brought to my attention. So i gave it a look and generally spent a few hours looking over the forum and was pleased with the level of discussion i saw. myself I like humor, granted this may not be funny to all, but off topic humor works for some as much as breastfeeding does for some. it a careful balance. Right now off the top of my head, I cant even name the topic starter, i assume it a mod since people say thats why the thread is around, but i can say, i dont *care* who locked a thread. personally I may going into my personal agenda but i always thought locking duplicating topics was overly harsh and albiet stupid, who cares if we have two topics on favorite kind of dogs, one will die, one will rise, naturual selection is my favorite method of moderation/adminstration. if anyone feels a legitimate funny/serious thread was locked because of a person not being known, pm me the title and i will review it and either unlock it or tell you why it not unlocked. as for pulling rank - I dont really tend to flaunt mine and i consider myself a user first, moderator second, admin third. as a user, i was annoyed this thread was locked and felt it was un-needed, as a moderator, I understood it could go both ways, as an admin after serious discusion and forethought - i chose to unlock it. Lion did nothing wrong in locking the thread and my unlocking was not meant or designed to make people see or feel otherwise, he does a fine job and this thread displays that to me. I would like to see off topic achieve a natural state of enjoyment at all, i've seen it on other messageboards that are not related to runescape and think off topic has room for humor, serious buisness and anything under the sun that doesnt apply to the game of runescape. Dont get me wrong I dont want to see this degrade into a /b/, which I felt it was heading down that path long before this thread was made, and I dont want to see this evolve into a serious debate club either. I am looking for an unquantifable balance of humor and serious buisness, and I think we all will know when we hit it. ~Das Edit: Forgive the spelling, Posting via a cell phone kind of sucks because my fingers are bigger than the keys.

The Tooth Incident!
I've put heavy thought and consideration into this following post. As for as this threads content it is silly yes, but people had fun, I looked at the first page and saw TONS of serious topics vs fun, we never locked the drawball topic , Aspies on Tip.it, prank calls and other harmful and humorous threads. Overall I see lots of good mature threads and some for fun, so I dont see the need and have never *understood* the need to spam "spam omgz" on a topic. As far as elitism or cliques, Tip.it has had cliques since 01, I should know I was a part of them way back then for those who were around, not so much now, it's ironic some who mentioned cliques at one point as a user I felt were in one themselves. Off topic has never been perfect, I remember vaguely it was bashed in 01-03 for being too "Fun" and later on for being strict, finding the perfect groove is without a doubt challenging. Although I wont admit I read off topic, I was always more of a general man myself, I think the current topics have improved from what they were in recent memory. 144 pages on is god real, 10+ on breastfeeding, sex and the gaza strip, homosexuality and thats just on the first page. There was a time I remember when most of those topics were disallowed - why being irrelevant as depending on the era the blame either lies within the staff or the users maturity, But i'm not so sure how topics can be more mature or serious or even discussion worthy. I'll admit, I'm suprised the breastfeeding thread has went on as long as it has. Next up on my mind is favoritism. It doesnt happen. I'll tell you now this thread did not stay open because of the author - but because the staff who saw it felt it was lighthearted and fun and people were having fun with it. if a mod actually broke a rule, I myself can speak on behalf of the adminstration and say they would be reprimanded and not allowed to do what they please. As a clan guy my entire platform is unbiased moderation with a section for the users - by the users. Lastly, I'm leaving the replies that got this thread locked, if I remove them, they look horribly out of context and this reply will make less sense than it does now with them. Rab - A former Adminstrator here said to me in 2001 - Tip.it is what you make it, as a user you define what the forum is - Think a thread sucks, don't post and it will plummet - One mans favorite thread annoys the other. every topic will never please everyone, So I ask you to be tolerant - Think a thread breaks the rules - Report it. Think it sucks? Go on to the next topic and let it die, Like it or wanna debate? Post away? Think they all suck, start your own topic and lets see how well yours does ;)

Firemaking, not a newb 99
What exactly does 99 smithing do? Let you make a small profit off of a plate that can be bought after completing an easy quest? :P Newsflash - you dont have to be 99 to do that - I had a combat ring first day it was released - infact I hit 50 the first day, not exactly hard if you got cash to blow And yes i'm serious Jagex has made us make X macros for quite some time

Firemaking, not a newb 99
I still wear mine with pride, as I got 90 in classic. :P *grumbleplundergrumble* Wonder what the original 99 cook's and fletchers think now, no way in hell do half of the people who have 99 cook now would do the certing/recerting cooking in draynor routine. The majority of RS2 players are spoiled to a point it's downright sickening, Although, I got to admit, I love the make - x stuff, so much I want it for Firemaking ;)

Tip.It Presents: RuneScript
The reason you don't want crediting is because you just want more copy+pasteable code for your website. :wall:  If only I had signature room left.

Firemaking, not a newb 99
Personally it is beyond easy to obtain the materials, I have 20+ Million xp in maples that I *could* use in a flash. I did not purchase them, but got them through the kingdom - did I want them - not really - I wanted bird nests/seeds and they were a byproduct. I know many many people who are in the same boat as me. Do I have 99 Firemaking? No, Do I have other 99's that are more difficult - sure. If I can get 99 smithing, pretty sure it's feasible I have displayed the drive to get a 99 with 7 total 99 skills. Infact I was thinking I would like to get an 8th 99 and have been eyeing firemaking - not because of anything other than I consider it easy. Personally Firemaking and Hunting are much more harder than cooking, you cant really read forums or chat because you require constant clicks to burn logs and burn box traps. The day Jagex releases a burn x - It will become the easiest and saddest cape in the game. - and my wrists will rejoice as I burn X my way to 99 if I dont already have it. Do I think it's a nice cape - Sure - But it's quick to train if you dont mind the wrist abuse and it's alot cheaper than most other buyable 99's are and have been for quite some time, so even though prayer, crafting and smithing can be powertrained with speed, it takes a LOT more cash to do so. Maybe it's because firemaking is largely lackluster, always has been and may always be. In classic people got hell for training it too. "Oh wow you can make fires" Lol.

The Clan Homepage
Back to nothing...All that was added was brand new content replacing nothing. What about it do you not like? I liked going straight to the clan forums using the link on the left side of the page. \ I can see about getting that added back, I believe it was supposed to stay. Sorry about that, that was my mistake, fixing it now. It's quite possible the banner link was invalid or the homepage/runehead was dead or mislinked. Take a look at this topic, viewtopic.php?f=39&t=746456

DF Defeats CORR
I wouldn't call it sad to change 3 clans in 1 month, especially if they are at a trial membership status, although I have 3 in 7 years quite a few people switch clans trying to find whats right for them and I have no issues with clan hoppers, this day and age most people have very long clan resumes.

Why did you join a clan?
It's a question that ultimately drives us all. Did you join to make friends? PK? to try out clanning? I joined wanderers originally to make friends and have some pk buddies.

Weekly Poll: Tip.It Times? (Special Discussion)
My goal is not to dispute or argue on the past history, I could say I never really bought into the mysteriousness and "who is the editor". If sacrificing content for a cult following of mystery that boil's down into a suspensful game of guess who is the suppose to be is a method of Times articles then yes, we perhaps have lost some of the luster hiding behind an unknown ID to make "An Important Meeting Takes Place" While they may be thought out, I never really personally found interest in "guess who!". We have published some excellent articles recently, Not to single out any authors but I certaily thought "Dont Forget Your Chores!" , "The Evolution of Ranged" . "Ranging to Make Ends Meet" , "More Steel than a ShipWright" , "A Time of War" and "The Plight of the Safe Spot were well constructed articles that had varying forums of style and were interesting reads. Some articles - are better and worse than others, but I felt that way as a user when the times debuted long ago. I personally thought articles back then, were hit or miss as well (Sorry, the happy birthday one to me was nothing more than filler space, clever or not). But as a personal friend of one of the interview candidates, I know he was upset that the editorial staff edited his words and responses sometimes using other words in place of others he used - correctly, so personally, I was not fond of quite a bit of the older pieces, especially considering I worked with a former editor or two at Runehead editorials, who were pretty much the managers of the whole affair and none had any nice things to say about the times or their past work experiences here. After all, rivaling it was the goal of us. Irony is now, years later, we are what desired to compete with. The biggest problem is alot of the old articles were controversial - Biased banning raising brows, "Jagex interfering?" and a few others constantly pushed the line of controversy to a point that downright disgusted me, the articles were popular perhaps, but it seems more people would rather read an anti-jagex piece than a nice omega-wytch style fan fiction. An Effective times could be this : "Does Jagex Care about its players? " You dont need fluff to make it big, but your fluff can greatly impact the discussion thread. It's easy to be negative, I have a reputation for being as such, it's much more challenging to find other avenues of articles - not that we dont wish to approach controversy - "QuickChat-Only Worlds" Hit the anti jagex trust issue, and no one really seemed to care, or "Functionality vs. Flash" a failed article of mine that is often a big debate in the gaming industry or was. As one of the recently appointed people who is in charge of staffing the Tip.it Times, I find it a difficult challenge. Not because I cant find writers, but because I can't find writers who want to write to a crowd that most feel cannot be pleased because its too short, too long, too wordy, too plain, the style is bad, the style is not one they like, and as a result of that, most people have told me they wouldn't touch writing for the general tip.it population with a 50 foot pole. I would like to think from the various posts in this topic that we will improve, as improving is always our goal, but personally I do not feel we are that much worse than some of articles of yesteryear. ~Das

And WoW people think we are stupid...
Such Shallow mind's over the bashing of people who enjoy dressing up. If a Darkhawk costume existed, I would wear it to every con I went too. I would have no problem dressing up as a bloodelf or a dwarf if thats what I wanted to do. You have to have self confidence to do it. and not care what other people think. If I dress up as thor, master chief, boba fett or the burger king, I dont really care if people think I look stupid. I am having fun, who cares

So PVP back eh? how's that for the economy?
Rune Armour Sets (l) Before: 147K After: 207K Big increase in that so smithers with high smithing are happy. Not really, Rune Ore is no where near the prices it used to be, not as much profit.
