  1. Huh? I think it's a really great idea. First of all, if you can expect to get your money back, people will "donate" more. That's the first big advantage. What I find even more important though is that it helps poor people out of their vicious circle and enables them to start their own business, through their own work, without being subsidized by others. I think that's a point that a lot of charity programs often neglect.
  2. Just finished City of Glass by Cassandra Clare. Was an enjoyable read, most of the plot "twists" were quite predictable though and often just too convenient for the characters
  3. Uh, nice try. I'm more or less thinking that mental illness needs to be more recognizable so those individuals can receive help. Gun control has nothing to do with this. The guy is clearly a madman. Gun control does nothing in a country where guns are so easily accessible. Well I guess you're right that it will probably take a while until such measures are of any use. With lax laws, there are obviously a lot more guns around. Still, over the long run I think they're going to help. You can also get people to hand over weapons to the police with an "amnesty" and possibly a small fee for the inconvenience or something like that. I agree though that society needs to be more aware of mental illnesses and do more to combat them.
  4. Well we're getting a real quest again in August so that's something at least :)
  5. Probably the opposite actually, they're hinting at this now in hope that giving the players time, they'll 'come around' to the idea. The Exp thing could be handy, although couldn't that be seen as RWT in a way? Pay for membership and we'll give you 'free' exp - Basically pay for exp? It could be seen as RWT, but then we already have RWT in the form of SoF, so what... :/
  6. It says a "chance" at 1 of the 4....so maybe they justify giving out powerful items by just giving them to a few lucky people? O_o I sincerely hope I'm wrong with this...
  7. The only thing that has me worried is the choose your faty thingy...
  8. We've passed that point already. Yelps is among the best training methods in the game. This is a huge improvement by comparison. No, you're not paying close enough attention. I'm saying that Solomon's shop will go beyond cosmetics. As others have mentioned, bonus exp cards, gp bundles, etc. Yeah sure it will. But two things to note: First of all, I don't criticize an update for what is going to go with it in the future (that is not confirmed). The solomon update is completely alright because it's cosmetic. Is it likely it will be more than cosmetic in the future? Yes. Does that make the current update worse? No. SoF IS already selling xp. It's also selling money with the increased cash gains and lucky items that allow you to sell your normal stuff. They are already doing what everyone fears Solomon may become. If solomon offers advantages in the future, that would suck, but it's not worse than what SoF is already, except maybe that you get better advantages for your cash. The only real step left over that I can think of is having SoF or solomon-only items that give you an advantage you cannot gain through other means (e.g. a weapon that's just more powerful than any other weapon)
  9. This is very true ~ also be known that the firm is being run by former Goldman Sachs - and IVP has a big hold in runescape... pretty much it is about cashflow now.... not about game play. They want their quick profit so their CEO can get their bonus. Well yeah but that's been the case AT LEAST for the last two years when IVP took full control, if not before that. So I still don't understand the fuss. I'd hope they'd remove SoF if Solomon gets them enough cash, but chances of that are very slim lol. Here's to hoping :P
  10. I don't see the problem with this, it's far less worse than SoF. At least no one can gain an advantage here. If someone wants to spend 40 bucks on an outfit, all power to them.
  11. Great idea. Let the bot market bloom by radically largening the player base willing to buy gold. That's the first issue. As for the original argument, I understand where you are coming from but I disagree. First of all it doesn't make things fairer. The big winners are those with time AND money, middle grounds are those with time OR money and the losers are those with neither. If you want to be the best, pour in the time. If you do not have that time, don't try being the best (Like e.g I am doing) or look for another game.
  12. Possibly, but I wouldn't be too sure tbh. At runefest, Nancy at one point spoke about the new spy aa a "penguin point". Might have been a mistake might not have been. Also considering that cold war gives 5 extra points and hunt for red raktuber only one...
  13. You won't believe how happy it makes me to see this :D Not just the quest, which should be awesome (After a loooong drought of decent quests), but also the new addition to the D&D which will hopefully make it even more entertaining. To answer the question on the page before, yes there will be a new spy, Nancy didn't tell us yet what it's gonna be (Seal? Walrus?) and according to her, it's gonna be (excuse me, original words) "a [bleep] to find" It didn't sound like we'd get any points multiplication like from Cold war though, so I don't think XP values are gonna rise much. I could be wrong though of course. Oh and if anyone wonders, this is not the end of the series and nancy doesn't have a definite end planned yet.
  14. I generally like this, I'm just a bit afraid that my herb run profits will go down :P
  15. Going back to your definition of progressives and conservatives (@ sees), the current law forces x and doesn't allow y. From your definition, a conservative should be fighting to legalize gay marriage to give people more choice; allow them to choose between x and y. I think you should come up with a better definition/understanding, since when applied to pretty much every social issue on the table right now, your definition is actually ass backwards since the conservatives are legislating to limit freedoms, or resisting legislation that would expand freedoms. Reread it again, The difference between the two is implementation. Literally what progressives are trying to do is legislate something to change the status quo. I'll give another example of something that isn't such a hot button issue. Poverty. Both conservatives and progressives will say it sucks to be poor, and that we should do something to help the poor. The difference is implementation. A conservative will volunteer their time/talent/treasure to help the poor, a progressive will pass legislation that gets government to help the poor. But a government IS there to legislate. I can't understand the blank disliking of any government involvement. I mean, I'm from Europe so maybe I'm just not familiar with that mindset (which is why I tend to hold back in this discussion), but...If a government has a decent law to help the poor, it could be so much more effective than individual involvement. I don't understand how legislation in itself is a bad thing.

    Today...

Well just out of gut feeling I would've chosen a. It sounds clumsy, but not wrong. b sounds wrong to me. it should be "Twice as many birds inhabit Ecuador than inhabit North America" If you leave out the verb it sounds unrelated.
  17. the rarest: dragon ceremonial, but since I couldn't care less about that it's....rune platebody. yep :|
  18. Yessssssss. excellent awesome!
  19. You're presupposing God doesn't exist. if you weren't, you wouldn't be able to say our ancestors created the idea. No, he's presupposing that our ancestors didn't have evidence for God either, which imo is an assumption that can be made without too much trouble.
  20. I've noticed that a lot of the times, topics are not being marked off as unread. I have not been able to figure out when or why this happens though. I think this may have happened one or two times before the forum update, but I'm not sure if I remember that correctly. It definitely happens quite often now, though.
  21. Also while the f-word in itself may not be that bad and no ones going to freak out if he sees it once, I find that it's often quite overused and can be annoying. And imho, [bleep] works just as well, everyone knows what you want to express ;)
  22. Is it just me or is there no real potential for useful combos? I didn't spend too much time in the beta yet, only weekend access and getting annoyed quite fast, but I've had a look at the abilities and to me it seems the only potential combos are with stunning, and either moving away, or using an ability that does increased damage on stunned/unmoving.
