It has literally been raining nonstop for four days where I live. It's supposed to stop today or tomorrow. It's actually making me feel pretty down right now. More down than usual. On a related note, here comes the sun (doodoodoodooo).
  2. ...isn't that a troll? Or are you trolling by purposely not acknowledging his trolling? Or maybe he was serious, but you perceived it as trolling, and in turn tried trolling us. Or maybe you're both serious. Too many possibilities. AHHHHHHH!! Methinks a troll originally and he didn't realize it was a troll. Who goes on FML anyways? It's basically 14-year-old girls telling lies and bored trolls looking to stir things up. I actually liked that comment. People should be more kind to homeless people and thieves. I mean seriously, what sort of person is so rude that he would buy someone coffee without a doughnut?
  3. I do agree that "Know Your Enemy" is pretty bad, although not their worst. But how can you say their new stuff is awful if it's the only song you've heard from the new album?

Freshman year of High School, first (real) girlfriend. We watched some crappy movie at my place and then I kissed her. Pretty average, except we made out for like an hour. It felt amazing at the time, but looking back on it it wasn't really that great.
  6. I'm not even going to bother arguing over this part of your post. That's how ridiculous it is. The first part is somewhat correct. We do try hard to get respect and not get shunned by the entire forum (Well, I can't speak for anyone but myself) because if we don't come off as very mature for our age, we DO get shunned. Somehow being 2 or 3 years younger then the average poster is grounds for not being taken seriously at all, even if our points are valid. As for the second part... No. Not at all. Ok let me restate this. Yes, yes that is correct the second half. Are all the points on it? No, it depends per user. The point I was trying to make is a lot of the users try to put down the others intellectually. Which is what I've garnered from quite a few posts. This is the only thing I have seen in any of your recent posts. Does that make you 13, or just immature? OT has taught me that arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still a [developmentally delayed].

I started having lucid dreams near the beginning of puberty, but they become less common as you get older. If I realized I could control a dream, I would go to sleep, then control that dream, then go to sleep, and control that dream. Some people say 3 levels is too deep but I say it can be done if you get the right people. At that point, I would be able to hypnotically transfer my conciousness to various important political figures and influence their minds. [spoiler=On a related note]
  8. Your* You're* Ah, you beat me to it. Wow. I bet your grammar teacher is crying her eyes out atm. *Incase you didn't realize, I was being sarcastic. I thought you knew... I'm well aware it was supposed to be you're.* Your just saying that so you won't look bad. I thought you might be, but sarcasm gets lost in translation over the internet (Which, coincidentally, annoys the HELL out of me).
  9. The Muslims involved in the building of this structure are Americans, and have the same rights as you or I. Just because a few extremists use the religion as an excuse to vent their frustrations doesn't mean the entire religion is hiding a bomb under its shirt. Islam is not the culprit here. It's a disgrace that supposedly well-informed public figures should think Islam and terrorism are synonymous. The fact of the matter is that these people have no more connection to the September 11th attacks than a modern semi-religious Christian has to the Crusades. There were American Muslims who died in the attacks as well. Do they have any less right to remembrance? Edit: To the above post, the Muslim terrorists are reactionary. A radical is an extreme liberal, a reactionary is an extreme conservative. And the man in charge of the mosque has repeatedly spoken out against terrorism, both before and after the attacks.
  10. Doing what you do and posting like "indie music is indie because it sucks and nobody likes it" - I'm aware that you're most likely having a sarcastic crack but it's not really warranted and doesn't add anything. Normally, I wouldn't have taken an issue; however, this is "Music, Movies and Television". I see this as a forum where you can discuss what you like and what you don't like as much as you want, although it does need to be kept within reasonable bounds. It's not your taste I'm actually taking an issue with, or even you yourself; just how you present your posts in this forum. It looks kind of arrogant, for want of a better word. The following section isn't actually directed at anyone; it's more general. I don't want to come off as a pretentious jerk-off, so take it lightly. "I don't particularly enjoy independent or underground music that much. I find I tend to enjoy more mainstream-oriented music because of x reason, y reason and z reason." is a perfectly agreeable and respectful response. Problems arise when someone decides to go out of their way and be a complete tool and act like "your taste sucks 'cause you listen to AC/DC; get some Boring Post-Rock Band #3331 on instead". Then the whole argument spirals out of control and becomes completely pointless, like every argument over music. People take delight in arguing over subjective crap all the time, an argument that neither side can win. You get frustrated and there's no satisfaction from winning the argument because you actually can't. I don't have much against bold statements as long as you're prepared to stand by them and not give in or act all "well it's just too deep for you" when someone disagrees. Discourse about music is pretty much fine but debating and arguing completely subjective points doesn't belong. This post is useless because it's not like anyone is going to listen to what I have to say but I felt I needed to post it. Summary: this forum is inherently subjective. Arguing s**ts up the board and gets on everyone's nerves. You know what annoys me? People who complain about complaining. This is a thread based on opinions, obviously people are going to butt heads. ALL OF YOUR MUSIC SUCKS BECAUSE IT SUCKS AND IS AWFUL AND THAT IS WHY IT SUCKS the only music I like is in Disney movies and also Brian Cincotta on iTunes he's sexy and nobody knows about him which makes me feel special and that is why I post my opinions on an online forum to be flamed. [unspam] I will say that any modern music that has any potential at all will be ruined within the first week by all the radio stations playing it five times each hour. I don't mind 3OH!3 if it's only for a few minutes (although I will turn it off immediately if I hear "do the Hellen Keller"). It's when the whole world decides a song is the best thing since "Soulja Boy" that I start to dislike it.

Bentomat, you really need to make up your mind. Either suicide is the logical solution to having problems with achieving happiness or it isn't. Suicide is a logical option, but not the best one. What I am really trying to say is that not all suicide is foolish. I truly dislike the pro-suicide seminar. By telling them, "it's not their fault ," you're doing the opposite of discouraging it. In fact, you're the ones making them feel more hopeless. I seem to be the only one fighting the idea of giving up on life, and saying that there is hope. What? By seminar I mean the meetings and discussions organized by an irl authority. I didn't say anything about faults. I'm not trying to discourage it. I'm saying that the normal "discouraging" is completely ineffective and is more likely to achieve the opposite result. There is hope for what? Meaning? That's just ridiculous and would be rejected as such.
  12. I disagree. Unless you have solid facts, it really depends on where you live and who you hang out with. It probably depends on age as well. I would say the larger the ornament, the more likely people will dislike it. There's nothing wrong with a couple of gemstones in a guy's ear. It's when you start shoving shark teeth up your nose that people get turned off.
  13. Too true <3 +1 to that. Especially in long, Black/brown boots. Like these (with or without heels): Past the knee they're too long. It really depends on the length of the skirt, although I do agree that those seem a bit tall. It looks like they fold down, which would look great if she would just lose those stockings.

How are you to ever talk someone out of it if you don't point out how foolish of an idea it is? Foolish? I proved suicide as an option logically a few pages ago. I disproved it by saying jumping from "life is meaningless" to "let's destroy it" was illogical, and the beauty in life makes it worth living, but it's possible that a person would not have taken those steps. There is nothing foolish about commiting suicide after reaching this conclusion and deciding that the beauty in life does not hold one's interest for long enough to justify prolonging it. It's the angsty, emotional suicidals who give the choice a bad name. Commiting suicide because of an emotional event or a feeling of loneliness is silly. Luckily, those people who are emotionally unstable enough to get up on the stool rarely have the courage to actually kick it. I must say that I truly dislike the average anti-suicide seminar. In addition to the main feeling motivating most of the people who actually care being fear and the fact that it's full of rich white girls looking for something to add to their college applications, the real effect on an emotional suicidal is to deepen his feelings of abandonment.
  15. I am annoyed when people use "they/them" instead of "he/him or she/her". It's not so bad irl, but when people are on the internet they should at least notice this sort of error in time to correct it. Them is plural. Him/her is singular. [spoiler=AMG RUENSCAP] Jamflax did it over 9000 times in this new clue event thing. The dialogue with Roddeck when he's talking about the eyepatch guy made me regret not being completely retired.

I'm already from the general area. It's just a bit more snow. It's a pretty expensive school though and I'm not positive I can get in. Are you from Vermont? Something like the top student in every class (in Vermont) gets three out of four years free.
  17. Get a better phone, hopefully with a qwerty. Bleh. I'm due for a new phone soon from the Verizon free phone thing, but I've never really liked texting anyways. It's just so much easier to have a conversation on the internet, or, dare I say, in person.
  18. Dupin replied to Pinkbullet3's topic in Off-Topic
I have a couple cousins at UVM who really like it there. You would have to deal with that Vermont weather though.
  19. I hate texting in general. It takes like a minute to type out a word of decent length and then I always end up going over the 160 character limit.

And why can't atheism be a lie? That's the problem with tif (I'm in no way singling you at Bentomat, I'm talking about all of tif) they are too one sided. They won't even consider the other side, well at least not before they mock it to death. (This goes with absolutely every argument. God, music, movies, culture, literature, people, everything.) I have arrived at atheism through a series of logical conclusions. I didn't elaborate because I didn't want this to become a religion thread -- there's probably one of those already running in OT. You are certainly entitled to your own opinion, but I find it illogical. I guess the reason I posted that in the first place is that belief in the afterlife drastically changes one's ideas about death. You're kidding, right? How many people go to jail for suicide? I'm talking about how stupid people get when they're in love. Love hurts us badly, and there's no need for it in our civilization. Love in itself is an irrational concept. Basically, Hollywood and High School have given our animal instincts a title to make them seem more civilized. If a person gets stupid in love, it's because that person was stupid in the first place. We've all been there. The only real fault here would be to not learn from that experience.
  21. Dupin replied to Abc1230's topic in Off-Topic
There are still some things we can't resist. Love for example. Love, Iamdan? I think you, of all people, would know better. I must ask, what exactly do you mean by love? Do you mean the animal instinct that makes you feel attracted to women? Not resisting that would be called rape. Perhaps you mean the agreeable feeling that comes from a happy mutual existence with a fellow human being? There isn't much to resist here. Luckily, the urge to live is not one of those irresistable instincts.
  22. Dupin replied to Abc1230's topic in Off-Topic
The chemical argument is ridiculous. If we, as males, acted upon the chemicals in our brain, there would be constant rape and fights for superiority. Instinct is irrational. Humanity has evolved to be able to resist that irrationality. This is what the common man calls "civilized".
  23. Dupin replied to Abc1230's topic in Off-Topic
God is a lie. There is no afterlife. Nothing you do could possibly make any difference in this world. If you do something wierd, you could perhaps be posted about for a week on a forum full of pimply teenagers pretending to be overage. If you do something important, you could be in a history book 100 years later, but when our modern civilizations have fallen, you will be forgotten. Humanity itself is completely unimportant relative to the entire universe. If you live a successful life with a happy family, you could live on in the minds of your children and grandchildren. But what about when they die? The most you would be is a name on a family tree. If this is the only life, and it is nothing, then who are you to prevent another from ending the monotony and turmoil of life? That said, suicide itself is not rational. There is no reason to close the door on this life when we have no other home to go to. Happiness is what makes life worth living. If one is unhappy with life, the logical answer is not suicide, but a search for happiness. According to Aristotle, happiness arises from the development of that trait that we value most. Humanity's outstanding trait is its intellect. Therefore, one can be happy by developing the intellect to its full potential.
