High ranking players not as "nerdy" as we think?
Outsanity replied to FirenLazah's topic in General Discussion
Lies. I do think that high ranking players are quite geeky. Nerds are, by the definition I have learned, people who are quite intelligent, don't have too many friends if any, and are isolated (in study). Geeks are people who are enthusiastic about a subject and have quite a lot of knowledge, ability, or skill in that area. Examples include a computer geek or a band geek. I'm quite geeky about finding out the best ways to level in RuneScape, but I waste a lot of time and could have a significantly higher total level if I hadn't used a lot of time just browsing the internet or just playing minigames on RuneScape. Now whether they have some real life acquisitions such as a good job/career/degree/education and good social relations depends on their efficiency, the time they have played (when they started RuneScape), and their time used on things other than skills in RuneScape. It really just depends and there are quite a lot of people who do an overwhelming job with keeping balance in their life while excelling. Uha.. Donno what your calling me a liar about but thats a good opinion which I somewhat agree with. Briefly: Imo geeks are people who are intelligent but are generally liked and socialable. Nerds are people who are intelligent but mean and less liked. Again thats all down to opinion. The same way the word 'noob' is. Being a geek or a nerd is linked to any particular subject you want. Its also a immature saying imo but I dont mind it either. I accept people like to chuck it about and take it as a compliment most times depending who said it and what context. Tbh I dont act smart and love to live life myself so although im a geek I am also reasonably 'normal' too in a abnormal way. If that makes any sense lol. - Chucking something else out there. I dont mention it often but some high ranking (Aswell as lower) players must have OCD too which helps out alot in this game. (While levelling to keep fast xp rates etc.) If you have control over that condition you can play safely without it consuming you. So im not saying they are compulsive players. I said 'some' as there are undoubtedly people who are just very passionate about the game. Me included. Thats one mental condition/gift of many that can actively aid players keep efficiency aswell as intelligence which often comes with such conditions/mind. Anyway this is far too deep for this forum so I stop there. Also understand this applies to ALL PLAYERS. So its actually rather irrelevant lol. If you consider someone who is passionate about something to be a geek then yes many high levels are.. If you do not consider a geek to be this.. Then I guess they are not. Its down to opinion. I highly believe that most 'high level's have 'lives' though. People cant survive without them.. Every high level I met has a 'life' outside of runescape. Its kinda immature to presume otherwise. [/hide] You definitely don't have an IQ above 160 if you couldn't even figure out what I was calling you a liar about. *rolls eyes back* I dont care about proving it. Jealousy sucks [wagon] especially over the internet.. #-o The average is 80-120 with genius around the mark of 140-160. Its not uncommon for me to meet people with IQs over 140. I simply am higher and if anyone is jealous of that then thats their problem tbh. I was banter joking although I was serious. Not seriously bragging. To point it out is embarrassing they felt they had to. Why bother bringing up things of little relevance and/or that which can't be proven over 't3h int3rn3tz'. Not only that, but even if you were to put something of substance to prove your claims, most of us still wouldn't believe you. Not only are IQ tests inefficient and inaccurate in determining what they claim to do but consider this; Albert Einstein who is universally considered to be brilliant, never took an IQ test in his life but most historians and scientists typically agree that he had an IQ of around 160, if you are trying to claim that you have intelligence on a level similar to or equal to Einstein..well don't expect any of us to believe you. Meh, I would be more inclined to believe this is one of those cases of someone taking one of those silly little IQ tests that are so rampant on the internet that have very little scientific or sound base, and thus that someone scoring a 'high IQ' on that test and going around proclaiming it so, and believing in it. Not only this, but quite frankly I will say one more thing in addition: People who are truly intelligent need not brag about it. If you really have an IQ (which, by the way, IQ tests really aren't an accurate account of anything of importance anyway) of 160, you wouldn't need to be telling everyone you've got it. True intelligence comes from those who don't know they are intelligent, they just are. And anyway, you sound a lot like some high school kid trying to make himself appear older or more knowledgable on an internet forum. Really? I'm mean....really? There's nothing to prove, and if you're claims of an IQ of over (we're talking over 160, not even around or at 160) you should be securing jobs doing something like rocket science or engineering or finding a cure for cancer or inventing the next life changing product. But instead, you're using that intelligence to sit here and prove to us you're intelligent. That is called waste, and if you were truly a bright individual, you would not be wasting your talents. -

So you're saying because I'm quite intelligent AND am enthusiastic about it, have an immense amount of knowledge about it, and lots of ability and skill in the area, that I am a nerd? I mean, sure, if you want to call me a nerd for that reason, fine, but I'll take it as a compliment. Bottom line is that Nerd is a word teenagers and younger created a few decades back to insult others to make themselves feel better. Somehow, by calling someone else a derogatory (or what they feel will be derogatory) name they are proving they are better than that person in "real life." Really, all that child (and yes, I'm using the age card here) is doing is proving how immature and unable to face the real world they are. -

I don't know if you'd consider someone of my level high, as I don't have the maxed total or anything like that, but I have got decently high levels and have been playing since february of 05. Does this make me a nerd? Well, no. You see, during all this time playing runescape I've always done theatre. In High School I was always in 2+ more shows at once, with rehearsals from 2 pm to 6:30pm everyday (after a school day of 7am to 2pm) and I just recently graduated from a musical theatre conservatory in new york city. I know loads of professionals in the broadway and film and television business, and I myself have been auditioning for shows, hoping to make it myself. Now if I could achieve all of this in the same 4 years I've played runescape, while still playing runescape, and I have the talent, hard work and friendships to show for it, I'd say that makes the nerd status go away, right? I bet a lot of the top 21+ players have amazing lives you just simply don't know about. They usually just have been playing longer or more efficiently than you have. Does not mean they have less of a "real life" than you. -

Well then again if they did that it would somehow become any other RPG fighting game... Right...but if you made it online capable what is the point? If you want to play online you already have the real thing. lol. -
As long as they skill after then yeah. But I still see the people with all 99 melee stats and like 20m exp in each skill, with bad skilling skills. (lol...redundant, yes.) But it's the way they want to play. If they only like combat, they only like combat. That's ok. They just have bad skills other than combat and if they really like it so much then comments from others shouldn't even phase them.

This is where I LOL'd. Obese[/b]"]http://www.diseaseproof.com/archives/research-more-obese-americans-than-overweight-americans.html Although, another 32% are overweight...so that's 65%+ are either of the two. Not cool tbh. :shame: Seriously, to unspam: [hide=Thought this would be cool] Seriously though, what if RS were a buyable pc game, like WoW and you could move around like wow and whatnot. But it still had everything it does now, including f2p, just more in depth with certain things like combat,(also i think agility would be much more fun if there was interaction) Which do you think would be a better game then?..Not that I wanna start that argument again...[/hide] Thank you for that. I like someone who can produce evidence to back things up. At least someone's making an attempt to educate themselves other than me. lol. (Sorry, was that offensive, too?) Either way, I think a Runescape platform would be great. I don't know if I would like it to be online capable, though. I mean, I just think a beatable rgp adventure game on all the major platforms would be awesome. Perhaps a story pertaining to lucien, where you kill him in the end and save the world. Along the way you train skills very similar to runescape's skilling and grow stronger to get past obstacles and areas of the map. Good idea. :) -

Yes, and Germany has problems with it just as much. But since I am actually in America, and I see it first hand everyday I feel it's more appropriate for me to point out something I have an actual personal experience with. But yes, you're right, and obesity is a problem everywhere. However, most of the players on Runescape are American, British and Dutch. And out of those three nationalities, America wins the cup for largest obesity problem. That's all I meant to say. -

But the fact that the product is sold out means that there's probably not enough being made. This, in my eyes, means there's a lot of overweight people who shop on runescape.com. And lighten up, by the way. If you can't accept the fact that America's an obese country you're living in a fantasy world. The truth hurts. Just accept it. lol. Seriously? How are you such a [puncture] that you center Americans in your struggle of life? Keep your thoughts and hate on others countries away from this forum. Please? This isn't the RSOF so don't act so immature. Actually, sir, my thoughts of hatred and derogation aren't just opinions. It's a widely known fact that American's currently as a large population suffer from obesity. It's not me being a [puncture] so much as it is me taking a truth and turning it into humor. If you think I'm hurting your feelings or anyone else's I guess I'm sorry, but you'll need to take it up with the countless comedians, nationally broadcasting these same thoughts and remarks on many television channels first. And while your sentiments are clearly aimed for the well being of others, I'm just going to say that I never once named names. If I had maybe called out someone in the first person sense, then sure, call me rude. But as I said before, if you're offended by such a small observation, or if you think anyone else is, then maybe you should think about this: Things can be rude and generalized, but every racial slur and every crack made towards any type of human being will always be offensive and/or hurtful to someone, somewhere. But no matter what, every one of those slurs of cracks has SOME sort of substantial fact or truth to them, and while you believe you should shield the poor, innocent eyes from everything that could ever hurt them, I say that helps them grow. Fact. Obesity is unhealthy in every way, shape and form. Fact. Heart disease and other health problems are found in patients with obesity problems more than those without it. Fact. It is something people should think about fixing if they want to live longer, healthier lives. If we don't teach that personal fitness and health is a good thing, with the new age of technology among us (where basically going outside as a kid is a thing of the past due to video games and now such sad things like Wii Fitness), children will grow up being lazy and unhealthy. Sorry if you think this is a strong or "rude" statement, but I'm not the only one who knows this is the truth, and that's where you can't argue. -

That's because most kids who play online games are chubby pale children who are never seen gracing the ground of the outside world, and sit in there rooms chowing down on chocolate while they train up their runescape characters. lol. I'd need a small. Have high metabolism, so I eat like a fat kid, only without the bad side effect. lol. This proves we need to start making computers you have to power by treadmill electricity. =-p (This wasn't meant to be offensive...much.) -
Usually (and I'm not saying always) people are just combat trainers and they use pest control or soul wars to do it. So you've got level 130+'s with only like 1200 total and it's just rediculous. My opnion though, which is the key point. Total level is a way to sort of measure how much effort and time you've put into the game. If you see a level 138 combat with like 1500 total, and then a 138 combat with 2,200 total, you tend to be way more impressed with the 2,200 total, right? That's just a way to kind of materialize the thought. It's not like your combat isn't impressive. It is. It's just that the rest of your skills are junk. That's all. And as long as your fine with your skills other than combat being junk, then who cares what others say or think?

95 Runecrafting
Outsanity replied to BladeMe's topic in Achievements (Drops, Bank Pictures and Levels)
I consider level 95 a milestone. A lot of people when they try to go for "all levels (number)+" usually go by 5s. So it's like, All levels above 80, 90, 95, etc. Congrats. 10/10. Runecrafting is an amazing skill to get that high. How much cash have you made on the way? -
The author of this is absolutely right. People don't like to think they can be killed. They like to think they are invincible and, should anyone beat them, they were cheated somehow by the one who killed them. This is a common mentality of TEENAGERS and younger. When the world is harsh to them they'll blame it on anyone but themselves as they feel they are immortal and nothing should ever go wrong in their lives. They simply carry it on over to Runescape. I am a Hitpoint, Defense, Strength, Attack, Prayer, Summoning, Food, Potion, etc etc noob and proud of it. If I can take down 10 opponents before I die once, because of my defense, then GO ME for training my defense and BOO THEM for being childish and not training something in order to try to prove their "manhood." Let's face it: It's a bunch of internet geeks. If you're going to try to put someone down for doing something smart in their gameplay tactics then maybe you should rethink your life. You're not being mature nor smart online. I'd hate to see how you act in the comfort of your real life.

I don't think new skills are overrated like a lot of people. Yes, pre-existing skills can be updated, but there's NOTHING like being one of the first people to train a new skill on the day of it's release and climb in rank. Usually when a new skill comes out I'm around level 75-80+ in the first week (Summoning was the only exception for me so far) and it's a great feeling to have such a level for a new skill. And they add something new to the game. A new way to play and train. I love training so it's a great thing for me. I am hoping a new skill comes this year.

The Last Frontier of Runecrafting: The Soul Altar
Outsanity replied to whatisup618's topic in General Discussion
Simply enough, there's not anything in the game that *really* adds a constant flow of soul runes to the game. Monsters drop them, but usually in 4s and 5s. If the Soul Altar were released, people would use them more. Remember bloods? 500 gp each and people wouldn't use them to train magic? Now they are 275 each and people use them in place of deaths for faster magic training. This is simply because of the release of the Blood Altar. It's the fastest rc exp in the game if you're making your own runes for profit, and not using the ZMI or runners. Because of this people make deaths for a nice balance of exp + profit. This creates more bloods in the economy, and more people people use them as there is a steady, cheap flow of them. Souls will essentially be similar to this, only souls aren't attacking runes. They're just used for the stat lowering spells. Yet, still, I predict more use. The price will be lower, but there will be more use. -
