  1. for the most part I am more of a republican, but less authoritarian.
  2. moved to questionnaires - this thread is better suited there.
  3. Where do you live? In the US there is a waiting period of a few weeks on machine guns, and in Canada (as your signature suggests) Machine guns are banned altogether. I state right were i currently live in that post. ;) Then you need to use a regular sized font. Nevertheless, my first post still stands. The law that requires several weeks for a machine gun transfer is a federal law, not a state one.
  4. Where do you live? Even in countries where there actually is no guns whatsoever for the populace (where even illegal ones are hard to come by) like Japan mass stabbings still kill lots of people. Just a few months ago a 20 somthing guy went on a rampage and stabbed 7 people to death, and critically injured another 17. (source = http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1812808,00.html)
  5. Getting weapons away from gang members is a good goal, but just banning guns in general is useless. By definition only legal gun transfers are affected by banning guns, and statistically very few legally purchased weapons are used in crimes (they tend to be stolen or smuggled weapons that are not legal or never were legal). If you can find a way to take guns away from gang members then you will reduce gun related murders, but as the UK's statistics show, banning guns will not reduce homicides; people will just turn to knives and other weapons.
  6. Put simply, its not: Trends in recorded violent crime in England and Wales, the United States, Canada, and Australia, rate per 100,000 persons, 1962-2004 Both Australia and the UK have very strict gun control. Canada's is only slightly worse then the US. Source is the Australian goverment: http://www.aic.gov.au/publications/cfi/cfi115.pdf
  7. Locked on authors request, but next time please do not edit your first post. If the same problem happens to another person again, they can refer to the thread for answers.
  8. *points at the topic mentioned above* locked, post there if you want to continue this discussion.
  9. As you may have heard, the US supreme court case District of Columbia V. Heller was decided today. Heller was a security guard that wanted to keep a handgun in his home for self defense but due to a district law, handguns were banned. He sued the district in court claiming that banning handguns infringes the second amendment to the constitution, which reads: There was two schools of thought here; that this either protected the militia's right to bear arms (which DC claimed was the national guard) or the people's right to bear arms. The court ruled in favor of Heller, striking down the bans and writing a decision that said that the amendment specifically refers to the peoples right to bear arms. (the actual decision can be found here http://www.scotusblog.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/07-290.pdf) My question is what do you think of this? Personally I am in support of the decision, and I hope that this will lead to the striking down of similar type related bans in other parts of the country.

They take the radioactive material out into the desert. The US government is trying to open http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yucca_Mountain_Repository the Yucca Mountain Repository, where it has already been determined that the water table is low enough that by the time it floods the caverns the waste is stored in there will be practically no radioactivity left. While nuclear power is potentially dangerous (like just about everything else), fossil fuel based power is much, much more dangerous in the long run.

That is the point, three mile island was a well designed reactor with a containment building that was adequately designed, unlike Chernobyl. A meltdown there did occurred and yet no radioactive or otherwise dangerous materials leaked into the environment. Despite scaring some people, the only damage that happened because of the three mile island incident was within the reactor core. A correctly engineered reactor is very, very safe.

the love canal disaster was an incident that occurred in Tennessee if I remember right where a company dumped toxic chemicals into a dump then sold the land above it to a developer without telling them. A neighborhood was built above the dump, and people were getting all sorts of diseases because of it. Thats not entirely true, it depends on things like the size of the reactor and the design of the reactor. For instance, the Israelis have bombed nuclear reactors in Syria, Iran and Iraq and the fallout was negligible. If a large commercial plant had its cooling system damaged and a meltdown occurred (and the containment building failed) you may see big fallout but for the most part the small research reactors the Iranians and North Koreans are not particularly dangerous. Chernobyl has had its worst effect in discouraging other countries, particularly the United States, from building new nuclear power plants. The design of the reactor was horribly unsafe, and the operators were incompitent, but it has caused people to fear perfectly safe reactors.
  13. ok then. Locked.
  14. Locked. As Earpy noted above, there is already a huge topic about this already.
  15. As said above, tipit is not a place for homework help. A discussion about the Caribbean islands is OK, but if you want homework help try Wikipedia, the CIA world fact book or Google. ~Locked~
  16. Your list is pretty much correct aside from what BloodfleshX mentioned; unless you are building an ultra high end PC you will not need to buy a separate sound or network card. As for an actual parts list, if you just post your budget and what country you are from (since prices are different depending on country) I or several other people would be happy to put together a parts list for you.
  17. ............aaaaaaand 0 EDIT: ooh it seems that I have mod powers in this forum now.

  19. OK everyone, Goddess is right. Cut the pointless country bickering or this topic will be locked. I would have just deleted the off topic posts, but it seems that more then half of this thread is people arguing. If you want to continue, do it through PM.
  20. Locked, for two reasons. First, this topic provides no discussion value and second if you need a video of the emote just go to youtube, there is several there.
  21. my posting quality has improved somewhat since then.

  23. If you can open your computer case, just wipe the insides down with a damp cloth and let the water dry before using it again. As long as the computer is not plugged in the water will not damage the computer, and wiping it off should fix your overheating problems unless you have a broken fan or something.
  24. well what do you want to clean off the laptop? Just a few word documents, or do you want a secure wipe? DBAN cleans everything off the HDD, including the operating system so you will need to reinstall it before returning the computer.
  25. 9/10 I see you all the time
