The Emerging Runescape Intellectual Class
Doomster replied to primadog's topic in General Discussion
How about: Runescape Wiki As with any wiki, thanks to open editing, it has it's problems (which have included plagiarising from fansites by unscrupulous editors), and some pretty major bustups from admin's gone crazy. In the main, it is a pretty intelligent place, though given to occasional disputes on the direction that should be taken. The plus of a user edited wiki, is that with good user support, it could be first with any reports, since edits go straight online. -
For Training food, HP per GP or ease of obtaining is often more important than max healing, with "local produce" having a distinct advantage. My Stronghold of security rig always includes fishing kit, and I'd suggest firemaking as well, if you burn a lot, so you can cook at the fishing spot and replace the losses - otherwise the permanent fires at Peksa's or the hall can be used.

If already F2P, bad news, you can't sell or alch members stuff in F2P, also you missed the chance to "bank-stuff" and work with a P2P-sized bank in F2P by using placeholders. If you bank is larger than F2P, you CAN bank items that are already there, but 1-only items and careless "withdraw all" can be a problem.

Depends: Once you have the attack level for your preferred weapon and the defence level for your preferred armour, the usual thing would be to max-out your strength. There is a a piece of armour that needs higher defence, 75 for the dragonfire shield, though you won't be using that if you want to use full barrows with weapon.

Which do u prefer and why? Magic, Melee, Range
Doomster replied to steathpure's topic in Questionnaires
Hybrid FTW. I like the simplicity of melee, and with any half-decent fishing and cooking, the only consumable supplies are easy to obtain. Where there are good safespots, Mage and range. In members (going eventually), there are PvM encounters where distance combat is a must, as you would be dead meat going toe to toe with the super monsters. -
How about spells with a chance of leaving the runes on the ground to pick up, to even out the cost compared to recoverable arrows for range. Definitely, the member mage should have a use for the special bar, anything from double/rapid casting, through stat boosts or semi-protection, to spells that can be cast using only special power and no runes. Another possible special, would be a knockback. Example for the 4 elements: Air: Special - Magic storm, knocks opponent back 1-5 spaces along with damage. Water: Special - Magic drowning, protection/prevention of fire spells or dragonfire for a short time. Earth: Special - Earth force, slows oppenent. Fire: Special - Magical fire, possible dragonfire hit.

All I want, is a fun weapon, it's about time we had another fun weapon. Just missed the rubber chicken, and there has not been a fun weapon since. What I'd love to see at Christmas, is snowballs as a permanent fun weapon - places you can remake them, and have them as a ranged weapon which goes "splat" in non PK, and is -100 or whatever in actual combat, a range version of the rubber chicken.

The gravedigger event is "hot" sometimes, and at other times, NOT. My rate of burying related randoms is through the floor at the moment, can't remember when I last saw Leo, a Zombie or a Shade, but plenty of "all purpose" ones. I'd go for champions guild chickens, they got me full Zombie when it was new.

I'd say a lot more honest players would woodcut, without the insane competition for Yews (and even lower level trees). Macroing resources has two main effects: 1. Price depression 2. Freeze-out - on resources that are competed for, players get tired of losing to bots, unless they have a super-level to freeze out the bots. Of the primary resource gathering activities (F2P) 1. Essence mining - non-competetive, and when Jagex "fixed" this, they made the situation worse on other resources 2. Ore mining - fully competetive, "winner takes all" on each rock. 3. Woodcutting - competetive, many cutters bring down a tree fast with few logs each. 4. Fishing - slightly competetive, more fishers mean more spot moves, a random which inconveniences all. 5. Shop hogging - competetive buy-out... fixed (at what cost?) by the shop update with repercussions for buyers, sellers and makers. Couldn't care less about RWT, other than how the bots steal from legit players - if item trading (real world) is so popular, I wish they would consider changing from a subscription to an item-buy mode, so those with more money than patience would be subsidising those who take a slower path.

Looking at http://www.nanopoint.co.uk/en/pages/pro ... boards.php - the link given for Keysonic from Ebuyer, it doesn't look like this is wireless. Problem with illumination on a cordless, it vastly increases the power used when not actually transmitting keystrokes

The Magic calc appears to include hit XP for all spells except Crumble undaed, where only the base XP is used, makig it suggest that more crumbles than fire bolts would be needed. Now Crumbles are not the double XP bargain they used to be, but they do fit in pretty much with their level now.

While waiting, there are other ways to freeze prayer drain. 1. Ring of stone (expensive for what it does) 2. Ring of egg (Easter ring) - a replaceable freebie if you got it in the easter event a while back 3. Click on an unavailable emote (is that bug abuse?)

Java is also on a path to opensource (pending replacements for a few components which cannot be open sourced). This makes cross-compiling for other platforms a point which may not even need to involve Sun. I'm guessing that "platform X gets java" is a more likely propostion than "Runscape non-Java", since they are the JAVA Gaming Experts, after all. One of the "unique selling points" of RS, is that it can "load and go" in a Java-supporting browser, and the platforms which lack Java tend not to have a fully functional Flash either.

A workable STR pure in F2P needs 40 attack to wield a rune weapon (in members, a 50+ STR Mauler is possible). From complete scratch, I would start with 3 strength from the tutorial rat cage, 3 ranged and 3 magic (drop & get 5-6 sets of runes before casting), then train to 8 attack on the dummies - that gives you a 10HP raw pure, with no HP gained - that will convert into whichever pure you want, as the combat level in the final combat trained skill will not be altered by the no-HP trainings. A bit of cooks assistant, and some intensive shrimp fish and cook (to 15 and then bait/sea or to 20 and then fly/river for trout) takes care of training food requirements. Doric's quest and Knights Sword, with some mine & smith, takes care of making/replacing the obligatory Iron armour. An eye on Vampire slayer, for some extra attack, but that comes later. If you just completed the dummies, you can wield a Steel weapon and are on the way to Black. You may also want to train ranged, to 20 for studded chaps (better than Iron legs) or to 40 for dragonhide chaps & vambs, or consider converting to a range/R2H hybrid - alternatively, if you favour the lower loss factor of full self smithed Iron, then skip ranged. For cash, either let it trickle in from drops (coins, any drops with non-zero store value), skill and sell to stores, or skill and trade to players (generally most profitable, but oftem means losing some possible skill XP - eg. selling bars).

I wondered if it was the Maidenhead server - is that your closest? That is one hell of a ping time, though as I understand it, there are two modes in ADSL, one has lower ping times, the other is better for throughput if the line is not good enough for the other mode... fastpath and interleave, though that may not be correct. Also try a TRACERT to somewhere - http://www.bbc.co.uk is often used as an example, to see if the ping is high from the very start, or only as it crosses networks. As for Runescape, I have a very long settings string which tunes my Java for dual core or hyperthreading, though I'm not sure how much real difference it makes. Also, Java is now at Version 6 update 3 - highly recommended to apply this security update.

One good curse area is the Al-Kharid mine scorpions, from the rim - reasonable numbers of them, and when the curse does hit, probably won't have to wait too long for someone else to kill. Ducks are another good option, and a classic target because: 1. There are plenty of them 2. They can't hit back (unless you walk to the edge) 3. They are not in great demand If a curse does take, they also die pretty quickly if you walk up and hit with your staff

The dangerous smithing quest (at low level) is Knight's Sword. One way to get the Blurite is to equip only a pick, carry nothing but a littele medium food which you MUST use up, then mine the blurite and then ensure that you have no food left when you die. Blurite is at the very last of your 3 saved items, so it has to be one of the ONLY 3 items you are carrying. Doric's Anvil should be done early, using bought or picked up Iron. Actually, if you mine and smith, load up on dropped ores if the mining is bad, as smithing is always going to trail mining. One priciple which always helps - "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade". If your training spot is too busy to be useful, have a plan B. Plan B may be to save up some smithing to do when the mining is bad.

Of the "regular" materials (gems cannot be relied upon). 1. Silver, making Tiaras at 52.5 XP a pop. Side bonuses: Mining & smithing (smelting), small amount of coins if you sell. Drawbacks: Slow respawn, walking time or teleport to furnace, competition for silver 2. Hard leather bodies, 35 XP a pop Side bonuses: A little combat, small amount of coins if you sell. Drawback: no make X/all on HLBs 3. Bowls 33 XP a pop Side bonus: minimal to mining Comparing Bowls to HLB. 1. Raw materials: Mine 1 clay (total 14 and 14 water containers): kill 1 cow, pick up hide (total 25, 3 spaces = needle, thread & coins) 2. Preprocessing: Fill (does all) water containers, wet all clay : Hard tan all hides 3. Making: Make X bowls, fire X bowls : Use needle with hard leather & repeat 4. Disposal: Drop 14 times : Drop (repeat) or go to store and sell Not a lot in it - the key to the bowl thing is the autofill of all identical water containers, the new "make all soft clay" option, and if you don't have 14 identical containers, then as you make bowls, you can use them for the water. The number of actions required are similar - though hard leather has fewer steps, it has some extra single actions (picking up & one by one making).

Can't see that it would fall foul of any rule, as it's not RWT. Also can't see how you could stop it being abused. Free armour for Bronze/Iron/Steel wars, or perhaps a package of runes for a mage or arrows for a ranger joining a war night be better - and food would always go down well.
-
As you also have a mining target, maybe push your smithing too, as anything you can mine, smelt and make that alchs for more than the price of a nat would be good to alch. It may not be the most efficient, but I've always RC'd minds & airs, and thrown fire strikes by the K, safespotting Ankou or Lessers - and making a curse hit first, to increase the hits. Failed cursing is so insanely tedious. As is single cast crumble, nerfed of its double XP because there are members weapons which auto-cast it. Pest control may be a possibilty, use mage attacks and put points to mage(100 at a time for the bonus), or save the points for a Void Knight Mace if you want a crumble autocast weapon and have the stats for it.

Clay Bowling is another possible: With 14 finished bowls (work your way up using water jugs etc.) Mine 14 clay (1 hitting) Fill (fills all) bowls at the sink Walk toward the potters wheels, and at the same time, make all soft clay Make and then fire 14 (make x, hit 22, 33 etc.) more bowls, drop 14 & repeat. The dropping is the worst of this. If you go the HLB route, then you need to have coins to pay for tanning, needle & thread - alternatively, you could walk to Rimmington to sell the bodies to the general store and restock thread from the craft shop

The room in the northwest (after going through the spiders). There is a safespot on the west wall, with an opening to the north that is too narrow for the catablepon to enter (just watch TB@JT go and nerf it now). Since there is no actual obstruction, P2P with Attractor would quite likely get their arrows collected as well. PS. If you bury their bones, even when they go non-aggro you would do well to do it in the safe spot, as if a random takes you away and drops you back in the open, they will be on you the moment you reappear.
-
The room at the south has a more robust safespot, possible to hold 100% if you don't pick up until "safe". Ankou are more susceptible to magic, all spells, as well as crumble, than to range. The Catablepon, (third level) have a totally rocksolid safespot in the northwest room, and range works best on them - they have high magic resistance, and use weakens to upset melee fighters. Alternatively, range on lower level stuff. the Mintaurs are good iron droppers and the Zombies (second level) are better than breakeven for dropping steel arrows - even more so if melee fighters are leaving their arrow drops.

Looks like runes are going to be infinite, so the good news, the flaming bots are no longer able to buy the shop out, the bad news is that runes are probably going to be more expensive, though at least you'll be able to buy them. Chaos & death runes do have a balance problem in F2P, as making them yourself is not an option, leaving the store or runecrafting members as the only source apart from unreliable drops. A better option would have been to deal with store hoggers, with perhaps an "angry shopkeeper" random, maybe stacking objects where told to (based on the mats in Drill Demon), or "catch the shoplifter" (based on evil twin). -
Does playing runescape hurt your computer in any way?
Doomster replied to 22unamed22's topic in Help and Advice
The only thing, RS is pretty CPU intensive, so if the heatsink is full of muck and the fan half dead, it won't be good - but then neither will any other game with any serious CPU demand, or anything else that takes the fan above idle.
