  1. The Rune Scimitar is generally reckoned to be better than the Long... The long has: Slightly higher slash attach and strength, much more stab (controlled style) attack, and is sold at the champions guild. Disadvantage: Only a medium speed weapon. The Scimitar has: Higher speed, it's the strongest of the fast weapons. Disadvantage: No F2P store, so must be bought from other players unless you have very good smithing. There are only two reasons not to use a Scimitar: 1. You can't be bothered with the chaotic trade worlds. 2. You want to train in controlled (all melee stats) style. If you really want a stab attack, then the dagger or short sword are better for that. Other weapons: Rune Mace - for a little prayer bonus, but the mace is not a great weapon. Rune B-axe - SLOW, powerful but so SLOW, though its alternative crush attack has some advantage against plate armour. Of course, the 2 Hander is a total non-starter against Elvarg, without the shield, you will be toast. The Scimitar's strength is its speed, not the power of each attack, but the rate, as fast as a dagger, so a miss with a Scimmy is not as big a loss as a miss with a weapon that strikes harder, but less often.
  2. Ranked in all F2P skills, not a bad start, but your strongest support skill seems to be woodcutting... Yews would be easier in members, less autos. Fishing is another strong skill, and also better in members (easier banking of Lobs & swordies). Your cooking level is just one short of a high healing option, Tuna potato, or you can do a Mushroom potato (heals 20) without needing the "difficult" ingredient, sweetcorn. If the object is to make money, then you don't want to be gobbling expensive sharks in combat. Runecraft is painfully low though... crafting better runes to use or sell is one of the pluses of members. Membership is monthly, as much or as little as you use it
  3. If you can only afford one rune piece, make it a Scimitar or longsword, and yes, go with the silverlight against the Lesser, if you don't have a rune weapon. I'd also be inclined to carry an escape tele - the Skull sceptre is the best, as it is only one space, though the higher level piece drops are a challenge.
  4. It says: Graphics Controller ATi Radeon x1650se 512MB Semi-shared In reality, that probably means 256MB of card memory, and 256MB borrowed (hypermemory) from the system. Borrowing system memory has been done before (AGP textures / DME), so the only thing wrong with hypermemory is the misleading description. As I understand it, most current cards and drivers are capable of using system memory textures if needed. SE, though, is not a good pair of letters to find on a graphics card, "Special Edition" generally means "Slow Edition" - with lower clockspeeds, lowered memory bus width, slower RAM, reduced pipelines or any other form of crippling.
  5. There is a workable Ankou safespot... South from the entrance, west through the next room, then get the spot on the south wall of the Ankou/Skeleton room, close to the door. It works pretty well, as they normally corner-trap if they get close, but a teleport away random ususlly drops you back in trouble, with one already at the south wall.
  6. At level 28, you could do armour stands in a Skill hall... Requirements: 1. Smithing level 68, 3 piece Mithril (no shield, with skirt), or have CW Red armour (helm, body, shield). Uses 2 Oak planks for 135 XP (bonus of 15) - armour is recovered and re-used. 2. Smithing level 88, Addy armour, or have CW Silver Uses 2 Oak planks for 150 XP (bonus 30) 3. Smithing 99, Rune, or CW Gold Armour Uses 2 Oak planks for 165 XP (bonus 45) At level 42 and 47, there are some Teak-built rcoverable item bonuses in a Quest hall. Another choice is to go with Oak flatpacking in the workshop, as you don't need to switch to construction mode... if your house is at Rimmington, consider un-noting planks at the store (sell & buy back) - could be cheaper than high level butlers, and probably faster than the lowest level item carriers.
  7. Perhaps the best way is to be equipped for revenge... some decent one handed weapons for range, no shield, and some runes to match your staff for magic, no weapon.
  8. Slowly, slowly, the official RS client assimilates the features that drew players to alternative clients. Switching? - check, the official client now has a switcher, and any permitted 3rd party switchers cannot be any more powerful. Chat channels? - check, official client now has channels. Next step, maybe, is to merge the map viewer, and have a client or client page window onto the KB, hiscore etc.
  9. Well, I'm glad I got some of the oak log "gold rush" during the construction boom, but they are now back below nomal logs. Essence mining is another possibility, as normal rune essence has made up a lot of the ground it lost when pure essence was introduced - one advantage of essence mining is that you mine a full load and don't have to worry about competition. Iron is a better price though, and no slower if you are at a good spot with several rocks to repeat round.
  10. Magic would be very bad: 1. Dragons are not good targets for magic 2. You need to carry a lot of runes. Range has other problems, as the shield forces you to use a one-handed range weapon or thrown weapons, on the other hand, if you find that cheaper self-made items are good enough, then it may be worth a shot with knives, darts, medium level crossbow & bolts. If you use the accumulator, then it will save on picking up unless you manage to block, though this also means you have to avoid using metal armour. Replacement cost of accumulator - 999 coins and 75 steel arrows. Only melee enables you to go in without risking supplies of ammunition, with just a strong weapon, good plate & legs, smith your own helm, antifire shield. If you can be bothered, cheap and/or get back items for other spots.
  11. I guess one key is "what do you use the rooms for". Some are of great use in construction training, such as flatpacking in the workshop (no need to go to and from building mode to get and use materials). If you are still in Rimmington, would un-noting at the store be cheaper than paying the butler? Not sure I like the two gardens, but I guess you do, or you wouldn't have upgraded to formal gardens - as a garden connected to a garden doesn't achieve anything, apart from being a 4 exit area that allows connection in all directions. 4 exit rooms: Garden/formal Garden - uses: entry point, dungeon stairs Quest hall, Skill hall - uses: storage, display, stair rooms
  12. The edgeville route reaches level 4 wildy, and while the ditch update added a couple of extra steps, you can now traverse from edgeville to north of the monastery before entering wilderness, avoiding the throng of edgeville pkers. You see the occasional opportunist PKer, but mostly only another mind crafter
  13. Mine as much mithril as you can, as if you blast furnace it and/or MTK for the coal instead of buying it, then when you hit 68 smithing (67 + stout), then you can make and alch mithril plates at a profit.
  14. A PC should always be switched off at the mains, or unplugged, when working on it. If you do not have an antistaticic wrist strap, then touch the bare metal of the PC case before any other parts.
  15. Maybe ffdshow? http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ffdshow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Player_Classic Mediaplayer classic
  16. The problem is rare, lucky drops. For steady, medium value drops, then an "in the room" split works fine. Ig it's a rare drop that came down on the 10th kill and you left on the 9th, then you deserve a share of the proceeds, maybe a full share, or maybe 9/10 of a share - or at the very least, a firm "IOU" for the next one. Rather than selling the item and splitting the proceeds, if the group is organized and trustworthy enough, "your turn next" for big items is another possibility. Of course, if called away without much participation, then you don't deserve much, and if killed early, It's your partners duty to collect and return any valuable items, maybe regroup and resume.
  17. Unless the vents are compromised (and using it in your lap is bad), then a laptop/notebook PC should be able to run at 100% CPU load for as long as you like... if they can make it work with a P4, they can sure as hell make it work. If Windows isn't making a good enough job of controlling the EIST, then try - http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml - set for 85% target loading (max) if you want to keep the power state low, set the target lower if you want the performance state to be raised more easily - I think the default is 50%, so it will raise/lower the performance state (multiplier and voltage) to try to keep the loading around the target value. Also has a neat little reactive tray icon that shows low, intermediate and maximum states.
  18. Rune or better armour, no problem, even with trout/salmon from the river. You could even DDS and duck into a safe spot, and let the poison do some more damage. Actually, grin if you have a hally, the safe spots might be close enough to use it.
  19. It is a problem that happens when switching off the router means it forgets which addresses it has given out. Normally: System 1 asks the router for an address, it gives the first available one, with a time limit (lease time) and remembers it. System 2, will then get the second available address. Now, if the router was turned off inbetween, it doesn't know it's alreadt given out the first address, so when the second system comes along, ythe router gives the first address again - BANG! It will naturally resolve itself when all leases have expired, otherwise you have to go to the machine that does have the address first, go to a DOS prompt, and enter: IPCONFIG / RELEASE IPCONFIG /RENEW It may also work if you use the Windows option to "repair" the connection, as that may also force it to check in with the router. Windows PC's do not always renew an IP lease if rebooted, if it is less than half used, and the connection is found to be working, then it will not be renewed.
  20. Shockingly expensive for a USB Wifi dongle - unless all kit is "rangemax", it will only work as standard 54g anyway. You'd probably be better off with a wireless router - wired to the main PC, wireless to the laptop, networking them together and feeding Internet to both. For anyone wanting truly mobile internet (UK), this is worth a look http://three.co.uk/personal/products_se ... /index.omp Just watch the limit though - 10p per meg is ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã100 per gig over limit OUCH! This is pre-launch, with 3.5G coverage to be ramped up, but this is mobile internet at prices comparable to some home packages.
  21. The wireless thing in the tray, does it flip between signal good and signal poor? Wireless signals to upstairs can be pretty horrible - try laying the router aerial down, if you are more or less over it, as it needs to be broadside to where you want most signal.
  22. Got bucketloads of randoms ranging in the SoS, Minotaurs and Ankou, usually when burying the bones (but Leo seems to be taking a break). Drill Demons and Mollys, mostly, plus a couple of exams. I also remember the Drill demon at the Aubury's rune teleport, though that seems to be holes and not much else now. I also got a lot of randoms doing clay bowls in the crafting guild, including exams. The usual triggers are: Repetition, breaking repetition (typically, they pop up when you change, or on the first hit of a repeating action). Dodging randoms you don't want is said to increase the amount you get. There seems to be one very strong and probably reliable "urban legend" - since the MoM cannot give you anything (box or other item) when your inventory is full, it is said that you will get a different random, a "take away" one instead - not sure if it must convert to a MoM takeaway (Maze/Mime/Pinball) or if it can be others. The reward for a takeaway event is dropped at your feet when you return, if you have no space.
  23. Sure, shoot me a list of questions, I think I can still remember how I went, from getting 3's in str, magic and range in tutorial and so on. My answer to getting bored with my F2P main (definitely going members soon) was to try and do things at ever lower levels, Ace of Risk being the first step down that path. I've tried to avoid connecting them until now, in case I happen to get in any bother on one.
  24. Sort of... Skeleton Fun is my Spooky suit & sceptre pure, a pure fun-runner - I had a second one with a better name "Sceptre mad", but I doubt if I'll get the same luck with fast drops again - two accounts made during the halloween event, with the idea of getting the sceptre at a low level and matching it with the outfit, having already beaten it with a level 30-something. http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/User:Ac ... Chronicle3 Part of the story there
