  1. A PSU will give as much as is needed, if you're lucky... It's rare to see budget units tested, but take a look at these shockers! http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?na ... y&reid=123 On page 3, note the creative use of grossly inadequate Axial lead diodes soldered to a pitiful heatsink in an effort to increase the load capacity. While this lame duck 350W generic measured 235W, at anything above minimal power, the ripple would be not just a technical specification failure, but probly a system crash or worse. http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?na ... ry&reid=92 A less ghastly example, an Apevia (formerly Aspire) supposedly rated 900W but regulation breaks up over 800W - as the conclusion says, call it an 800W, and it's good, call it a 900W, and it's bad. Actually, most PSUs that are not prime brand could probably do with derating by about 30% (or more) to allow for hype, one-off sample testing under ideal conditions etc. The mark of a good PSU in testing, is: 1. It delivers what it says it will 2. It keeps in spec across all reasonable load patterns (crossload test) 3. It has eaither (or both) a decent degree of overload tolerance, or a clean protection shutdown. Shutdown circuits (if present/working) tend to cover one or more of: OVP - Overvoltage protection - this would only be activating if something has gone badly wrong already. OCP - Overcurrent protection - often more hinderabce than help, if oversensitive in limiting 12V split rail drain. OPP - Overpower protection OTP - Overtemp protection Another reason for some shockingly bad units, is that some of the worst hark back to the days when most of the action was on the 5V, and all the 12V did was run fans and drive motors.
  2. The 4350 and 4550 are also pretty light on power usage http://forums.atomicmpc.com.au/index.php?showtopic=264 The 3450 is down as 18-36W, so it would appear that the HD4350, 4550 and possibly even 4650 might be acceptable
  3. Pretty sure you still get tokens even if you were of no help. One thing you do get, is essence for every orb that you actually help to pot - one reason to favour use memders if you are one, as you can craft the freebie into higher runes.
  4. There are a few routers that can run a 3G modem dongle - that would be the ideal solution
  5. I had a glidepad (finger pad) and a mouse, and either could shift the pointer or click - you could also use a tracker ball and a mouse, for things that need thrashing speed or finer control. If an exact postition device (tablet) is active, it will hold the pointer in position - a mistake which can be made if you leave the pen on the tablet and try to use the mouse.
  6. Also helps if you have the explorer ring, as the bonus runes also give bonus exp. Another tip, if robbing imps turns up in this year's Christmas event, save the air talismans, as each can be used with a tiara for 5x the exp of a rune (well, 2.5x, if you consider the two space requirement - so a single run of tiaras equal 2 1/2 runs of runes). You get a LOT of normal imp junk if the robbing imps thing is used.
  7. Not sure the Great Orb project works in the context it is mentioned - if you made and used enough runes to get to GOP, you would have quite a mage level.
  8. Another possibility, if you get runecrafting up to 50... Do some Great Orbing, and trade the tokens for Air teleports. The order of play then is: Wear air tiara, wield pickaxe, wear brown apron, wear Explorer ring. Carry 1 air tele, fill the rest up with ess, then use the air tele. Make air runes, then go northwest to crafting guild, mine, then cabbageport and walk to Draynor, repeat. You could forget the ess/air bit, but it only costs you one space.
  9. I guess the ideal way to use it for xp is to get tokens and spend them on RC teletabs. The returm trip can be made by cabbageport (not that great), home teleport (once per 30 min), RC guild teletab (you can mine using Sedridor in the basement, but you cannot bank).
  10. There is one F2P chore, if you have the explorer ring at level 2 or better: 30 free low alchs per day, free mage training. Good items to dispose of are Willow logs or hard leather bodies, or any other item you make/gather which has a non-zero value and no significant market. If you just want the free mage xp, then pick of any old rubbish (the market for ash crashed) and zap it with the ring.
  11. For all the clothing randoms, anyone with half a set and wanting to collect the rest would howl if it was removed. The maze is an excellent payout if you are half decent at getting round, generally not worth bothering with the chests unless you are passing right by.
  12. Take from the "both" box, since it cannot be both, label it as whatever comes out. Now label the other box as the opposite, and the both label on the one that's left.
  13. Pot luck, and they are not tradable, though from what has been mentioned, it sounds like ther residents of one town may forget you already did them after you have left it... must try that, as I think I have done pretty much everyone I can find.
  14. Zero weight random items are a good idea, if you are banking, then it helps if your outfit is as light as possible. On the same vein, the perfect ring for many skiller-bankers is the explorers ring, 3x 50% run recharges every day is quite a bonus. The Runecrafting staff (any kind) is pretty rare on F2P - I guess on P2P, you'd have to go for an Omni! As you are P2P, Ghostly robes are another possibility, cheap and being semi-invisible is not bad, maybe pair with some odd items like a skull scepter, runecrafting staff, and maybe the mind shield.
  15. Air rune crafting: I tried Draynor bank - cabbage - Air altar - cabbage - Draynor bank, and it seemed to be a little quicker than going from Falador. Another tip, from equipped, the teleport has an interruptible dialog, but from Inventory, it can be held ready on a right click menu which is not interruptible.
  16. Unless a laptop is designed with a replaceable graphics slot (expensive) to take an upgrade (probably manufacturer specific and EXPENSIVE), then you cannot upgrade graphics. One thing that may be worth a try for a R7000 mobile IGP, getting the "old card" Radeon Drivers - http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/r ... 00-xp.html And patching them with DriverHeaven's Mobility Modder - http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php No guarantees, I'd suggest setting a restore point in case they screw up, and there might not be any more performance to be had.
  17. No point buying stuff on the GE to bulk your value (unless it's rising), as you may as well just carry the coins.
  18. FoG Mage Robes (either sort) require 10 defence, though if you are wearing Rune, that is not an issue. If you don't want to FoG enough tokens to buy the robes, then buy them uncharged on the exchange, and then just FoG for tokens to charge them, alternativly, the set or parts can be used uncharged with lower stats and no bonus effects. The Runecrafter Robes have a requirement of 50 runecrafting to obtain. Mage sets, part sets and compromise sets: The standard F2P mage robes are really only a 2 piece set (hat and top), you would normally finish the set with harmless pieces like a normal cape, boots and gloves, or possibly the Stronghold of player safety gloves, and leather chaps. For a part set, you could use an uncharged FoG bottom. FoG robes are a 3 part set: hat, top and bottom, so fill out the rest with harmless (no mage penalty) items. Add the Runecrafter robe gloves if you can. Runecrafter Robes are a 4 piece set: hat, top, bottom and gloves, and probably the best looking mage kit. Available in 3 colours, though not compelling you to support a particular wizard in GoP. You do not wear your own hat in the GoP minigame, as you are given the one which matches the Wizard you chose or were assigned to.
  19. For every 75 tokens earned in FoG, you can buy gloves that double the xp for 1000 ess (available: air, water, earth, requiring 10, 20 or 30 RC to use). If you can earn 75 tokens faster than you can make 35 rune runs, then Fogging is the way to go.
  20. How about a talisman staff? If there is one thing that says "runecrafter", it is the staff, as at 10000 GOP tokens, it ain't cheap (full RC robes are only 4000), and it's not the most useful of items.
  21. When you see 50% on a Dual core or even a Hyperthreaded P4, what it usually means is that something is actually on 100%, seen as 50% as it is bouncing between the two cores or threads. Something can either be genuinely using 100% - some antiviruses seem to do this if a lot of files pass through the on-access scanner in a short time, or can be in a useless runaway state.
  22. Keep watching the GE prices, to keep track of low level money earners. Cows = Bones, Hide, Raw Beef Giant Rats = Bones, raw rat meat Stronghold of security: Level 1 rats brop bones - ONLY at this location, L1 rats elsewhere drop nothing. Minotaurs = arrow breeders, range them over fences and then sell the surplus, plus you get bones
  23. Alway double check the mounting posts when fitting a motherboard, a misplaced post can scrape or short a track. A more basic one, it is better not to use USB powered fans, cleaners, lights, aquariums, cup warmers, chargers etc. as many of them do not comply with USB specifications and may draw more power than is safely available from the port.
  24. You have prayer points to fix one grave in a random act of kindness, which one would you use them on, the one that cost 500k, or the one that cost 50k ? Also significant in F2P, as if you see the 5k Ornate gravestone, you know someone actually cares about getting stuff back. Unless the equipment you carry is going to worth less than the gravestone, ALWAYS invest in the best.
  25. They are semi-useful as a no-penalty item for a mage, but that's about it. With 50 runecraft, the runecrafter kit is better for a F2P pure mage.
