  1. Resistor is close, but if each of the 4 bulbs will run at 2.25V (1/4 of the 9v), then you could have a 2.7V Zener diode across each, to complete the circuit with a little more votage drop - NB. if the supply voltage exceeded 10.4V, the string of zeners would conduct and overload. Not sure if they are available in 2.4V versions (for less voltage loss on bulb fail, but a supply voltage maximum of only 9.6V).
  2. Seems a worrying move, and a pointless and irritating one on their part. If you're here, then you already know about runescape, and probably Funorb too, and you either like them or you don't. As for adservers, I've always considered google's to be the least hostile, as it doesn't seem to be possible for it to directly serve a "bad ad", unlike many of the other garbage shovellers - I reserve particular venom for tribalfusion and a few others, due to their dismal quality of ads - any ad service that gives me popunders or suspicious download attempts hits my "block with absolute prejudice" list - going in firewall "bad sites" rather than any adblocker. As for the Gold / cheating etc. sites, I'd like to think they are blocked not just because Jagex say they should be, but because we think they are bad. I can't see the ad deal working, even if it's pure cpm, they will be expecting a certain ratio of clickthroughs, and much as we like runescape, I'm sure we'd be more likely to click to take a glance at another MMO, or (and maybe this is Jagex's point), a casual game at , say, Miniclip instead of Funorb.
  3. Bolt with Chaos gauntlets is fractionally less powerful than a blast, but a lot cheaper. If using death runes on members though, there are better spells than fire blast - Iban or magic (slayer) dart.
  4. For anyone that likes Chrome but isn't as keen on Google: There is SrWare Iron (based on Chromium source) http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_chrome_vs_iron.php Subtracts the google tracking junk, and adds an ad-blocker.
  5. The GE, and sometimes lumbrige autotypers are getting to be ridiculous, any decent PMOD with half a brain should be able to tell the difference between a level 3 spambot for a merch clan, and somebodt trying to run their own bank sale. This abuse needs to be squashed, pronto!
  6. Well, 3 god colour tents would be a classic team assembly area... join Sara, join Zammy, or take pot luck with Guthix. Maybe the new skill will actually be a new minigame as well. The only thing that doesn't sit well with this being the new skill area, is that the new skill is not specifically combat, and siting a non-combat area in the wilderness seems odd. Is this really the new skill area, or is it going to be part of a Fremmenik quest? Everybody is plugging it as the new skill zone, but even that is surely not a given!
  7. It seems this is a glitch relating to the update, and may now be fixed.
  8. It's more about control, than security. Every firewall worth the name, or your router, will control incoming requests, stealth ports etc. The big thing in most firewalls now is "anti-leak", stopping malicious software that has already been allowed onto your system (so also, an antimalware issue) from communiction by sneaky methods. NB. Prevention of a leaktest by signature detection (unwanted program) is not considered to be a leaktest pass. To be honest, the main point in using an "outgoing" firewall, is to trap semi-legit stuff that "phones home" without permission.
  9. http://www.sony.co.uk/comparison/nwzs545b.cew/nwzs639fb.ce7 On the site they call the first one a Walkman video as well, the secend one has a smaller screen, and a few extra features such a "SenseMe" mood selection, and a longer battery life in video mode, but $40 more. Now if you want to play movies on it.... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855501019 Original price $279.99 , now $139.99 Big screen, 30GB capacity, and Wifi Not really a pocket player though!
  10. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883259 If the device is not recognized, you may be able to force the use of the generic driver http://www.techenclave.com/mobile-phones/bluetooth-drivers-needed-win-xp-sp3-127559.html http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841803/ The supported set of IDs is rather limited, I guess the first step would be to try searching for a driver using Windowsupdate.
  11. Windows has it's own bluetooth stack (a bit better in Vista and 7 than in XP), so if the device has no software or trial software, maybe you can learn to like the Windows native Bluetooth support. The "micro" style of dongle can be insanely cheap. http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-USB-Micro-Adapter-Dongle/dp/B0026SKZO0/ref=tag_dpp_lp_edpp_ttl_in_f with unlicenced Bluesoleil! - better to ignore that and let Windows support handle it.
  12. First time you enter a PvP world, you should get a PvP worlds manual with some basic info In another change to PvP Worlds, all players are skulled and protect item is not available. If you wish to keep your most expensive item, there are Bounty hunter +1 worlds, where it acts as if protect item is in effect. Drops are CALCULATED, not the kills items, though factors such as the value risked by you and your kill do come into it, as does another figure - Earning Potential - gained by being out of a safe zone (faster in a hot zone), so long as you have a minimum risk or 25k (F2P) or 75k (P2P) - noted items do not count! Players would "safe hit" each other with a fun weapon to stay locked in single combat while gaining EP, or cast wind strikes in armour - this will no longer gain EP - higher spells will, or a bronze dagger, Bounty hunter worlds have restricted locations - Wilderness, Edgeville, Grand exchange If you kill your assigned bounty, there is a bonus to the drop.
  13. If you absolutely do not want to use mobile internet (other than Wifi), then maybe you can alter/delete the mobile access settings on the phone, and just leave the WiFi
  14. Didn't they change it so that agility no longer counts in F2P? - Ah , missed the other answer, anyway, have a reference to be certain: http://www.runescape.com/kbase/guid/agility_faq Ok so don't bother with that, unless you need it for your stint in P2P. Minigames and going for clues, I guess. Might want to build a small house (to level 42), then install a flatpack costume box to store random event sets that you do not want to drop (but you won't be able to get them back in F2P).
  15. Sailing quests, rework the balloon ones, so you have to navigate a path by running with the wind, tacking. Maybe dwarf quests could open up construction of a steamship. Summoning familiars for sailing: Seagull (eye in the sky) Parrot Dolphin Great white shark (unlocks a theme tune  ) any opposing crew falling in the water will be eaten and looted Killer whale
  16. It's murder finding any of the characters, even the yellow dot gets swamped out. 1. Wander madly finding your imp 2. Can't find the bad guy 3. Can't find who you have to speak to 4. Now the sequence puzzle, that is clever when you know the trick, and I'll give a very obtuse clue... Think of Ron Gad from "the adventure game".
  17. No advantage, but it would be nice if event capes had the same stats as ordinary ones. One holday item does have positive stats, the scythe, all the other wieldables are non-weapons or fun weapons (extreme negative stats).
  18. Sheer luck, and for some parts, you do need to check the pile, as they can hide under the bones. For Minotaurs - either safespot them with range over fences, and use their own arrow drops to keep going, or just melee them. Crawlers - there are a few trapping spots, but unless you are weak, melee is king here. Catablepons - in the northwest is a rocksolid safespot, best to use range. Ankou - there is a difficult safespot (mage them, can crumble undead) or use the Ankou only room to melee.
  19. Revenants are like the fully equipped hybrid tank PKer from hell, except a very stupid, very patient one that cannot run. If you think you have outrun one, don't hang around in an unsafe zone, as it is probably still following you
  20. Not the same as the Runscape model, as progress beyond the free capabilties in RS is by one means only, subscription. The model is closer to the "item buy" model of many of the far eastern MMOs
  21. Been using Metaproducts Download Express for ages - used to be the free taster for something else, now still free but has additional Pro features if bought. The main advantages of the better accelerators are: Multi-streaming, though I have this set to 2 or 3, many servers will ONLY let you get away with two. Speed throttling - often YOU want to do this, in order to carry on browsing / online gaming. Resume function - the best reason for NOT using a bog-standard browser download. A few can manage the really clever trick of multi-mirror multi-streaming, searching for other sources, but the only ones that can are either buy or stinking adware,
  22. For a "perfect" F2P Rune pure, you'll have to take on Elvarg in Addy armour, at 33 defence. For a P2P, there are a few other defence giving quests, and possibly the Zerker (45 def) works better thanrune, due to the strength bonus from the helm. viewtopic.php?t=703844 - Zerker pure guide In essence though, deduct all the quest given defence from your target defence experience level, and then train no higher.
  23. The I-plate, of course, is only applicable if there is a wired extension attached to the half plate. Where the ADSL is taken from the face plate, best to use a replacement filter faceplate, keeping the ADSL off the extension wiring altogether. If you have an "up to 8" and are only getting 2 or less, it's also worth checking that you have not missed out a microfilter. Every device that is not the ADSL modem, must pass through the "phone" side of a microfilter, this includes extension bells, burglar alarms, Sky box, caller display unit etc. You can use splitters after a microfilter, but too many splits may weaken the bell signal. There have also been some defective microfilters, typically of the plug in rather than rat tailed design: Tehkal/Origo ASL 2019 Fake D-Link DSL-20MF (the real one is a rat-tailed) http://www.adslnation.co.uk/support/filters.php The ring wire is connected through the filter, losing most of the isolation. The basic construction of the filter is: ADSL feed connects straight though. Chokes/coils/ferrite cores prevent the ADSL leaking away to the phone side. Parallel capacitor completes the filtering of ADSL from the phone side, while another capacitor is used to provide the ringer feed, not using the original ring wire.
  24. Nero now has a basic free version! http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero9-free.php
  25. Cards are available in AGP, but the situation for drivers is a little shaky. An AGP version of the ATI HD4650 is avaialble, but the only drivers are the ones from Diamond, as ATI do not officially support the 4000 series in AGP (and the HD2000/3000 series only by "hotfix" drivers that come out a little later than the main ones). For a motherboard upgrade, I would not recommend trying to hang on to a S478 CPU, there are a couple of boards that would take S478 and have PCI-E, but you'd still have to replace the memory with DDR2. Remember, you cannot compare current Core 2 based CPUs (and even the "Pentium E1000" series is core 2 based, just a bit thin on cache), on a clock for clock basis with the old P4's, it would be like comparing a 486 with a Pentium.
