  1. Thinking aloud, must be getting time for a low level F2P range boot... Stronghold of security = Melee boots Gunnars Ground = Mage boots
  2. If members is paid for anyway, then you'll get more XP or coins (usually) by spending the same amount of time there as in F2P, so may as well use it
  3. Oh no! - they nerfed the XP, as people were gaining huge XP. And now, 19th August, they nerfed the infinite moneybank - blast. Wonder if they left any other runes still profitable?
  4. You want a player with glitz, glam, plugins, and free? http://www.quinnware.com/ Quintessential Player. I'll pick a couple of skins: http://www.quinnware.com/skins.php?skin=377 - MP4 player skin http://www.quinnware.com/skins.php?skin=371 - LCARS - for the Trekkies Plenty more...
  5. Think of defence as a tool for better equipment, so know the equipment you care to use. With 44 prayer, maybe Initiate/proselyte for the prayer bonus. The key point though, you cannot go BACK to being a 1 def pure, and at the moment, you could possibly go for more prayer to use defensively - prayer levels add least to combat level - half as much as defence does.
  6. Seems to be a good one, though some forum posts suggest otherwise (unreliability, not getting "Open" NAT with XBOX). One tip if you like this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000Z7AKGC?tag=hushedcasket-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=B000Z7AKGC&adid=03TX08CHBCV9J8BWH9ZW Amazon's "can't tell you until you look" price is $144.99 - quite a saving! Complete overkill if using wired though. The DLINK DIR-655 also seems to be well regarded, and considerably cheaper. Best to get from somewhere with a good retuns policy, as the reports for every model seem to be variable - in some cases, it's down to firmware and hardware revisions. http://www.unofficialguidetolive.co.uk/equipment According to this site, "Works with Windows Vista", also describes routers with the style of NAT that is friendly to XBOX, gaming and some other PC apps. The other router which gets consderable recommendation is the old WRT54G (Or newer GL Linux models) with the firmware changed to DD-WRT or Tomato.
  7. If you have a soundblaster card based on the EMU10k chipset, then the KX drivers, mixer and routing may provide enough flexibilty, not seen anything else which has anything other than "choose one input" for recording
  8. Hard to tell exactly, but it looks like any router that supports XBOX Live will have the right kind of NAT, as XBOX Live requires "Cone NAT" rather than symmetric. Other phrases to look for are "gaming mode", which is often another name for a mode with less restrictive NAT.
  9. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WRT54G/Age_of_Empires_II.htm Apply port forwarding, and you will not b constrained by NAT. Ok, no forwarding - if not on together, then it may be possible to find "triggerring" rules that assign temporary port forwards to whichever user is active. And check the version of that WRT54G, if it's one that OpenWRT can be installed on, then that is another possible alternative - heavy going though, compared to the friendly face of most webconfigs. Maybe it was DD-WRT I was thinking of - easier config, and DD-WRT is capabale of getting to "OPEN" NAT for the very fussy XBOX Live, if UPNP is enabled. Do a LOT of reading before attempting router firmware swaps - if you have a decent firmware replaceable version of the WRT54g, it would be a shame to brick it, as it is the granddaddy of of alternataive firmware routers - everyone builds for it as a base. Even the VXworks firmwared versions can potentially be switched to to DD-WRT Micro, by a multi-step process. http://www.wrtrouters.com/guides/upgradetolinux/
  10. Are you using "upgrade" media? If so, then do not wipe first, while XP cannot be directly upgraded, it needs to validate first, otherwise you'll end up having to use one of the workarounds for clean install using upgrade media. Depending on how old the Graphics card disk is, it may be better to download a more recent driver from ASUS, or the latest Catalyst from ATI. Also worth checking out the site for the motherboard - http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1839 For the Realtek Sound driver, I'd stick with the maker, for branding and maybe particular features in the settings panel, but for the ethernet, I'd be inclined to look for very latest at Realtek, same for the Intel and JMB ones, though the site4 is actually pretty well up to date. Some motherbaord support downloads can be disgracefully outdated compared to the drivers for their components, and usually any customization is purely cosmetic.
  11. With "quick prayer" you can also select a group of prayers, such as bringing an attack and a strength prayer into play at once. If you are hitting easily, then using the attack prayer is a waste of points. To summarize, The "Attack" prayers result in an invisible boost to your attack stat (any melee attack style), which does stack with the visible boost of an attack potion. The "Strength" prayers increase strength, and possibly max hit. The range prayers boost range, and may increase ranged hit (depending on level and hit of the ammunition you use) The mage prayers DO NOT increase mage hit, only mage accuracy. The 5, 10 and 15% versions of each prayer are exclusive, and the point usage doubles with each, so 1 prayer point lasts 12 seconds at 5%, 6 at 10% and only 3 at 15%, and combining prayers further increases that drain. Wearing equipment with prayer bonus lowers the rate of prayer drain. If you use prayer at all, the "protect from" are often the most useful against strong monsters who's attacks can be prayed against.
  12. 7-Zip may have some good compression methods, but almost no space can be saved on already compressd audio and video - in fact, even uncompressed WAV audio does not compress very well in most file compressors, unless they have a specific detected or selected "multimedia mode". General purpose data file compression is lossless, so it makes no difference what kind of files you put in - except that some will compress a lot, others won't.
  13. Tough question, complexity 1 is perhaps good for rushing, as you can equip and go, and also and advantage if you do not have the supporting skills. Probably little reason to do anything other than 1 or 6. Always be on a prestige run, that means when you cannnot do the next floor, you reset progress and then repeat all floors from 1. Bind a good item, for F2P melee, this will normally be a fractite weapon, as you can usually do a few rooms with weapon but no armour. For range, you could bind a bow, but even on C6, it seems you usually get a decent bow as one of the table items - if that's the case, may be better to bind the body armour. Also, bind some arrows. For mage, it's difficult, as the ammunition bind only keeps 125 of a single rune. If you are happy with a water staff, then bind a piece of armour, but as the water staff is the only one you can make, if you want to use any other, you'll have to bind it. Sharp tactic, do complexity 1 and see what staff you get, bail out and then repeat until you get the one you want (F2P best = Catalytic - doesn't provide any runes, but increases damage) With 50 runecrafting (not sure where the breakpoint is), you can make a profit on air runes, but selling them at 50 per action is slow. The other thing, are you good at rushing?
  14. Wow, that's HOT. And yes, I's say a Geforce 5500 suggests AGP, and quite likely not enough power supply to run medium-high cards. The Geforce 6200 can be found pretty cheap in AGP, is considerably superior to the 5500 and does not have huge power requirements. Fitting fans in spare case fan positions would be a good idea, many cases have a spare postion at the back (extract) and a postion in the front panel assembly (intake). Poor case cooling means high CPU temperature, especially if the heatsink is not the best. Also, replacing the CPU heatsink, taking care to clean off the old paste and apploy new if the heatsink does not have pre-applied paste or thermal interface. The Arctic Freezer 7 Pro is a popular "workhorse" heatsink, and supports most modern sockets, though if your Intel is the older Socket 478, you'll need something that supports that.
  15. There was talk about this earlier, think it was deleted though, sounds like it was true and is now live then. N ot sure how long the campaign will be running for, guess I should get set up to try it in case it;s only short term.
  16. Some very good points, time spent on a cheap / free training method, versus time saved on a more expensive but faster method and time taken on your best moneymaker to pay for it. Mining pure essence? - minimum 30 mining, lets call it 31 so you have at least an addy pick, as with a good pick and mining level, you fill a pack really quick, no hunting for rocks, no aggro with other miners! http://www.runescoop.com/html/rs_TheRuneScoopDynamicMoneymakingGuideforRuneScape.htm Some good info there! NB. If you are not a site member, the prices are 3 days old, so watch out for market collapses Actually, granite is given as the top mining method, but pure ess is better than quite a few other materials. Making pie shells is a top method in many charts, but is vulnerable to overproduction and undersupply of the raw materials, which may make some of the earlier steps worth trying, though at the moment, you lose out a little in profit per inventory, but then, if there is no pastry dough to buy, or no pie dishes, then you have to find other sources - and hope the pie shell price also pushes upward. Also, many of the methods suggest using either a beast of burden familiar (where there are things to be carried) or a foraging familiar to generate resources

Learned manual, but have an automatic and wouldn't ever want to go back.. Does anyone lament the loss of the manual choke, now it's automatic on most cars? Why have another control that's only to do with getting around the limitations of the technology. One other thing though, tried CVT and hated it, now maybe the car was a much abused demonstrator, but the pickup point for the stopping clutch was just so wooly, you either didn't know when it would pick up, or you got a jolt. I gather there are some CVT's that can go to zero drive without needing a declutching system.
  18. Oh the good old days, when you could camp the general store in Varrock and compete to snap up the interesting stuff that turned up. Maybe they should add a "bazaar" feature to the exchange, where things could be puty on a list to randomly cycle through a shop display.
  19. Mostly self-sufficient, particularly in food - doesn't take that long to grind to 40 fishing & cooking (F2P). Higher level armour and runes, bought.
  20. Well, the old bank stacking tip seems to still be applicable, though it seems that one thing changed, members items banked do not count against F2P space limit - no matter though, as you can still create an F2P super-bank using placeholders. To sum up, anything that you may want to bank after going F2P, must already have a placeholder - this includes the various minigame tokens! (FoG, GoP, Dungeoneering), so do a round and bank at least 1 token. Items in various states of completion. Any armour, you need a spare set to placehold, and if you want to take out and put away a rare, you need TWO!
  21. I'm guessing bias could be a preset, adjust on a low signal to avoid cutout - if the control trim range is too sharp, then add a 100k resistor to each end - it may work just as well if you leave out the bias trim and the 1M resistor, as the CMOS inverter input should be pulled into the linear range anyway - if it acts as a "noise gate" on quiet signal, then try adding the bias control, or if you want it to noise gate, use the bias control and take it some way off centre. And definitely, try the assymetric setup of 1 and 2 diodes, that should give an extra zing as it shifts from one sided clipping to two sided - or you could try one silicon and one germanium diode. The CMOS IC is a 4049AE in the original - a 4049UB or UBE should be ok, but avoid "BE" CMOS for linear applications, as they require unbufferred. http://www.key2study.com/elogic.pdf NB. Doesn't matter that the device is referred to as an inverting buffer, what matters is that the particular architecture is "unbufferred", as B or BE CMOS does not work well in linear use.
  22. My guess is that tone and bias would be linear, otherwise all the control will be at one end. The others, audio or log law if you want them variable, but it looks like the ones with a "*" setting are meant to be preset trimmers, when you generally don't have a choice - never seen presets in anththing other than linear.
  23. For many players, a remote code can be found which will allow de-regioning - some disks attempt to defeat this using other measures - "Region Code Enhanced" - RCE. For the drive in the computer, there may also be workarounds to eliminate the "defective by default" behaviour, from firmware hacks, tricks to allow unlimited resets etc. RPC1 is an old hack, taking the region control away from the drive, and bringing software control (unsupported in Win7) into action unless also blocked. RPC1 seems to be pretty irrelevant anyway, as it seems there are software tools that can work with a wrong region RPC2 drive (SOME drives). Best hack is "RPC2 autoreset", as it gives the impression that the hardware is making the region switch, but does not consume a change. There is another tool that may assist, DVD43 - the exact provenance is uncertain, and there is a free one and a non-free.
  24. Maybe cut scenes should be voiced, as it would move things along more smoothly if you didn't have to keep stepping the dialogue forward. It would be nice to have a choice of just voice (and no stepping), just text, or voice and text
  25. http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=6186&tag=nl.e540 Java 6 Update 20 does not specifically mention this fix, but it does fix the issue.
