The summoning monsters seem very useful at higher levels. Hitting regular 10+ at 20-30 summoning is quite a help when you consider what type of damage the higher levels could do, not even considering the special. This could help a lot with various aspects of the game, and the stat could easily pay for itself. It just seems that people get annoyed with the lower levels. Cross that bridge, and summoning becomes useful. :

I'll agree with that. I was a range hater until I reached about level 80. After that it seemed useful, and now I actually enjoy it. If you do decide to train it, I would suggest training with knives. They are relatively cheap, and fast. It can really make the levels speed by. Some might also suggest a cannon, but I personally think that it is not worth it's cost. Have fun with all the stats. You may as well train it now. Unless of course you are at a disadvantage with your stats. I myself am slightly annoyed that fire giants drop charms. I've been training there from 78-98 range, and I am almost 99.. then we get this. :o They're often full now, and people tend to get angry when I kill 2 before they kill one. There also seems to be some people who half-kill the giants, then leave them so they get the charm drop when another person kills. It's enough to make a person think about killing 2 giants at a time to scare everyone away. :roll: Anyways, now that I harped my story, I would suggest training now. Kill a monster that you can kill effectively and quickly. That is how you'll gain the most advantage from charm drops. Have fun.

I'm curious.. why not range? It's not like it will effect your combat level as if they are all equal, you will be melee dominant. The only effect range would have is more HP levels, which is combined with defence for combat levelling, so it would not have a great effect. If it's just something along the lines of you not liking range, then that is understandable.

Nice find. It could be effective in the lower levels, unless of course with the reduction of shard prices comes a reduction of the high alch value. :roll: At higher levels your monsters would likely pay for themselves with their specials. At lower levels the monsters seem somewhat useless, so this could really aid low-level training of summoning.

I believe the quest required 56 agility, so you should be fine. Thanks for the confirmation on the potions effect. :)

I'll go with magic or range. Magic would be most useful if you plan to skill after. Range is useful if you plan to monster kill. Both are great stats to have at 99, and both are buyable. Good luck. Enjoy your skill cape. :

Fire giants drop gold, crimson, green and blue. That is also the order of how common they drop those types. However, fire giants do not drop obsidian charms. You'd have to go to the Karamja Volcano if you would like those. Also, the fire giants drop these charms in sets of (1).

If my memory serves, that will get you the required level. I used an agility potion when I did the quest. The only problem is I forget how much the potion increases your agility. I believe it is +3, so you should be ok. Wait for another reply to confirm before you attempt it. Also, be sure the potion is at least a (4) dose because I think you need to pass the obstacle a few times.

I would go with the rune xbow and addy bolts. This way you could wield the zammy book at all times, and thus save an inventory spot, since msb doesn't allow a shield and weapon. :)

My advice would be to train everything. : If you like a low combat with higher non-combats you could do something along the lines of a tank, or pure. These stats are with 99 to give you an idea. I'm not suggesting that you must train these stats to 99. Tank Att- 99 Str- 60 Def- 99 HP- 99 Mage- 99 Range- 99 Pray- 11 Summon- 1 You'd be under 100 combat with these stats I believe. Every 8 prayer or summon levels is 1 combat, if you would like to add more. Pure Att- 75 Str- 99 Def- 45 HP- 99 Mage- 99 Range- 99 Pray- 52 Summon- 1 These stats would also be under 100 combat. Just the same, every 8 prayer or summon levels is 1 combat level. If you have a particular level you would like to stay under while skilling, I suggest that you insert values into the combat calculator until you find something you like. You can also use the xp tables to calculate what your HP level would be. : Sorry, but I can't give you the links to the calculator and xp table. I am currently on a computer that blocks Tip.it. I would wait a week or so until most people have achieved a higher summoning level. After that, players will be satisfied with their level, and ready to experiment. We should have some uses before the second wave, hopefully.

Black dragons would likely have a higher drop rate since they are a higher level. Although, irons are quite easy to kill, so they may be the most cost effective method if your stats are lower. Good luck. :

I am currently getting about half as many at the Fire Giants that I was earlier. Although.. half of 90% is still 45%, so I am getting quite a few charms, regardless. :

I don't believe I see a single shard, but maybe I have poor sight. I see some charms, although very few. I have 98-99 range to go at fire giants, and have gotten nearly 100 charms in about 40k xp. Nearly every giant dropped a charm. Mainly gold, but some red/green, and the odd blue.

Also, the dogs cost 500gp, and eat raw meat. :

It always takes a few weeks for the ability to use these methods to train a brand new skill. I myself am waiting for Tears of Guthix so I can get it to 45 for free. From there on out it'll be a money sink. :roll:

Are there actual beetles in-game now to use? I haven't been able to try summoning yet, but if there are beetles, and it says "beetle bits", possibly try using a tool on the beetles. A knife, hammer, or mortar & pestle may work. :

Would someone like to explain what charms do? I can't check the Knowledge Base or play Runescape for about 8 hours. I am currently training 98-99 range at the Fire Giants, so if charms have a general use, it could be very, very useful. Thanks in advance. :

It costs me about $5 per month for membership. I consider that to be nothing along the lines of costs. Most online games are 5 times that price, monthly. If you don't like it, you can always be a free player..

I haven't tried summoning yet, but I would bet that is the reason for the price rise. Maybe go kill some, bank, and take advantage of the extra cash. The first week of a big release such as a new skill is an ideal time to make profits off of the people who like to race to 99, even though it is generally more costly to train it during the first week.

I trained on Moss Giants at the Moss Giant Island in Western Brimhaven until 78 range. I then went to fire giants, and have been there for most of 78-98, doing a few levels at black and metal dragons. I am currently at the fire giants, rune arrow training. Get 70+ range, and come join me. : I suggest taking high alchs and a chisel to the Moss Giants. Most of the drops stack, so you can stay there for a relatively long time. Good luck.
