  1. +1. Adding slayer to combat level is easily the dumbest idea on the table here. Nah, I think adding skills like Fletching and Runecrafting would be dumber. At least slayer allows you to kill more things with combat...a whole like...30 things  (geez, you guys really like to insult people too much just because they had an odd idea, you can try being a little nicer about things...instead of flat out calling them dumb...) By "on the table," I meant "on the table." The poll cites it as one of the tertiary skills.

  3. Way too complicated to be practical. At a certain point you just have to accept that combat level is not a perfect representation of combat potential and move on, because any attempt by Jagex to accurately assess the advantage of every single aspect of a player and calculate a level is going to be just as flawed as the much simpler and less irritating system we have now. To fix pures, make defense level add significant damage soaking/reduction so that a player with defense has an actual advantage over one without. That's the only adjustment that needs to be made, in my eyes.
  4. It's not so much how well, but how often... The way Nex moves a lot Steel Titan wouldn't be viable for nearly all her phases. By the time the steel titan has a chance to attack Nex she's across the map. A BoB / Uni would be so much more beneficial over a BoB / Titan. A steel titan spec has longer range then any style of combat a player can use. If you're able to hit nex, your titan will be able to as well, at least with it's spec. But the biggest challenge with familiar combat is getting the damn thing attacking in the first place, and every time Nex teleports everyone loses aggro. You'd have to run back into range, call the titan, click familiar attack on Nex, and then click the spec. By the time you finish all that, she'll have almost certainly have teleported again. Also, steel titan specs are very inaccurate, only really good on low defense monsters like TDs. I can't see it hitting over 0 very often at all on Nex. The extra healing from uni is waaaay better.
  5. elys and disks are pratically worth nothing. I've already seen too many purp + ely/disk for pure cash. To be fair, purp is hurting badly as well- it's really close to GE price.
  6. Yeah, for team Arma I'm pretty sure spectral (or maybe eagle eye for the ranged bonus) is supposed to be best, coming in slightly ahead of ely. In a 4+ team for Arma, though, I just bring void with deflector and arma plate because I get hit so ridiculously little. For DKs, seems like the frequency of food drops and the amount of soul split you can pull off, especially on rex, would make brewing too low to use magic pretty rare. I haven't done a lot of tribridding though so I don't really know.
  7. Lol pretty unfair, the guy with divine was also using the equivalent of a bronze dagger compared to that rapier.
  8. Winkies are a Jagex staple. All Jagex exployees go through a training that includes teaching them to use winkies constantly for all situations. They're the perfect combination of smug condescension and not taking things seriously.
  9. the calculations were meant to give an idea of how rounding error affects divine. Ultimately the amount of LP saved and extra prayer expended for divine and elysian is the primary factor. It's just silly of you to propose all these extreneous factors and claim that they somehow disprove other calculations. My point remains the same either way. You have yet to contribute anything nontrivial to this thread green. Anybody can point out obvious details. If I wanted someone to do that for me I'd go ask a 6 year old. If you can't provide data, non-trivial calculations, etc. You know, anything that is in low supply. You're just being a waste. OP demonstrates that the gap between divine and elysian in healing/inventory slot is narrow, and concludes just based on that that ely is almost as good as divine. I point out that he missed all of the factors that make divine really good, and his conclusion is incorrect. I fail to see how this doesn't contribute- I'm telling people to think deeper about this before they run out and buy an ely because hey some guy on TIF says it's almost as good as a divine for 1/3 the price!
  10. math is invalid because it doesn't account for all the details? math never accounts for all the details. People use it anyways though. Because it's useful even if it doesn't account for all the details. stop trolling, you have no idea what you're talking about. It's invalid because it doesn't even scratch the surface of what the advantage of a divine is. It's like doing math proving that you can get more rocktails per hour fishing than dragon claws per hour killing TDs, and then concluding that fishing for cash is at least as good as TDs based on that, completely ignoring the prices of the items. Divine's advantage is not its superior healing per slot- that's a really small part of it. If your math takes only that into account, you've entirely missed the point. Your rocktail-dclaw analogy is out of the ball park. Look, math can rarely provide a perfect model. Assumptions were listed with the calculation. so you can do one of the following: a) improve on the calculations b) use the model in a way that compensates for its weaknesses and assumptions c) interpret the results in a way that give intuitive value. You've accomplished none of the above. So the bottom line is nothing you said thus far is constructive. You mean I'm not allowed to point out that the math is about nothing related to the conclusion unless I know how to make a better model (which I have no idea how to do)? Cool. This math is still useless regardless of your rules, though. Edit at the above: In practice that's pretty difficult to do, especially since you're most likely going to be letting yourself get down very near KO range and then quickly brewing back up if you hit it. I'm not saying a good player can't do it sometimes, but it's unreasonable to expect that to happen all the time. Divine also gives you a much, much larger buffer for both what constitutes kill range and how long it takes for you to get from max health into kill range. Once you finish the kill, you've earned free full hp from ssing minions, so the consideration isn't damage healed per inventory slot, it's number of kills you can make it through without eating so you can get that free full hp off the minions.

  12. I imagine Torva will be a decent amount more than the ranger set(only real use is Nex??) and well, mage set won't probably have that much demand.(comparatively) If free trade comes around, Torva will probably rocket to crazy heights and the range and mage set will increase a bit. So I wouldn't be surprised if the price for Torva inflates to accommodate the lower value of the range and mage sets. All speculation of course and it's obvious hard to tell at this point... Ranged top is good for every monster you'd want the armor for basically (Bandos gwd, Zammy GWD sometimes, Nex, Corp...), ranged set is good for Corp, Arma, and Nex. Torva, on the other hand, is good for... Um... You'd use the helm and legs for Bandos I guess, or the set at Zammy for a protect magic solo. For warring, you'd want both, but Pernix would be better if you could only choose one. I can't think of any reason for Torva to end up the expensive one- it's just not that needed.
  13. This math is completely invalid because, as has been mentioned, being able to brew later is a gigantic, difficult to quantify advantage. The guaranteed damage reduction means that you are safe letting yourself drop to a lower hp and be safe from KOs, meaning you have more time at 125 stats to try to finish the boss and/or soul split flash your hp back up. This can often mean not taking a brew in a kill you otherwise would have had to, and brew taking leads to more brew taking. If Graar is at 1/4 hp and you have to brew, you're probably going to spend long enough getting your stats back to 125 and being able to hit him well that you're going to have to brew again, so anything that makes having to brew at that point less likely is a humongous advantage both in terms of time and supplies. Before overloads, ely was actually a decent option for PvM, and I'd have agreed the difference was somewhat small. Now that this mechanic of harming your damage output by healing exists, though, there's no comparison. Divine is leagues better than ely.
  14. With juju pots, my best for one patch was 24 torstol, and my best for a run of 5 patches was 71 torstol. My best money-wise was 63 torstol and 2 returned torstol seeds for 5 patches, which at the time was like 2.5m profit.
  15. This. So what, somebody who can't speak from a neutral standpoint has never any right of speaking.. He can't see the two sides of a coin, and always thinks he's best, with zealous ambition.. Really maybe you "believe" in him (like you believe in a religion) - but that doesn't give him any right to speak (just like religion is in no position to speak). I just found somebody who sucks at Nex.
  16. Wow, people seriously ignore obviously good advice just because it has a swear word? No wonder 90% of runescape's population sucks at everything.
  17. God I hope so. My clan tries to do daily events and every single one has been getting pretty damn stale lately.
  18. I try not to mention the extreme phobia of ventriloquist dummies I had as a kid. Went on for about two years as well, but it still doesn't make it conversation-worthy. Neither did the rest of the news bulletin... But if they're going to mention one new CEO, why not another? Because that CEO is still there to stand over his shoulder and make sure he's mentioned. Notice the conspicuous lack of anything said ABOUT the new CEO. If you don't have anything nice to say...
  19. My clan has been insanely lucky if that's the case- 3 drops in 120ish kills.
  20. which proves that restricting trade was ineffective at fighting bots we already know that restricting trade was ineffective at fighting RWT, so what exactly has it accomplished? and why exactly should the restrictions remain? I feel like the best question is what they actually did so that the effects of RWT didn't and haven't overcome the game like they predicted they would. You know, if the restrictions were as ineffective as you think. Simple: Jagex exaggerated about the end of days RWT would bring about way back when they took away free trade. Since RWT and botting are still major problems, that's the only possible explanation.
  21. Wait a minute: -At 700k expenses a trip.. With 4 people means the team expenses are 2.4M.. -5 kills a trip, averaging around 300K.. - So you get back 1.5M.. I still see a negative gab of 900k. So to be even non-expensize you should expect around 250Kish special drop. - If all drops have the same rate, you'll be looking at an average value of 95-100m a drop. - This means that to be even "profitable" you'll need to get a drop at least every 100 trips. - Or every 400 kills. And (with the average trip taking 1 hour including getting kill count(?)) to be an effecitve money maker (to make 3M+), you'll need to expect a drop every 100 kills. All this means is that the average price of the special drops will not be 95-100m. I don't think anyone expects them to stay anywhere near their current GE prices- the best armor in the game could easily stabilize at over 500m for the average unique drop when free trade comes out and allows it. The drop rate also does look to be over 1/100 for anything, at least for my clan. We've had torva legs and virtus top and bottom in under 100 I'm pretty sure.
  22. Except, that, y'know, that would make no sense. Zaros having been a thousand years banished when the Godsword was created and all. Except, ya'know, if they can merge Zaros into the godwars, they can pretty much do anything, no matter how ugly it will be. I bet they could merge the internet into runescape without much of a hassle(playing funorb games on a rs character, ey?). Yeah, I'm still pretty annoyed about shoehorning Zaros into the GWD, story-wise. A Zaros Godsword would still be 50x more plot fail though. "During her long imprisonment Nex heard stories of the legendary Godsword and set about the creation of a hilt dedicated to the Ancient god Zaros using her and her mages' considerable magical abilities." Hopefully this was an effort to prove my point rather than dispute it.
