I fail to see what the big fuss is about. Jagex owns the game and they can do as they please. I understand many are disappointed, but this was far from unexpected. If you don't like the updates, play something else, there's enough good stuff out there. And for the love of god, go buy yourself a sense of perspective.

Oh, please. If it's true, it's sad for his family and for himself. But it hasn't anything to do with Runescape and Jagex cannot be held culpable for a tragedy like this. As such, this sort of news is completely meaningless. Threatening with suicide is not only stupid adolescent behaviour, it's also very offensive. Need an analogy? If my boyfriend tells me he doesn't love me anymore, sorry darling, and I decide to throw myself off a bridge, I am the one to blame for my sillyness, not my boyfriend for leaving me. If I simply threaten to commit suicide so he'll stay with me, I'm a bloody psychopath.

If Belgium splits in two, who gets Brussels?
Sumpta replied to YourOldFriendIsBack's topic in Off-Topic
Exactly, the stuff I've read on this thread... =;. Please, if you don't know what you're talking about, just shut up, before my faith in some of you gets badly injured... Flanders has no claim over Brussels and actually, it's been many decades since the "French" (Walloons would be the correct term) were the wealthiest. The Flemish Government hasn't the faintest idea how to spend their wealth. Should Belgium split in the next few years, and that is far from likely, Brussels will probably be neither Flemish, nor Walloon territory. They'll make it EU or a microstate like Monaco or Liechtenstein (that's what the Bruxellois have in mind themselves). We are in a crisis, that is true, but those who wish to seperate may shout the loudest, but are far outnumbered by those who don't want to seperate. Quite frankly, most Belgians are more worried by the increasing prices (oil,...) than by independence. Also, from a cultural point of view, the Flemish have much more in common with the Walloons than with -say- the Dutch, even though they supposedly speak the same language. Belgium is often compared with a seemingly bad marriage: both partners quarrel all the time, but try to come between them and they'll take vengeance on you with a before unseen understanding. -
Du Levande (You, the Living) - My god, did I ever get a bad cinema experience with this one. Only 9 people in the whole room and still I got all the horror of a bad audience: two old ladies giving a running commentary all the time, one crisps bag and a teenager girl who couldn't leave her cell phone be for more than ten minutes. To add insult to injury, the sound tape got completely distorted 30 minutes from the end, resulting in an awful zooming noise, which only stopped 5 minutes before the end. The fact that I still enjoyed the film, shows its sheer brilliance. A whisp of Tati, a bit of melancholy, great music. Mankind in its littleness, without being depressing. Funny, weird, beautifully shot, without pretention, it cuts to your heart. I'm also a big fan of the sing-song Swedish language.

It must be the sig. My subliminal method to get everyone on OT to think of me as extremely kissable. Mwehehe.

That's evil. How could you be so cruel? No, killing little kittens with a needle is cruel. I consider myself a rather kind person, but believe me, for a girl, there's nothing so annoying as a man who has worked himself into a crush without any participation from her side. The first few times, you're kind about it and try to be sweet and remain friends and blablabla. Then you discover it gets you into nothing but misery and you look for alternative ways of dealing with them. This is just one of the many tactics a single girl has in her command to deal with little annoyances like that.

I'm keeping my inner feminist in reins for a moment, so I'll share some tips, acquired through years of spinsterhood. The freezer is your friend. When you cook, make enough for 3 meals. One portion for tonight, the rest goes into the freezer to be discovered again on a hungry, penniless evening under time pressure. Give parties and only provide the foods, let the invitees bring along drinks. You'll never be able to drink it all and -tadaaaaa- you've now got yourself a booze stock and a cleaning job for a day after the party. Okay, the latter doesn't seem appealing, but honestly, when else were you going to clean the place? A tip for every bachelorette: live together with a girlfriend. Not only does it have a certain appeal to single men (wink wink, nudge nudge), they're also lifesavers if you want to get rid of less desirable single men and haven't got the heart to do the evil deed yourself. "Noooo, Helena's not at home right now, no clue where she's off to, bu-bye."

3 December 2007 - Behind the Scenes - December
Sumpta replied to mr_emflum's topic in General Discussion
Sounds okay, but not really my thing. I'm not much of a pvp-person, nor do I like the wild, for that very same reason. All of these updates are aimed at another kind of player than me. Not complaining though, I have plenty to get on with... The graves are a funny idea, I'm curious to see how that'll work out. I hope that the new monster is not a slayer monster, though. I love slayer exactly because it doesn't get you into that kind of pvp situations. A tough slayer monster in the wild is a big big no-no. Also, I'll be irritated if it's 95 slayer, as someone suggested. I achieved 87 slayer or so when dark beasts got the dark bow drop (argh) and I'd have 93-94 slayer when they'd release the 95+ monster :D. But I highly doubt it, there's what, 1k 95+ slayers? They didn't want to release the dark bow before a minimum of players had achieved 90 slayer so... unlikely that enough players have achieved 95 by now. Anyway, we'll see. -
Things that contribute to my happiness level: - a sudden waft of a good smell (freshly baked pumpkin pie, a good perfume, wood,...) - being well-fed - relaxing with a glass of wine and a good friend - getting signals of attention from that unattainable man who seems immune to my charms (the nerve), signals that show that maybe he's not that immune after all - a positive advice of a financial institution for one of my projects/little schemes, be it at work or concerning my spare time activitities (theatre festival) - watching episodes 4/5 of Pride and Prejudice (my god, I'm such a girl of a girl) - reading one of my favourite childhood books on a rainy Sunday afternoon - an early night in fresh sheets... the bliss
-
Use whatever parts of me that are still useful, the rest of me can be tossed into a coffin. I'd prefer to be buried, since a grave is a bit more personal than a little box in a wall with other boxes. I'd love to have an informal wake for me, nothing religious, just a gathering of friends and family, with good food and lots of wine. They could talk a bit, laugh about my good and my less amiable qualities, console each other a bit if need be, etc. Irish kind of wake, maybe a song or two. Mmyeah, that would be really great.

Pro: I always hated merchanting, so this is perfect for me. Sell my junk while I play, sleep or work. Con: none, really, except that the market is extremely unstable right now due to the extensive use people are making of GE. Everybody is putting up the junk that was lost in their banks, causing a big inflow in the market. It'll take a little while to stabilise, I guess.

I'm with BlueLancer in this issue. I'd rather not marry. I do believe in monogamy, but as of yet, I do not have a crystal ball which helps me predict the future. So I simply can't promise to "love and cherish till death do us part". I do believe I'm capable of the feelings and I can try to work it out with someone, but I can't be 100% certain it will. I have more faith in simply choosing for someone and not chaining him to me and vice versa, but to both be free to leave when it's all wrong. Alas, the men I've met so far have all been heavily advocating pro marriage, so I might have to give in one day. In that case, I'd prefer a no big deal-affair. Just a small get-together, no sand, sea, trees or incense involved if possible. Still, I've known for years what kind of a dress I'd wear on my wedding day :D.

Indeed, I am not. TPUM hasn't showered this morning.

Do as you please. When you have had enough of them, let them be for a while until you feel like them again. With me it all depends. There are periods when I do clues as soon as I get them, because they break the monotony of slayer. Sometimes, I limit the clues to one a day (because with slayer, you easily get several a day and then they do slow you down.) And my latest clue has been in the bank for well over three weeks now. I always do sort of feel guilty about that, though, when I think of all the clues I'm letting go by.

You know, I often hear girl characters are hassled all the time. But in the two years that I've played, I can count the times I had such a conversation on one hand. (For all clarity: I'm a female with a female RS character.) ... My RS counterpart must look very unattractive :?.

I'm thankful for being able to find joy in life, in both the good and the bad, the small and the big. I'm thankful for hope and for dreams. And I'm very thankful that it's friday :D. I'm so happy that I have a trip to Egypt to look forward to, whenever I feel a bit down. No New Year in the snow for me!

Ahem.... New thing for next year is summoning...

Mmm, I have trouble envisioning this. Imagine already crowded training spots infested with hordes of animals on top of the hordes of players. Still, they seem to have put a lot of thought into this, so I'm curious. It'll be great if it's a skill that interacts with all the other skills. Preferably not too expensive either. I'm guessing we'll finally have a use for bird's eggs. And on a personal level: that 2000 total goal of mine is very feasible all of a sudden :D. -
How famous are you on tip.it? (Over 10k posts)
Sumpta replied to 2handeddagger's topic in Forum Games
7/10. Can't remember ever seeing you before, actually, but the nice 1000 post count deserves respect :). -
Trouble in Paradise is still on my to-see list. After this weekend, possibly, I'll let you know if it can contend with To Be or Not to Be :). That box really is pretty cool. I had no idea Lubitsch had made musicals. Curious. I gotta get me that box when it's out...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull!
Sumpta replied to PhaperPlane's topic in Off-Topic
Weehee! I'm an Indie fan, I've watched the films over and over again ever since I was a little girl, so I'll be dancing many happy dances before going to see nr 4. The title is a bit icky, though, but the appearance of Cate Blanchett in the cast list makes up for it! Lots of films to look forward to, the coming months, by the way. I'm eagerly awaiting Sweeney Todd and The Golden Compass. -
Right Click Players - Total Level, Not Combat Level?
Sumpta replied to RayOxide's topic in General Discussion
It's a bit naive to assume that seeing a player's total level would earn him more respect and less "noob" comments. A level 3 with a great total will then get "you noob, why don't you train your combat". A level 126 with low total will get "you noob, why don't you skill more". In the end, whichever way you look at it, we're all noobs. Such is the community. -
I think that someone who is that high level and doesn't know common knowledge has either the memory of a goldfish or is, in fact, an idiot. No need to beat around the bush. Especially when we have the answer already here. I always say to these people "no offense, but how can you not know where that place is?" The answer as always: "I dunno, I've only played PC lol" Furthermore, the increase in ignorance, idiocy and decrease in common sense all coincide with the timeframe of PC. Hey if the boot fits... Hmmm, true, but how would you define common knowledge? RS is infested with mini-games. I'm combat level 120 (no PC) and I have a total of 1967. Most mini-games, I've only tried once or twice. I have no idea how to win Castle Wars, because I never fancied the game. I've only ever done 3 or 4 Barrows runs. Still, it would be pretty harsh to call me an idiot because of that. People play the game the way they want to. I prefer players who try to go for a good all-round gaming experience (not e.g. wasting their lives at PC or bandits), but even then it's hard to know how to be good at every aspect of the game.

The shop around the corner - Awwww, I love James Stewart. You may have seen the horrid You've Got Mail version, but this is in fact the real thing. "Psychologically, I'm very confused, but personally I feel just wonderful." Sparkly, cute, but not light-weight. Actress Margaret Sullivan was new to me and she delivered her lines with greatness. Yet again, I had a snort-moment (the horror, the shame), when she said "we live on a different planet, you and I". A classic, but To be or not to be does remain my favourite Lubitsch.

Much Ado About Nothing - Shakespeare for the masses. Well, I liked it. Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson sparkle as the couple that always quarrels, the rest of the film is so-so, even though the cast consists of nothing but the greatest stars. The scene where Bene[bleep] overhears his friends talking about Beatrice is simply fantastic though, and it made my day, my weekend even. The world must be peopled!
