  1. Oh, everybody who mentioned Cary Grant and happens to be Dutch/Belgian, or planning a trip to the Netherlands: the Film Museum of Amsterdam has a Grant exhibition this summer, showing some of his greatest films. Link.
  2. Considering that Tip.It posters have been known complain in the "How to get a girlfriend"-topic that maintaining a girlfriend is a costly business, I guess it actually ís possible for a person to be an expense. Ha-de-ha. Anyway, I think the sarcasm referred precisely to that kind of ridiculous logic ;).
  3. You're actually trying to tell me the world will end with angels swooping down, destroying everything, followed by a dragon? Well, it would have a higher entertainment value than a big rock on our heads. Or coughing our way through a world wide outburst of the flu. I have no idea, I guess an asteroid would be most likely, and/or an ice age. And of course, we will have pandemics on our hands, severely weakening the human population. As for moving to a different planet, that would really give a new dimension to being homesick, I guess.
  4. I guess tend more to the relaxed approach. It really depends on what I like. My general rule is to do the calculations beforehand, inform myself of the possible training methods, to try them out and then to pick whatever is balanced enough to me fun/reward-wise. And it may very well turn out that I choose the method that isn't the most efficient. For example, I got 10k herbs from slayer/farming. Instead of selling them and buying the most cost-efficient herbs, I just turned those 10k into pots, which I sold. It just gave me satisfaction to know I'd turned all of them in pots, getting me 90 herblore on the way. Not thought-out perhaps, but it gave me pleasure. I have 99 slayer, but I never bought Guthan's. I use Sumona instead of Duradel, alch a lot of not so very worthy drops, take every coin drop, sometimes forget my pots or use simple combat pots instead of supers, farm between tasks and bury every big bone. Definitely not super efficient, but the 99 still came sooner than was strictly necessary to me. I just liked slayer enough to take it easy... Now, I'm taking up agility. And it's quite possible I'll try to get a few k brimhaven tickets instead of doing the monkey course, in order to keep my sanity. Not sure yet. I did do the calculations and I do know the Monkey course is twice as fast, but I always liked the Brimhaven one. So, why not? Prayer, on the other hand, I'm planning to get through as fast as possible, buying all the dragon bones and going guilded altar all the way. Even that'll take long enough to get thoroughly fed up with it, so the 99 may even never come. All of the efficient players probably shudder at my thoughtlessness, but hey... I can't imagine getting 99 in every skill, nor do I want to. Whatever would I do then?
  5. For P2P: - The tele is great for farming rounds. I used to do a short ectophial farming trip after every slayer task, and with this one, you have another farming patch just a click and a hop away, without the cost of tele runes. Great to get rid of all those herb seeds you get superfast. And with the shortcut in the draynor fence, you can quickly stop by for a nightshade pick and plant as well. - Great for unlimited run for agility training. I tend to do a bit of monkey agility training a day. With the ogre pool and 150 free run % together, I can get about 30k agility xp without touching a super energy. Also very useful for restoring energy during farming trips or slayer assignments. - And as was said, the alchs give free xp and coins if you use them to alch drops you'd usually have to leave behind (steel 2h are great). For bigger drops, I still prefer high alch though.
  6. Jagex stated time and again that taking arrows is not stealing. You have a set period of time during which the arrows are visible to you only. If you want them, go and claim them. (Heh, quoting LOTR, I'm such a nerd.) After that period of time, they're fair game to everybody. Yes, it can be annoying, and it is rather rude, but that's just ranged. Get used to it, or range something easier to kill, or switch to melee/mage. As for flaming people who actually try to help you: .
  7. I completely agree. I'm not a scientist and I only know what I read in the press, so you won't hear me claiming global warming is true or not. However, it doesn't take much intelligence to see that the Western countries waste a lot of resources, just because they can. As other big nations are climbing to welfare (China!) this is only going to get worse. It seems nothing less than sensible to me to invest in alternatives that are environment-friendly, if we want our children to enjoy our earth as we do. I respect the earth and I will do my best to reduce the effects of my use of it. On a personal, micro-level, it is also obvious that saving on energy and gas will do your wallet a lot of good, or rather, less harm. Prices are going up, while the economy is stagnating (at best), so we are most definitely entering a period of recess. With a few simple changes of habit, I have lowered my yearly electricity use by more than 25% and I haven't got a car, my employer pays my daily trainrides to and from work.
  8. Not in a relationship at the moment, but my first boyfriend and I met in such a way that was just meant to be. I met him through some friends of mine, during the summer holidays, just before we were going to university. I really liked him the instant I saw him, you know, the tell-tale sparks, and we started talking. We talked about our rooms in the university city and he asked me where I'd be living. It turned out we were going to live in the same street... which we thought was quite funny, but we assumed the houses would still be a bit apart. We got to know each other better over that summer, and at the start of the academy year, we discovered that he actually lived in the house opposite mine, both on the third floor, with our windows looking out on each other. Ohh, the conversations we had window-to-window! Of all the coincidences, eh? Still took us half a year to really become an item (both a bit shy back then), but it lasted nearly four years. Although, it was quite irritating when we had a row. To be able to see your boyfriend close the shutters on you or stomp around angrily doesn't work wonders for your peace of mind. Good times :.
  9. As been said time and again, the drop rate has been confirmed by many slayers to be somewhere between 1/400 and 1/500. I've kept track of my kills/whips and I've killed a little over 10k demons for 23 whip drops. All on assignment, but I doubt that makes a difference, aside from a psychological one. You've obviously been having bad luck, but once you start killing more demons, the drops will even out to that rate. Dry streaks happen, but usually don't last.
  10. I like farming a lot... and if you have a bit of patience, you can get to 99 cost free. I MTK for tree seeds and get herb seeds from slayer. I start my RS gameplay with a herb patch round, and then go on a tree round. After that I go do whatever skill I please (agility lately) and end my RS day with another herb round. I always log out at the My Arm patch, that way I can harvest/plant/harvest/plant in one swoop, without the running around. This method allows me to not interrupt the other skill I'm training and still gain farming experience. I'm close to 95 farming now, never made a loss from it (on the contrary), and it never felt like I had to grind away at it as you have to do with other skills. When slaying, it's even better... do a task, do a short herb round (2 patches), do a task, do a short herb round. Those two skills match perfectly :. The only thing that does bother me, is that there's no logic to the disease rate... At 95 farming, I still have marigolds die on me way too often. They should implement "no disease" levels, just like there are "no burn" levels for cooking.
  11. I agree with Intriguing. Please, no new 'mature' limited forum. It would most definitely turn elitist. Heck, the OT already turned elitist once, if I remember correctly. Remember all the "who's my favourite OT'er" topics and the "let's flame the non-regulars just because we can"-attitudes? And then there was the discussion about the 'hidden forum' that is accessible only on invitation or something for 18+ Tip.It-members. Quite frankly, it is/was ridiculous.
  12. I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver me these goodies! I'm getting ready to leave for Tuscany for a month, so I went for an assorted quality/light fun list. DVD Sleuth (the Laurence Olivier version, not Brannagh's remake) Kind Hearts and Coronets Double Indemnity Much ado about nothing Twelfth Night Stealing Beauty Unfaithfully yours Cruel Intentions Galaxy Quest Books The Harry Potter Box set (1-7)
  13. RC and hunter spring to mind. As well as GWD. I'm also going to mention slayer, since nobody else did so far. It requires investing time and it lacks consistency (no fixed hourly income rate) and the combination of several different income 'systems'. But it can make you a load of gold, as well as training lots of skills. I'm not just talking about the rare drops (dragon boots, whips,...). The assigned slayer monsters are very often seed/herb droppers, and that's where some of the best money is these days. Farming herbs ftw. Not saying this to brag, but to provide some factual evidence: 99 slayer made me 140 mill cash, and I still have to clear out 5k high-level herbs, about 500 upper and high-level herb seeds (gonna farm them), all my gems (including more than 100 dragonstones) and some assorted dragon drops. Not including the cash I spent maintaining MTK all the while. Obviously, if you had spent every hour I slayed simply RC'ing/hunting/killing bosses, you'd have made more. But not only does it drive you mad, it makes you train just the one specific skill, which is often maxed anyway. To me, making money in RS, is inextricably linked to fun factor and getting skills up, since it's a game for a reason. So I always take that into account when looking for money. Slayer suited me perfectly :.
  14. Oh come on, guys. Jimmy Stewart! Cary Grant, I agree, of course. The drunken scene in the Philadelphia Story with Stewart must be one of the very best ad lib acting moments in cinematographic history. OK, I may be exaggerating, but it is one of my favourite films for a reason. Katharine Hepburn. Many disagree, I know, but what a personality. No Keira could ever compete. Alan Rickman. Even with one minute of screentime, he can annihilate the pitiful acting of his co-stars. The voice, the British understatement,... Pity you rarely see him in really good films. Emma Thompson. Again, a fantastic personality and an incredibly talented woman. I adored her acceptance speech of the Golden Globe for Sense and Sensibility. And thank you How2PK for the inspiration: Jack Lemon.
  15. Been a long time! Some of my recent watches: Atonement - I was weary about this one, since I read and loved loved loved the book. That the director was the same of the pitiful Pride and Prejudice and starring Keira Knightley did not aid either. But I was wrong. I couldn't find any fault with the screenplay, the acting, or the directing of this film. Gripping and beautifully shot. It's only a shame I've seen so many of the great actor duo's (Hepburn - Grant, Hepburn - Tracy, Bogart - Bacall) that the chemistry between Knightley and whatshisname seemed nearly non-existant. The Big Sleep - Having seen about every screwball comedy ever made, I've turned to investigate film noir. This Bogart/Bacall oozes atmosphere, but I did find it a bit annoying that the plot went in all directions. I couldn't follow at all and soon learned that wasn't really possible anyway. Still, definitely worth the watch, again beautifully shot, with a sizzling on screen chemistry between the actors. My house in Umbria - rented by my housemate, and I'm never sending her to rent a film on her own, ever again. The first half hour was very enjoyable (may be the wrong word, but hey), but then it steadily degrades, to culminate in a completely unbelievable ending. Thank god for Maggie Smith, who performed her usual excellent standard.
  16. True, but on a (nearly) full world, even the 7 crafting guild rocks respawn fast enough not to have to wait. Can make competition fierce, but if you manage to get on world 2, you can be there for hours on end without anybody interrupting you. I tend to mix and match between the guild and brimhaven. Been a long time since I mined, though, so yeah :.
  17. Actually, a lot of gold mining spots are easy to get to. Combinating skills necklace + duelling ring makes the crafting guild a winner as well. The Arzinian mine has the advantage of little competition, but the disadvantage that you have to pay ores to bank. And even then, you need to run a bit to have them banked.
  18. This guy has it right. It's the fastest and most cost-effective method to 99 mining, smithing and if you like, 99 crafting as well.
  19. Rereading my post, I realise how much I sounded like a petulant child... Thank you for your kind response to my insecurities :. I agree. Stricter moderation will (hopefully) lead to people watching out more and putting more effort into their posts. Which, in its turn, can lead to more lenient moderation. As such, I do believe it's a good thing to make more efforts to moderate the OT.
  20. Sumpta

    Wtf leo?

Yesterday, I had three prison Petes in half an hour's time, spiced up with a mime and an old man... -.- I don't mind randoms that much, but when you're potted or got a familiar with you, it is annoying to see the minutes tick away. The problem with the gravedigger, the maze, the mime... is that they take a while. Nothing to do but wait until Jagex changes them, which hopefully will be soon .
  21. Way to go in completely overreacting and not comprehending irony, even if you are keen to use it yourself. I'm sorry if you feel I insulted your intelligence, but there's no reason to retaliate by insulting mine. Or am I really to believe that you consider the a q p w a work of art, since I am wrong in saying that it isn't? Like I said, I agree on your point of people overreacting when saying a naked body is obscene, but I feel you have drawn a bad comparison, by pulling National Geographic and Michelangelo into it. The people here who reacted did not say, nor intend to say, that the human body is obscene. So thank you for setting us straight? I'm always game for a discussion about art. I believe an important aspect of it is indeed the reception of it, and even more so, the intention. But the point is, this thread is not the place for such a discussion. Anyway, like I said, I didn't mean to insult you, and I do apologise if you feel that I did.
  22. Hmm, I feel it's odd that people say that they like the one over the other in terms of 'fun factor'. To me, fishing and woodcutting are completely alike. You stand somewhere, click your utensil on a spot and wait while your inventory fills up, occasionally moving when the spot 'dies'. And both skills have community spots for those who chat and silent spots for those who don't. They are both skills I rarely train, only whenever I feel like reading on the Internet (and even then...) I prefer fishing just a bit more, but only because it gets me monks to use on slayer tasks.
  23. Okay, thanks for the replies. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't throwing away precious stones just like that. I see a glory sells for 37k though, which is about the same as a cut stone... Less than a 100k loss isn't that huge. So I might just want to craft them. All crafting xp being welcome :. Gunna test if they actually sell before I do that though.
  24. I kept a diary of the number of demons I slayed and the whips I got. I've gotten around 25 whips so far, so it should be pretty precise. Haven't got the exact number here (at work), but my rate is about 1/500. One whip every 3 tasks, though lately, I've really been on a dry streak.
  25. I've got more than 100 cut dragonstones in my bank, and I'm wondering what to do with them. I've got all the glories, wealths, bracelets,... that I need. I don't BH, so I'm not sure about the bolts. So. Do I just toss them onto the GE like that or turn them into something else? What would be best? Thanks!
