  1. Honestly? Boredom at work. I've sort of left these forums a few times before because of a clash of philosophy and ethics, but I've always found my way back again. During quiet periods at my work. Yeah. But why come back to Tip.It specifically? Well, first of all, I'm one of the few off-topic'ers who still plays RS, so I use this forum to remain up to date with the game. Apart from that, off-topic gives me a good forum to write English, a skill that needs maintenance, and give my opinions at the same time. And there are a few people here I really do like and to whose posts I always look forward. This is going to make me sound like a total grandma, but I also loved seeing some of you grow from angsty teens into fine people. Usually, however, I am mightily annoyed by what I read. But that's good too, keeps my sense of justice and my fighting spirit alive.
  2. I have both a quest cape (well, that's to say, have yet to do the last 2/3 quests to reactivate it) and one of the harder skill capes. I remember spending a LOT of time on quests when I first became a member... The thing is, for those 99 RC'ers and slayers out there, questing was a loooong time ago. They've forgotten how it was to catch up on the quests and quite frankly, few have any idea what a task it is to have to start questing from zero nowadays. But because players usually quest a lot when they are at a lowish level, it is looked down upon as something for the lower levels. And whichever way you look at it, the time investment for a quest cape is really nothing compared to getting 99 RC...

    Slayer Sucks

I'm the last person who usually posts a "get over it". But seriously, why rant so vehemently against a skill that is really not bad at all? What non-slayers always fail to see, is that slayer is a COMBINATION skill in two senses. 1) You train combat AND make money. Of course you don't gain as much xp as when powertraining, nor do you get as much money as you do when doing GWD. Because then the skill would be unbalanced and you'd be whining how slayer is overpowered. 2) It is the skill that links combat with skills. Training slayer gains you combat levels, slayer levels and good money/resources to train other skills. Think of the seeds, the gems, the pure essence, the herbs,... I know self-sufficiency is looked down on by so-called efficient players, but I for one adored being able to provide for all my needs through slayer drops, and make more than a 100M in cash on top. There is no 99 slayer out there who hasn't also got a fabulous farming, herblore and crafting level (3 rather expensive skills) on top of his maxed out combat stats, thanks to slayer. A lot of players are attracted to this kind of combined training. And who can blame them. Also, slayer is a good skill for those of us who are not inclined to go monster hunting. I personally hate GWD. I don't like playing in teams and the soloing prospects are too limited. It's absolutely ridiculous how GWD comes up in every discussion as the ultimate moneymaker when the majority of RS players can't do GWD or are not inclined to do it.
  4. Always put things in perspective. Never assume you know everything. Have regrets, but don't ponder over them too long. Thank people too often rather than too little.
  5. Why should they retouch the photo? She's a politician, not a model. Her ideas and political skills are what's important, not her wrinkles... I bet that if they had touched up the photo, you'd have gotten a storm of protest how she was being treated as a sexual object rather than as a rational creature. Or am I completely missing the point here? Edit: I find those earrings more disturbing than her skin, quite frankly.
  6. No town, my homebase would be Castle wars. I always wear duelling rings for easy transport to one-click banking chest, several times a day (easily use up a ring/day). I use it for practically all my skilling.
  7. Oh come on, will the whiners please make good suggestions how Jagex is supposed to select among the players for a feedback forum? Jagex has no use for a forum visited by several thousands of members, they want a smaller, tight-knit group. Considering the large number of high-leveled players, choosing for the all-99 players seems the best choice. It is, after all, directly visible that these people have spent a lot of time on and in the game. Of course there are other players who know as much, maybe even more about the game, but how is Jagex supposed to find them and defend choosing that person over another one? It would be a way too slippery slope, so they've decided for a clear cut choice instead. All the more power to them for it. But no, instead of applauding such direct player feedback, everybody who hasn't made the team feels neglected. Grow up. I do like the suggestion someone made to give all the players the ability to browse these forums, but not post, though.
  8. Hmm, I guess not too many people put a lot of store in agility, but I've always felt some advantage in my almost-high level... my farming trips are a breeze. So, I'm going to continue to 90 (pretty number) and then move on to some other skills. Thanks for the answers!
  9. Never got caught at school. I had/have a Madonna-face (the virgin, not the pop-star), which helps tremendously. I was part of an "underground" rebellion movement at school. You know, hanging up rebellious posters in secret, publishing a school paper/website, breaking into the school at night for some innocent mayhem. The teachers found out nearly all the members, but nobody ever suspected me... I also loved sneaking around the school during the breaks to discover all the hidden rooms and staircases. I went to a very old and huge school, so there were plenty of pretty places to go where students weren't allowed. If I did get caught, I pulled the innocent act and escaped punishment every time. The trick is to do this sort of thing on your own. Teachers are a lot kinder one-to-one than when they have to deal with a group. That's it though, all pretty innocent.
  10. There is a distinction between natural evolution and negative human interference in an ecosystem, be it out of stupidity or self-interest. Many like to forget about this distinction because they are too lazy to change their ways. I'm not sure what caused these turtles to die out, but I often do feel like crying my eyes out when, for example, I read or hear stories of humans stupidly exporting/importing alien species into an ecosystem to the detriment of the whole of that system. It is easy to say the fittest survive and to say that it is not all our fault, but the heart of the matter is that our impact on this world is so deep and mostly destructive, that the least we can do is try to correct our own mistakes for the generations to come. But hey, as long as we ourselves have good lives, yeah? Meh.
  11. Oh, don't get me wrong... If I weren't at work, I'd be playing around with that new shiny button myself right now. A sense of justice and a fondness of sillyness can easily be combined, you know :D.
  12. I agreed at first.. Because it's something I'd never do myself, when I was 16 I'd definitely just flat out refused, or helped the kids out, depending on my mood, but never would I stolen the money to make a point. But all people are different. When krank pockets the money, he teaches a lesson to the kids who want to get drugged up with nicotine/alcohol (even if lightly) plus saves a small chunk of their health. He doesn't teach them any lesson at all, except for the lesson that you can be caught and need to avoid that. Those kids won't magically understand that there's a possible evil in cigarettes/beer, but just curse their luck and hope for better luck the next time. It's the typical instance of the thief being very sorry that he got caught, instead of repenting his malicious act. Krank doesn't tell these kids they're messing with fire, he puts the blame on the cashier who supposedly kept the money. He simply takes advantage of the situation, there's no Robin Hood justice involved.
  13. This topic stumbled upon one of my pet peeves. A big thank you to all the people who knew about computer applications and computer aids for the blind. I was about to despair when I read the idiotic comments on the first page of this thread. There are computer devices for all those who are disabled, be it if they are blind, deaf, motorically or mentally disabled. Considering the importance of a computer and Internet in our lives, this is no more than logical and, need I say, correct. Many of these people are isolated enough without being cut off from our new communication methods. There are very easy ways of making your website accessible to everyone and if Youtube works on the accessibility of their site, we ought to applaud that. We need more awareness and efforts the make the Internet accessible for all. /end sermon. My, I'm really in preaching mode today.
  14. Aww come on, slayer is simply the golden middle road, the all-in-one solution for every well-rounded player. You train your combat levels, while gaining additional slayer levels (yay for your total) and lots of lovely charms for summoning. You still earn a fair bit of cash while doing so. And if you're a really good boy/girl, you even get one of the shiniest, prettiest and rarest capes in the game. Seriously, slayer got me 99 in 5 combat skills and 112 million cash, not including the money I spent along the way on MTK, summoning, prayer etc. Slayer was also invaluable to my farming and herblore. It got me a very decent stack of natures, deaths and pure essence. And enough gems to gain quite a decent number of crafting levels.
  15. Oh my god. The whole world is looking at a recession and an economical crisis, lots of people are knee-deep in debts and financial problems, and you worry about your time-waster/hobby? Jagex is a company like every other and depending on its viability, economical strength and general management, it will pull through or not. I don't know enough of Jagex's management, but I'll hazard a guess they'll pull through. But seriously, consider that this recession might hit you far worse than the possible loss of a game.
  16. Another real issue is that the so-called ideal figure is physically practically impossible to attain for the average woman. I'm talking about barbie: extremely long legs, skinny waist, huge breasts. Apparently, men adore big boobs, but don't want the curvier behinds and bellies that usually go with them. So curvy women get stressed out because their legs are too short and their waists too fat. Skinny women get stressed out because they have good legs/waists but small breasts. I myself am in the latter category (though my BMI is slowly on the rise to a healthy 20), and it has taken a few of my teenager years to accept this and to be proud of my body, which is in perfect natural balance. There are always women who are an exception to the rule, of course, but usually, when you see a skinny woman with a C- or D-cup, you may safely assume she had a few operations to set things 'right'.
  17. In Dutch they say that even a donkey doesn't bump the same stone twice. Apparently, if a donkey hits a stone with his front foot, he wont hit it again with his rear foot. In English I only know of once bitten, twice shy. And of course fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Anyway, all this to say you should have known better :. Still, in such a situation the only thing you can do is skim and get a sense of the structure of your course. If you have so little time, learn the table of contents. It will give you a good general idea and it will help you to see the connections between different chapters in the course. Still, make sure you get enough sleep. It's no use working the night through, it will only get you more nervous, dead tired and left with nothing but very unclear thoughts.
  18. Wasting my time on something else, I guess. I'd probably read a bit more. And possibly get a bit more sleep, since I usually play between 11 pm and 1 am to unwind from a long day.
  19. I'm going for a higher agility level before I start training skills that require a lot of running (prayer, RC, pyramid plunder...) and I'm kind of wondering where to stop for a good time investment/result balance. I am now 87 agility and I had 90 agility in mind, and I'll get there faster than I had planned. Is it worth the effort and time to aim higher? Does anyone know if the restore rate is really very much higher at say 95 agility? And before anyone tells me about super energy pots, the explorer ring etc, I know all about them. I just figured that I might as well train agility before doing the running skills for a maximum enjoyment of my agility level. Hoping someone can help me out :.
  20. It is a bit frustrating, that greed. Before the achievement capes, I would have declared anybody mad who'd predicted I'd be going for any 99, let alone 99 slayer, one day. Now I have 7 of them, slayer included, and I find that I'm calculating and planning to max out at least 5 or 6 other skills. And why? I already have the cape I really wanted. I... just... can't... stop... Because stopping isn't standing still, it's going backwards. I'm struggling to simply keep my place in the highscores, let alone climb any higher. Luckily, I still keep plenty of distance and I do get a sense of achievement when I reach a goal. I really did scream out loud and I actually did do a happy dance through the house when I got 99 slayer :D.
  21. Whatever the cook, fletch, firemaking and maybe thieving cape owners may say, there's just no denying that their capes are the easiest to get. They require a minimum of money. They require a minimum of time. Those two also happen to be the building blocks of the game Runescape. I happen to have a fletching cape (was already in the high 90's when the capes came out) and a slayer cape. The sense of achievement in the fletching cape comes nowhere near the exuberance I felt at 99 slayer. Now, who of those fletching cape owners would pick the fletching cape for daily wear when there's a slayer cape in their bank? Oh, yeah, it fits better with their outfit, right? Riiiiiight. I think you get my point. Everything is relative to something else, putting the easier capes on the bottom sport of the 99 achievements ladder. Either enjoy the skill and be proud of your achievement, ignoring the flamers, or set yourself higher aims if you want to feel the respect.
  22. The tactic still works for me. 1325 on agility (one miss): juggle chins - emote - backflip - emote - chins - ... 1325 on ranged (one miss): 99 spot - emote - other 99 spot - emote - ... Huge fail on mage though, the anvil kept wobbling instead of disappearing :P.

    who wear jeans?

There may not be much discussion in these kinds of threads, but I would like to point out that not everybody actually wears jeans. I don't, for a start. And I definitely wouldn't be caught dead in skinny jeans.
  24. I live in a small university city, where the students make up a quarter of the population. So there are plenty of educated young people and educated young families that stuck around after their studies. Criminality is low and there's always a lot of life in the streets, nobody's scared to go out alone or anything like that. There are "problem areas", but nothing compared to those in big cities. Lots of young couples and singles live in my street because the houses are small (and payable, well, less expensive anyway). We have a community barbeque each year, so there are definitely efforts to get a community feeling. I don't really participate much, though, I prefer my own social circle to small-talk with neighbours who'd never be my friends if I didn't happen to live next to them. But I'm friendly with everyone except for a meddling, screeching, sour old lady.
  25. Heh, I've written two texts, simply to delete them, rewrite them and eventually post something. I found it very difficult to say something sensible, considering that I'm not an economist... Quite frankly, the machinations behind what is going on with the world economy at the moment are a mystery to me, and I depend on articles, the press and clever economists to get a vague idea.
