  1. Mm. I don't think the "mature" (in the sense of sexual, violent, racist, inappropriate,...) topics are OT's problem, though they can get very distasteful. But the so-called decline of OT has been going on for a year, maybe more, now. I quit the OT about half a year ago (not that anybody noticed), and I sure wasn't the only one. Back then it was because a select group of OT'ers had nothing better to do than patting each other on the back and flaming every new member out of the OT. In the end, good and regular contributers drifted away from the OT and they pop up very rarely now. Either they lurk, or they post very irregularly. Maybe it's just typical of a board dominated by teens, that you get cycles. As they grow a bit older, they lose interest in this board and move on. Making way for a new wave of less mature youngsters, who drive the last remaining 'oldies' away. I am very sorry to hear Goddess left too, yet another in a long line. Anyway. I'm all for the idea to control this board more, but I highly doubt it'll magically change the OT into a mature discussion board.
  2. I remember the other post. It sounded then like you were near a burn-out. It doesn't seem likely it's "the technology" at all, just too many things happened to you over the last few months. Go to the doctor, explain about your insomnia and that a lot of stuff is going on. If possible, and if you can talk openly when your father is there, take him with you. If not, sit down with your father and talk to him about the doctor's visit afterwards. Still, there is one smart thing about your father's plan. It would force you to take a break and spend your time differently. And that's about the only method to get over a 'burn-out'. Take it from someone who knows... I had to quit from work for 8 weeks after driving my body and mind to the limit, too stubborn and proud to admit I was burning up. What I did: I got out of the house, changed my surroundings, traveled, dumped the computer for a while, stayed away from people I didn't feel like seeing (pretty much everybody), took a break to deal with everything at my own pace. Do whatever feels right, but try not to fall into the daily rhythm you maintain now (as it's part of your insomnia problem). It might be a good idea to go to your mom's, because you'd get that change of surroundings. Or take a holiday, I don't know your age, but just go discover things. Take your time to deal with whatever it is that causes that insomnia.

    High level woes

People who chat me up in public, I don't mind so much. It's the people who won't leave you alone on private that bother me. That's why I'm ALWAYS on private off or friends. It's only going to get worse with this whole lending business. I spent some time at CW yesterday and I got asked to lend my gs all the time. I don't even have one, I've never killed a GWD boss because I've been slaying full time and I don't like teamstuff, I don't intend to go there anytime soon, and I prefer to spend the little cash I have on other things . Anyway, learn to live with it. As you'll climb the ranks, things will only get worse.
  4. Uh? According to Tip.It's calculator, it's 48,797 dragon bones from 70 prayer, using the gilded altar. The current dragon bones price is 2,329. That makes 113,648,213 gp for 99 prayer. Anyway, I'd go for prayer as well. 99 prayer has a very real use, and to get 99 herblore fast, simply buying the herbs, just to get a 99... It's a waste of time and money. I don't see much use in it if you don't farm as well.
  5. Teeg, there is a thing named context. I understand the temptation in putting RS on the same shelf as Wildlife or National geographic, but there is a difference. RS is a society in itself, which adheres to social rules. Indeed, there is nothing wrong with the human body. But it is not the OP's job to acquaint other players with the male genitalia. Nor is the a q p w joke a work of art comparable to Michelangelo's David. It is true that this whole 'oh noes, a nakud body' hysteria goes to far, but that is in no way related to this topic. The OP acted immature, and is -as expected- immature about being punished for it.
  6. Taking a spot that cannot be shared when there's already a player is RUDE. No, the first player doesn't own the spot, it's not legally his, but he himself went through a bit of trouble finding an empty spot too. If you wish to be rude, you can expect to be flamed. If you don't want to be flamed, you can hop. It's really not that hard or difficult to understand when you make an effort to think of someone else but yourself for once. Why are the higher leveled players worse at flaming you? Not because they feel better, but because it has happened to them all the freaking time over the years it took them to become high leveled. And they're fed up with it! Also, they slay/harvest/whatever a lot faster than a lower level, so you really are slowing them down. Thankyouverymuch. I've learnt not to argue and I simply hop whenever an inconsiderate like you comes along. But after about the third time in half an hour, you really do want to kick these people a conscience.

    Cramped Worlds

That's a really silly idea. You'd have lots of people who'd move to these worlds for a month or so whenever they want to powertrain certain skills. To return to the other worlds when they have the level/money they wanted. Thus solving very little of the problem: the competitive training spots will remain to be packed, while the rest of the RS world (the non-competitive spots) will be empty. More training spots is indeed a better answer to the problem. Though I feel that Jagex does try to accomodate. I've been doing slayer mainly the last few months, and most hard to slay monsters have had extra spots: bloodveld, aberrant spectres, abyssal demons, fire giants, nechryael, and so on.
  8. One of the most valuable lessons that RS society has to teach: you will always be a noob to somebody. Take Zezima or any other top player. Considered by so many as a half-god, even he is called a noob on a regular basis.
  9. I agree with some of the posts here. For their level, banshees are fabulous. I'm 98 slayer and I still gladly do them whenever I get them for a task :. Very easy, very fast, lots of pure essence and herbs. So, when you start doing slayer as a member, be happy every time you get them assigned. However, don't go camping there, there are better and more rewarding ways for making money.
  10. I think you miss the point. Jews call themselves jewish too and it is not disrespectful to call a jew a jew either. BUT it IS disrespectful when you randomly call people that to hurt their feelings, because then the word equals "lesser than me". Same goes for the word gay. Really, Blackbelt, maybe you think you're oh so cool and wise to randomly spout drivel in RS, but I doubt you'll find many that agree with you here. So don't pull that innocent rubbish that you don't know what you did wrong.
  11. Meh, I'm not really a merchandise fan. I hate all the Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Golden Compass merchandise. I'm not going to pay a ridiculous price for some badly crafted "replica" wand of Voldemort or Ginny. I am curious to see what Jagex are going to create though. "Get your own Zezima doll!" or "Get a cardboard Bandos Godsword!" Yeah.
  12. You won't do that simply by putting the action between asterisks. Your moderating talents need to be finetuned, no offense :.
  13. I use Sumona, and I'm 132 combat :. It all depends on your taste. Just compare the lists of tasks the two give and decide the ones you like best. Duradel has some tasks I don't really enjoy (Goraks, Terrorbirds, Wyverns, Steel/Mith Dragons, Suqahs, Infernal Mages...). I also like shorter tasks, but more variety. Also, Sumona gives tasks I can handle easily in one go. And to top it off, I like combining Slayer with Herblore and Farming, and Sumona gives good herb/seed droppers.
  14. :wall: 1) There are plenty of homosexuals who had a great childhood. The psychological problems they may have had, came from having to listen to people with your opinion, making them feel bad and guilty about themselves and their nature. 2) Flamboyant gays are perverse? Oh, come on. I guess that women who wear flashy skirts above the knee and curl their hair are pretty perverse as well. 3) The choice to continue sin... I'm assuming you are hetero, or gay with a lot of complexes. Now, really, is your sexuality your choice? Do you consciously choose to like the other sex better? Does your body react because you tell your brain to do it? If so, you have a problem. I respect that you're a christian, but don't portray yourself as humble and respectful of others, when your preconceived opinions show that you're all but. There's this great play and TV-series, Angels in America. It's about gay men in the AIDS-ridden 80's. There's one character, Joe, who has similar opinions as yours and decides being gay is a choice. He chooses to marry a woman, with all the consequences for both him and his wife. Let it be clear that denying your sexuality is a lot more sinful and hurting to you and your loved ones.
  15. Interesting topic. My opinion: if you can buy a skill you want, then go for it. Getting the money is quite a feat. I'll be getting 99 slayer soon, which has earned me enough cash to get 99 prayer. Why in the blazes should I go spending the rest of this year ranging dragons to get the bones the hardcore way? That 100M came from a few years of spending a lot of my RS time on slayer and now I'm spending it. However, I do understand people who get pissed off when a formerly difficult skill becomes buyable. I'm two weeks from 99 slayer. It's the skill that makes me play RS and I've been looking forward to sealing my love for it with a 99 for 2 years now... If Jagex changes slayer to a buyable skill that takes no more than 60 hours to get, I will surely grumble. Why? Because a whole load of people are going to splash a lot of money on a skill they might not even like. They just want the easy 99 to show off a highly respected cape. It then loses its respectability, because everybody and their dog has it. I can't stress this enough: without even liking the skill!
  16. Heh same here. I was playing RS on my laptop yesterday and my fan made so much noise that I figured my laptop could take off in the air at any moment. Laptop got seriously overheated. Next time I put it on the matress, I'm sticking some books under it to make sure it can cool down.
  17. Cave crawlers. Keep a spot for a slayer ring, a duelling ring and some anti-pot. Banking was never so easy! And they drop some hard to get seconds as well. Another great option if your thieving is okay is in the Agility Dungeon in Yanille. There's a very quiet room next to the yanille ladder that goes almost straight to the bank: http://www.tip.it/runescape/?page=agility_dungeon.htm Don't do aberrants unless you're on a slayer task/want combat xp. Yes they drop good herbs, but they take a few hits to kill and they'll hit you too unless you pray, which is a loss. Cave crawlers and druids are ultra fast and you won't need any food whatsoever.
  18. Don't think so for all of the reasons stated above. It's just because of the update, but it will get better. I'm running RS HD very smooth now, usually anyway, depends on the crowds and the worlds I choose. My laptop is 2 years old, have a broadband Internet connection, but it's wireless on the laptop, so it can be shaky at times. Oddly enough, the worlds Jagex suggests for me have gone to all kinds of American worlds, when before they suggested Dutch worlds (I'm Belgian, so that would figure).
  19. Serial monogamy is the thing right now. You have one partner at a time, but several throughout your life. All fine by me, although I find it hard to keep investing and getting emotionally scarred after every break-up. I hope not to have too many partners throughout life. Seeing as I can hardly handle one man and vice versa, I'm not too fond of the idea of juggling several ones at the same time either. One night stands... Dunno, seems kinda icky to me, but I can see the attraction of a dark handsome stranger for a hot night. They just never seem to walk into my life. Would I take back my virginity to "give" it to -say- my future husband? No, no, no, no and no. Not that the first time(s) weren't cute and loving and special and all, but they did kind of suck on the purely physical/pleasure level. Nor is it a 'gift' I would want to receive from my boyfriend. I prefer them to know what they're doing and I see no charm in teaching someone else.
  20. What?! Apart from drunken bets, I seriously doubt that a lot of men are going to do other men simply to get attention. It goes against the program. Sure, there are plenty of people (usually teenagers, or people who have been repressing their sexuality) who are still on the discovery. They can get mightily confused, but even so, it usually has little to do with 'getting attention'.
  21. Ehm. As far as I can see, you can decide pretty much yourself how to go about it. Are you willing to splash a lot of cash, do you want to earn money back or not? Keep in mind that with herblore, you'll always lose money. (If you'd simply sell the herbs, you'd make more than selling the pots.) I do herblore rather as a sideskill (88 now) and for me, it's inextricably linked with farming. I get herbs from MTK, Slayer (Sumona gives a lot of herb beasties tasks) and Farming (seeds through slayer). I buy only the seconds that are a pain to get (wine of zamorak, mort myre fungi,...). All the rest, I collect myself and at the moment, I have enough herbs sitting in the bank for 91 herblore. After 99 slayer (in 2 weeks), I'll be farming a lot more to gradually get to 99. If you want to spend the cash, do some calculations with the Tip.It calculators and determine the cost of your 99. Then you can see where you want to save money, if needed. In any case, even if you want to buy 99 herblore, combine it with farming ranarrs and/or snapdragons!
  22. Ahh, this means that the chin spots will get less crowded though. I liked Hunter in the beginning, but the crazy competition made me turn away from the skill for a long time. And even though the prices will fall, they'll stabilise at a reasonable point, methinks. Gold diggers will use other methods, which gives less supply for a ranging method that remains to be fun and fast(er), especially if its cost goes down. So I don't see what the fuss is about, really.
  23. Am I the only one who thinks: what 22 year old woman wants to be with a 13 year old boy? One of the good things in turning 20 is that you don't have to deal anymore with inexperienced teenagers.
  24. Fear of abandonment. Due to circumstances, I've learned as a kid that leaning on people makes them go away. They leave you, or they die. So, I've grown into an independent woman, who tries not to attach herself to people and I definitely try not to be codependent. I have it pretty bad and boy, it messes up your relationships. Men want their women to need them, I push them away before they have the chance to leave me... It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
  25. Funny to see how generations change. Not so long ago, young people rebelled against the middleclass life. From what I've read here, most of them yearn for that kind of life now. Same here, though. I'd like to have a house, nothing too fancy, just a place that belongs to me. Preferably a place that lets in the sunlight. Have a job that has some kind of social value. Have plenty of spare time to read, spend with my friends, and in the long run, with my family. I have a very small family (just my mother and my brother), so I'll have to create a family of my own. This is really funny, because when I was 17, I shuddered to think of such a "limiting life". Buying a house, getting married and having children seemed like being shackled to a wall. A very dirty, wet wall. In a dungeon. With rats. And abusive jailmen.
