  1. Well, I meant to join the race when I found it a couple months ago, but I didn't think I'd actually go all the way, or at least not very quickly. Now I realize I should have, but I can't really just join the winner's circle without racing :P
  2. I would ask my friend if there was a specific way they wanted me to use it, and respect their wishes if they did (such as selling it to lvl up skills), but if they just wanted to give it to me then I would either keep it (which was my vote) or work on upgrading it if I liked another color better.
  3. Bank value by a lot...I have spent a lot of time merchanting, and I also usually don't spend much money on skills (which limits my training options), so combining the two makes for a pretty wide gap.
  4. Done that before :-w Worst was (a long time ago) deciding I wanted to get a lot of magic lvls at the blue dragons in the ogre enclave, not thinking about how I could just bring some of the runes since I'd have to bank (I'd spent most of my money on 19k chaos runes and 57k air runes to use there, brought them all), then wondering what would happen if I attacked an ogre shaman... I don't remember how fast I died, but I remember getting back and the guy who got my stuff lied about getting it (I wish he'd just told me, even if he kept it), then logged out. And the nice p-mod at the next dragon over hadn't even seen I was there, and they might have given my stuff back  Needless to say, I'm a bit more careful to master those urges now, and to not take more materials than I need
  5. I can't remember where I read it, but I can confirm that the quote you received by anonymous pm is a direct quote from JaGEx...it was one of the articles I came across a month or two ago.
  6. ~200m (Yellow phat + santa + stuff I'm using - best estimate is yellow + 2 santas since I sold a santa to buy most of the rest of my current valuables. I'm also burning yew logs so I'm going down atm :P )
  7. I liked it overall, however I would like to point out an inconsistency with the segment about a peak in party hat prices. This month did not mark their highest point yet, they've been flatlining/declining for ~8 months (Indeed, I was trying to catch up to the market for ages, and when I finally got one for 152.5m, it shortly jumped to 167m, then crashed and has now resided between 135m and 145m for a long time). Also, I disagree about the crash when there are "very few merchants with very few party hats" left. Since the demand is so low, any interested buyers will have to *make* the phat owner want to sell. Besides, if prices crashed everyone would want them, and do to the "very few phats left" part, there would be vastly insufficient supply causing them to skyrocket. Besides, there's tons of new money coming into the game every day.
  8. Something I'd like to point out is that, as best I can interpret the rules, there is one single circumstance when account sharing is allowed, and that is when a child under the age of 13 is playing on thier parent's account, under the supervision of that parent. This was what I was pointed to when I sent JaGEx a query about their marketing the "Official RuneScape Handbook" to a 9-12 age group. I can't give the full reply since the message is confidential, but in a nutshell JaGEx wants to let parents decide whether children under the age of 13 are ready to play the game under the supervision of the parent, thus placing the responsibility for any disclosure of personal information or whatever in the court of the parents, rather than JaGEx. I just thought it was interesting that there is an apparent exception to the account sharing rule (to my best interpretation of the clause in the terms and conditions, as well as the rest of the response I recieved). EDIT: What is the point of posting "Second post"? I can't see that it adds anything to a possible discussion or whatever..."Sounds good" isn't much better but at least it doesn't admit to being a post for the sake of a post :shame: EDIT #2: I also agree with the poster below me that the article didn't particularly make linear sense...it seemed to jump around quite a bit, and be more like several mini-articles than one cohesive article.
  9. Good luck! And the draynor goal signatures are down due to hard drive failure, so that's why you can't see them.
  10. Problem with that is that it's extremely unpredictable. More recently, lots of people expected rares to go up on their respective holidays, so they crashed. Of course, some people will be expecting them to crash now, so they might go up, some people expect them to go up so they might crash, and that might all balance out and leave everything about even. However, based on current prices and performance, I'd recommend 2 green masks and a disk (or some other small rare), since masks have done particularly badly over the past 8 months (green masks used to be more than santas!), so I think they'll rebound better than santas. Then again, santas are probably more popular so they might be a better investment. Also, you could just buy whatever you like best
  11. I got super lucky on it (2 tries first time, 1 try second time) so I didn't find it too annoying, but I know many other people did. One Small Favour was fun, though it got a little annoying Sheep Herder was annoying, and used to be my least favourite quest. But, I have to say the Evil Dave subquest for RFD was my least favourite (mostly because I had a kitten :? ) I also know the rest of RFD would've made me frustrated if I hadn't used a guide, since there were tons of things that seemed to be designed to make you run from a remote location to a bank and back, many times over.
  12. I think if tip.it times became a monthly feature, publishing other things would be a good idea. However, I would rather see a bi-weekly times publication than a monthly one, because I enjoy tip.it times quite a bit.
  13. This is my second account... My friend introduced me to the game 4 years ago. He made me my first account, which he named "Ritard". I told him he misspelled it, but he wouldn't listen to me, which, of course, makes the name much more fitting :D . Anyway, I went home, and the next day when I tried to log on he'd changed the password on me  , so I decided to create a new account. Well, we rode the bus together, and he liked to get in my face and say "blooblybloblyblooblyblobly!!!"...(don't ask me why, he was funny  ). Anyway, I decided to name my account "blooblyblobly", but that was too long and by the time I noticed the "y" got cut off I'd already made it. The funny thing is, about 50% of the time someone tries to say a portion of my name, they manage to misspell it so that it gets censored (no part of my name is censored)...and the rest of the time it's usually "bloody" :? I have several other accounts, but the only one I use much besides bloob is x legendre x. The x's are because legendre was taken, and legendre was because I wanted a name that tied to legends (my goal for that account *points to sig*), that also related to math. Oh yeah, I think I have the current pass for ritard, but so does my friend :x
  14. I don't remember the exact cost, but it was under 50 gp. Not really very difficult. Anyway, fatigue was a bit of a pain, but pretty much everything was different in rs1. If you're going to bring up fatigue, I guess we can just say that rs2 was the biggest update for f2p. Everything changed with the release of rs2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that there used to be world wide wilderness...and your character could either be pvp or non-pvp...so releasing wilderness was actually putting restrictions on pking, not making it better  Anyway, I still think rs2 was the best update.
  15. I actually think separate F2P and P2P highscores is a really good idea. Now, dealing with F2P accounts that used to be P2P could be tricky (maybe once you're P2P, you stay on those highscores), but it would certainly level the playing field for pure f2p players. To be honest, I think being in the top 12 f2p players is just as big or maybe even a bigger accomplishment than being in the top 12 p2p players (a.k.a. maxed out), simply because there are so many less options for training. Combat has to be trained with rune scimmy instead of whip, high alch options are extremely limited, ranged is capped at maple bows and green dragonhide, runecrafting is left with no money making potential and slower exp, etc.
  16. Have you every tryed selling 33,000 ( not sure how many you need with the new gloves) of any item to a shop in 10's. Can you say RSI (Repetitive strain injury)? :uhh: The old way is 6,600 ( (33,000/10) * 2 ) clicks the new way is only 464 clicks and some waiting. You still need 33,334 chaos (well, maybe like 5 less if you start from a "base stock" world, but the "max out" price is still 9 tokkul per) for an onyx. And David, you've obviously never sold that many chaos to the shop. Doing it the fastest way possible (2 mouse buttons off, mousekeys on, chaos on bottom row), it takes me probably at least an hour (I didn't time it...), but no matter what it is, it's way longer than a couple minutes. I think it could be comparable timewise to killing a lvl 2 man that dropped like 300 gp and trying to save up 300k...it still takes a long time.
  17. They're the main reason for the large drop. With karamja gloves, shop buyback prices on obby weapons has increased dramatically (from 7.5k to 17.5k for obby maul), and the onyx price has dropped from 300k to 260k tokkul. Anyway, I know what it's like to lose money off an update, happens quite often to me. I don't think you should be worried that they're crashing (you don't have to like it but there's nothing wrong with the rs economy), the gloves shake things up a lot and naturally lower the price.
  18. You made a good choice, 4m a/w now, buyers for around 3.8 max I'm already seeing people buying mauls 200k each, I wish I'd had more time and free cash yesterday (picked up 2 for 125k ea but only had 600k left and I had to go :( ) Actually, the base price is affected (at minimum stock chaos brings 31 instead of 13). The "max out" price is still the same, so it doesn't affect anything.
  19. I learned that the hard way...also learned that rune keeps over ahrim the hard way (same time)...after that I figured out safespots, and I made quite a bit on barrows (when prices were still decent...never did get a spear though...I've gotten all but 3 items, 0 spears, my friend's gotten twice as many total items, but he has a nice 7 spears thrown in :x ) Anyway, I wear full verac (no flail), other than that maximize my mage bonus, and magic dart (dds + whip on karil, whip on ahrim). I bank after every trip and only use 1 p pot dose every time karil decides to meet me in the tunnel (don't need for others and I safespot dharok).
  20. Just to point out, the shop pays more for obby mauls now too (17.5k over the previous 7.5k  ). With the discount on the onyx, it now only takes 15 mauls for the onyx, as opposed to the 40 it used to take. (I expect onyx to drop even farther and mauls to go up - I found that out this morning, and mauls were already going 125k ea. Now they're being bought 140k ea)
  21. I picked the first one, but it's not entirely true. I think that I wouldn't get bored, as most of what I do is already in the game, however it would still affect me, since I like the updates. I'm kind of in between the first two options.....
  22. Anyone care to speculate on those future products and games? They're in the process of making a new game with the same engine. They used to have a few job openings open for it (on the corporate site), but they've apparently filled them now because none of the current job openings are specifically for a new game (either for runescape or for broader stuff, like the website/customer support/etc)
  23. Bought 5k law runes for 350 ea... Sold for 1k ea (all to one guy) :D Only paid 350 ea because that person said they'd wait for me to get the 5k they needed in the first place...
  24. As far as I can tell, you rambled quite a bit more than he did just now :? are you high? because i didn't ramble at all No, I am not high. And I wasn't high when I wrote that either. I see no reason for you to suggest that I am/was high either, except that perhaps you could think of no better response? Also, you said about 3 sentences with 0 punctuation marks, which made it rather difficult to read, and was rambling in my opinion. Flammacor wasn't rambling about nothing, he had a point to make and he made it. I think what you perceived as rambling was probably actually the supporting evidence that made his point stronger. I thought he got his message across very well (though you obviously missed it), the analogies were far from irrelevant, rhetoric is virtually never needless, and while the language may have been a bit more complex than absolutely necessary, I wouldn't call any of it "excessively ornate", since using more advanced language allows him to make his point more specifically, even if it does lose a few people (who only care about flaming anyway) in the process. I haven't explored every other MMO out there, but I have played quite a few and have yet to find a counterexample. Would you care to offer one? While it's true that there probably is another MMO out there somewhere with more freedom, that would be the exception, and I think "any other major MMO" or "most other MMOs" would have been acceptable. I spent precisely 0 minutes working out what the article was saying (aside from reading it through), and words such as "intuiting" aren't pointlessly obscure, especially when taken in context. Perhaps a word like "determining" would have been more accessible, but it wouldn't have had precisely the same meaning, and the wonderful thing about having a well-developed vocabulary is that you can express what you want to say more precisely with approximately the same number of words. I don't think he used the Microsoft Word Thesaurus (all the words fit the context, as opposed to having a similar dictionary meaning but not fitting as well), though I agree that for such a broad audience it probably could have used a little less emphasis on the big words (though I thought they enhanced the article, personally).
  25. As far as I can tell, you rambled quite a bit more than he did just now :? Anyway, on topic: I enjoyed this article very much, and I found it to be very well-written. I especially liked the point Flammacor made about emergent gameplay. One of the things that bugs me most about people in runescape is the attitude that many people have that merchanting is evil. I have gotten into several discussions over the topic (some rather heated), yet I have only once had such a discussion with someone who was against merchanting and actually had a good argument and was willing to concede that, even within the general classification of merchanting, there is "good" merchanting and "bad" merchanting. As I found out, we discovered that we actually had the same opinion even though we seemed to be opposed at first, with both of us being against what he was calling merchanting (basically lying to/misleading/taking advantage of other players for personal gain), while the merchanting that I support (and greatly enjoy) is acceptable (basically, in an over-simplified definition, buying low and selling high without doing any of the "bad" merchanting things). The main impression I have gotten from most of the other people I have "discussed" this with was that they had tried merchanting and hadn't been very successful, so they decided to bash merchanters to nurse their own bruised egos and reconcile themselves to the fact that the merchants were making more money than them (because the merchants started off unsuccessful and became successful and they didn't have the patience). [sIDE NOTE] I know plenty of people who dislike merchanting themselves but don't dislike merchants, I don't have a problem with these people, everyone prefers different things, but as Flammacor said, Back to my main point, the thing I liked most about the article was the attitude that emergent gameplay, whether you like it or not, is a good thing. I think the connection to Earth may have been a bit of a stretch, but I felt that it certainly did make a good point. Emergent gameplay in the wilderness is something I choose to forego (as is all encounters with the wilderness that don't involve clues or runecrafting), but I nevertheless think it adds a lot to the game, and it is certainly nice when a pker foregoes attacking me when I am doing a clue scroll because they feel that attacking someone who is doing a clue is dishonourable.
