  1. Well i thought i'd stop fuming about updates for a minute and post one of these annoying semi-spam threads, which occassionally raise vaguely interesting discussions. Anyway... What Runescape Community act or thread do you think had the most impact on life in general? A recent example of something that could be suggested was the 'Raise money for Malaria' Thread that went by, and raised $3000 for charity. Or maybe it was swift switch demonstrations, which changed Jagex's policies. Etc... You get the picture. Its community acts that had an impact that we're discussing.
  2. Maybe you'll learn some things from http://www.truthscape.com which covers recent events if you have the time. And generally, no these aren't popular updates; but don't worry, Jagex can shove us all under the carpet and put on a happy smiley image of RS, so that the new players join. Sounds great, doesn't it! Welcome to Runescape. :-w Btw going to bounty hunter is suicide, you get mauled by teams of one itemers, it is no replacement.
  3. They are not a good replacement for PKers nbecasue they do not have the intellegence, nor the sense of humour, nor the teamwork or the taunting. They may have the damage, and they certainly don't have the restrictions on who they can attack. I like it that you had to go into high lvl wildy to be in lots of danger. Anyway if i wanted to play against NPC's i'd go and play a single player adventure game and have my MSN chat up. Thats the alternative to current RS which is interaction and competetion free zone. NPC's, no matter how smart, or damaging will not replace good old fashinoned feuds, deception and generally being really annoying PKer's, but all having a good time. Killing an NPC isn't the same; there is no love-hate relationship. THere is a piece of programming hitting high danmage on you, even with less drops! IF Runescape is going to become a more or less single player game, it will have to live up to graphic and AI standards of things like Oblivion. Thats something its not going to do, its strength was in be able to interact with other people and compete with them. IT doesn't have that any more, and don't tell me 'the highscores' because i was rank 15 hunter, and now i'm probably about 50. THere isn't much actual competetion there, more than a competetion of time spent.
  4. Yeah, i'm equally unlucky... Over 200 clues (lvl 3) with nothing better than rune plate or sara page 2. However, you do have afew of your numbers out of line, like the 50% dragon med drop (more like 5%) and expecting to get a d chain from dusties without killing over 20k of them before beggining to wonder whats up.
  5. thats pointless if you're quitting runescape. mostly people quit is cause they want to cut out the addiction or find a better hobby. i dont think playing another MMORPG would make a difference. Yeah I'd rather play RS than a game where i have to start from scratch, which takes less skill, costs more and is less fun for me.
  6. Yes, agreed, the game is excitement and risk free. Soloing the DK's is dangerous, yes, but it less dangerous than 3 months ago where you couldn't get your items back if you died. Trading is less dangerous because there isn't a chance you'll get scammed. I can go to the DK's if i want and beat em again and again and again (with friends) but they don't match the human intellegence that was Pker's and stakers. Every move is predictable and revenants don't even finish their kills properly with dds specs... Gravestones make this game 'Dangerously' like WoW' and thats not a good thing. It has no risk/fun factor.
  7. If revenants are devilspawn, but Jagex created them, jagex is the Devil. This explains their sadism, and their intent to murder everyone.
  8. Copyright is different for each type of copyrighted thing. Written music (score) copyright is 70 years yes i believe, although there are other rules like Hard recordings of music are copyrighted (CD's, records) are copyrighted for only 50; or something like that. No doubt, game copyright is less long, because the game Shadowrun released in 1990's sometime was re-made in 2007 without any formal buying of copyright as far is know. So copyright on game names must be less long. HOwever game content copyright is probably much longer. Well some discussion has come of spam :) My bad :P I am a designer so only really know in depth about copy law from that aspect.... But from that example you said.... 17 years sounds awfully familiar for patients on products (think of Hoovers) so maybe as a game is a product it may be 17 years...... either way there is no issue here, they just need to update. [/hide] :) no problem; but something i thoughtg i'd add: Cliff Richard no longer gets royalties from some of his first songs because they were over 50 years ago  , and he's still alive. Anyone can plaguerise his work now. \ \ Back on topic: NO-ones going to steal the copyright for runescape, Jagex just gotta udpdate the site. But if someone did uby the copyright b4 jagex i would laugh :) especially when the theives got sued to hell. Hehe, and the beatles don't have copright on theirs either..... Michal Jackson Bought all the rights :P but thats getting kinda off topic now! (in other news.... hey your from Preston! *waves from Bolton*) Yep i definately see a hand in that direction

  10. Jagex may have thought there'd be less players after there unpopular updates, so didn't think it was cost effective to have so many worlds. Justa thought.
  11. Backups of the whole RS database are made each day at about 6am English time. This includes your stats/xp, any reports you've made and any odd activity that has been picked up by the system that finds bots, multiloggers and others. Also your trades and stakes are recorded So you got 4 recorded things; Stats Reports Security System Data Transactional Jagex can only see from these, or any messages sent in my player moderators. Report windows last about 4 minutes I think though, not one; and i think they record slightly after the report is made aswell. NOt completely sure aobut that though.
  12. A game shouldn't be about having to put up with the game, it should be about having fun, or becoming the best; whatever floats your boat really. I don't want ot have to pay to put up with a game, so i quit.
  13. Similar story for me mate, Runescape helped my grades...Actually: My Motivation and Runescape were heavily linked. Like you, i was hacked, and i played 3 hours a day, efficiently skilling. I got A's in all subjects until i was hacked and then it slipped downhill. I will be able to pull most of them back. I have now quit completely and think i am on my way back up. I was highly motivated on RS and in RL; but was forced to seperate motivation and Runescape success. You gotta go cold turkey to getg out of it mate, otherwise your not gonna bounce back IRL. i don't think i've gone cold turkey enough, seeing as i'm on these forums still, so have doubts for my grades. You gotta let RS go i'm afraid. Well atleast i had to. Hanging on only reminds you of how much you lost.
  14. I have quit RS, i gave all my possessions away, but of course i didn't want my account deleted or banned; i even got my moderator status removed to stop me going back. I still linger here because i think i can do some good, and i have nothing else to do that fills RS's boots. I have a vast RS and in some areas, IRL knowledge that people on this forum possibly could benefit from tuning in to. I can still be useful here so i post here. I also still post cos it reminds me of the good old days, i still haven't quite let go.

  16. I don't exactly regret runescape, i've learnt alot; and its shown me what i can achieve, its taught me how to avoid emotional and financial blows, and taught me how to bare them. Its shown me how not to run a business, and therefore how to run a business. And its made me a lot more outgoing IRL. :) However i've learnt as much as i'm going to, and i've quit. I've lived a 'practice lifetime' so to speak in the space of 6 years and i understand things alot better now. A good part of 3 years sacrificed for the best i hope.
  17. Yeah definately. Bots did help i think overall. I don't mind that they made money IRL; but i do mind that they made raw material gathering less profitable. However i profited and bought raws cheap.
  18. I gained 80 mil getting 99 magic by alching! I mined the essence, made the nats. 180k of it all. Bought the logs and the flax.
  19. I'd drop them Thieving or Fletching (up to lvl 40) because they can be done at low levels and they be done in existing f2p locations. People could pickpocket guards in f2p. Fletching can be done anywhere. jagex won't want to give them any location specific ones like hunter which start well into P2P territory. Herblores an option aswell. HOwever i don't expect to see any F2p hand-me downs flying around.
  20. Innovative ideas such as Law running have been removed. No more PKing, staking or reallistically profitable PvP. No more merching. Rares crashing. Nanny state. Players stuck at their relative status for ever. On a happy note, the bots have gone, so they won't be going down with RS! \
  21. Naaa, the maturity level is just so low (-200) that noobs have forgotton how to type, so they can no longer say 'noob'.
  22. slayer and rcing is still one of the major money makings that hasn't been cut out. some of us still find them enjoyable. I think i have done my fair share of RC, fletching, hunting and most skills already. I turned to duelling ad staking for my fun and income, but now it is gone.
  23. That is, like, completly defeating the purpose of playing RS. Its a game! Play it to have fun . Fun is a side-effect of becoming the better :-w :) . however i no longer have fun on RS  Anyway what i mean is i play Shooters, to earn money IRL (side-effect fun!).
  24. I barely ever PKed, staked or merchanted, but these updates made me quit. I stil dwell in these forums though. The staking update hit me worst though, because then i knew i could never be more than an average joe, earning average wages. The only way i could ever get better than anyoe else would be to play for hours and hours a day, but never actually surpass many people still. All oppurtunities to go from rich to poor or poor to rich are gone. I wil never have a chance of being anywhere near the best, so i quit. THe community is 'clogged', nobody can become (relatively) better than anyone else. Tis not good. I don't pay to be the same as everyone else, i pay to be better.
  25. Any sort of possible trading problems lead us back on to the shaday topic of RWIT, Jagex and us.
