  1. Father's side of the family - my great great grandfather lived on the west coast of Ireland (farming or some such thing) moved to Scotland in the 19th century. My aunt recently looked more into this side of the tree and knows more than I do. Mother's side - has ties to Worcestor and borders of Scotland areas. Some semi-famous sculptors in the 19th century also I believe.
  2. Yeah, pretty much screams Ohio to me. The Simpsons takes place in the fictional American town of Springfield, without any geographical coordinates or references to U.S. states that might identify what part of the country it represents. Nevertheless, fans have tried to determine the town's location by taking the town's characteristics, surrounding geography, and nearby landmarks as clues. As a response, the show has become intentionally deceptive in regard to Springfield's location. Commentators have suggested, and then ruled out, nearly every U.S. state and region as the basis for Springfield.[30] Only once, in season 11, did an episode "Behind the Laughter", describe the Simpsons as a "Northern Kentucky family". However, there are many counterexamples to contradict this statement, so it acts merely as a teaser for increasingly curious fans. Groening has said that Springfield has much in common with Portland, Oregon, the city where he grew up.[31] The name "Springfield" is a common one in America and appears in over half of the states.[32] Springfield's geography, and that of its surroundings, contain coastlines, deserts, vast farmland, tall mountains, or whatever the story or joke requires.[33] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_simpsons#Setting They aren't based anywhere in real life. Also "in the Simpsons Movie Ned shows Bart the four states that border Springfield which are Ohio, Nevada, Maine, and Kentucky."
  3. There are two Springfields in Scotland trying to get the UK premiere. One is just about 15-20 miles from me.
  4. You have to remember that it still is an off topic forum. Not a forum just for serious discussion. I think your main argument we all agree with though and Futurama posted a topic here about splitting the ot board into a more serious board and a less serious one. (unfortunately it seems to have been caught up in that bug yesterday and hasn't been moved back here yet. When it gets moved back I will link you to it. But eels is right, if everyone ignored these annoying topics then they would die off themselves, instead of everyone posting on every thread about how crap the topic is and how it should be reported and how you are fed up with them all.
  5. To be perfectly honest I prefer the way the way the board is now. I like reading some serious and some not so serious topics on the forum. When it was general and p2p I would read them less often but now I read it quite a lot for some reason. I don't find it too fast and I don't find it too difficult to navigate through.
  6. These adverts are a real pain for me also. I'm having trouble browsing the forum at all with them. I am pretty sure the admins are looking at this situation. Don't fret too much while this is worked out. :P
  7. This is true. I was planning to close it earlier but it's been too close to call so I left it up.
  8. I quite agree. Hoping something will be done about it soon  In the mean time please use this thread. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=670761
  9. I know!! But I'm not allowed to say it or Phil will hunt me down.. :ohnoes: only cause you cheated.
  10. famous on runescape? Nope. I doubt anyone here even knows my rs nick. :P
  11. Too weak? In what way? The Scottish game is about as physical as you can get, unfortunetly. People said the same about Larsson, that he wouldn't have been able to handle the EPL. He went on to prove that wrong when he was nearing the end of his career.
  12. 24... Matt, Zez, and N0va. Uloveme also. (sorry for off topic )
  13. I use runetracker.dk. It's much like the site Bauke posted above. http://runetracker.dk/usr/default.asp?id=2470 My stats and what I've been doing.
  14. Definitely can't wait for this game. I'm going to be building a new computer soon so that I will be able to play it. :P
  15. A few weeks ago we were drinking with this guy who was up from England, he was about 18/19 stone. He wanted to show us his party trick, he only does it when he's drunk apparently. So he got up and just did the splits, was pretty funny. "My legs say no, but my body says f... you" Classic.
  16. in 1999 I went with my parents to Turkey. First night there, there was an earthquake (5.2) Everyone slept outside the next night, was kinda funny to watch. Later in the holiday I saw an old lady step off a moving bus type thing and crack her head open on the road. I later fainted due to shock and the heat. Same holiday we went on a boat trip to Rhodes, we tried to exchange some currency but the shop had just closed so we decided to trade with a local woman. We ended up mixing up the exchange rate and so we were left with a few pounds worth of cash, which we soon found out. She must have got off with about ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã40 or ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã50. Our fault though. Yeah that was an interesting holiday :P Have had little mishaps on a lot of holidays but none that bad.
  17. I think that's going a little over the top there. You don't think making the forums a friendlier and more interesting place is worth it? I certainly do and if that means doing a few more moves and locks (which I don't think it will to that extent) then I will gladly do it. I think over time it will cut down the amount of moderating we have to do on the OT board because every thread wont be turned into a spamfest because it doesn't suit some users tastes, like it sometimes does at the moment.
  18. Funny you should mention this Rob since it has been brought up between staff the past couple of weeks , with all this board reorganisations going on. It's still in the early stages at the moment but if the majority of off topic users wanted it I don't see why it shouldn't be done. My thinking towards it was having a 'discussions' type board for more serious topic and then having a normal off topic board where random topics could go. If it did happen I wouldn't like to see it become a spam board though where every comment is pointless, so don't expect that.
  19. I'm not surprised really. July usually has the highest average rainfall for the year in most parts of the UK anyway.
  20. I think he sounds more like Captain Obvious really
  21. Pushed under the carpet? Lets look at how much Video games has flourished since a sub-forum you didnt see as many video game discussions on off-topic before the making of the sub-forum. I think it will improve its activity as people often forget about it being near the bottom of the board. Exactly, I think it will help increase activity in it. If it turns out that it does the opposite then yes we can easily turn it back to the way it is at the moment. I'm not trying to hide it away and stop people from visiting it. Why would I want to do that to a board I helped create?
  22. billy connolly peter kay lee evans these guys just crack me up every time I see them do stand up.
  23. Well there's people that are going to think this just because it doesn't favour their own personal opinion. I don't really see how they are skewed myself.
  24. Why wait until then though?
