Well... I've gotten D Axes at DKs, although I feel that it doesn't count, as that is actually a fairly COMMON drop there, compared to such things as steel dragons. So I've never gotten a dragon drop (besides DKs)

As a person who has done all the quests, I say MEP2. With RFD, you can take a break after a minigame or something, but with MEP2, you HAVE to do all at once. If you leave, I think mirrors get reset? Plus in RFD, some parts are easy, and there's no uber-pure monsters attacking you during the whole quest...

Wait... Rune is too expensive and dragon has horrible stats? I think you have that mixed up, and rune doesn't have bad stats anyways... You will spend a LOT on repairs, and if you train sensibly, most monsters won't hit hard on rune anyways.
