That's your thread. This is looking at the topic from a different perspective. Thank you. I am not chicken little saying that rares are dying...I am looking at this situation economically and trying to see if others agree with what I view.

So what do you guys think of the voracious demand for santas/green masks and blue masks? People are buying left and right because they know the price will go up. But after a while, what happens? I was reading wikipedia on bubbles and came across an interesting phenomenon. Popular among laymen but recently discredited by empirical research, greater fool theory portrays bubbles as driven by the behavior of a perennially optimistic market participants (the fools) who buy overvalued assets in anticipation of selling it to other rapacious speculators (the greater fools) at a much higher price. According to this unsupported explanation, the bubbles continue as long as the fools can find greater fools to pay up for the overvalued asset. The bubbles will end only when the greater fool becomes the greatest fool who pays the top price for the overvalued asset and can no longer find another buyer to pay for it at a higher price. Prices in an economic bubble can fluctuate chaotically, and become impossible to predict from supply and demand alone. This is how I see the small rare market. Before GE, merchants like myself bought rares and tried to sell for higher. Half the time it worked and half the time I lost money. But what controlled the prices was not necessarily the supply. It was the demand created by holidays like x-mas, and h'ween. Now, with GE and unbalanced trade, the general idea was that merchanting was killed. People started selling lower. And buyers/potential buyers knew that GE would also lower prices if everyone sold low. Thus, no one bought those rares except a few people who really wanted them. The santa price hit rock bottom at 11.3mil from a high of 21.9mil. Now that prices have suddenly started to increase, I am predicting a huge bubble burst.

wow gratz. i was one the people who messaged you. i thought you were antisocial or something cuz u didnt respond. Didnt realize you had 1000s of pms.. -
I am a blue mask owner. Two of them. I am currently worshipping the GE \ \ \ It creates demand for certain items and you defenitely know whether prices are going up or down. Watch...santas will go up to 20mil before demand is lowered. But then again, for other items like lobsters...it is useless. Jagex will not lower the price from 201 ea. Thats being communist right there. People are selling for min price so the avg price should go down. Not stay the same. I mean that kind of price control is terrible IMO.

i will buy that santa face to face. good profit for you. :D but seriously rares arent dead. There is just too much demand for items like green and santa. Here is a thought. What if hypothetically jagex put the upper limit (max price)on santas at 100mil? Just for santas. Would the price automatically go to 100mil.

omg. very nice! But I still own you in mining. -
buying a 99 is so easy. 99fm = about 100k maples = 5mil. 99 cooking = 105k raw lobbs = 25mil then you sell the lobbs for 170ea. I have bought both those 99s before. But actually taking the time to cook those lobbs and burn those maples....that takes a while. I went up two fm levels and then thats it. I was not motivated at all.

After buying a Santa, Rate My BOB
anim7 replied to NoMoreDead's topic in Achievements (Drops, Bank Pictures and Levels)
you dont really keep up with the rares market do you? Anyone with a santa at this time is guaranteed a 1-2 mil profit. Everyone buys at max ge price and there is a lack of sellers. Demand is through the roof on santas. on topic: very nice items! -
1mil xp per week? If you nolyfed, maybe. Even with runners, rc xp per hour was around 20-25k. Thats about 90k per 4 hours of continuous play. 30-32k per hour was possible but only if you are super high level and offered "open 2.2k"

I was caught in the nick of the moment. If I had forseen that demand, I would have bought. Fortunately I did snag a green mask at min price just seconds before the boom. Sold that thing for a nice profit. And I forsee my blue rising as soon as santa hits 14-14.5mil. Blues are in for one drop because right now, people are selling at min price. So by next week, santas should be around 14.5m and blues around 15mil. At which point the price for santas should slow down. Traditionally blues have been higher than santas, so as the saying goes "every dog has his day"...or "every colored mask has its rise"...] As for the reason why santas jumped? I think it was a risky move by several rich people who manipulated the prices by buying them at reg price. There was some agreement that santas at 11.3 was too low and so others starting jumping on the bandwagon. Pretty soon, a boom started and now it is full of momentum.

I personally disapprove of rs girlfriends. It is just creepy IMO. If you want somebody like that, just go out and find one. If you are in high school, then thats the perfect place to build relationships. For those of you who want a girl but are too afraid to try, then listen to this. Girls are just as nervous as you are. I remember telling this one girl that I liked her and she started acting really nervous and she was afraid to tell me she liked me also.
