  1. O... k... How many sidescrolling shooters were there? How many platform games? How many top-down space shooters? Retro and modern games both have their genres. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that in retro games, the amount of variation within the genre was/is far smaller than in modern games.
  2. How do the cells realize that a mutation is beneficial or not? They don't. No matter how favored or not a trait is does not make cells self aware. Unless you are assuming that cells choose the better mutations over the bad mutations. You are foolish. I'm not saying that to flame you I'm saying that to point out your blunder in trying to say that cells know the difference between a useful mutation and a bad mutation. Where, at any point, did I say that the cell knows what is going on? All I did was point out that there are benificial and non-benificial mutations, how both can be passed down, and why the idea you suggested of an entire organism being non-beneficially mutated is ridiculous. Yes, most mutations are not benificial. Yes, cells don't know whether a mutation is benificial or not. However, most mutations are also harmless, either because the cells in which they occur simply die out or because their effect is not significant. I'll try to slow it down for you: 1. Mutations occur. 2. Animals will reproduce. 3. The chances for reproduction are limited due to various natural circumstances (limited amount of food, limited amount of mates, etc.) 4. Because of those limitations, only the species that are best adapted to them will reproduce. 5. Reproduction causes these adaptations to be passed down to future generations. A. A mutation is harmful and isn't beneficial. B. A mutation isn't harmful and isn't beneficial. C. A mutation isn't harmful and is benificial. A The mutation has a negative effect on the individiual's chances to reproduce. Reproduction will occur at a less frequent rate for individuals with this mutation, and the mutation will eventually die out. B The mutation has no effect on the individual's chances to reproduce. The rate of reproduction of the mutation is dependant on other factors. The mutation isn't encouraged, but isn't discouraged either. See: six toes. C The mutation has a positive effect on the individual's chances to reproduce. Reproduction will occur at a more frequent rate for individuals with this mutation, and the mutation will become more frequent within the species.
  3. No need to be sad. He had a good run, accomplished his goals, said what he had to say.
  4. I could've done without the Scrin being playable. When you play Scrin, everything can be won by digging in and spamming turrets, then climbing up the tech tree, then creating a few motherships and just fly on over.
  5. Non-beneficial mutations don't disprove macroevolution. Basically, there are three possible qualities of mutation: [*:3vff6ecb]Damaging: the mutation has a negative effect on the individual's ability to reproduce and pass on its genes. These mutations quickly die out. [*:3vff6ecb]Useless: the mutation doesn't have a negative effect on the individual's ability to reproduce, but doesn't damage it either. The trait caused by the mutation isn't favoured, but it can still be passed on. A twist on useless mutations is the rudimentary organs; traits that were once useful but no longer are, yet still pass on to future generations because they haven't become damaging (yet). See: tailbone, appendix, etc.. [*:3vff6ecb]Useful: the mutation has a positive effect on the individual's ability to reproduce. The trait gets passed on to future generations and becomes more common. An example of a useless mutation that doesn't harm the individual's ability to reproduce is the sixth toe. Some people have it, yet it would give them no advantage if they were still living on the plains, hunting and gathering. At the same time, it wouldn't hurt to have either. All it really affects negatively is your ability to shop for shoes.
  6. Scissor me timbers!
  7. I'm not allowed to quote my first post, since it was made in the Dutch Angels forum.
  8. Is it very wrong that I'd rather see a NOD-controlled world than a GDI-controlled one? Also, kinda anticlimactic that they gave you acces to the ion cannon in the very first mission of the GDI campaign. "We accidentally stumbled across a minor NOD base, so here's our most powerful and expensive orbital weapon to completely wipe it off the face of the planet." ...and I wanna be a NOD shadow when I grow up :D
  9. Right now people here who want to use marihuana for medical purposes just go to coffeeshops like the recreational users. I think it'd be better if medical marihuana could be grown under governement supervision. That way quality can be controlled and the mariuhana can be obtained directly from the doctor or pharmacy. Since recreational users have their coffeeshop, we don't have to worry about them trying to get access to the medical stuff.
  10. When a singer refuses to travel with the rest of the band and continuously threatens to walk out on them, there's not much else they can do... All the music was written by the rest of the band, and I'm pretty sure they'll make sure her replacement is good enough.
  11. I usually carry a knife around to use as a tool. I wouldn't really need it here even if it was useful as a weapon, since my city is pretty safe and I'm a pretty big guy.
  12. Well, there's an RPG/Shooter being produced by the original Diablo team that looks pretty promising. Hellgate: London, if anyone's interested. As for Diablo II, have druids always been this cheap? I've started a new one, dumping every available skillpoint in Firestorm, a level 1 skill that only costs 4 mana to use, and I'm dealing 150+ fire damage per second at the beginning of act 2...
  13. Appearantly Cousin Itt isn't in their database :|
  14. Sounds like they're pointlessly milking the game. I already thought the PC version was too much
  15. Hard to say... Guess it would have to be Abraxas by Therion.
  16. I haven't really heard anything that blows me away yet, but there's a new Genitorturers album and a new Haggard album planned for this year that I can't wait for. My biggest dissapointment so far is Therion - Gothic Kaballah -.-
  17. Hogan singlehandedly built wrestling in the 80s, then all but destroyed it in the 90s. He should have retired when he left WWF. Now he's just known as the greedy egomaniac that run WCW into the ground.
  18. As far as I know, there's no extra content or anything, and it's not exactly a game you pick up for graphics anyway :P
  19. Liam Gallagher, appearantly...
  20. Arrows to move and z/x for regular and charge shot, if I recall correctly.
  21. SACRED FECES at that spot in the MitB match. Both Jeff Hardy and Edge are clinically insane. Other than that, the match was pretty entertaining. Besides the Edge/Jeff spot nothing really insane on the level of Shelton Benjamin the past two years, but they seemed to be working well together. Edge taking out three guys with one spear and Matt Hardy threatening to hit the Twist of Fate on Sharmell were nice touches. The comedy stuff (Booker accidentally grabbing the stepladder, Hornswoggle trying to climb the ladder for Finlay) was also worked in pretty well. I'm not sure if Kennedy should've won, but I guess he makes the most sense. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire match, which doesn't happen much these days. Kennedy = future of SmackDown!. Did Kane always have an inverted pentagram in his entrance video? Anyway, it was mercifully short. Why do they keep digging up Moolah and Mae Young? Wouldn't be surprised to find out that those two got into the wrestling business as valets for Frank Gotch. MVP = money. Why the hell didn't they let him do the mat wrestling on SmackDown!? Even though he lost this match will be remembered as the place where his career begun to take off. "Don't fear the end. Pray for it." - Somehow Undertaker can still give me goosebumps. What on earth were they thinking booking the SmackDown! title match in the midcard? It's the World Heavyweight Championship! It's the Undertaker's streak! It's the Royal Rumble winner! Also, Taker's entrance sucked this year. After his regular music hit it was pretty much just an extended version of his SmackDown! entrance. Undertaker was flying on auto pilot, but I guess it was as good as it was going to get with Batista in it. At least they got the crowd into it. Vince in full-out demented mode is bloody entertaining, and I'm glad he didn't book himself in a match this year. Seeing Styles and Tazz sit at their wrecked table was a great shot. The match itself was surprisingly good. Again, it made me wonder why they don't display this kind of quality in the weekly show. To be honest I would've booked the New Breed to go over, considering how many originals are supposed to be close to leaving and/or getting canned. The Battle of the Billionaires looked like a good celebrity angle on paper, but with all the video packages and interviews they ran on it I got tired of it a month before Wrestlemania, especially since the outcome was so obvious. The match itself was clearly going to be the Austin show, but considering the people involved it wasn't too painful to watch. I actually want to see more Umaga, I think he's capable of greatness. They rung the bell before Austin counted three, which is a bit sloppy for the greatest show of the year. I like how, except for Mickie James, all the divas that can actually wrestle (Victoria, Melina, Jillian Hall) are heels while all the playboy cover girls are faces. Glad Melina retained, match itself was typical diva stuff. I miss Trish and Lita. Cena's entrance would have been great if it had anything to do with his gimmick. Still, it was fun to watch. Michaels did a decent job carrying Cena, although I wonder who is left to beat him for that title now. There haven't been three main event wins in a row at Mania since Hogan. General notes: I like how they modified some of the entrance themes. I want more Hornswoggle. Lots more. Of all the people that didn't make it on the card this year, I think I missed London and Kendrick more than anyone. Where the hell is the tag division? Interesting that they decided to hold next year's show in TNA's back yard.
  22. ...Yikes....?Stanhope = Trainwreck. :P I dunno' if he's funny or not, but he, as a person, is...quite the character. My favourite comedians are the ones that are teetering so close to the edge that they walk around wearing a toe tag just to save the guys at the morgue some time. Happy comedians just aren't funny. "Don't you like it when you go out shopping with your girlfriend and you have lunch and it's tasty and then you kiss?". :-X
  23. ...Yikes....?
