A charcoal drawing...
I wonder if any of you remember these guys. It's not supposed to be Abe, just a random Mudokon. Charcoal on paper, with a little help from q-tips and kneadable eraser.

Nintendo 3DS
Bump since the release date has been announced: February 26th, 2011 for Japan, March for the rest of the world. It'll be priced at ~220/$300, so around the price of current home consoles. I'm really torn on whether or not I should buy this one on the very first day, since there will probably be new models released within the first year after its release. At the same time, it's still awesome, and unlike the original DS it actually looks to be a pretty complete package. Some people think there's two types of gamers, hardcore and casual. In fact the two types are a bit more complex. There's people who love to have weird abstract fun as part of their lives, some hardcore and some less so often in more casual ways. That's actually one type. The other type has no fun at all, but plays incredibly easy, but incredibly addictive action games and consider themselves as involved in some kind of competitive environment. The latter type generally dismiss handheld games because they must be simple, small, uncomplicated games, right? They have to be. They just have to. The most difficult and complex games, the ones requiring any degree of complex thought, are on PC, PSP and DS. Nothing is happening on the console front of any depth, save for Demon's Souls and some pretty nifty downloadables, most of which are on PC. What console games do well is action, and in that regard, they are losing ground to handhelds very quickly. I don't speak for all types of gamers obviously, I'm just interested in pure game design. In that regard, home consoles have been mostly laughable for this generation with a few bright spots. I don't think 3D is a massive deal, but I'm sure it will be a fun element for a few good games, and that will be enough.

Pokemon Thread
Judging from what I've seen so far, my in-game team would be something along the lines of... Starter (haven't decided yet) Gochiruzeru (dual screen utility pokémon) Shandera (special sweeper) Kirikizan (physical sweeper) Furiijio (special wall) Nattorei (physical wall) This is just what I'd try to go for if the game were to come out tomorrow, trying to make a team that consists entirely of fifth gen pokémon with decent type/role coverage. As far as I can tell Gochiruzeru is the only version exclusive pokémon on that list, and that can easily be fixed thanks to Wi-Fi trading. Obviously by the time the game comes out over here I'll probably have changed my plans more than once, but this is what I came up with on my first try.

Ratchet573's Top 25 Games You Should Own
There's four reasons why Saints Row 2 is a better game than GTA IV: - Character customization. Sure, GTA IV had different clothes, but your choice was pretty much limited to various shades of brown and grey. In SR2, you could go on a mission in a ballroom dress, then change into a prison jumpsuit and bloody hockey mask to go on a chainsaw murder spree afterwards. You control every aspect of your character, all the way down to their voice and the way they move. This makes it very easy for the player to feel connected with their character. - As an extension of the first point, in SR2, you're working for yourself from the very start of the game. With GTA IV, you're running around doing other people's dirty work for pretty much the first 90% of the game. With SR2, everything you do serves one person and one person only: you. - The moment you finish the second mission in SR2, you're free to go where you want and do whatever you want. You can get any gun, steal any car, fly any plane, play any minigame. In contrast, GTA IV seems to hold your hand throughout the game. You don't even get a gun until about an hour into the game, and even then the number of weapons available to you is really limited. Likewise, two thirds of the game map is locked out. - Something that Saints Row 2 does really well is take random elements that people might do for fun in sandbox crime games, and reward them for it. If you give people the option to clothe themselves, they'll start running around naked sooner or later. Might as well reward them for it. It's the same with the various diversions that are available in the game, a lot of them are basically things you'd do in a sandbox game to kill time anyway. At the same time, the only way Niko can entertain himself in Liberty City seems to be watching TV.

I tried that, and it didn't work. It also reverted my theme back to the default Windows XP theme and removed my wallpaper.

Dual monitors, dual wallpapers in Windows XP
I recently got myself a free monitor, and I've decided to make a dual monitor setup on my Windows XP laptop. Because I'm running different resolutions, I've been trying to set each monitor its own wallpaper. I've managed to make this workaround work, but there's a small but very annoying problem. The text under my desktop icons now has the desktop's background colours around them, both on the desktop using the desktop items background and the one using the regular wallpaper. Is there any way to get rid of that?

UFC 116: Main Event - Fixed?
Yeah, it definitely wasn't as bad as it looked, and Carwin was blown up by the end of the first round. Obviously Lesnar is probably the only fighter on the planet who could beat Carwin simply by letting him punch the face until he got tired. Funnily enough, Lesnar's loss against Mir was the perfect example of a ref calling things too soon. There was no way Lesnar was punching intentionally for the back of the head.

Well, this looks fun. (VERY nsfw)
Well, if they were going to do a 'mainstream' Mortal Kombat film, they'd pretty much have to cut all the ridiculous supernatural elements. I loved the character design shown in the trailer. I think that the way they're doing things in the trailer (a 'natural' explanation for supernatural features) is definitely the way to go.
