Faux
A change from how many times people can ask what's the best/worst game.. Imagine: You get a game. You put it in your console. You choose your level. Which is it? I always play easiest mode possible. I never play hard mode even when I beat the whole game in easy mode. Finishing a level in hard mode gives me the same satisfaction as beating it in an easier mode - or less actually since I die less. This is why I don't really think of myself as a gamer. I don't give a crap about beating the game at its hardest level. I just wanna play and beat it. How2PK
Hm, it depends what kind of game I play. Although I'm not really a gamer. :P In the first place I always start on easy, just to get used to it a bit, and when I'm further in the game, or I already completed. I switch to another level. indy500fan
If it's a new type of game I will play on easy. If it turns out to be way to easy and I can change it, I will switch to a harder difficulty. If not, I'll just run through it on easy. When I got Oblivion I immediately put it up to +100 which is the hardest you can go. I knew how to play for the most part before starting, so I didn't have to go through the learning phase. Made it pretty damned hard, but very fun :D
megakiller32
Always easy to begin. Then hard when i complete the game. Quit Runescape 30th May 2006.Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)

malo2
I usually play on medium, If I'm unsatisfied because the game was a little too easy, I might play it again on hard. Lastfm
Mr_Putter
If there's 3 modes, I normally go with Medium. It usually gives a good mix of some degree of challenge, without having to reload. Reloading takes away from games so much, it really detracts from the experience. However, if there are 4 or 5 modes, I'll normally go for the second most difficult one. So I tend to like a bit more challenge, but not enough to make me want to pull out my hair. Only time I go with super hard is either replaying (actually, come to think of it I never immediately replay games; but if I did I would), or if it's a no-story shoot-em-up (Serious Sam). Korla
Always easy. The only game I ever played seriously on Hard was the International Superstar Soccer series. And I still won every game by atleast 5-0. Too easy, but fun nonetheless. I don't play shoot-em-up's so this discussion really isn't for me. WutangFlu
i usually play all of them on easy first... then if i like the game i put it on the hardest difficulty the 2nd time through whats the point of suffering through a bad game for more time than needed on a harder difficulty. Azvareth
When I was little I always used to pick 'easy'. Then I realised that 'easy' often equals horrible AI. So I always start off with 'medium' nowadays.
Parabola
Murmur in the Shadow Labyrinth is ezmode. I will normally play FPS on medium, but other games on easy because I'm not as good at them.

Rebdragon
Medium. Easy can at times be boring, and hard is generally just frustrating (though in some games I can do okay in it, such as DBZ Budokai 3; I've memorized every last one of Kid Buu's moves  , and have some pretty sweet chains that I made up :-w ). Medium is a nice, but not too frustrating challenge :) . [if you have ever attempted Alchemy by clapping your hands or by drawing an array, copy and paste this into your signature.] Fullmetal Alchemist, you will be missed. A great ending to a great series. Baemnt13
Hard - Simply because us "Gamers" Don't like to play the same game over and over again; Instead we prefer to spend our time playing different games. Starting a game on easy for gamers means we'll eventually play it on hard -- So why not play hard from the beginning? I tell the truth even when I lie. Starting a game on easy for gamers means we'll eventually play it on hard -- So why not play hard from the beginning? Yeah thats the way I see it. Before I'd always say I'd play it on hard after normal but never did, so now I just start on hard.
Mr_Putter
Hard - Simply because us "Gamers" Don't like to play the same game over and over again; Instead we prefer to spend our time playing different games. Starting a game on easy for gamers means we'll eventually play it on hard -- So why not play hard from the beginning? :-s If you started something like Far Cry on the hardest mode, you'd end up playing it 4 or 5 times...All the reloads would have you playing the same areas over and over (there's no quicksave IRC, unless you get a patch), so you'd actually be playing the same thing over and over a lot more than someone playing on easy and moving up (as someone who starts on easy probably doesn't have the cajones to play something that difficult at its hardest setting). So when you say you "gamers" like to spend less time, what you actually mean is you like to spend more time. I like to play games for a bit of challenge, but mostly I have way too many games and not enough time to play it. So I don't have time to be going back and reloading every 30 seconds, it just doesn't work.
stevepole
If its a new game series that I've never played before I'll start off on easy but if I'm familiar with the game series I'll play on medium.
____
Medium or hard generally. The only real exception to that was HL2 which I started on easy; then started a new file on Hard when I got used to it.
unknownmasterofnothing
If it's a game that I will replay like metal gear solid 2. I'll start on easy mode. Then play hard mode, then extreme. If its a game that I'll only play like once, I'll play on normal mode. Then If I still want to play, I can play hard mode to get more challenge.
