So... contact lenses...

 

 

 

I'm on a 2 week trial right now from Specsavers so im still getting used to them but i'd like to know other peoples experiences with them. Daily disposables (what ive got) as opposed to monthlys etc.

 

 

 

They still feel a bit weird atm but they arnt uncomfortable.

I've used monthly disposables for a little while now. They're not the greatest, and they get uncomfortable at times, but I don't complain because it's the best alternative to wearing glasses. You'll get used to them easily, and it just becomes part of the daily routine.

 

 

 

Just make sure to keep your glasses handy, nothing worse than getting up after a night out and having to put your contacts in straight away.

Indeed, I don't need glasses myself, but there have been occasions when someone I know who uses contacts has not had their glasses with them when they've been out somewhere. Then their contacts have started to hurt so they had to take them out and since they don't have glasses handy they have to make their way home half-blind.

I had a horrible experience with those. My right eye has a major astigmastism, and after going through 3 different prescriptions I just quit them all together. The contact on my right eye would move around, turn upside down, and got me in a few close calls on the road.

It's not so bad for me, because I never really wore glasses before I got contacts. I had a pair I used for watching TV and reading and stuff, but my vision isn't too horrible I suppose.

Despite what some people say, I've never gotten used to wearing them. I mean, they still hurt after an 8 hour day (or less), and I don't just 'forget about them'. And I've had them for I think 2 years now.

My mate at Uni recently had laser eye surgery, but before he was on dailys and monthlys. He regrets it. He's had lots of trouble since the surgery and wishes he just stuck with contacts. He said after a couple of weeks it's just routine and he barely noticed them, which I guess is the best thing possible.

Depends on where you live. I live in desert conditions and just gave up on contacts since it's too dry. Not to mention the odd sandstorm can catch you with your eyes down.

I think everyone starts out like that, your eyes just need to get used to them. I can wear mine for 24+ hours without much discomfort (not recommended).

Im gonna keep em in til about 3 then take them out. That will be 7 hours

boot do a wonderful moisturising drops that come in individual sachets- about ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã6 for 30 vials.

 

i used to use them when i had contacts (had to give them up as medication dried up my tear ducts and i don't produce enough tears to moisturise the lenses.) i miss my contacts

I use to wear contacts, but I have terrible eye alergies. Even if I have the contacts made for just that purpose, my eyes and face swell up after a couple days and I can't get them in at all :|

 

Glasses for life I guess.

I used to have 2 week contacts for about a year, but people said I look better in glasses so switched back. Still use my lenses for sport and stuff though.

It's best to use glasses when you are working on your computers / watching TV (or so my doctor told me). The first days are pretty weird, but you get used to it pretty quickly.

 

If you keep having trouble with the lenses getting dry, ask your doctor to give some liquid to drip in your eyes when you are having trouble with it.

 

 

 

The only real trouble I have with my lenses is when I have to sleep-over somewhere, it's a drag to take the little pots and the liquid..

i couldn't wear them. my eyes won't tolerate em for some reason.

 

 

 

i couldn't keep em in for more than 3 hours without them being unbearable...so i just wear glasses still...or none at all as my vision isn't bad. only need them to read the board in class

I've recently changed the brand of lenses I use. I was using Focus daily disposable Torics, but they were really uncomfortable so now I'm trying Johnson and Johnson 1Day Acuvue for astigmatism. The good thing about the dailies is that you don't have to worry about farting around with little pots and cleaning solutions. My eyes tend to become dry and itchy whenever I wear lenses, so I don't wear them all that often. I don't like driving in them either. My vision is far better when I wear my glasses.

 

 

 

I woke up one morning thinking that I had been blessed with the miracle of sight, until I realised that I'd been too pissed up to remember to take my lenses out before I went to bed. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone though as my eyes were incredibly itchy that day.

I wear the soft kind (http://www.acuvue.com/acuvue_oasys.htm) and have been for the past four years. I don't have a problem with them at all. These are bi-weekly disposables and I wear them from about 8 in the morning until midnight. After awhile, I didn't even notice I was wearing anything. I love having full range of vision (out the sides as compared to glasses) and not having to worry about them falling off if I run, or bend down, etc. It took me a solid month or more to be able to put them in and out easily - but after that, it's a cakewalk. I wouldn't live without them (unless I get laser surgery, or something).

I've had contacts for about 6 months now. They are a bit uncomfortable and a little weird the first coulpe weeks. Mine still fold up, and i need to kinda slide them onto my iris/pupil thingy, but I do like having freedom from glasses.

I have been wearing contacts for years. I remember the first week or two was so frustrating trying to put them in each day. Other than that they have been great. If I leave them in too much my eyes will get bloodshot but then again that is only when I am wearing them more than I should be. They were a lifesaver for high school sports.

Ive got monthly disposables atm. First i absolutly hated them because my eyes are pretty sensitive. They would go bloodshot and water and all kinds of nasty things, but after a week i could hardly notice them. The one tip my optometrist gave me was not to whack them in and leave it. Put them in for 12 hours, take them out over night, put them in for 24, take them out over night, put them in for 3 days, take them out over night then put them in and you should be able to use them nonstop. And dont worry about the rumours of the contact floating around your eye when you sleep, if you get the right ones it wont happen.

 

 

 

Also a tip for when you're getting them out, dont use your fingernails to "dig" at it. You only make that mistake once... i got a rather nasty cut on my cornea which meant i couldnt open my eye for about 2 days. Horrible pain lol. And i was getting hugely frustrated because i couldnt get them out for a long time before i realised my eye was moving everywhere when my fingers got close (natural defence mechanism or something) so make sure you really concentrate on looking directly at your fingers and not moving your eye.

Good advice about looking at ure fingers not moving ure eye. but I dont need to worry about scratching my cornea with fingernails cus i dont have any :D

I keep my fingernails long so i can play guitar better. In hindsight it probably wouldve been smarter to remember that.

You'll get used to them fast. Maybe start with disposables but after a while you could move into more permanent contact lenses as they are cheaper because you don't need to keep replacing them.

 

 

 

I've never experienced problems with my contacts while being out or anything, so I've never been left blind... I wear them ~16hrs/day and never had a problem in 4 years. Once you get used to it you'll wonder why it took you so long to switch :)
