Nat Strike

Lets imagine that 75% of the nat crafters went on strike. This would lead to a huge rise in nat prices, price decrease in rares, and lowered prices on raw materials. Leave your thoughts on how this would effect the community and economy. Please on flaming, and yes, I realise that it would be quite unrealistic. No spamming please, I really don't wish to see this get locked.

Hmm... stockpiling on nats?

I think people would get fed up and buy for a lot more, causing rares to actually go up as people sold them for more to buy the decreasing amounts of, but more expensive, nats.

It would actually be very stimulating to the economy in my opinion. I'm no economist so don't think I actually know what would happen, but:

Less nats -> higher prices on nats -> less high alching -> Much less money inflow -> lowering prices because the value of a single gp would increase

either that, or the people high alching would probably decide to just make their own nats..

Well, if they make their own, its still WAY slower. Which leads to slowing down the raise in gp and reduction of its value anyway.

Think about it, if they make their own nats, they will take time to do that, and also will alch less for money because they make more profit each alch that way.

Interesting thoughts. I agree that there would be less money flow into the economy, I think this would cause a rise in people leveling none combat skills. Also, there is another possibility to mage training, law runes. I imagine that world 66 would raise in players using it and pure essence would raise in price.

I'd just craft my own. My need for them is so low that I would be willing to take it slow.

Not "huge". Apart from that, 75% of the nat crafters won't go on a strike anyway, because it is still the best money maker for most people anyway.

price decrease in rares

No. Would need to take a long time before it'd start effecting rares, besides rares have already been going sideways / downwards for ~8 months.

and lowered prices on raw materials.

Not much, only on yew logs and other alch-only items anyway.

Many times people have tried to make up this kind of strikes. Sometimes it has been fish, sometimes rune ores, abyssal whips and now nature runes. They have never worked for few different reasons and the main thing being that they still are with current prices a great source of creating money. Second thing is that your idea is impossible: You can't just get thousands of rs players to your unite and try to higher the prices that way. Every time you managed to convince someone, another character hits 44 rc and starts creating natures.

Strikes and rising prices may work if there's only a really small and tight minority who got the ability to do something special. However that hasn't been possible in last few years. We got so many players who are willing to train hard, that there won't be any huge gabs between the top players. Look at slayer for example: the first one to hit 85 slayer wasn't the only 85+ slyer after few days. A week later there were tens of them. Hard to manipulate the prices in that, it's totally different to the days when Blue smithed her runite and addy productions.

If your strike somehow managed to work for some weeks, it would affect to log prices temporary. Lower demand would just make less people cut them and thus balance the supply. Stuff like raw fish or ores wouldn't be affected by the strike unless people really went into mining/fishing/ woodcutting/whatever madness. I don't see that happening, tho. Why? Because even at best, they are nothing compared to rc.

I would make my own and take advantage of the situation by selling them for their inflated price.

If 75% went on strike, and the prices did rise...more people would craft nats and their be a new supply of nat crafters.

nice idee... but its around the same idee as buying for 2100mil coal and rune and selling rune sets for only 135k each (an idee to rise the coal and rune price but lowering the full rune price)

just like i said in my thrwead, I think less nat crafters from ditch made less alchers and less gp in ecomomy, so i just lost 2m from buying a santa 2 weeks ago instead of now

If that would happen, it would not be the end of the world:

#1: There are two shops constantly stocking for nature runes. (mage guild and mage arena) Slow, but still a source of nats.

#2: Monsters still drop nats, so there would still be coming in.

#3: In RS classic when there were no runecrafting skill we got most of our nats from thieving the nature rune chest. A method that is now almost forgot by everyone. But it is still possible.

#4. Probably the biggest reason. People could make their own. Slower, but not that much slower. Worth it if prices go over 400gp each anyways.

Prices would not go higher than 400gp each. At least thats what I think.

although it's meant to be hypothetical my view is that this would never happen, theres more chance of Jagex rereleasing party hats than 75% (out of say what? maybe 500 minimum at a time nat crafting?) stoping crafting
