Prince Harry To Go To War.

Featured Replies

Well its just been confirmed;

Prince Harry to go to war.

Theres been alot of controversy other whether or not he should go for obvious reasons, but what do you think?

If you do not live in England, perhaps think of it as a Prince from your own country going into war.

I doubt he will be let anywhere near any action.

And i couldn't really care if he goes or not and I don't care any more for him than any other soldier serving in Iraq. Im really quite anti-royalist so and the only reason im glad we have them is that they provide more revenue for this country from tourists than they cost to keep. So basically I just try to look at them like any other person.

To be honest, I don't think the royal family have any place joining the armed forces.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

If you join the army, no matter who you are, you should expect to do the same duties and be treated in excatcly the same way as any other soldier. Why should somebody like Prince Harry be treated with extra care when regular soldiers have to do the dangerous jobs?

If he wasn't sent to the frontline like others, there could have been alot of internal conflict in the army, some soldiers would be asking some serious questions and rightly so.

This should never have been an issue in my opinion, after all it's a soldiers job to fight.

Try telling that to the soldiers who are put at unbelievably high risk on patrol with him.

The King always used to go to war. Now shouldn't be any different.

Your topic title "Would you trust a King in Iraq?" does not accurately reflect the subject of the topic "Prince Harry to go to war". Please fix it.

He's not even the first Royal in memory to go to war. I cant remember who it was but someone was a pilot in the Falklands.

Nobody is going to know which unit he is in anyway, that sort of information wont be disclosed. The concept of targetting Harry is ridiculous and unfeasable.

Plus that's not the point - if somebody is allowed to join any branch of the military they must assume they will do the same duties everyone else does. If there was no intention of allowing him to fight then he shouldn't be allowed to enlist in the first place. You can't have it both ways, either you join & take the risks like everybody else or you aren't allowed to join.

Edit - Merc I think it was Prince Andrew who went to the Falklands.

Yeah, and I think since inevitably royals will not get the same treatment as general members of the army they shouldn't be allowed to join.

How far you can believe it I don't know, but

But any hopes the Prince would be able to perform his duties under the "anonymity" of being just another officer were dealt a blow by claims from a Shia commander in Iraq that the Mahdi army had people inside British bases who would leak information about the Prince's arrival.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

Prince Harrys being put in charge of a tank battalion apparently

But you'd think if the attackers were smart, they would constantly go for our prince? And hes only been in the army for not even a year I've heard

I reckon thats just a bit of Mahdi propaganda to be honest. They want to make it look as if Britain is afraid to send its royals because its scared of the militia's. It would make them seem more powerful domestically. I just don't think that any group who had somebody on the inside would advertise it like that.

you mean like George Bush going to war?

I'm all for it...

let him have a taste of his own chaos.

His plans could have been better thought out.

Don't Flame Me.

This is a personal opinion.

Hehe.. george Bush in a warzone.. Someone for the love of God make it so.. I think i would literally die of laughter.

I believe any leader who starts a war should take part in it rather than hide in safety, pushing his own people out to die in a war that he himself started.

*cough*George Bush*cough*

As for Prince Harry, its admirable that hes fighting in the war, though I really don't think its too wise of an idea for him to be out there.

Royals going to war has plenty of historical precedent. More power to him.

And, hey, if he gets killed by some hadji, you Poms are going to get pissed out of your minds and probably turn Iraq into a glass parking lot before your government mothballs your boomer subs.

in my opinion he should NOT go. its not due to the possability of him dieing, but rather the fact that he will put his entire base at risk. once he is there every where he stays becomes a target. why risk othr peoples lives just to pander to a spoilt prince.

well technically he joined the army so he should go. He wants to go and the fact is they all look pretty similar in shaven heads and full battle uniform. they said that when he goes itll be more like a desk job really, he will go out but not often. The fact that the insurgents have said they are specifically targetting him and that he is still willing to go is a pretty good thing itself. Plenty of other members of the royal family have gone to war and some have died. Military careers in the royal family are a massive tradition.

The King always used to go to war. Now shouldn't be any different.

 That's exactly what I was thinking. I wish warfare was still like that, then leaders would have a good reason to avoid it.

He will be sharing that risk right along with them. So?

That's the debate, is it right to put the other soldiers in dreater danger than they would otherwise be? The fact is the insurgents want to kill/capture prince harry, they probably will have some sort of insight into roughly when he would be out on patrol so his convoy and his unit will be in greater danger than normal, is this danger too great to be worth it? Would it be hypocritical and unfair to exclude him from these duties over others? Would it be right to put their lives in greater risk than is necessary?

Good for him, people complain either way "He should go to war, he is getting special treatment" or "He shouldn't go to war he is indangering lives of soliders". I'm glad he is fighting like lots of other soliders. Soliders have a job to do, their job involves danger. I don't think this makes much of a difference, they signed up to fight thats what they should do.

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

I thought that his father was Prince Charles, but he married some other women and now he isn't in line for succession.
