May 7, 200719 yr i was reading through jegex's old updates when i came across this entry about the duplication bug years ago: 7 November 2003 - Duplicated items in game It has come to our attention that someone has worked out a way of duplicating or creating items in RuneScape unfairly. Particularly it seems they are doing this with christmas-crackers which produce party hats. Obviously this is a pretty obscure problem, since it's taken over 10,000 combined years of RuneScape playing for anyone to find it, but we're determined to close this hole. Update: This problem is now fixed, thanks for everyone who offered help. With respect to the reward we offered, this will be given to the person who sent the first email explaining how the object creation was done. this got me really curious... i know that operated differantly back then but jagex would never offer a monetary reward for information like that would they? My question is to anyone who happened to be around back then: What exactly WAS the reward they were offering? was it in game money? items? real money? im just really curious... Something that also caught my attention was this page 13 February 2003 - The biggest update ever... ...Some of these things were suggestions from players, that just weren't possible under the current game engine. Things like bank-to-bank trading, multi-player combat (e.g. multiple people against one dragon), and rare weapons with special moves. Excited? You should be! bank to bank trading? i wonder why they never did that? sounds like a splendid idea to me... siggity siggity shwa

B2B as it was called in rsc (man I love being old-school) was ditched because Jagex decided having hundreds of ppl trying to trade in the bank would be very crowded...Instead they introduced notes. The reward was a lie also. I can't remember it was either lifetime members or year supply of free members. So many ppl turned in how they did it, they just used that to figure out who did it( a lot of the ppl who turned in how they did it, were the ones who did it, and ended up getting ip ban) xx Jut xx has a site that explains it. http://games.infoseka.lt/scamming2.html
May 7, 200719 yr They offered lifetime membership, from what i've heard anyway. Yup and they gave him a ban. The value of my bank at its height. Estimated value at the peak of the rares market: 250 billion+.Most likely the largest trade in RuneScape ever. Estimated value at the peak of the rares market: 70 billion+.

May 7, 200719 yr tyvm. darn the leak!!! My private chat is always ON.Winner of The Tip.It Teamcape Outfit Contest!6 years. 1 dragon CS drop and some barrows, bad luck?

May 7, 200719 yr tyvm. darn the leak!!! At the time everyone tought it ruined the economy(to say the least, I was extremely mad, because they day before I had just bought a mask set value of 1m at the time) If I had not bought that set the day before it happened, I woulda had 1m cash to buy party hats for 50k ea. anyway, back to my point. This didn't actually ruin the economy. In fact, it just prolonged this rapid rise that happened all at once. If this wouldn't of happened, P hat prices just would have skyrocketed sooner.
May 7, 200719 yr I also could have profitted from it. Had a Mask set and tried to sell it, someone offered me 4 Half wines, I declined because of the dupe that had just happened. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:
May 7, 200719 yr Yeah they offered lifetime membership. However. rumor's has it that the guy got a perm ban instead, as he had done some duping himself before he told JageX how it was done. 21 lag piles, 4 Pjs, 2 Party hat kills, 67 newbs teached.
May 7, 200719 yr yeah, me and darkdude are some of the only old-school left...its getting thinner(by some of the only, I mean in the 100,000's :D)... also, my old scapeboard account name was Imortal_ell ...I was making a pure at the time, and well, decided to use his name for my scapeboard instead of N64Jive due to the fact that I tought it was cooler.

Phyi, don't forget poor lil Hohto :P Heck, I was a global mod at these boards when duping was going on. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
May 7, 200719 yr If I were there when those were duped I'd be sooo rich right now :( How come, people didn't get an infinite number of phats for 50k each back then ? They knew how phats had risen before the dupe, and it's obvious the duper wouldn't last forever..... :S I'm Finally 99 mage ^^ (and cooking...) :PSilver24-7 -
May 7, 200719 yr Someone told them how to do it and he got perm banned (the so called reward was membership for life like others mentioned). Pretty dumb when you know you're not gonna play rs forever, ah well it was gonna get leaked out anyway :x. Anyway here's Xx Jut Xx his page about the dupe : http://games.infoseka.lt/scamming.html. Some people dream of success, while others make it happen.
May 7, 200719 yr I actually was around for that duping scandal, and I didn't realize what happened to the person who had that 'reward' after all this time. I had figured that they were banned by some other means, but banned on the spot? That's entrapment, if you ask me. I've seen pictures of banks with 200 of those hats and crackers out there, still. Most of these have been within the last year. So that goes to reinforce what was said -- they couldn't trace the duplicated items. Doesn't mean that they won't go unpunished though -- within 2 days of me seeing that screenie, they were banned. (No, I don't have rares. I don't think I ever will, either.) Linux User/Enthusiast | Full-Stack Software Engineer | Stack Overflow Member | GIMP User...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.
May 7, 200719 yr im oldskool...people were supposedly sellin the serials for the bot, i think it was [Caution: Jagex Rule Violation]? im not sure but people were sellin em for 1m 522 to 99 slayer
May 7, 200719 yr It's a good reward. Rs-liberation  Unless they started new accounts... 2480+ total
May 7, 200719 yr They offered free membership for life. As far as the bank to bank trading, that was when there were no such thing as notes in the game. They developed notes as soon as RS2 was released so it pretty much defeated the need for bank to bank trading. After all you can transfer 28 bank slots to someone in 1 trade now. Unheard of in RSC.

They knew how phats had risen before the dupe, and it's obvious the duper wouldn't last forever..... :S For that you would have to understand the attitude at the time. Everyone with a p hat thought they would get permenantly banned for buying one during that time and many people suspected jagex would do a rollback of all information. It would be like today if someone told you of a bug where you could get a d chain drop from every kill of dust devils. Would you actually abuse this bug thinking that jagex wouldnt be able to find out about it and ban you for it? If you were smart you would most likely stay far away and not risk your character getting banned. Thats what people did then. A million party hats did you no good in the black hole.
May 7, 200719 yr People in jagex are lieng dirtbags. 6feetunder told them how the dupe was being done and the dirtbags ip banned him and threatened to sue him if he ever returned to r00nscape. How would we trust those guys if they don't keep their word. (I'm quitted anyway)

May 7, 200719 yr Kind of off topic, but does anyone have any screenies of the black hole? I know it's where rule-breakers went, but I have no idea what it looked like. Help please?
