Media = biased

Well, guess what people, no matter what media use, be it radio, web, books, or tv is biased... I've listened to democratic radio spouting out hate a bush and I've listened to republican radio calling democrats boorish pigs with their own self interest at heart...

Local news channels are even worse some person from one or another of the parties does something wrong and the media is all over it... but when say another person comes along two weeks later and has an affair with his secretary i see a small 1in piece in the paper about it.

I'm sick of people saying that either our troops are getting slaughtered for a useless cause and others saying that there is no way we couldn't be there... I'm tired of people trying to use peer pressure to convince me one way or the other...

Every media that i have ever watched has some type of agenda, they cater to whatever type of people are most prominent in their community, their state, their country.. When everything is going right, well there has to be a problem somewhere lets go find it!

I'm also irritated at these stupid polls that people try and show as the end of all arguments... OMFG my poll shows that 99.9999999% people hate bush! Well guess what, half these other polls show that 99.99999% like bush...

Polls are so freaking inaccurate...

A problem that stems from this is that people assume that because someone watches ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅX̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ

Agreed. Most of these polls say that they might be inaccurate by up to 8%! Thats a 16% swing, changing a 50-50 tie into a 58-42 clear victory/loss!!

Agreed that Bush's gung [garden tool] attitude has left us in this war to long.

Agreed that the media is extremely biased. They reflect the views of their corporation even if they give a little disclaimer saying that they don't.

There is a huge problem with America's government, and it is going nowhere fast. There is only one thing left for us to do. Move to Canada. Free healthcare FTW!!

Its not "biased" exactly. The word biased means a particular tendency or inclination, esp. one that prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question. The media isn't exactly biased. If you see campaign commercials slamming one political party, its not biased. They're trying to convince you that their party is the best so you choose them. Concerning the whole troops in Iraq issue, it depends what kind of media you are looking at. If its a book or magazine article, its the author's choice who they side with. But most news programs (NBC, CBS) can't pick a side, for fear of being sued. Like the John Mayer song says, "When you own the information, you can bend it all you want." Some news programs, instead of choosing neutrality, choose a side based on their manager's opinion, because they have the rights to the story, they can make it their own. Call it creative license, but I call it lying.

There's too much damn propaganda in the US.

It makes you want to say '[bleep] you all!' and become apathetic to it.

thats why I dont watch the news or read the newspaper.

They show one side of the story, but not the other.

So if you just watch the news and not think for yourself, you are always getting only half the story.

Iv got to agree with you about the media being biased.

frankly I Belive both the republican and democratic party's have corupted themselves beyond redemption. thats why Im a Independent concervitive with no ties to any political party. (no Im not in the Independent party if their is one.)

about those polls: the majority of people who go to them are biased to that sites political view point any ways so they are far from accuret. I belive in free speach how ever and feel any sort of "fairness Doctrin" would be a crime against the constitution in my country the United States of America.

their for I say let them be biased, let us abandon them and find non biased sources of information. if your sick of it don't listen to them, find a source you feel is not biased. surely their must still be news papers out their that don't protect the interest of a political party, and are not apart of the goverment media complex. lets go find them and let the others go without our listenership.

unless of course you aculy like biased sources of information.

some do. for instance:

I listen to the DR. Savage radio talk show for some information and intertainment. I admit its biased but not in protecting political party's interests. no its biased becouse of the strong concervitive view point.

thats just one example of how you can get away from biased media, just find something thats biased but not in the way you don't want it to be. for example something that aculy mistrusts both major political party's.

It's been going on for quite some generations lol I don't think it will ever stop either.

Just remember to question everything and go with what you think is right.

Just remember what a certain Propaganda minister once said:

If you tell a lie enough times eventuly it will become true.

so I don't think you can belive every thing you heer from the goverment media complex. nor can you alway's make a sound judgement if they chose to hide all the facts. I gurintee you if they wanted to they could twist the truth so far as to make it look like a tererists attack was our falt, that we brought it on ourselves.

Well I could say George Bush drove an airplane into an orphanage in Iraq, and dropped a nuke on Russia over and over again, but it will never be true.

The point is that people will eventually believe it's true, given the right prompting.

It's the same everywhere...people always have an agenda to fill. And trust me, even though you guys hate it, I bet 9/10 of you would do the same thing if it were in your interest to do so.

People will always be (at least somewhat) biased unless they are selfless, which is extremely rare. Hence you have to look at both sides, use reasoning, and figure things out for yourselves.

People can be idiots sometimes...we all have to learn how to live with it.

And that is why democracy and capitalism is a paradox.

A system of economics and a system of government are hardly paradoxical. There are merely unusual pairings. :)

Actually, they go hand in hand. A President needs the Capitalistic ways of his country ie. Hedgefund guys to fund his campaign, without Capitalism there cannot exist an unfair democracy.[/sarcasm]

Heh, it's interesting that you mention this; I just referenced a similar idea in another post (the one about the Iraq war).

Basically, almost all the media that exists today is controlled by a few basic conglomerates. This means that corporate interests play a huge role in the type of news we wind up getting; we won't hear about things that the larger corporation has stock in (for example, some type of problem with a pesticide the larger corporation is invested in). There is tremendous pressure on reporters to stay faithful to their mother corporation's "interests" at the expense of truth. I recommend "The Corporation" which is a fantastic (and interesting and unboring) documentary that talks extensively about corporate media today. If you're feeling ambitious, I also recommend Naomi Klein's book "No Logo" on the subject of corporations and their problems today in society.

It sounds to me like you take a vaguely anarchist approach to media. There's nothing wrong with that; in fact, I think it's a healthy way to be.

Luckily enough, there is a growing independent media movement out there - I recommend http://www.indymedia.org/ to get started! It will link you to various independent news sources that try to have as little corporate bias as possible. (That said, much of it may have a radical / anarchist bent)

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

Gallup polls don't work that way. They have an extremely accurate history of being correct, and the error margin is about 1-3% usually.

It worked recently in East Timor, the polls showed about 70% general support for the prime minister to become president, he recieved about 72% of the vote.

It worked for the french presidential election with about no error. It worked in USA in 2000/2004 (though, because of the electoral college system, Al Gore lost despite having more popular support)

It has worked thousands and thousands of times.

Just remember, properly conducted polls always show what the general public thinks. They are not rigged or 'filled with agenda'. You can't fake polls without getting caught or looking dubious.

Medias report what gives them the most money. They also side with whoever pays them money to do so. Also, even scientific reports may be monetarily influenced (It wasn't long ago that Exxon Corp. offered $10,000 and a free trip to Antarctica to scientists to go to the south pole and turn up evidence global warming wasn't really occurring.) Money is everything, to most people.

I work at a market research and opinion polling company, and I can say with great confidence that the data we collect is actually extremely accurate.

For example: We managed to peg the NSW state election results with a 1% accuracy. That was actually worse than our usual .5%.

Simply put, when mass media starts throwing out bogus statistics, you should know better than to listen to them without cross-referencing those, or at least trying to find their source and if it's a credible one.

And yeah, the media's biased. So what? Nothing's stopping you from cross-referencing one network's crap with another network's counter-crap. You might even be able to find a shred of truth somewhere.

Reading American news online always gives me a headache. It's obvious that they're catering for the lowest common denominator that don't even suspect they're being influenced towards certain ways of thinking by what they read or watch. But you don't have to read or watch that stuff and take it at face value if you have half a brain to begin with.

its almost their job to be biased and share the views of the fans of the news. i mean, if one day you published an article saying "you're wrong! bush is good!" and go on proving it, you'd lose respect from a lot of viewers who have different opinions.

look at the war in iraq. every day they think they are putting "real news" when 5 or 6 more troops killed. yet when troops build a new school or rebuild a small village, do we hear any of that? does anyone even know its going on? nope, all they hear is "5 more troops killed by car bombs!" they never want to put the good results of sending troops to iraq because that would change the public opinion of the news channel and give them less viewers.

its the media's fault that bush is getting a bad rap. "what is war doing? war is not the answer!" don't get me wrong, i'm not saying getting our troops killed is a good thing. I'm just saying, there are some good results that we are shielded from just because the media thinks we don't need to hear it.

[hide=]

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :(
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.
