retaxis2
I know that many people train and skill and make money Lots of people for example kill dragons and make like 200-300k an hour from the hides and bones and getting combat exp Same goes for doing slayer assignments and rune minning then there are those who rather just spend hours running nats and getting no exp at all Which way do you prefer to make money? i personally would never do anything which does not involve exp
C110
I usualy try to get all xp myself.. ~ColossuS~ - I'm not proud of everything I've done, but I have no regrets

Roglord
I go for exp. It's not so hard to get a bit of cash easily, so when i'm training i'd rather go for the 100k and hour with a 50k loss than an 80k an hour with no loss method. (For example)
The_Kuniva
Definitely xp, I Would never run nats for no xp, I'd rather craft the nats/laws myself, even if I only get 1 rune per essence, I would rather the XP :)
Masterd99
Heres what I think.. Experience brings money, so More Experience = more Money. :) Quest Cape - 10/18/2006
The_Kuniva
You always need to factor in the relative cost of time, A very good example, sticking with runecrafting is mining essence; you could mine your own essence, therefore not expending any money to make your runes. However, the time it takes you to mine those essence you could have crafted twice as many runes, meaning both XP and profit is higher (if you don't count the mining xp you don't get from buying essence). Eccentric
I go for experience above potential profit, especially since I collect a lot of the items I need to level myself; I don't feel bad about burning yew logs rather than selling them, I got them for free, only spending my own time to collect them. Potential profit is only a potential, one choice out of many. I have a couple of skills that can earn me a fair bit of money, I mean, I've been able to mine rune since shortly after the rune rocks were released; there was a time I could easily get 30+k per ore and made a lot of money from it. Money is fleeting though, skills are forever. I play RS for fun, I'd rather not feel like it's my sole purpose to earn money. MTK earns me a good bit of profit each week while fueling my farming level completely for free, anything I earn above and beyond that doing slayer assignments is just icing on the cake. That being said, I do try to minimize costs while levelling. I don't consider any items I have gained myself that are used in levelling to be a cost; like prayer pots, I make all my own prayer pots with ranarr weeds I've collected myself for free, and snape grass I've collected myself for free, even my vials I collect for free. Food isn't a cost either, I fish all my own food and have a nice stockpile built up. I do level things like magic by high alching (where the cost of the runes is covered by the gp gained through doing the spell, a profit on top of that never hurts, and I buy my nature runes from magic shops to keep the average cost per rune decidedly below average) or doing barrows with slayer dart which generally covers all the runes used. I'm big on self sufficiency, I could make a lot of gold on RS if I wanted to, it's just not one of my interests. I do like my shiny pile though, so I try to save as much as possible. There are skills you can always use to get more gold, and even if you lose every item and piece of gold in your bank, you'll always have those skills to fall back on. Which is why I value raising them over profit any day.
The_Kuniva
@Eccentric, I am the exact opposite. Example, 1 yew log is worth about the same as 1 law rune on the open market, since I can make a load of law runes MUCH faster than I can cut a full load of yews, I would rather make the laws rather than cut the yews (this is why WC is one of my lowest skills lol), sell the laws and buy yews. Better yet is the time gained burning yews > Maples worth the time lost making the gold to buy.

Sharane
If you can manage it and skilled enough, you could build up an in-game "sweatshop". The idea behind it is having several people work for you at once gathering materials for you, you pay them, work the things off and make more money then repeat the cycle. Of course the skill referred to here is management rather than one implemented in the game. :P "300 programmers make their futile but glorious last stand against 1000000 angry players in The battle of Misthalin. They fight for honor, glory and new content sacrificing themselves so that their game may live on. This is Madness! This Is JAGEEEX!"

whocares
I think the better and easier question here is would you rather have a phat or a 99 skill that costs as much as the phat to get to 99.
AlexDT
I think the better and easier question here is would you rather have a phat or a 99 skill that costs as much as the phat to get to 99. I'd rather have the phat, since its price would rise, and I could get 2 99s. I've got a 1529 skill total, with 600k. I usually try to get exp, but now I'm at a point where I need money to get exp. It's quite frustrating, really.
