Cloning Of Animals

Recommended Posts

First of all, if this is breaking any rules or in the wrong forum (pretty sure off-topic is the most suitable), mods feel free to delete/move/lock it.

Anyway, I've got this survey about people's opinions on cloning that I've gotta get people to fill out for Science class. If you could do me a favour and fill it out, that would be sweet. Feel free to discuss the issue of cloning in this topic too if you do not wish to fill out the survey, that's cool too.

Oh, and if you could please put a first name I can use to label your answer, if you don't want to, I'll just make a name up or write anonymous.

1. Do you agree that the cloning of animals should be legal in your country?

[yes/no]

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

[yes/no]

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

[yes/no]

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? Why/Why not?

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not?

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

Thanks if you do choose to answer it. Remember, you can feel free to discuss the issue of cloning in this topic, even if you do not wish to fill this out.

1. Do you agree that the cloning of animals should be legal in your country?

[yes/no] because theres going to be that one person who tries to clone his budgie.

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

[yes/no] it isn't really that necessary, unless.. the animals which are cloned are endangered animals, and the reason for them being cloned is to reproduce and increase numbers, easier said that done.

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

[yes/no]

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? Why/Why not? I tend not to eat meat anyway, but in the developing stages there are going to be problems that occur, no I wouldn't at all.

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not? Like stated above, the endangered species scenario, I can't think of anything else at the moment.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

knowledge should be shared on a 'breakthrough' like this, It depends if each company is secretive or not, or selling the information, I don't know.

Why not. =p. No, I'm vegetarian. (Don't we do already to some extent?)

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not?

Yes. It will be helpful to prevent extinction, and when cloning will be understood more we will be able to learn more about genetics and prevent the spread of diseases and prevent/fix genetic disorders.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

No, I don't really see how, unless for mass animal cloning for meat/leather, in which I'd be against and would rather have it not happening in my country either way.

If I could just butt in with a bit of biology, that would likely be a waste of money. Same genes equals same ability at either fighting disease or getting wiped out by it. Even if you can get an endangered animal that is determined to be fit, healthy and with a good immune system, pathogens would likely evolve and quickly wipe it out within a few years. If you take the evolutionary train of thought, that's a key advantage of sex (in terms of it's ability to diversify genes efficiently and within a generation) over cloning (asexual reproduction) and was likely a pressure which drove the evolution of sex.

Zagnar the Destroyer (Yes, use that name) says:

1. Do you agree that the cloning of animals should be legal in your country?

[Yes]

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

[No]

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

[No]

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? Why/Why not?

Yes. Zagnar does not believe that cloning suddenly makes the meat become maggoty. Either way, Zagnar will still feast upon the flesh of dead chickens/cattle/pigs/sheep. Glory be to the gullet of Zagnar.

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not?

No. Zagnar sees no difference in food production efficiency, and a biologically unsound idea for repopulating endangered species. Zagnar disapproves of widespread inbreeding. Zagnar will destroy these animals.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

No. Zagnar is of the belief that cloned animals still have to be fed, same as birthed animals. Zagnar also sees that they may also be more susceptible to disease due to potential genetic defects. Zagnar's position on this issue that such animals are better destroyed.

I won't answer all the questions in-depth, but basically, there is no reason not to clone 'em. Some people claim it's "playing God", and those people are stupid. A clone is a different individual with the same genetic material as it's genetic donor. It's having a kid with only the genetic material of one parent...It's not the "popped-out-a-robot-child" thing that people make it out to be. I clone plants all the time because some grow better than others, etc etc.

I think if a human were ever cloned, people would finally understand that it isn't as horrible as people make it out to be. That cloned person would only look like their genetic donor...Assuming they were raised by different people, they could very well turn out to be the exact opposite person as far as personality goes, and all they'd be left with is looking the same. People make it out to be, like...If you clone someone, they'd have no identity because their identity would already be taken, or something. It's just...Brain-Numbingly stupid to even imply that.

So yea, go clone the animals. Especially the rare ones.

The popularity of any given religion today depends on the victories of the wars they fought in the past.

The only way to grow the same apples is to clone it via a clipping. Everytime an apple seed grows its slightly different from its parent.

See? Media scare-tactics and sheer [developmentally delayed]ation at work, right here, folks.

Do you eat vegetables? Fruits? Okay, then I'd bet everything I own that you've already eaten cloned living things. Commercially grown crops are almost always cloned for selecting plants with higher fruiting yields and whatnot. Or if you've smoked Marijuana, or taken Psilocybe Mushrooms, etc etc etc. It's all cloned for the best chances of perfection in the crops.

Tigra, do you have issues? Did I talk to you? Learn some respect. Automatically because someone has not the same opinion as you, it makes him a [developmentally delayed]ed? Very mature, wow. And for your information, I eat biological products every time I can over 'normal' products, they have better nutrition, and are better for health. It's very idiotic to try to assume what I am eating. Just as we speak, I am taking my breakfast, and I am eating a cup of organic hulled millet, with some organic olive oil in it instead of the typical "butter". So really, shut up, and learn some matters young man.

Getting private companies involved will likely further the field of cloning immeasurably as they try to be the first to proceed t the next milestone. Private companies are also willing to put more investment in than Governments are.

Yes.

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? Why/Why not?

Yes, I would. Because if their being cloned they'll probably be cheaper and I think eating cloned meat would help extense research as far as possible.

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not?

Yes, there are poverty striken people all over the world and I'm thinking that cloning animals could fix that. More wool for clothes, more meat for food, ect.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not

I do believe it would, it would kind of ruin buisness for anyone that is still breeding, compared to cloning.

1. Do you agree that the cloning of animals should be legal in your country?

[yes/no]

Yes, with restrictions, because people can try to bring pets back from the dead or something like that. And dead should, well, stay dead.

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

[yes/no]

No, as although I voted cloning to be legal, it really isn't all that neccesary, we should focus on cutting down our carbon footprint first.

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

[yes/no]

Yes, but they must follow a set of rules and restrictions, and report all clonings, just to make sure nothing gets too out of hand.

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? Why/Why not?

Yes, mainly because it is a clone, so there is no chance of it decreasing the population, which if anything would make me happier about eating it than normal meat, even though I doubt it would taste as good.

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not?

It depends where we go with it, if we use it to save the population of animals, by using clone-meat then yes, because we will be able to eat meet without harming the world.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

Possibly, again it is where you go with it. For example.

Company A in U.S.A clones sheep, mass producting lamb meat, they make great sales without affecting the enviroment.

Company B in U.S.A doesn't clone sheep, and lose sales because Company A can afford to sell it cheaper.

Company C in England, doesn't clone sheep, and therefore is producing more harm to the world, therefore green peace people are more likely to eat from company A.

Using current techniques cloned meat will actually be significantly MORE expensive than naturally reared.

1. Do you agree that the cloning of animals should be legal in your country?

[yes] Why not? If we have the ability to do it and it helps us sure. There are so many applications for cloning.

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

[yes] I believe cloning will some day be a medical tool for people as well so I hope that any research that can be done will be done.

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

[yes(sort of)] Yes private companies should do research and use what is already known. But some light tabs should be kept on them to make sure the cloning is being used some what humanly and that any ground breaking findings is released to the public and government

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? Why/Why not? Ya I would. Why not? Its the exact same as any animal (Unless genetically altered to give more of certain minerals or vitamins and stuff, but thats still good)

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not? I believe that any scientific research and break through that does not hurt a human being is a step forward in for us, therefore it would be immoral to not want to better society and allow cloning.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

I don't get this question. I don't particularly care about the companies in my country, just as long as what is being done in other countries doesn't interfere with the daily lives of citizens of this country.

1. Do you agree that the cloning of animals should be legal in your country?

yes

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

no - research into cloning should be at the whim of eccentric millionaire patrons.

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

yes, but the results of private research should not be kept private - defeats the purpose of the peer reviewed scentific process and slows development.

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? Why/Why not?

sure - just like eating an identical twin.

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not?

yes - provided we collect enough genetic samples from critically endangered species before they go over the brink, we can use cloning to ensure they will never become extinct. With improved knowledge we may even be able to "simulate" the variation found in healthier species.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

maybe it would, but that should not be our primary concern - science is something that nations share worldwide - as long as the individual researchers are given credit for their work, other researchers can only be a good thing.

Yes

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

I'm not sure how much the current government spends on it, but i'm pretty sure it's zero, so i'd say yes.

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

Yes

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? Why/Why not?

Yes, the meat is identical to the non-cloned animal, and I would have eaten that, so what's the problem?

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not?

It's hard to say what the possible benefits will be, but in general if cloning techniques were refined an alternative way of producing food could be found, and possibly implemented into third world countries at some point.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

In terms of cloning research, yes it clearly would, although I see a level playing field in terms of the laws should level this out.

I'd prefer not to because I haven't read much up on the health of it. If after doing the research everything was fine I would have no problem.

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Why/Why not?

Yes I do. This technology could clone animals with healthier meat and clone animals for organs to benefit society.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Why/why not?

If our country isn't allowed to clone and others are, we would be at a disadvantage because we wouldn't have the technology to do things other countries do.

Well I see both pros and cons so Iam undecided.

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

No

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

Yes, under the supervision of the government and all definite and indefinite including results and progress be avaible to the government..

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal?

Not me personally because I like things that are actually fresh and this new animal might have a funny taste and we might be overlooking a bad side-effect eating clone animals have on the body.

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society?

Not nessissarily, because there will be less animal farmers because it will become more of a science thing, and what if clone animals effect the body in some way?

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country?

Yes, because they would have more animals ready for sale lowering the price but still being able to sell at a profit; therefore, your country will not benefit from exporting that meat that much anymore so it hurts the ecnomy.

I also believe cloning of animals is not really morally as cloning a human but its just unnatural and we should leave reproduction to the animals, unless they have on the edge of extinction, then cloning intervention should possiblely be used but overpopulating an animal could cause a ripple-effect.

1. Do you agree that the cloning of animals should be legal in your country?

[yes] Why not? If it will help out people and expand our knowledge of science then hell yeah.

2. Should the government spend more taxpayer̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s money on research and refining cloning techniques?

[yes] I'd rather have my money spent on this than really stupid things Governments spend on. :|

3. Do you think we should allow private companies to conduct research on the cloning of animals?

[yes] I'm sure there are companies out there that are willing to spend millions of dollars on experimenting with this and make money. Also the Govnerment here in the US doesn't always hire the best people for the position.

4. Would you eat any product which has been obtained from a cloned animal? No way. I'd rather it be spent on testing o.O

5. Do you agree that the cloning of animals, if made legal is going to benefit society? Yes. There are so many people who starve every night and with more meat, we can help those who are in need.

6. Do you agree that the cloning of animals allowed in other countries would disadvantage the companies of your country? Yes. The US wouldn't be as powerful if they didn't know the methods to cloning if other countries did.
