A polite "No thank you could you please be so kind as to take me off your calling list, thanks have a nice night and good luck with your sales".

I don't get calls back from that company.

I try that. Two days later I get the same number calling me. :x

:) It is good to see some people are truthful.

I'm will to bet half these stories, while entertaining, are probably made up to gain some attention. And anyways, it is extremely ignorant to pull off half the stuff that you guys are saying that you are doing. Give them the benefit of the doubt and just say no nicely.

Since im too young for them to call (The only person that ever called for me was a person from the government (federal) asking for a scurvy about a teenagers view on the environment and what we should do to help. Besides the fact that i love doing surveys, i did it.) they always ask for my parents so i just kindly tell them that they are not home and that they should call back later. They never do.

I used to ask them what they're wearing in a sexy voice; it stumps them for words quite well.

It's not rude and catches them off guard.

then you've only done it once. im pretty sure its illegal if they keep calling you

but i do the same thing IGoddessI does. they have a [cabbage]ty [wagon] job, but they're just tryin to make a living. its almost as bad as ppl who work at fast food places, cept at mcdonalds you don't know what they're doing

my house almost never gets telemarketer calls now.

A little bit of kindness goes a long, long way.

I talk to the girls and boys who work at cafe's, fast food joints, restaurants, bus drivers etc and tip them sometimes, ask how their day is, listen about their rude customers, hard work, bad day and I tell you I have never had a bad meal or drink since I made that one small change. Not only that, by the 2nd visit, they call you by your first name, you don't need to be recognised by a table number. I can't even walk down the road or to work without a bus driver beeping his horn to say hello, I get greeted by first name as I enter the building by the cleaning lady and janitor.

Kindness people, it benefits you as well as others.

"We pay the f*(k!n& bills now GET THE F*(K off my phone line!"

"Well make sure it's f*(k!n& written down and dont ring me again!

Rofl. That was hilarious the first time I watched it. Now quite so funny the second time. And by the third time it humor had worn off. But it was still funny.

"No thanks, leave me alone, or I'll act like every other [wagon] and annoy the hell out of you."

(Hasn't worked yet, but I'll perfect it someday)

"One second, let me get my father"

*Hands phone to little brother* "It's for you"

Funny as hell, get to confuse two people at once.

 You're so mean, Matt!

I know I'll sound like an idiot, but can anyone PM what is a tele marketer? It seems there are none in my country.

This signature is intentionally left blank.

this is what i did once:

telemarketer: hello Would you like to buy *insert item here* for only *money* buck

You: no, not right now but can I have your phone number so I can call you?

telemarketer: sorry but I cant do that

you: Why, you dont like being called at home?

telemarketer: nope.

You: well me neither! *hangs up*

I did a really bad job reenacting the moment but you get the point <.<

Seinfeld'd.

My brother just speaks to them in german.

Jerry: This isn't a good time.

Telemarketer: When would be a good time to call back, sir?

Jerry: I have an idea, why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you back later?

Telemarketer: Umm, we're not allowed to do that.

Jerry: Oh, I guess because you don't want strangers calling you at home.

Telemarketer: Umm, no.

Jerry: Well, now you know how I feel.

;P

Swear at them alot, then say you have tourettes* :)

I've noticed that the vast majority of you non-funnies - including the OP - haven't actually given your opinion about telemarketers. Rather, you're just telling stories about what you do or would do to them.

The title is a little misleading.

I just keep them on the phone for as long as possible to make them waste their money :P

They usually have it so that they pay an amount and they get unlimited phone calls.

But the staff are being paid to talk to me.

And the opportunity cost is that they could be making money talking to someone else.

It's still peanuts that I'd be taking off them anyway though :(

iteme3721.jpg

I don't get any personally, but I sound kinda old now so they normally mistake me for my dad.

I try not to be rude or anything with them, they're just people trying to earn a living and they probably don't want to do it anymore than you want them to call you, it's just a living.

So I normally just say "Thanks but no thanks" and hang up, it's easier.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

I know they're just trying to earn a living (honest or not, thats a different discussion) but I do get amusment from having fun at their paycheck's expense.

When telemarketers call asking for my dad i say he's not home and they ask when he'll be back and I say he won't be back till late tonight because he's out at the bar. He really isn't but you get what I mean. On the other end I hear a startled,"Oh" and then they hang up.

"Hello, may I speak with your father?"

"He isn't around now, sorry"

"Do you know when he will be back?"

"[sarcastic] Yea because I reeeaally want you to call back [/sarcastic]"

*click*

I wouldn't mind being a telemarketer...people's imanginations would sure entertain me for a while. :P

I hate them, they ring at least twice a day, and seen as I'm off school until september thats around 100 calls I'm going to be getting, generally I just say, they aren't in, even when they are, that way they go straight away, sometimes when I've had 4 calls already I hang up before they even talk, the trick is, if the person doesn't answer straight away, there is about 3 seconds of silence before they answer, you hear loads of voices in the background, its a telemarketer. The best idea I had was use an Arnold Swarchennegger sound board, so you answer all their questions as Arnie, unfortunately nobody rang up while I had the soundboard open, ahh well

Sig by me....

I don't mind them. They're just doing their jobs, that's all. It may be annoying to you, but to them they're just doing their jobs.

It sure is fun to mess with them, though

I haven't had a telemarketer call in the 18 months since I signed up, neither have my parents. It takes about 60 seconds to register.
