August 11, 200718 yr NEW YORK - The New York Civil Liberties Union today condemned the treatment of a 13-year-old girl who was arrested after she wrote the word "okay" on her school desk. The NYCLU said the incident sheds light on the fatal flaws in New York City's use of law enforcement to impose discipline in classrooms. ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¦Ã¢â¬ÅNo child should be arrested for writing on her desk,̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬ÃâÃ
August 11, 200718 yr Wtf... I learnt something by scrubbing the desk.. Only write in blue pen because red wouldn't come off properly. The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.
August 11, 200718 yr Arrested for that? That's just silly. In my old school someone would just be made to clear it up if they drew anything on their table. :| ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)RIP Michaelangelopolous
August 11, 200718 yr Silva told reporters, "[H]ere we have rapists, murderers, and you're taking a 13-year-old kid? Wasting valuable manpower to arrest a child who wrote on a desk?" Hit the nail on the head. -.-
August 11, 200718 yr This is just stupid. It is the school's responsibility to take disciplinary action against this act.
August 11, 200718 yr Why are your schools delegating discipline to law enforcement agencies? Are they that incompetent? Varrock Library: Shattered Sky | Silent Thunder | The Emperor's FinestAstri @ MythWeavers
August 11, 200718 yr I had to sand down a desk after I drew on it. and I thought that was bad.. :| It's ridiculous. My dA account..retired, as of the 1st January 2008.
August 11, 200718 yr Aw, but they mean well! [/sarcasm] For real, though, the mom nailed it. Maybe the NYPD was feeling incompetent and wanted to arrest somebody. And what kind of school system do they have that has to turn over it's discipline to the fuzz?
August 11, 200718 yr And i thought my schools discipline was stupid and exaggurated. I once flicked my friend on the head, and the teachers blew it way out of proportion and everything. The teachers were saying i punched him in the face, and they didnt let me eat my lunch. Quit Runescape 30th May 2006.Thanks to Hawkxs for my signature :)
August 11, 200718 yr *Looks overe shoulder* You'll never catch me alive coppers!!! Muhahahahaha!!! Seriously though, I used to do that all the time. You should have seen the back of my desk in English class. Def. shouldn't have been arrested, but detention....maybe. Last.Fm My Bloggy Proud to have served on Tip.it Crew
August 11, 200718 yr Wow. That's...Geez. Man, if I was arrested like that, let alone in front of my peers... I think even getting detention for that would be too much.
August 11, 200718 yr Our legal system sucks. I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.
August 11, 200718 yr That's crazy. My friend got caught writing names down in St. Paul's Cathedral (the big one in London) and she only got sent outside. Ultra Unholy,Hearted Machine...
August 11, 200718 yr WOW. That city is so crime-ridden it's not even funny and they're arresting a 13-year old for writing okay on her desk. Pathetic.
August 11, 200718 yr Guaranteed 100% that we are not hearing the whole story. It's bound to be a sensationalist article when the ACLU is involved. My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won. -Sir Arthur Wellesley

August 11, 200718 yr Guaranteed 100% that we are not hearing the whole story. It's bound to be a sensationalist article when the ACLU is involved. I have to agree. We're talking about a school in New York City. There has to be so many other, worse, things going on in a school like that. If the police are called for something as small as writing on the desk, I doubt there would ever be a time when the police aren't there.
August 11, 200718 yr Worse things have happened in other schools, teens taking and dealing with drugs, demonstrations against teachers, and they get you to jail for writing on a desk? :-X Maybe the people above are right, and they're just hiding the important part of the story. August 11, 200718 yr That is messed up, probably scarred the kid emotionally for life. Pixel sigs by me.Pixel Art
August 11, 200718 yr Destruction of school property. She could have written gang signs all over her desk. People get jailed for writing graffiti on walls but shouldn't get in trouble for writing on a desk :-s ? She got what she deserved imo. YOU! ATTEND TET EVENTS! CLICK HERE!
August 11, 200718 yr She deserved it! all the times i have been doing my schoolwork to only be distracted by some other person who was distracted enough to draw on the table. lock her away and throw away the key i say!
August 11, 200718 yr Guaranteed 100% that we are not hearing the whole story. It's bound to be a sensationalist article when the ACLU is involved. No doubt, but IU'm finding it hard to imagine any kind of series of events to reuslt in an arrest. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
August 11, 200718 yr Once I had some crystal lite in class, and I screwed up getting it into a bottle of water (for I am a clumsy man), and it got all over the desk. Instead of letting myself get arrested, I cleaned it up. I'm a NY hero. It really has
