Who doesn't like like Parkway Drive, mate, they're pretty much the modern day AC/DC (as in being insane aussie talent :P ).

WTH WITH BODOM!? HOW CAN A SONG BE DEATH METAL? ITS THE GENRE OF THE BAND ITSELF, GAH

Well, sometimes a band makes a little trip to another genre as well. And out of that trip sometimes comes something that is different to what they have made earlier. So I guess it's perfecly possible that some songs would fall in the DEATH METAL genre, where others don't. It's like Steely Dan, they have some rock tracks, but they also have some jazz tracks. It would be weird as well if the genre would be the band itself. What if Necrophagist would make a rap song, just one. Then you wouldn't call it DEATH METAL, right? But you wouldn't call them a rap group either. So what is it? A rap song by a Death Metal band. And now it would be a Death Metal song by a Power Metal band.

Well its not like Bodom is playing jazz or anything, they don't play death metal, never have.

You evidentally don't listen to much COB...

Judas Priest didn't play all speed metal. The ballad "Angel" was alternitive. "Breaking the Law" is rock N' roll, not speed metal...

How2PK made excellent points ::'

Poopingman, I evidentally know what I'm talking about a bit better than you  .

Ugh, I really didn't want to go this far pertaining to this, but you leave me no choice.

Go there, please. These people know more about metal than you, most of them know more than even me! Type in Children of Bodom, observe that they are in no way associated with death metal. Then look at a band like Behemoth. Clearly death metal, the sounds are drastically different. Bodom is far too melodic and fast to be labeled death metal.

I won't lie, it seems to be a trend amongst newbie metalheads to call all of these bands "death metal". I suppose its what people do before they learn of power/black/doom/folk and all the other, more specific, subgenres.

COB had their neo-classical moments back in their early days, but have strayed no farther towards any other genre in the decade of their conception.

And I know more about Bodom's past, present, and future than you ever will, and don't need a sig to prove it.

Metal fans, check out my band!

You do need to mention it though. ^.^ It's alright.

COB plays power metal with harsh vocals.

I wonder what triggered Poopies heavy reaction though. Usually he seems quite normal, but GP labels a band wrong, he gets all worked up. He even 'shouts'. I wonder what went on in his mind when he read that Goldphishies labeled CoB as Death Metal. Are you really that annoyed by it, or did you have a bad moment or even a bad day and this got you in a state of rage?

Thanks for bailing me out, Nadril, I was waiting for you to come by.

How2PK, nope not a bad day at all, I just get acutely frustrated with people that label music incorrectly (especially metal). Guess its a pet peeve or something.

Just for you, Poopingman:

LOL.

Well, they got the first 14 bands right, I guess.

Poopingman... how many times must we go through this?

Some songs are death. Not all songs are death.

For God's sakes... I used to think you were one of the smarter people on here... and calling me a "newbie metalhead"... way to go, smart one. Read the whole post next time, don't think I labled them as death metal.

But lets not spam the heck out of his topic about whether CoB are death metal... don't want to get it locked.

So? Someone else is ignorant, that doesn't change anything, just drives my point home.

Sorry goldphishies, I hate to lose your respect, but since Nadril is perhaps the biggest metalhead on here (and agrees with me), I stand by my decision. I agree to end this argument as well.

Ask Hohto, he's the one who seems to know most about the genre on here. I don't know it by the way. I never listen to CoB, I hardly listen to metal. I was merely complaining about a the band determing the genre, not the song.

I've not really heard a COB song yet that could be labeled as death metal. However, I don't like the band that much so I probably have not heard all of their material.

And I do agree with Dann that bands of one genre can do a song of a different genre, but considering COB I don't think I've heard them do death metal stuff. Its a fairly common misconception by a lot of people who listen to the band, but they just don't have a lot in common with death metal other than harsh vocals.

One of the more common discussions between metal-heads these days. It's the same thing with In Flames.

The base is metal. It will always be whether COB is death or not, they will always be metal.

I don't like them, but people don't like Kotiteollisuus for example, which i like.

To put a tag on COB is a bit hard, yes there are some death influences within them but they aren't "pure".

From Metal Archives, it states "Power/Speed Metal with Harsh Vocals". Which i think it probably the most accurate tag you can put.

IMO at certain points this subgenre bull-rear-window-thing has gone too far. CoB is a perfect example of it: basically there are many good reasons why it could be metal X, metal Y, Metal A and even some other stuff. I personally wouldn't put it under death metal, at least not in the "classical" meaning of it.

CoB label themselves under "extreme metal" which imo is good enough.

However the funny part here is that Dimmu Burger...err Borgir got mentioned at 1st page and still no1 has said a word about bm :P

I personally wouldn't use metal-archives as any kind of a source. There's been far too many even comical mistakes as it works the same way as Wikipedia except there's bunch of 12-year-old hippies and not enough people to correct the mistakes. Yes, there are people who know a lot and then there's a lot more those who think they know.

Btw you said CoB wouldn't fit under death metal... Listen to it and look for Shade Empire's music and genre at this source of yours. Pretty funny imo :P Also would want to notice you that also Behemoth put themselves under "extreme metal".

Listen to Agalloch

Acoustic/Ambient/Doom/Death/black metal thingy

good stuff.

Even though that's totally irrelevant to this topic, they are awesome, and one of my favourites. Darkened metal is the way to go.

As for the whole CoB debate, I really would not call them a death metal band. Just sounds like speed & power metal with harsh vocals.

E: Just noticed OldJoe said the same thing.

I only listen to underground metal, well iron maden cover bands(still underground) my favorite(american Band not exactly underground) EMMURE, i roady for this place, get free entrees that plays all underground bands, they came there. hatebreed count?

Job for a cowboy i heard was like 2 grand to have come play, correct me if thats the wrong band and they never moove on stage.

Relly correct my job for a cowboy part.

I would tell about my alltime underground metal, but that would give away the state where i listen to music.

I'd reccomend Opeth although they only have smatterings of death metal in thier songs. They are very experimental in thier sound.

Korn and Mudvayne are pretty good.

I enjoy Bullet for my Valentine.

Say all you want, doesn't change any damn thing. I love these guys' music :D

People, people, the topic is death metal bands. I can't see one in the last three posts.

Anyway for something to add to the topic, I'd reccomend Meshuggah although they are very experimental in thier sound also. Technical, experimental, progressive, dissonant groove/death metal, if that happens to tickle your fancy.

(I know, hypocritical of me not posting a true-blue death metal band but no one's perfect :P )

Aren't they more progressive(don't they have Dan carry, with his drum sett its an odd kind of music)?

\/

5.Tool

if u like recent metallica i will laugh(i never listened to them myself, honestly).

Guss, are you kidding? Metallica, Disturbed and "support your local underground death metal" at same post? :P

Anyways, I'd recommend Amoral.
