I am from England in the UK, and i'm tired of always choosing "United Kingdom" on drop down lists everywhere when it says on my birth certificate i'm from England.

 

 

 

Now, it's not that I have anything against Wales, Scotland or NI (or any of the smaller islands surrounding us,) but i'm unsure why exactely our country name is used so little across places like the internet, global posting addresses, on international news stations, etc.

 

 

 

Yes, we're all ruled by the queen, and I understand that this is why we're the UK - however, I don't understand why we're never listed as seperate countries!

Actually, sometimes, although rarely, you do find the drop down list which has England, Scotland etc.

I'm from Scotland, but I like to think of myself as British. I love Braveheart and all that, but I'm not one of those stupid dying for independence nutters.

Meh, as far as I see it, if you're from the that area, you have generally the culture. Might as well say your from the same country.

Interesting topic.I am Scottish and would consider myself Scottish rather than Brittish. I'm sure there are many English people that consider their self English rather than Brittish too. However i think it would be a very bad idea to all be independent countries. It would have a huge negative effect on the Brittish economy as we know it,so I would say Stay United Kingdom.

Britain is only England Scotland and Wales. The UK includes Northern Island.

OK, that makes sense then. I knew it was something like that, I was trying to work in Ireland into the equation though and I didn't think that was right.

 

 

 

I don't see why English, Scottish, or Welsh people would have a problem with being called British then, since they are in Britain.

Sometimes I feel that my taxes subsidise benefits only available in Scotland or Wales that I may never be able to benefit from myself.

I use England and UK synonymous, using England more often then UK. I know it's wrong, but meh... It's just convenient: Eng-land, Deutsch-land (Germany), Hol-land (Netherlands), Russ-land (Russia) and so on.

Yep,but you could say the same thing about any of the countries. The tax is distributed evenly amongst the U.k.

In fact, I rather like the 'United Kingdom'. It sounds way cooler.

I would rather be called English than British because British seems to sound more like the steriotypes (sp?) (Huge mansions, butlers, snobbery) which can surround it, wheras English sound like 'From England', which is what it should be.

English is a lot more accurate but I think the term Britain and the UK is used because most actions (for example, Royalty, Government (although this may change), military action etc.) apply not just to England, Scotland or Wales, but all of them.

I see myself as British or English. Great Britain is basically the same all round except for the accents...
