Me too, it's called Installing Vista.

Here we go with the bashing of Vista bandwagon again  .

Hey, it gets bashed for a reason.... I've got it on a laptop, and I literally CAN'T use the internet, it blocks everything. I've got admin status, but I can't change most of the security features. And please note that I've got the 'home' edition of Vista... god, it's like 95 but worse....

OT: I'm lucky, my school has almost nothing to stop us from playing games...of course, the only tech class is full of morons who have flunked a few times and need an easy grade....So basically, I get no tech classes until college.... -.-

There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.

We have RM tutor. That program is wretched...

It can turn out screens blank, teachers can watch our screens without us knowing, it logs us off and it disables internet access.

Fortunately for me, I know a way out. *evil laugh*

BTW, some of you are lucky its only at a local school level. The net sweeper and LANteacher thing for us goes out through THE ENTIRE SCHOOL BOARD. All sites we view are processed through servers downtown at the board of education as well as every single thing we do on our computers.

The techs downtown actually got around to start banning user accounts if they contain any [Caution: Executable File] games. I laugh because half my class played [Caution: Executable File] games in programing :P

EDIT: sorry.. Not sure why i double posted.

Grumbling about not being able to play games in school seems to me to be totally spoilt behaviour, there are kids all over the world who'd give an arm and a leg for the kind of education you can get, and you're grumbling because of what? No games during school? Right.

I'm sorry assassin but that argument and every variation of it is an incredibly stupid weak and illogical argument. I can use that argument in different situations as a last ditch effort to defend any manner of rediculous laws, watch.

All computers with the internet must have mandatory government censorship of porn, Ebay and amazon. A lot of people don't even have internet acsess so stop grumbling.

All video games that are not rated E will be banned. Don't complain just be grateful that you even HAVE video games unlike some countries.

All cars must now be painted with a hideous brown color. Some people would give an arm and a leg just to have ANY car so stop moaning.

Year: 1774. The price of tea has shot up significantly because of British tax laws. Some people can't get tea at ANY price so stop moaning about it.

Or we can even try

All students are required to write a 10 page essay every week, be grateful about this wonderful education we are forcing you to recieve since some people you have never met don't have the oppotunity to get such a fine education. (and even if you do write this 10 page essay a week they still won't get this fine education).

As Nadril has pointed out, that's a strawman.

I probably didn't phrase it well enough, but my point wasn't that service x isn't obtainable in an LEDC therefore service x should be used at all times to the nth degree. Rather, that the explicit premise of going to school is to work, learn and get a good education. Grumbling when you are pushed towards actually carrying out this premise is what I was knocking. Not the fact that he should be grateful for any education no matter how harsh becuase it isn't obtainable in an LEDC. Obviously if he was being abused by his teacher I wouldn't say, "don't grumble, at least he's teaching you" because that's not the idea or design of a school.

Those counter-points you used were completely different. There is no specific intention for personal internet use, no intention or premise behind car colour, playing video games or the price of tea.

In short, you go to school to work, not play games, and he shouldn't be able to expect otherwise.

If you REALLY want to be technical then you are now presenting a different argument whereas before your argument was that people in a third world country would be grateful to learn and therefore we should be to. The premise of school is to learn, but once you finish today's lesson then you are no longer learning but instead sitting there doing nothing. Sure they could give you tommorrows lesson but eventually you'll finish every lesson before the year ends. So then what will you do with your free time?

We're not grumbling "Oh they're making us learn, the horror." but instead

"Why can't we have a little fun after we have completed all the work they have assigned us?"

I haven't taken any tech classes at my school so I don't know, although every school I've been to they said they had a program that tracks which sights you visited but I have never heard of one where the teacher can actually cotrol your screen.

My school has Websense (which blocks 80% of all websites) and some other program that allows teachers to see anything that happens in any computer, and even control/block the computer if necessary.

However, there is a way to bypass this. There's a special version of Linux OS that runs on a CD and leaves no track. Since both programs are Windows based, and with this CD the compute runs directly to Linux without starting Windows at all, we are completely free.

There are tons of ways to bypass it. Also what you are talking about is a Live CD of a Linux based OS. A variety of other programs also allow you to do that also. You can burn a Live version of Fx, and that's another of the many ways to get around Websense (at least it was 3+ years ago).

My school had that program, until one of my classmates hacked my computer teachers account and turned his homepage into an "adult" site, so whenever he took over it went directly to the site, hah.(he got fired later)

My computer teacher doesnt use it. were a private school, so we all sit in a small room where the teacher can see everything without needs of programs.

Our school blocked nearly everything but we found a way out, what did we do again :-k oh yeah, opened word wrote stuff in it and then saved it on the shared disc, then the other guy would open it up on his computer and save his reply on the shared disc.

Good times ::'

now I'm in sixthform I don't really have time to go on websites in IT but I still do

websense it the most annoying filter on the face of the planet.

do share, i cant find a way to bypass it on my school's network setup. I dont think a live CD would work either.

When I was dealing with it, I was still in highschool. That means 3-7 years ago. Most of the ways I had of getting around it probably don't work anymore. There are ways around anything though, but with out being on a computer in your school I don't know exactly what the setup is and what can be done.

Also, I don't think students should be getting around it anyways. School is for school, play games at home.

And this brings me back to my original point. By expecting that you should be able to play games when you've done your work (or even before it) you're taking your education for granted. It's never as black and white as just doing the next lesson, you can always read round your subject or mess around with it and try and apply it to different things. I'm not saying school should be dull and boring, it should be the opposite, but that doesn't mean it need involve games.

my college has a site blocker thing, but i know some people with lists of like 2k proxies stored on their account, and people who use n64 emulators and everything on there, but if we get caught messing about online during lessons we get a warning. someone who is on their 2nd year knew the it tech's pass last year rofl. the college pcs are MUCH better than the school pcs though. the school pcs where all either pentium 1s with windows 95, or "thin clients" with some random OS which connected to this "citrix ica client" for EVERYTHING which ran some 256 colours windows 2000 server or something, and EVERYTHING was done using the processing power of the server so it was VERY slow, also on the internet it was blocked by stupid keywords rather than an actual list so it was VERY easy for people to get on bad sites, like 2 rooms pcs used xp but we still used the citrix thing for 50% of apps and the teachers could see what ANYONE was doing, also if the wireless connection between the 2 blocks of rooms (Dumb for using a wireless connection to connect like 40 pcs across?) some dropped for a SECOND, every pc crashed. also i wont forget the time i was banned for 2 months for no reason at all (seriously). the college ones are a reasonable spec, only block what needs to be blocked but dont stop people doing what they want to do, and if the network cable is unplugged they probably just keep going but cant access files which are on the main server. we get a warning if we go on games etc in lesson times and get caught, but its alot less restrictive. also the course team leader who does the hardware part of the course im doing told us about how he puts games on the pcs at christmas and links them all up :D
