Does your school have this?

This year I am taking a computer class called game programming. I always take a computer class because for 40 mins a day I can browse sites and play games etc while getting a good grade. But my school got this new program called "AB Tutor Control". It allows the teacher to see and do ANYTHING on your computer. The teachers abuse it so much. Before anybody knew about it I was playing N64 on the comp and all of a sudden the screen froze, opened microsoft word, and typed "1 point off your average" needless to say I was terrified lol. They can look at your programs, make your computer the "hot seat" where its the screen that appears on the over head projector. Can send mass messages to every computer usually saying "Attention!" It has a list of every program running and probably a log of it as well. So now for 40 mins a day, I sit bored on visual basic finishing my work in 5 minutes. Anybody elses school have this?

One of the computers teachers tried that last year. Funny thing was, everyone ended up bringing their PSP or DS and playing that instead. So they finally gave up because of that and the fact that our computer teacher is [developmentally delayed]ed and kept messing up the program and locking everyones' computer during class. Personally I think it's stupid that they try to stop you for getting online when your work is done. I mean, if you're behind in class then they have a reason to keep you from playing games. But if you're like me and do everything you have to in no time then why the hell shouldn't you be allowed online?

Yup. It's quite funny sometimes, actually. Like one time in Java, a kid was watching some GTA video, and the teacher locked his computer and put it up on the overhead projector.

I was actually surprised the guy noticed him doing it, normally he can walk right by you doing absolutely anything on the computer and he won't notice. But yes, the system is there.

Yeah my old school has had this system for a good few years now. Its quite funny tbh, I remember our teacher used to mess with your head by moving your mouse around when you were trying to do work, or just shutting your computer down because he was bored.

Yup we have a similar system to what the topic starter has at our school. Lmao we need it because we have 300 computers at the school (not including macs of course).

The teachers are fairly easy, and like with the tech classes, we can do what ever we want as long as it gets done eventually.

The thing that most kids dont realize though, is that the main computer teacher, and the secondary one are both good programmers and know everything about computers, so its pretty hard to pull anything (The one knows how to create a virus that will wipe everything from someones computer and not make the actual computer work again.)

Yeah, very annoying I know. They can also speak into your headphones if you are wearing them

Our foreign language lab has headsets, and it's pretty freaky when you are trying to talk to your partner and suddenly the teacher pops in on the conversation.

You are in school, you are under their rules. If they don't want you to play games after you get your work done, then they are perfectly in their rights to stop you.

I see no problem with it.

Yeah, I mean god forbid you should actually be caught working instead of playing games in school.

No sympathy from me, you're in school to learn, if you finish early tell them and see what they want you to do. They might be more relaxed if they know you've done the work.

Yeah our computer has that, we did the opposite of your teacher where we wrote messages to the teacher and drew pictures of him on paint, he's ginger so we drew a guy with loads of orange hair. He didn't even get that annoyed.

Our school claims to be able to re-track what you've been on.. and I know the teachers could if they knew how.. but it tends to go along the lines of:

were you on games?

no

I think you were..

prove it

shut up.

although i do actually work in ICT lessons now its GCSE year. Goddam coursework takes forever.

its a 3 day suspension if you get caught on myspazz or any other social networking site or message board.

Our teacher's claims of..the system screenshots your screen every 10 seconds and saves it permanently to the server is a bit crap I think.. They'd need one helluva server to cope with 500+ usernames worth of screenshots, since according to her they never get deleted.

Yup, our tutor installed it wrong so that as long as you were on the host computer, you could use it, no matter what your privileges. Best part is it also connected to the other 3 arts & humanities classrooms...we had some fun :D

My schools got it but I don't think it's ever been used on me or anyone in my class.

We don;t have this exactly, but the teachers have a program where, if they believe a sentence in your paper may be plagerised (sp?) they just type it into their comp, and if it matches any site in the entire internet, even if it has little to do with your topic, you get a zero and whatever other punishment. So we can;t try to have any brain sparks that let us push new intelligence, we have to stay as smart as we always are. :?

errugh, yeah, lol.

I used to do an IT class in high school, and we all hated it..

so we'd play games, listen to music.

Mr. Hepworth installed a programme, where he could hi-jack the computer and control it from his laptop.

so you'd be half way through playing pacman, and you'd be unable to control the mouse and keyboard, then he'd close the screen you were playing on, and load up the file which contained the work.

Can't really blame them I guess. It's not like you can play a N64 in a side room of the library during classes, why should you be able to do it on a computer the school purchased for doing work?

Most schools have anti-plagiarism software of some kind now.

NO, stay <3:.

you're exactly right!

I myself won't do something if I don't enjoy it, I presume most other kids feel the same.

Wait, what? Of course the school should have anti-plagiarism software, how is it unfair that the teachers actaully require you to do your own work? And don't tell me you couldn't talk it over with the teacher if your real work was considered plagiarism. If that really is the case, where your original work was deducted points since the teacher simply said it was plagiarism, and that same teacher didn't let you talk it over with her... give me her address and I will personally write and send her a letter of complaint, gladly.
