I would actually say fire cape.

WHY?

Because it helps you by getting you faster 99's, since a fire cape has better stats than a untrimmed capee, and better than skill capes (t) if you don't need to pray.

So....

FIRE CAPE!

well... coming from what every one said im going to base my response off of what people have said. i do like the responses too.

admirable skill capes:

construction: (can buy it but remember it costs a lot of money and you either didn't work a lot for it (sold party hat santa etc.) or worked a garbage load to get that money.

mining: just amazing... your limited to a rune pickaxe and only recently was there an update (cookie) that gives you a little more ore (does it give more exp too?) and wood cutting is spoiled a tad. you can sit at a tree and potentially get an entire inventory full of *enter tree here* and you have the lumber jack outfit dragon axe and when somebody is at the same tree it's usually no problem. if some one else is at that rune rock your crossing your fingers sweating cursing yourself if you dont get that ore. mining can only get easier if you have a system, which you can usually only make by yourself.

slayer: you have to kill a certain monster, the higher the level (challenge) the more exp you get. thats the mom of the family of the capes. you get this cape you can get nearly any other cape.

hitpoints/defence/attack/strength: hitpoints is hard to train just truly because you get a fraction of what you get from training mage range attack etc....... the others are kind of self explanatory. usually slayer cape owners have one of these

quest: yeah it's not a skill cape i know but it's very simpler. you can get a emotion once you get it so your not going to persuade me. so it's basically a job that is never finished because jagex just wants to keep you know... adding quests.... cause... they can. lol..

farming: listen i cant even get that sucker past 50. if you can get it to 99 then i'll warship the ground you walk on. this of course is based on my opinion and is up to debate whether this should be respected. but you got my vote if you should ever get bad criticism about it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

firecape: if you think that you didn't agree with something i said about the skill capes well... for lack of well patience for these people i have to say it's my opinion and yah gotta deal with it. aaanyway

the fire cape is very admirable because what is annoying is, you have a guy training a skill to 99. good for you. now imagine you have to train your skill to be of minimum requirement to wield the barrows armor of your choice. now you have to train 2+ skills to 80+. usually attack and strength but it varies. and usually people spend lots of money to get the equipment/runes/food etc. to beat this stupid monster. and your always on your toes and if you drift for even a second BOOM guy hit a 76 your dead, put protect from meele instead of mage. woops?

now when your doing a skill like mining what's the WORST that could happen? rock golem. woopdee doo. the worst thing that could happen-you die and lose whatever you had on *usually showoffy stuff* and a rune pick w/ the ore you had.

slayer- that could potentially go wrong but you CAN lose things if you die and when your going for the fire cape if you die well only time loss.

construction- nothing can go wrong here. its like being 600 feet under the ground in a padded room with all your basic needs fulfilled. literally.

farming-evil chicken? :-s

quest- you forgot your rope/plank in the middle of the underground pass. a lot of us can relate ( :? personally) you died from the quest boss, forgot item, or need to train a skill for an unbearable skill in order to get that cape [back]. hard to die from quest boss usually because a lot of us bring telly runes because you can never be too safe. I'm about 12 quests away from cape so i do know how that is. getting to the boss fighting him and having to telleport and go back to him. it's kind of annoying

basically the fire cape has some unbearable parts but if you can imagine....... you get the jad to double digit health and then you or your computer sneezed. jad cant not win in those situations.... the bad parts can be as bad as quest cape. and aggravation is a terrible thing. it's so much work for a small reward and a little respect in a you have to have *insert item/skill here* in order to have some or a little respect in here -.- so in my opinion *by the way it's opinion* i think fire cape wins on occasions. but not always.

i think it's the effort not the risk. thank you for reading my massive thought out post. :)

If you went for 99 smithing you'd be ton of "nice cape" from all sorts of levels even 126'sIU should know ^_^

I suggest you get that over fire cape since the fire cape is seen on lvl 40's now adays and that lvl 702 looks kind of week being killed by flowers/rubber chickens.

Why not do both? I'd get the fire cape right away as you've got the skills and items. It'll probably get you hyped to get some more big achievements.

The skillcapes i like the most:

-Ranged, it's my favorite combat skill

-Smithing, god, thatll give you quite some respect

-Hitpoints, best looking cape imo

For now im happy with my quest cape. However i reckon firecape > cook, fletch and any other easily buyable 99's.

However im planning on making my first 99's att+str.

A 99 skills, no matter what it is, takes a lot of effort to get. Yes, some have better exp rates than others but a 99 is still a 99, a maxed skill.

If you are going for a 99, i'd probably do an "easier" on, cooking/fletching, first, just to get the feel of it then go for a skill you enjoy doing, which makes the trudge to 99 a lot less boring as you actually enjoy training the skill.

An achievement that takes 3 months is not equivalent to an achievement that takes 2 weeks. Stop claiming all 99s are the same when they differ tremendously.

I think I'll give my advice even though I'm f2p...

The #1 cape is Slayer.

The #2 cape is Construction.

The #3 cape is (I don't really know...)

And to the person who said to string bows and alch, Fletching capes aren't rare, they're pathetically common.

Exuse me, but i don't see any of your skills on high scores. If you had any idea what it would be like to get a level 99 skill, you'd be happy no matter what skill cape it would be. And i didn't necciarily mean to get a fletching cape, only that it would be a good way to raise mage cost affectively... I guess just think before you speak

~Skill Cape > Fire Cape~

~Anyone can sit around shooting arrows at a big thing for two hours. It just takes a bunch of tries, at worst. You lose almost nothing, and you gain a lava-y thing. The Fire Cape clashes every single armour in the game, except maybe for Infinity, as well.~

~Skill Capes involve (who could guess) ... Skill! It shows that you've put your time and effort into something, even if it is something mediocre (Cooking / Fletching Capes.) I say, if you can afford it, go for a respecatable Skill Cape. I've already been respected for NOT having 99s (I have five Skills very close, though, so that may be the reason.) I don't plan on getting Cooking as my first 99; everyone does that because it's easy. I plan on getting a respectable, but reasonable, Skill Cape as my first. I suggest you find a Cape you like, or you've dreamed of getting, and make that your first =).~

Sorry I see no purpose of choosing and getting a 99 solely for the sake of gaining respect, they're not meant to achieved for this purpose.

I would help you judge the usefulness of the capes stat-wise. A general untrimmed cape would totally lose out to a fire cape. But the time you took to achieve two 99s (for the trim) should be more than enough for you to get the fire cape. Of course, I wouldn't ever bring my fire cape to places with high risk of death.

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

Are you kidding? You are saying getting a "skill" cape takes more talent then fire cape? Have you ever entered the Fight Caves? Anyone can do a repititive action to raise the numbers, some better than others, but training is not hard for any skill if you just take the time. There are lvl 126s (with 99 atk, str, and def, duh) that do not have fire capes cause it is hard. You can't just try enough to get it. You actually have to be good at it. Fire cape cannot be done by any person even if it has been done by many characters. Plus getting it is much harder now that diagonal movement is possible.

If it̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s respect you want, either get both 99s in str and att (must be both), or get 99 in magic. Neither of those can just be bought (though magic training can be expensive). Ppl have tendency to respect those skill capes.

Really? That is why Strength is the MOST obtained skillcape?

Personally, 99 Defense, 99 Magic, and 99 Range are highly respected skillcapes.

Unless you plan on getting two 99s, I'd say go for the Fire Cape. Why? Defenseive bonuses are THE SAME for the two cpes, and the Fire Cape gives attack bonuses too.

I'd get a skillcape for the prayer bonus if trimmed and the emote. So choose one with a good emote, I'd think range is a good choice.

Actually I'm pretty sure that the fire cape is better in every regard other than prayer. I'll have to check that though...

Well as I am sure the creator of this thread will not read this I will still post my opinion for someone else who may have this predicament to read and help their decision.

Yes some might say Fire capes take "skill" to get. When in actuality they just take patience and experience. Not time obviously because people can get 1 cape in about 3 hours. It took me 3 1/2 hours on my first try, cake.

Skill capes however only take exactly that, TIME. Time and knowledge of the game to understand which things get you more exp/hour. The more exp/hour you can obtain the faster you can get the 99. [hide=Personal Experience(beware Long Read)]Take it from me, I attempted to get 99 fletching back before skillcapes came out, I got to 96 and was worn out. In fact I quit RS for 3 months! When I came back I did everything but fletch and I had fun. Some say the key to a 99 is working on it nonstop until you get it. I believe that to be true, however to make a 99 "easier" to obtain, I strongly believe that you must enjoy training it to prevent from getting burnt out and if you must take a break and do something that amuses you at that time.(For example while training defence I took time off to level woodcutting and firemaking even range, slayer, fishing, anything I found amusing atm)

[/hide]

As said in the above long read, I got 99 defence as my first 99, and I feel very accomplished about it. I got it at 107 combat which gave an even more accomplished feeling as most defence capes are worn by players 120+ ::' .

In closing, if you decide to get a 99 don't base it on what you think others will say. Just find a stat that you can stand to level for long periods of time back to back to back. When you find that, you found your first 99. Train until you tire of it or just before you feel tired of it, and then do something else to take your mind off skilling that level, then rinse & repeat.

About SkillCape vs. FireCape, think about this, in the time it take to get even the fastest of 99's (cooking or fletching or whatever) you can probably get 10 firecapes.

The question is:

Which will you feel more accomplished with gaining?

Apparently, my signature was to big.

I follow all of my threads to the end so I did read it all. Anyway, I have to respect that last post. I agree TIME is a huge factor. Fire cape will not likely take as much time IF you are able to grasp the idea of proper prayer switches. Some people can't cause they simply have poor judgement and reaction skills.

I still want to get magic up by training fletching and alching. Then I will get 99 fletching. I am at 75 now. After that I will continue to do my range thing and mage. Until I get either 99 range mage. I might try to grab the cook cape just cause it is the fastest for fun.
