Worst year for discontinued items?

BEFORE YOU READ POST: I'm relating real world events to made up scenarios in runescape to express frustration in both the rare market in runescape and the US economy.

Is it because of 100gp barrel of swamp tar?

The falling gold piece?

Possible swamp tar-euro?

player owned housing crisis?

combination of all the above?

staking?

seems rares, though having ups and downs, have generally not increased in value in the last 2 years

discuss

btw

100gp barrel of swamp tar= $100 barrel of oil

falling gold piece= US dollar

swamp tar-euro= petro-euro/OPEC uses US dollar to sell oil

POH crisis= US housing crisis

trying to do a play off of swamp-tar= oil for those who keep track of oil prices and the falling US dollar. Then comparing the petro dollar, which OPEC uses only the US dollar in selling oil/petro and talks of switching to the euro, hence petro-euro.

bascially comparing the rare market to the falling US economy.

He's saying why discounted items are having their worst year this year, with some (comedic) examples.

Truth be told I have no idea of the current RuneScape economy so I can't say.

"The cry of the poor is not always just, but if you never hear it you'll never know what justice is."

As "comedic" although slightly exaggerated your examples may be...

I still fail to see how you can say they have not increased in the last 2 years.

They have gone up quite a lot in that time.

I paid 140mil for a phat just a few months ago, and had the opportunity to sell it for more then 50mil profit several times in the past few weeks.

Although that opportunity has been recently shot to hell.

Maybe you shouldn't have spent so much gp's on a useless item

Many people think otherwise, I'll let them prove you wrong

I think Jagex has never liked rares in the place so they have been introducing high value items like dfs, dfh and GS that have almost similar street value to rares to draw attention away from rares. Jagex wouldn't be happy to see an item they put in a game 6 years ago as an happy holiday drop become the state they are today. :boohoo:

Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.

~Everyone is speculating. Wait a week, and calm the heck down until prices even out. People who promote this kind of thread are promoting the price changes.~

Wait a week? By that time Grand Exchange will be out and who knows what effect that will have. If you are gonna wait a week you might as well wait 1 month.

Lol, smart! I like it!

On topic: That's the reason I sold my "stock" :P

It's definitely been a bad year for rares. If jagex hadn't made any updates this year, they may have continued with their 10x per year growth rate they used to have in their hayday when jagex hadn't started effecting the economy so much.

Yeah, I think that too.

When POH's were released prices fell and so did they when Skill capes

were released but as The Platypus said, wait a week or a month or a

couple of months and prices will rise again.

2 Years ago rares were very cheap because I bought 2 santas for 10M at

that time and yes, it has been a bad year and just for fun I wrote down

the price of Santas before Skill Capes were released, 27 - 30M and after

skill capes, 23 - 25M.

These numbers are absolutely accurate.

Are you trying to say that th reason why rares haven't increased so much the last years because of that the irl USA economy hasn't been that good this year, and that it's not because the staking update and the GE?

If that is what you're trying to say, I don't think that you should create any more topics about the Rs economy.

No that's not what he's trying to say, what hes saying is that the U.S economy has been going down hill and this is similar to the rares falling in price as well. (For a number of reasons, e.g for the U.S economy the housing market crisis and for runescape the g.e and staking update are responsible for the recession.)

Obviously it's because of staking and GE :-$

Quite honestly, idc, I'm not selling my phat.

same here.

Oh and the rares are just responding to changes in income. Them being widely considered luxury goods makes them very sensitive to changes. When GWD came out, partyhats all jumped by about 30mill because monster hunters were getting richer and when staking was destroyed, the staker's income fell, and the partyhats fell by a huge amount.

Want them to increase by a lot? People need to get richer.
